Probably not a summon, as it's fought in a CoP Mission (I think).

Definately not fightable without Promathia; he's fought in "The Shrouded Maw", which is a zone inside Pso'Xja, which is a CoP area (that's big and scary and full of creepy death tonberries O.o).

I posted this in the Mobs section of the maw, but I'll post here to to tell ppl about this fight

Only 1 enemy is here, Diabolos, this is a BCNM arena (capped at 40), so far I'm 0/2 on him

Arena

The arena is made of 3 floors, the top one you start on has no use, you get close to him, he pulls you down to 2nd floor

The middle floor is the basic fight area, there is a major thing to watch out for here (details about that when I talk about Diabolos)

The bottom floor has ditemite mobs, and they aggro here, if you fall down here, you will die, no way to get back up if you do fall/pulled in (see about Diabolos)

Diabolos
He's the boss, and does a few tricks

*If you're on a floor above him, he will pull you down to the floor he's on

*I've only seen it once, but he did go to the bottom floor and stayed there for awhile, not sure if he pulled anyone in or not, but I've heard he can

*He uses an ability to give him Phalanx

*He also uses Sleepaga II

*Worst ability by far "Nightmare" this AoE sucks major, what it does is it it's an AoE Sleep/Bio, with 1 draw back, you can not be woken up from the sleep by a hit, I've heard with a cure you can be woken up. Bio can only be removed by a WHMs erase

*When he gets low on HP, WATCH THE FLOOR, during fight you will see some of the tiles on the 2nd floor glow, if you're on one of those tiles GET OFF ASAP, you don't have a lot of time either, if you're too late, you fall to the bottom floor.

(EDIT: 12/10/04)
Corrected some things

Sweet, first Bahamut, then Diabolos.

All we need is Doomtrain and we're set.
CoP?

Is this a Promathia mission fight, or a new HNM or something?

Might get here one day.

Got a suggestion. If you cant remember all the safe squares remeber the one on the right at the front and think of a Knights move in chess up one over two, up two over one etc... and you might be able to remember all but two of them. Kinda like the old moves from the Laser Disk Video game Dirk the Dareing. ^&^ Just popped in my head.
Well about time

About fragging time in my eyes lol. This is the only Monster I have seen that looks anything like from the previous FF's He looks exactly like the GF of the same name.
FF8-FF11

Yes he looks almost identical to diblos in FF8 and yes he looks very cool. My question is what lvl party/alliance would you need to bring this guy down... with looks like that he's got to be tough

What the picture means is that during the battle, those squares with a "*" will never fall, so your safe standing on them.

Am I wrong or is that the same Diabolos from a past FF (which one escapes me). He was a summons...

Yeah, that would be Diablos from Final Fantasy VIII, the guardian force you get from the cursed lamp which is given you by Headmaster Cid.
RE: Um...
# Dec 08 2004 at 11:53 AM Rating: Decent
Hopefully he'll be better in this one. His power in 8 was to reduce the mobs HP by 1/4 and on bosses or really tough monsters it always missed.
Good for junctioning and synthing though iirc.

Actually, the spell Demi hit the target for 1/4 of its remaining HP (assuming it wasn't a boss-type monster); Diabolos would hit for a percentage of the targets remaining HP determined by his level (i.e., if he's lvl 30, he'll hit for 30%, if he's lvl 100, he'll hit for 100%). Unfortunately, by the time he was high enough lvl to really make a dent in something, your physical attacks were already going for 9,999 a pop, and since you couldn't use him on boss-type mobs, it didn't do you much good.
Aie!!!!

Yea, during the fight the floor tiles drop out, if you're standing on one of the ones that drops... insta death.
The Floor...
# Dec 07 2004 at 10:37 PM Rating: Excellent
When you're fighting Diabolos, you're timed. If you take too long to defeat him, the floor drops from beneath you and a pit of snakes instantly kills everyone in your party. Not a pleasant experience, so just hope that you can either defeat him quickly or that you're standing on one of those tiles.
