Stubborn Dredvodd Picture

Spawns on boat ride from South Landing to North Landing. When the barge screen loads and can control your character, if you see a large shadow blink behind you, he will spawn.

While on the ferry this morning, my friend and I were trying to camp Dredvodd... we were distracted in linkshell when all of a sudden, he aggros us and jumps onto the boat. We were on WHM and RDM, both at 56, not healing, and not low on health. Just... standing there. :P Anyways, all we got was the belt. So meh. But here is a picture, with /clock a few seconds after he aggroed us. Mind you, we had been on the ferry for about an hour before this, and come through this area twice without seeing him.

*ahem* don't mind my sucky Banish II. It resisted :P

I've discovered rate downs.

<Original post removed>

More elaboration of what is known so far, from this thread:

Post Date	Game date of pop	Game Day	Moon % ("+" = rising)

Aug 13 10/9/977 light 52+
Aug 15
Nov 1
Nov 11 7/18/983, or 1/6/984	lightning	2+
Dec 1
Dec 17 6/16/986 lightning	98+
Dec 19
Jan 2 7/2/987 lightning	7-
Jan 16 7/11/988 light 71+
Feb 2 5/22 or 5/29 ice 10+ or 29+
Feb 5
Feb 17 10/11/990 earth 2+
Feb 17 10/19/990 fire 19+

Aside from the two-week spawn pattern, there are one or two interesting things going on.

First, none of the spawns that we have times for have occured on the Waning side of the moon cycle.
The lone exception so far was on Jan 2, but since that one is part of the New Moon phase, I'm choosing not to count it.

Also, you notice many spawns occured on Lightningday. What's interesting is all of those spawns occured on cycles beginning on an Iceday New Moon.

All of the other spawns occured during a Firesday New Moon cycle.

(For those not aware, New Moon 0% alternates between occuring on a Firesday and an Iceday.)

While interesting (arguably), this doesn't reveal what's making Dredvodd tick.

There are two obvious things that would make a NM spawn once or twice every two weeks -
A. Something related to the game calendar.
B. Something related to the moon cycles.

One Game Year = 2 RL weeks
Four Moon Cycles = 2 RL weeks.

Looking at the chart, a few spawns occur in the 10th month. The rest seem to occur in months 5-7.
Months 5-7 are known to be strong Lightning weather for certain zones, which fits nicely with the appearance of a Dragoon. Month 10 I'm still looking into.

It seems we're closer to understanding the NM, and yet it's just out of grasp. Please keep posting your claims and details. I will update this as needed.

Hi since people still didn't know about much of this NM i thought I would put up my info also. The condition for him to pop for me were:

Resting (already had full HP so you do not need to have low hp for it to spawn)
He does jump on from the land you see across to the barge across talking NPC
Elemental was lighting at the time but I doubt it has any effect
Time was in 15:00 ish and also doubt it has any effect
Good luck anyone wishing to get this NM
As for me me dropped the belt only.
Some compiled info, and a request.

Hello again. Stubborn Dredvodd remains one of the mysteries of NM's - no one is *quite* sure what triggers him.

I've noticed from the posts here, that he seems to have a window every two weeks:

Nov 1
Nov 11
Dec 1
Dec 16, 17, & 19
Jan 2
Jan 15 & 16
Feb 2 & 5

This is what I noticed about Noble Mold, which helped me find his spawn window.
However, Dredvodd isn't following any pattern quite the way Noble Mold did.

He has spawned in many different moon phases/cycles, and many different times in the Vanadiel year. The only "pattern" is the fact that he seems to get sighted only near the beginning/end of the month, and in the middle of the month.

By itself, that helps narrow down the days you should camp it, but still - there must be some reason it likes to show at these times.

If you do catch this NM in the future, please PLEASE get the Vanadiel day, moon phase, and %, and post them to help find this pattern.

By Vanadiel day, I really mean the DATE - i.e. 8/17/990. This info helps tremendously, since it gives everyone a common time and day to go by.

***Gonna go out on a limb here, and make a prediction. Next Dredvodd claims will be 10/1/990 - 11/12/990 Vanadiel.

***Ok, that one worked out. Let's try another. In a few weeks, 3/21/993.

Good info, although the date doesn't match up with the moon phase. I'm using Pyogenes though, so maybe their info is wrong. By that site, 10/11/990 would be Firesday, NM 0%. Close enough anyway.

If you really did see him up a week ago, that would definitely change things. Thanks for pointing that out.

***Actually, I should say that *might* change things. If you spotted it 3-5 days ago, it would still be consistent with the every two week theory - multiple spawns within a few day's window every 2 weeks, same as Noble Mold does.

- More rate downs...wish someone would post what their problem is. ><

Camped for a couple hours on the boat, He attacked on iceday, no weather.

Took me a while to kill him as 55whm/thf, but it wasnt hard. He spams stoneskin, but it only absorbed about 50dmg.

Just like every other nm I kill, he was a greedy prick and didnt drop. Got the worthless tathlum belt. Yay?

That puts me at 0/about 30-40 on the nms I've been trying for, including VE and Lizzy...

So I got all 3 drops yesterday. It was Lightsday at 14:02, 71% waxing Gib moon, during Thunder weather (7/11/988 for further detail). I was sitting where I spawned on the boat and was reading some Shakespear homework when I noticed there was an Orc jumping on me ;)

The previous day I and a freind had been camping during this supposed 21-24 hour time window, resting on both sides of the boat, without Dredvodd showing his face.

However there was something else I noticed. The day my friend and I were camping no one was hunting Orctrap until right before we gave up. They were still camping when we left.

When I was going solo I was skipping the S-->C rides so I could kill a few placeholders on Orctrap and maybe get lucky. I had widescan on both times to make sure the placeholder was there, and I'm quite familiar with the technique of camping Orctrap. No one was in Carpenter's Landing for a period of about 5 hours except for myself so Orctrap was primed to pop yet each time I killed 3-4 placeholders with nothing to show.

Right before I got Dredvodd to pop a camper did show up in the landing so I let him free to camp without competition, I was after another NM anyway.

So here's the idea: Orctrap's usual spawn time is an hour and 15 minutes to an hour and 45 minutes. However for some odd reason he'll sometimes miss a pop time and it'll go up to 3 hours, although this is rare. Well I got to thinking what if the placeholder for Orctrap and Stubborn Dredvodd are the same? In other words, let's say that one guy is camping Orctrap and another is taking barge rides for Dredvodd. The Orctrap hunter faithfully kills placeholders and the guy on the barge is constantly resting by the side. So instead of Orctrap poping when he should the game registers someone meeting the required condition to spawn Dredvodd and pops him instead, explaining the missing spawn time for Orctrap and the rarity of Dredvodd.

It also explains why I couldn't get Orctrap to spawn while I waited for the S->N barge. Prehaps Orctrap can only spawn when it is possible for Dredvodd to pop, namely during the S->N trips.

I know it sounds rather implausable, but I thought I'd share my observations and see if anyone else has noticed a similar pattern. I'd personally like confirmation on wether or not Orctrap can spawn during any other ride than the S->N as the barge seems to take a roundtrip in a little more than an hour. I'd also like to know if anyone has noticed how frequently Orctrap is camped on thier server and wether or not Dredvodd spawned for them while there were campers in the landing.

So good luck to all you patient campers out there. I personally know that barge can drive you crazy and make you think up some strange stuff ;)

I doubt anyone checks these posts anymore but I do think there is a link between these 2, for some reason Orctrap spawns almost every time right before the S>N barge ride, I'm usually here with a friend so he normally kills it while I catch the boat. I may be reading too much into it but I just find it a high coincidence, and the name, Orctrap, like it's a trap for campers, if you go for it, then the orc doesn't pop and you fall into the trap, just my personal thoughts though, I would like to test my theory but every time I have the opportunity I get the urge to kill the trap for the katana. hopes this helps if your still looking into Dredvodd.

I replied to this a few weeks ago, but never quite let go of the idea. I'm in CL now, and Orctrap has missed a spawn, and the moon phase/day seems right for Dredvodd. Gonna ride the boat a few times and see if this theory holds up at all. It would definitely be a first.

***Killed 1st placeholder Lighstday 722, or 7:22am.
Missed the Lightsday ferry, rode the Firesday ferry.
Orctrap spawned on Earthday 605, or 10:12am.
Normally, Orctrap would have spawned at least once more during that time.
***Also note, Orctrap popped at a time when the Ferry was not on the S-N route. Although, if you wanted to, you could make him pop any time you wanted.

Had a friend ride the Earthday boat while I kept killing placeholders. Still nothing.
M/T came before the Watersday trip.

I'm rather flattered you took the time to test it. :D Thanks for the effort, but you are right now that I think of it I can't think of how the game would register a relationship between either NM since the landing and the channel are two seperate zones.

To help with your data gathering I remeber reading about another NM that seems to be a similar spawn mystery though is camped less often than Dredvodd because it takes at least level 75 to solo it.

I can't recall the name but it spawns on the Ferry from Bibiki Bay to P. island and drops a nifty little hairpin called a Kosshin (+20hp +20 mp level 32). Seems like these NM's might operate on a simialr principle since no one can pin down its spawn window either, hence you could have a look at the data over there and might be able to discern a window.

Well good luck I'm sure your selfless efforts will pay off in the end and I'll give you a round of rate-ups to counter whoever's trolling you :)

i dont think that would work simply because orctrap can spawn outside of the n-s boat thats proven every maintanence... doesnt matter what time servers go up orctrap is always sitting there.... waiting :) nice theory tho

I like the way you think, but I'm pretty sure one has nothing to do with the other.

Many, if not all, NM who spawn like clockwork every hour or two hours will miss a spawn now and then.
Even Morion Worm does this, and that one's about as regular as it gets.

But the big problem is that Orctrap and Dredvodd are in two completely different zones. I could almost believe it if Drevodd were in another part of Carpenter's Landing (even that would be really odd - Like seeing Vrtra in Spook's area), but not with him out in Phanauet Channel.

I can't prove that what you're saying isn't possible, but no NM in this game works off a PH in another zone. (to my knowledge, anyway.) I don't know if it's even possible within the programming of the game. Each zone has it's own file of monsters, and for a mob in one zone to function as PH for a mob in another zone is unprecedented.

I am seeing a pattern with the spawns that have been posted, though. I'll elaborate on that soon.
It is real!

I killed it on yesterday.... droped all 3 items... So far I havn't run into anyone else who has the ring on fairy... I jumps onto the boat from the shoreline... You have to be aggro'd... Meaning that you have to be healing to get aggro'd. Took screen shots of it as well... It does exist. I just got lucky... And it only pops on the south to north part of the Phanauet Channel. If anyone on fairy wants to know more send me a /tell in game. I tried camping this several times over 2 weeks before finnaly getting it. Using the ring on my WHM.

Now I've camped this guy for about 6 hours. I burn all of my MP with Cure IV and Cure III, then use Convert to get low HP. Then I rest for the entire length of the South to North ride, exactly where I spawn on the boat. I have not seen this NM yet. That either means that we don't have the spawn conditions quite right yet, or that there is some kind of time limit on it too. When server maintainence lifts, I'll continue riding the boat doing the trick. I'll report back later.

so 6 hours turns into 14 hours and not much changes. Now I'm back camping him again (after a break to do other stuff). It's foggy out, and I'm riding after having converted, sitting on the side I spawn on with low HP. Next time I'm going to try riding with low HP and low MP, and taking off my clothes. If a naked Tarutaru can't get this NM on the boat, then I don't know what can!

Too weak for 48DRG, got the Gargoyle Boots and the stupid belt ^^ ***** lizzy's, I'm flaunting these babies every 30 ENM i go on hehe. I was healing on the side you start on, though I really don't think it's a factor--somewhere I saw a picture of a guy fishing and getting aggro'd by him. Either way, in the name of tradition, I was healing. It aggrod when I was resting even though I had full HP/MP the whole time, but other orcs do too, so that makes sense. Who knows, I just got on the boat, tapped the * button (zero movement, I started resting in the same spot it loads you on the boat), and a few minutes later I was wearing the boots. It was earthsday, around 50% moon (didnt write down exact %), like 13:00 or so. The boat ride South > North now always leaves at 10:10 and arrives at 16:00 (after 16 or so rides you get the hang of it), so he's somewhere in that window. Good luck, mages and drg's alike, and have fun!

I was doing PM 3-3 with a friend and on the boat ride I decided to look up NM's for the boat on allakhazam, and I find this, so I /heal on one side and he /heals on the other side and soon enough, it pops up on my side and the npc screams in terror, then we kill it, I get ring and belt ^^ it was fun, and a unique experience, we're gonna try for it again for boots later.

Oh and for future reference:
I was SMN70, I had full hp/mp the entire time, it was lightning weather, and lightningsday.

Finally, after 100+ hours of camping i finally got to see this guy.

15:46, Lightningsday, Full Moon 98%, Thunder Weather... but, i'm not sure any of these things matter anymore.

I've tried the healing on the edge before, but it never worked. This time i equipped as much HP/MP gear that i could and kept swapping it out, so i was never at full HP. I ended up Spirit Linking Hien (my wyvern) without Stoneskin to drop my HP to yellow and went back to healing. He aggro'd right where we was supposed to, jumped onto the barge and attacked.

I now think that in order for him to aggro, you have to actually be recovering HP/MP while healing. He only dropped the belt, so we still have unfinished business. I'll keep track of timing and conditions for next pop as well.

Pardon my outfit, it's for HP and i was too dumbfounded that he popped to change. XD

I got this guy about 3 months ago....wasn't camping him at all...had been camping Orc Trap in Carpenters Landing on DRG60/RNG10 (gimped sub i know but needed RNG for placeholders). I'd forgotten any means of warp so decided to take the ferry from south to north landing and head to Sandy.

I'd killed a few things on the ferry, so went to the side of the ferry where you get on to rest...about 15 seconds later an Orc literally jumps on the boat next to where i'm resting, aggro's, calls a wyyern and starts doing jump attacks...

Needless to say as a DRG i started jumping back XD

Pretty easy fight as 60 DRG...even with the gimped sub...i'd say somepage is right with the lvl being 37-38..dropped Tathlum belt and Carect Ring...w00t!!!

I've only seen 1 other person on Asura with one...and he confirmed the same thing happened to him...resting on side of the boat you get on and Orc NM jumps on.

I've been back to try to get the Gargolye boots for my drg...but no more pops to date..but i can confirm that if you take the ferry back again you wont miss any ferrys from south to north landing..

Great ring for my DRG when subbing /whm...also use it for blm/smn/whm.

Hope this helps

Lightning Day New Moon 2% @ 16:00-16:30 Game Time

Literally jumped onto the boat on the opposite side of the talking npc.

Maybe level 30, dragoon job, cake for level 60.

Unforunately, only the belt dropped.

There are two boats that leave from the southern landing. One goes to central, one goes to north. If you get kicked off the boat from central to south, make sure you check that the next one is going to north before you get on it, because that's the only trip this NM spawns on (supposedly). There are trips going to north and to central simultaneously, you can tell by the two different narrator-NPCs.

there is never a time when there are 2 boats running at the same time. The boats goes from north, to center, to south, to center, to south, to north again. When you are booted off one boat, you just get on the next one.

* The ring is not a 100% drop
* It seems like everytime it only pops when
somebody is resting on the ship!
(It seems like it only pops when somebody is resting on the boat. And it always appears right behind where you rest. I wonder if the resting position would be a factore of popping it)

Its day 3. Nonstop campfest [coffee pot by the pc] , not a sighting of an Orc on this ferry. I begin to wonder if this thing is just an imaginary NM. But I see the screenshot right up there ^. I would say not to waste your time. The payoff just is not here. You could spend time like this farming up crystals to sell for gil. And take that hard earned gil and buy the item from some sucker that spent a month straight on this hellsferry...

I SAW HIM! HE DOES EXIST!! About 4 months, I've been after this guy.. I used to spend countless hours camping him.. Today, I was there for 30 minutes and saw him for my first time! I'll share the details..

He is supposedly a 21-24hr spawn.. Me and another player, put together, camped at least 25 hours straight, and he didn't spawn though.. I -think- it may be a 24-72hr spawn.. There's probably a 3 hour window every day that he can spawn in.. So if you get a ToD, he'll either spawn in 21-24hrs, 45-48hrs, or 69-72hrs. I would give away the ToD, but I want that other player I mentioned (A JP player named Duruduru that I became friends with while camping) to get a shot at Dredvodd too.. Sorry ^^;

In the past, I theorized that he had to agro you to get onto the boat. This is not true. I was resting, and he jumped onto the boat behind me, so I stood up, and he hadn't agroed me.. I waited a couple seconds before attacking to make sure, since nobody else was on the boat. He doesn't spawn like a normal mob either though. You can literally see him jump onto the boat.. Looks kinda funny. Flying Orc! xD

The stuff about him only appearing after "Something has caught on Ineuteniace's line!" is false. He spawned just before that, and Dredvodd was half-dead before Ineuteniace caught the same fish he catches for his grandson every day.. His grandson must be sick of that stuff by now.. Lol.

Another thing I found interesting.. The NPC, Ineuteniace, actually does interact with Dredvodd. Here's what happened..

*riding the boat all alone, aside from the NPC's. I was WHM71/THF35*
Ineuteniace: Would you look at that waterfall? My grandson named it Ineuteniace Falls. Am I not the luckiest Grandfather in all the Kingdom?
*about 30 seconds go by*
*Dredvodd hops aboard*
Ineuteniace: O-o-o-o...
O-o-o-o...
O-o-o...Orc!!
*I start fighting Dredvodd. He calls his wyvern*
*I fail to steal from Dredvodd*
*I mug Dredvodd for 1 gil.*
Something has caught on Ineuteniace's line!
*Dredvodd dies to my Hexa Strike*
I find 63 gil on Stubborn Dredvodd.
I find a Tathlum belt on Stubborn Dredvodd. (Who cares?)
I find a Carect ring on Stubborn Dredvodd. (Woooooot!)
Ineuteniace: <Sigh>...
If it was not for your bravery, I most certainly would have reached the light at the end of that tunnel...
*The Orc's Wyvern tastes my darksteel maul +1 and dies of food poisoning*
*I do a little victory dance and brag a little* ^^;

Dredvodd was real easy to me. I'm guessing he is around Lv37-38, like Somepage says. He does spam stoneskin, and so does his wyvern, so he could take a while to kill if you're lower level. I counted up my damage after the fight, and Dredvodd has around 2000hp and his wyvern has about 500hp.

Good luck to anyone who wants this guy, either for the ring, or the boots. I hope it takes you less time than it took me to actually see him! ^^

Edit: You can tell I spend too much time in Phanauet Channel when I make 6 typoes, and none of them are in Ineuteniace's name. Lol..

First off, congrats! Second, I wanted to clarify, I never said he only appears after Ineuteniance's get his line, I stated in the two times I got this NM, it only appeared for me after that part. Now, if we add up everyone's posts with information, we should be able to determine everything with this guy.

Thank you for your detailed information. You inspired me to go camp him a little more.. Though I may not be thanking you for that later.. Lol. :p You couldn't possibly know how bad I want to kill this guy. >< Anyway, rate-up. Thanks. :)

Updating again.

Popped him a 2nd time. The barge was not completely cleared this time when I was resting, so that shouldn't be a factor now. This time, when he called his dragon, I killed the dragon with AOEs before it was really able to spam Stoneskin. When it died, Stubborn simply called another one, so don't waste your time with the dragon.

Just another Tathlum Belt, but eh, what're you gonna do. ; ;

I can now say that he is not a 21-24 hour pop. I went back during his window, and rode the barge 2 times ahead of it and 2 times after it, too. I cleared the mobs and rested on the side whenever possible, exactly as I had done when he popped the first time. No pop.

As if Stubborn not popping wasn't bad enough, I did have Vodyanoi was waiting for me on the last ride. He tore through a level 38 DRK before I even finished loading the area, and I had just enough time to finish casting Sneak. Thanks to taking too long to scroll through my spell list, though, it was too late, and he aggrod at the same time. I survived against him for a good 8 minutes or so before deleveling, only getting him down to 76%. A crappy end to a failed camping session. Even Holy only took off 2% of his hp. ; ;

So, a final word to those camping Stubborn: if you're below level 60, be on your guard between 20:00 and 4:00.

Depending on your citizenship and Bastok rank you can buy Tathlum from Peritrage in Bastok Markets, F-10.
When will it pop

I've camped this NM for 2days and no pop yet... im starting to give up hope. But while im camping this NM im also camping the Vodyanoi, so its pretty much worth it if i get the Vodyanoi.
Doubts.

Any specifics? Game time? Weather? Fog?

I've been camping this thing for a week now, 16 hours at a time, with overlaps so i don't miss a potential window, and i haven't seen it once.

I'm beginning to think it doesnt exist.
