Stubborn Dredvodd Picture

Spawns on boat ride from South Landing to North Landing. When the barge screen loads and can control your character, if you see a large shadow blink behind you, he will spawn.

Finally got my ring

I finally got the ring from this awful NM. It took eight killings and 131 recorded boat rides (in reality it was probably closer to 150, since I rode a bunch of times before I started writing all the information down).

If you want to read all the information I've discovered about this NM over this period of time of camping it, please visit: http://iyouffxi.wordpress.com/stubborn-dredvodd/

WTF???
# May 26 2009 at 4:20 PM Rating: Decent
That's exactly what i said when this guy popped for me. I've taken the barge back to Sandy many times from farming tiger fangs and out of nowhere the guide pulls him up. I'm a lvl 75 PLD, so I had no problems killing him. It just surprised me because I had never even heard of this NM before. Anyways, after the 20 second fight, I came out with a new ring and belt. I'm pumped about the ring, not so much for the belt, but whatever... I enjoy that this game surprises me even still.
A new theory?

If anyone is out there still camping this thing, like myself, a fellow camper and I have discussed a new possibility. Let's assume the mob has a specific pop time range. Now, because the Vana'diel day is not exactly one real-life hour (it's 58 minutes, isn't it?) it's possible that eventually the barge time and the pop time will become unsynchronized. This might explain why some people see the mob on their first ride and others can go hours upon hours without ever seeing it. If the two become unsynchronized, you'll never see it. If they're synchronized, you might see it.

Unfortunately without knowing the exact window, it's going to be really hard (almost impossible?) to test this theory out.
See Martomo's post below
# Mar 04 2009 at 2:10 PM Rating: Good
I think this is the same premise. It's very possible that there's some sort of window that becomes unsynchronized, causing the delay of this pop. Over the years, I've camped SD for around 175 boat rides (can't be exact, as I didn't start tracking this initially). In that time I've killed him 3 times, the most recently being about 2 weeks ago. I'm now 0/3, receiving only a Tathlum Belt all 3 times.

Unfortunately, I don't see much light at the end of the tunnel on finding a pop condition for him. Several have tried (me included) to camp him for an extended period of time, or check at a regularly expected long pop window (24-36 hours after ToD for example). It's been to no avail so far. There's been much theory about weather, day, number of tickets purchased, etc. Most of these have been debunked.

If there is a circumstance to be found, the only way would be through a very coordinated effort among several players. You'd have to make sure that every boat ride for a long period of time (I'd say 1-2 weeks at least) was manned by someone tracking him. This sort of work may sound crazy to some, but the idea has always appealed to me to undertake a project like it. I've wanted to do the same for Almighty Apkallu. If anyone on Asura is interested in something like this, just let me know :)

I've been disconcerted by the idea that he may just have a very low pop rate, i.e. only has a <5% chance of popping per ride. There's been no evidence to suggest that he has a window as of yet. The only absolute thing I do know is if you keep riding, you'll eventually see him. For now, when I'm bored and I see that it's getting near 7:00 AM game time, I grab a Teleport-Holla and take a ride.

I wish I was still on Asura. I'd help you camp it. Alas, I'm not, so I won't be able to help beyond what little I can ride here and there. I think I'm around 2/31 on seeing him, 0/2 on the ring.

Both times I've seen it have been this week: last Monday at around 2 am central time, and about an hour ago now (around 11:26 am central time).

During the week I rode the barge at least 15 times but it wasn't very consistent (one time here, one time there, etc) and 90% of the time I was alone.

I'm starting to hate that barge. :P

-Edit-
Starting tomorrow I'm going to start keeping a detailed record of every barge trip I take (including real life date, vana'diel date, moon phase, weather on the barge, # of tickets left, the # of people on the barge, etc etc). Hopefully by the time I get the ring I might have actually figured out a pattern.

# Mar 09 2009 at 7:24 AM Rating: Good
Good luck in your tracking. I don't think number of people on the barge makes a difference, all three of my sightings happened solo. Day of the week doesn't seem to make a difference, as reported sightings are scattered all over the week. As stated before, I've been going the same route as you, one trip here and there. It certainly isn't consistent, but it does a better job of maintaining my sanity.

P.S.: I originally sought this ring when I was a much lower level. No doubt, it is a very nice ring. However, in truth I really have little use for it now. It's a trophy, but I still want it :)
Best of luck :)

Thanks. :D

I think I'm gonna lose my sanity before I finally get the ring though. Sadly I'm sort of in the same boat. I don't really NEED it now, since I hit 40 RDM but I really would like it for level 30 BCNMs. Plus it'd just be cool to have the ring as a trophy that almost no one in this game has.

All my tracking can be seen here. I've spent a ton of time on that boat with no results. Weee!
Great Tracking!

Wow! Very nice and accessible tracking of this NM! I dare say that if we had this sort of information from more players his secret wouldn't be as safe. Good work!
Unbelieveably stoked

Here's my story. Recently I started leveling DRk. A lot of times (escpecially when I start level a new job from scratch) I like to go through the lists of low level rare/ex stuff. It's like a hobby of mine to get these things. What trigged my interest in this notorious monster was the fact that I had recently gotten Webcutter scythe and Nadrs sword from Korroloka tunnel and was therefore in the mood for NM hunting.

As I looked through the lists I noticed this ring & began the adventure for it yesterday. Around 5 p.m. Sunday afternoon e.s.t I started. The first ride I took there were 4 people on it. There was a rdm, 2 bsts who were apparently leveling on the ride and on Carpenter's Landing, and me as 75 Thf/whm. The whm sub was for warping to Holla after the end of the boat trips to the north. From Holla, you can easily reach Jugner, then Carpenter's Landing. I had considered setting home point in the Jugner outpost, or buying a homing ring, but I said to myself, "Nah, i'll just teleport". Nothing popped on that first ride. I went on about 5 more south to north rides after that. Similarly, nothing popped. At about 10 p.m. I stopped because I had to do something else in-game. After I finished my stuff, I went back at night and tried a couple of times south to north, and a few non-south to north rides. Nothing popped.

The next day (today) I went in there again. After reading all the theories about the spawn conditions of this NM, I highly doubted that I would ever see it. My plan was to try for 4 or 5 hours today with my PS2 logged in the game on dial-up, and to play Call of Duty 4 on my 360 in-between the south to north trips. As you know, it's about an hour real life time from the moment you take the ship south to north, to the moment you can take it again south to north. Well, the first ride I took on the second day was a no-show again. After that no-show, I took the opportunity to check Sharp Earred Roippi in East Sarutabaruta for Entancing Ribbon. This NM bunny was already up. I was able to get him unclaimed and very quickly since my home point is in Aht Urhgan Whitegate & I use the pay taru to warp to my home nation of Windy.

After that, I went back to the hell hole for Stubborn Dredvodd. I was expecting this to be a serious hell hole, much like the days when Sozu Rogberry was not a pop item NM. Here's where it got exciting. Are you ready? I took the ship.. and on this second ride of the day... it POPPED. He really does leap onto the barge, sort of like the ending of the drg's jump animation. I was standing very close to the square that's empty and nearby the Tonberry npc. He leaped in almost in front of me. This guy agrod me straight away even though he is obviously lower level than me as a level 75 thf/whm. The fight started with about 6 minutes left to the end of the boat ride. I didn't take any chances and used a meat mithkabob. He was killed on Iceday, 19% Waning Crescent, 2:26 p.m. e.s.t., Ifrit server, 11-09-1048 Vanadiel day, Monday June 2, 2008 real life day. I wrote down 13:00 and 13:55. I really can't remember, but i'm geussing those 2 in-game times were the pop and death. Some more info: The first day I used single tickets, and bought a multi tcket when I went back around 1 a.m. The second day I used the multi ticket only. He popped with about 5 or 6 tickets left on the multi-ticket. The weather was slightly foggy. The area was controlled by Windurst, but the beastmen were on the rise. He popped a little after the fishing emote from the npc Also, I checked to see if this Shadow you're supposed to see behind you was there after the loading animation, and it was not there. You might not want to depend on that shadow thing.

After it died, I got the belt, boots, and ring!!!!! Man, what a rush. I now have this super rare ring. I dont' know about you guys, but i've never seen anyone using it in my years of playing this game.

After that, I was going to warp out, but I decided to go for the other NM, Voldanoi or whatever his name is. I took the boat from North to Central, and nothing. Central to south, and nothing. When I took the boat from south to Central. Voldanoi was right there. He also agrod me when I got close. I beat him, but nothing dropped.

I'm geussing that this guy pops 1 time in a Vanadiel month. I don't know how long is one Vanadiel in real time (about 24-28 hours?) If my guess is right, then it could be that you could see this guy twice within 24-28 hours more or less (if he pops late in one month, and early in the next Vanadiel month) or you may not see him for once in a long time (if he pops early in one month, and late on the next Vanadiel month). This is strictly a gut feeling I have and a 100% guess.

I'd rate this guy is one of the more unique NMs in FFXI, due to how he enters the area, the fisherman npc crying O-o-o-orc!!!, and the fact that he agros you regardless of your level vs his level. It sort of reminds me of the uniqueness of the NM in Phomiuna Aqueducts, where you fight some Fomor NM, but the real NM is his pet bats (if I rmemeber right) or that NM colibri outside that spawns a helper Mamoolja after a while that'll seriously trash you if you think of soloing it lol. We seriously should've gotten a title for deafeating Stubborn Dreddvodd, maybe something like Outstubborned Drednodd because you sure as hell better be a stubborn person if you want the drops from this guy. Apparently, this guy is rarely camped, so luck may be on your side at least on that end.

My advice is not not take any chances with this guy. You may need to beat him quick, so don't go in there with anything less than level 70. You have have only 6 minutes to beat him when he pops.

Well, sorry for the encyclopedia I wrote here. Good luck on your quest for this guy!

this morining, I and my g/f were trying to explore a bit since she is kinda new to FF. So we took the boat from Nsandy, and I checked wut NM it has in this zone.
And I saw this stuby guy's info here, so we decided to give it a shot.
while waiting for the ship S>N, we killed orctrap 0/1. But the 1st ride didnt give us stuby. Then we tried again, got on ship departing at 10:00, and I was standing at the square on the opposite side of the berry, and my g/f stood at the opposite side of the fishing NPC.(we were both facing the water)

Shortly after the NPC's /em of catching something, stuby jumped behind me and aggroed me. We killed it with np (72 and 75 RDM), but only belt dropped :(

I dun mind give the tod, it was on lakshimi, 6:33AM PST.
i may try to get him again, GL to u all on the ring :)

Seeing as this is one of the mobs that haven't had a lvl assigned to it yet.. what lvl is this dude? I am hanging out on the barge trying to get my teak lumber for that bastok quest and am wondering what lvl this guy is, or whether I should avoid him? The lowest lvl I have seen on post is 50... I thought he was high 30's?

After camping this NM pretty seriously for about 4-5 days, he finally popped today on my 5th boat ride. It was around 13:00 on a watersday, 7/23/1034. Got 1/1 on both the belt and the ring. Yay for a scholar ring maybe?

I am on Titan Ineuteniace just caught something and Stubborn leaped onto the barge. Now I had been riding these barges for 3 days and almost got my butt handed to me by Vod this huge pink frog with a tounge that got my GF very excited. I fish while I ride and don't kill the mobs on the barge. Unless it is a water element which btw I had just killed before Stubborn leaped on. I only got the belt but he was still a rather easy fight for 52 RDM/ 26 BLM. It was quite a rush finally seeing him. I shall continue for the ring.

I believe it is linked to Ineuteniace when he catches something.
Unsure if Water Element has anything to do with it because not everyday is waterday.

Can't say any other effects may have anything to help make him pop, just be persistant, he quite possibly is a random pop.

i'm on ramuh 50rdm/24blm (yes its gimped....i need to lvl it...). i was riding the boat hoping for this guy. after the guy fished i expected he wasn't gonna pop, so a crab pops and i'm killing it for fun...and infront of me...this guy comes up i was like hell yes. so i start fighting him, was pretty easy, hitting me for about 20, only problem is his stoneskin. so i'm thinking if i can keep mine up, i got him. summons his dragon, sleep 2 no problem. the guy says we are about to land..im like we better not. so i chainspell and just spam aero2 and fire2 on him...i see him almost dead..was about to hit fire2...guess what...we zone -.-...i am pissed, first time i seen him, gonna go ride it when the boat comes back. hope to god he spawns again >.>;

so yeah he doesn't pop on next ride ; ;, oh well hope i get him today....rdm/blu this time ^^; and 51rdm/25blu

Ok, I just spent the whole day going after him. I did get him eventually and this is all the info I thought of to put here.

Job: 68MNK
Weather: Rainy (full ride +)
Last ticket from multi-pack.
I had been riding the S>N barge then OP back to Jugner. I missed the last 2 or 3 rides, then decided to ride again about 9pm est. After whatshisface "caught something on his line", I saw him scream Orc and there he was jumping on the barge. Didn't take much to kill him. Prior to him spawning, I killed a flytrap, a crab, and two pugs on that same ride. There was an ooze right at the beginning of the ride, but it despawned just seconds after it started. I just stood in the white box on the opposite side of Roi not expecting Stubborn to show up. Got the ring and the belt 1/1. This was my current time when he jumped on the barge:
3/26/1026, Lightningsday 12:58
New Moon 7%
7/12/07 9:07pm est

I had tried a few times in the passed, but never for as long as I did today nor did I ever see him. After being bummed cause the Orctrap was being a ***** to me... after a long day and getting pumped to see this guy and the ring... I feel accomplished. Hope this helps if people are still trying to figure him out :)
Goodluck

Congrats firstofall, and thanks for posting this.

I've been idly hoping to figure out pop conditions for this guy, and I have a working hypothesis that your post adds to - the barge that leaves around 10:00 is the one that'll have him spawn - so far all the kills reported I've seen are from that one!

Congrats again, rate up!

Hmmm. After being out of the game for nearly a year, I came back to try and camp this guy again.
After a long evening of farming Delkfutt's Tower, I decided to pull an all-nighter and have a crack at SD: the reason? Conquest tally was due to take place in a couple hours.
So I wait around, tally goes through. Take the next boat ride.

No good.

Tired and slightly irritated, I go to sleep.
I wake up the next afternoon, and decide to give it one more ride.
*Crash* I hear. I turn and look, and he's standing on the edge, waiting.
I crushed him, but only got the Tathlum Belt. Bah.

Notes::

-Conquest tally had taken place 8 hours previously.
-Earthsday, foggy weather (which burned off after the rest of the trip. Vana'Diel clock was approx. 12:15
-Healing (superstitious-- I doubt this actually affects anything).
-Earth time Sunday afternoon, 4:10PM
-The Norvallen region was under d'Orian control, though the Chanel itself was not.

Aaaaaaaaaand that's all I got~! I'll have to come back and camp him in a few weeks-- I'll post further information then.
Till then, good luck guys.

SD popped and was killed by me yesterday (a Sunday) on Midgard, belt dropped but nothing else. As several other posters have mentioned, the orc popped while an ooze was being fought on the S-->N route. Vodyanoi had popped and been killed (by me, no drop >.<) approximately 15min earlier. I had been riding the boat for about an hour and a half by that time, fishing up muddy siredons for CoP5-3 and killing mobs for Garhada Teak. It was my first evening on the boat since I started the game about 2 and a half years ago. For all rides in the 3-4 hours I was there, I was the only one on the barge.

Not sure whether this information is useful, but I thought I'd add it. It's interesting that several posters have connected the ooze and the orc, or Vodyanoi and the orc - maybe they are linked, maybe not.

Oh, and for the record, fishing for muddy siredons really sucks, I got 2 in 3 hours. ; ;

I was wondering the people who killed it, also saw him on a 'first' boatride, lately i've checked the area several times with the {/search} function, and after nobody taking the boat for 7~ hours i tried a boatride, made it pop.
Not sure, but maybe it just triggers after a several hours the boat hasn't be ride on, and pops on the 'first' ride.
Again the repop time is a big mistery, but don't think it has to do with a place holder, or a set respawn like 18-36 or 21-24 hours are something i exclude.
Still I wish everyone good luck getting this mob, he's a real pain in the ***, but I think it's worth it ^^

Checking from around 30 ToD I found, Stubborn Dredvodd never poped on the same month twice, but has been seen in 3 days game time after kill, 2 different months. Thinking it must pop once a month at least, if no one there, it goes to next month.

Working right now on the number of tickets left theory, doing all boat rides and buying a new stack when 1 left. Will update later if i finally get a shot at him, never seen him with like 40+ rides S - N, an NO Square, I ain't giving up.

# Feb 28 2007 at 5:45 AM Rating: Decent
It pops at least once a month and can go up to 3 pops, depending if he gets killed or not, considering it's a 21 hour spawn. Beacause when it spawns outside the boat time window, it takes up to 20-23 days to get back in that time window, but that still doesnt explain how erdrickalso got him 2 times in 2 weeks, unless like I mentioned before, there is more spawns then one.

Ladies and Gentlemen, the Menstrual Cycle theory.

Just another theory
# Feb 27 2007 at 3:33 PM Rating: Decent
I have a theory why Stubborn Dredvodd doesnt show up for weeks, let's say Stubborn Dredvodd has a spawntime of 18-36 hours or 21-24 hours (most likely)and he apparantly only spawns between 11:00-14:30 vana'diel time.
So let's say it spawns at 11:00 vana'diel time and it will spawn 21-24 earth time hours later (this is not proven yet, just using it as an example) of ToD let's say 13:00~ vana'diel time.
Now I use this quote (and looked into the post itself, saved me some math work) that was mentioned a few posts earlier to calculate the next possible pop.
Quote:
(24:00:00) Hours Vana'diel Time = (0:57:36) Hours Earth Time

ToD = <the date> Lightningsday 13:00
21 hours later = <the date>+2 weeks Windsday 10:00
22 hours later = <the date>+2 weeks Iceday 11:00
23 hours later = <the date>+3 weeks Lightningsday 12:00
24 hours later = <the date>+3 weeks Lightsday 13:00

If it's a 21 hour pop, then the change of losing the pop the next day is big change when killing it at 13:00~ and takes up to 20-23 days to get back in 11:00-14:30 window to spawn >.>

Another theory is that he only spawns at the boat when there is someone on the boat, that explains why most people got claim on there 'first' ride.
So when no one is on the boat after 21 hours that he skips to the next ride, up to 24 hours and then the timer resets, or stays longer?

EDIT//
Considering the post underneath me, if it's the case that it might take up to 20-23 days, the timer also gets resets when the regional control changes.. or there simply more then 1 spawn?

Popped around 1310 Firesday 2/3/1016, Full Moon 95%, Fairy Server, on my second consecutive S-N ride today. (I don't normally ride the other routes - just get off at Sandy and OP back.)

There is no ToD - I left him up. :) Going to ride again on Earthday and see if he shows up again, or if that's it.

He aggro'd me although I was 75 thief and invisible at the time, which I guess means he has True Sight. His name never turned red, so it isn't a "spawns claimed" kind of mob.

I was standing at the bow looking across the barge toward the side opposite of Inteuniance. Was hoping to get a SS of him flying through the air, but he popped next to Inteuniance and out of my view. ;;

I've been monitoring weather lately, both in Carpenter's Landing and via the Weather Checker, checking Jugner Forest. It has been DEAD as far as weather goes, no lightning or rain to speak of.

The ride started out clear, got foggy, and then cleared up again right before he popped.

The Norvallen area is under beastmen control right now on Fairy.

I had 7 tickets left after boarding.

Other mobs - 1st ride a pugil, an ooze, and a thickshell crab, all killed by another person aboard. 2nd ride, the flytrap at the stern of the barge was up, and not killed.

Will be reposting in @ 45 minutes as to wether or not he showed up for Round 2.

Edit: SD was a no-show on Earthday. I'd feel better about the test if he hadn't aggro'd me on the first ride, but it's something.

Much as I hate to say it (because I dread what it means), seems we're looking at a timed spawn here, if not a totally random one. >< Well, you'll know where to find me 18-36 hrs from now. :P Edit: Maybe....see my reply to Jesimae's post below, and see why I might wait til Sunday afternoon.

Something new to check/think about

Since I believe we've eliminated most of the standard triggers for this, I'd like to explore and rule out one more thing: conquest.

If I recall correctly (and I'm not sure that I do), Norvallen was beastmen controlled when I encountered SD.

This is the one last thing I can think of that would explain why sometimes SD is spotted several times within a few days, and sometimes not seen for weeks.
I.e. Norvallen is beastmen controlled = SD pops frequently.
Norvallen is Nation controlled = SD doesn't pop at all.

And unlike weather, which is the same for all servers, this would be entirely unique to each server.

Edit/Add:

A while back somebody mentioned Kreutzet, which I thought was an intriguing idea at the time. I'm sort of leaning back in the direction of a weather-inspired pop in that vein, since similar conditions would cause a very erratic spawn like this, although I must say that someone camping SD for 24+ hrs straight ought to have seen him appear at least once if this were the case....but who knows.

My thoughts

Hopefully my experience will help shed some more light on spawn/pop conditions

I camped this NM almost exclusively for 4-5 weeks last fall. During that time there were 3 confirmed kills, 2 by myself and 1 by another. I did use an NPC scanner to keep track of spawns and kills. It seems to be changed now but the way the scanner worked at the time; it would show the mob's Name, Health, Mob ID & the Claim ID for the last person to engage it. The info would be shown for anything in the area if it has spawned, even if is killed or despwaned. However, after a maintenance, mobs could not be seen in the scanner unless it has actually spawned.

When I first began camping, the scanner showed Stubborn Dredvodd @ 100% HP. He popped a few hours into camping. I killed and got the belt and boots. This was on a Sunday afternoon. Since I read it was a 21~24 hour repop, I decided to come back the next day and hopefully get the Carect Ring I was after. I ended up camping him for another 5 days to no avail. The scanner showed his HP as 0 and the claim ID was my own. With that info it was safe to assume that I was still the last person to kill the mob and it has not respawned as of yet. It is possible for someone to have the same claim ID as yourself but thats rare to come across and is rather unlikely on camping such an obscure NM. Also more often then not, I was the only person riding the barge. On the times that I occasionally had company, they were camping the other NM.

I decided to go out and check for Stubborn Dredvodd the next Sunday evening, at this point the scanner showed a new Claim ID and 0 HP for Stubborn Dredvodd indicating he popped and was killed.

Within the next 2~3 weeks, SE had quite a few maintenance sessions placed every 5 or so days apart. During that period, Stubborn Dredvodd did not appear on the Scanner at all. I restarted camping Stubborn Dredvodd in the morning 5 days after maintenance. He still was not up on the scanner after 3 trips or so. I left to go do some errands in real life and to camp Ose with a friend. About 5 hours later, I got my AJ and went back to Carpenter's Landing to check on Stubborn Dredvodd. Once I got into the channel, the Scanner showed SD at 100% health and no Claim ID. However he did not pop on that ride. Nor did he pop on the next ride, but the Scanner did show the same information. Finally on the 3rd ride he popped and I finally killed him to get my Carect Ring.

I don't remember any of the weather conditions and such but I don't believe anything seemed out of the ordinary. It appears the NM has a rather low chance of popping as it can go a week without showing his face. Even longer if the servers have been reset.

The first thing I notice is the way Dredvodd is in the zone, but hasn't popped.
This is somewhat similar to Morion Worm - after it is killed, it loads into the area (or, one of the THREE areas) until it's time for the ??? to pop.

Today I noticed something else, which could be coincidence or something really important. Quoted from the post:

"When I first began camping, the scanner showed Stubborn Dredvodd @ 100% HP. He popped a few hours into camping....This was on a Sunday afternoon."

On a Sunday afternoon, or, after a conquest tally. More:

"I ended up camping him for another 5 days to no avail. The scanner showed his HP as 0 and the claim ID was my own.
I decided to go out and check for Stubborn Dredvodd the next Sunday evening, at this point the scanner showed a new Claim ID and 0 HP for Stubborn Dredvodd indicating he popped and was killed."

So, for the rest of that week up to Saturday, no more spawns, and then, again after a conquest tally, he was claimed and killed. Finally:

"I restarted camping Stubborn Dredvodd in the morning 5 days after maintenance.
Finally on the 3rd ride he popped...."

What's NOT here is the day of the week this occured. If this was on SUNDAY morning/afternoon, it's possible that the conquest tally occured in between.

Now, I'm pretty sure that there were some posts about multiple sightings of Dredvodd within a few days of each other. I'll have to reread the thread, but those probably nix the idea I'm forming here, that the weekly conquest update has something to do with the spawn, or resets it, or whatever.

I went back through the last page of this thread - out of 25 reported ToDs, 6 are on Sunday from Conquest update time into evening, 6 more are before Sunday conquest from Friday afternoon to early Sunday morning. The rest are spread more or less evenly out amongst the rest of the week.

It's very possible, maybe even likely, that many spawns are reported those days simply because it's the weekend and people have the time to camp a NM.

However, the instances in which Dredvodd has been seen within a short time frame - 36 hrs apart, a day or two apart - have been on this Before/After Conquest tally pattern. Again, maybe it's just because more people are camping on the weekend.

If I were to speculate (Of COURSE I'm going to speculate!), I would say the Conquest tally resets Dredvodd, and his first pop that week sets the ToD for the rest of the week, up to the next Conquest tally.

As for a respawn time during the week, uninterrupted by the tally, I would say 4 days (96 hrs) based on a few of the posts in this thread.

Yes, this is stretch, but this thread has been really good for that. :)

Did you happen to note spawn times like day of the week, the calendar month info, or how long into boat ride til he spawned?

All those things would help in the continuing analyzation of this odd NM.

First, were those the only rides you took that day?

The second question is, on the previous rides (or just the one at 2pm, if that was the only one) were there any mobs aboard and did you kill any of them?
Specifically wondering about Oozes.

Yes, those were the only two rides I took that day. And on both rides, it was the same pattern and same mobs: crab first, and pugil second. I killed them both. Oddly, no Ooze nor Flytrap on both rides. Rain weather stopped about halfway into the ride, and I belive that is when Stubborn popped. I got up and killed him. After (or during) he was dead, rain weather started back up again and the water elemental popped. Things seem to despawn halfway through the ride, if they are left alive.

Maybe, Stubborn's spawn condition is identical to Sea Horror or any other 'ship' NMs for Mhaura<>Selbina or Aht Urghan<>Nashmau?
Maybe just a %

I've made a couple posts on this NM and have spent over 150 trips now camping him. 0/2 on ring, got belt both times. I've read and tried many different theories. I know that you don't have to kill possible PH's on the boat, because both times I saw him I didn't kill a thing.
My feeling is that Stubborn Dredvodd just has a % chance of popping each time on the boat. No PH. No weather patterns or other conditions. Just a percentage. I summoned some of my very old and weak statistics skills to run some probabilities. I can't remember how to do everything the best way, but I ran some probabilities that Stubborn would pop AT MOST 2 times in 150 trips according to certain pop percentages they are as follows:

Pop Probability -- Probability that he popped at most 2/150 times
5% -------------------- 1.8%
4% -------------------- 5.8%
3% ------------------- 16.9%
2% ------------------- 42.1%
1% ------------------- 80.9%

This leads me to believe that his pop % is 2% or less. However, we can say with 94.2% certainty that he pops 4% of the time or less. Personally, I would say that the percentage is likely about 2%, meaning a 1/50 shot of seeing him. Using this theory, it is possible to see him twice in 1 day = 25 South>North rides. However, it wouldn't happen very often. At a 2% pop rate, the chance of seeing him twice in 25 rides is only 8.9%.
I know these numbers don't offer an easy way to find and kill Stubborn. But after months of chasing numerous theories and magic bullets, this appears the most likely scenario. Let me know what you guys think. I specifically would like to hear from people that have kept exact records on number of South>North boat rides and numbers of sightings. I'm gonna keep checking and chasing other theories, because it at least gives me something to think about/check on my numerous boat rides.
If I am right, then all we can do is keep on keeping on. Ride the boat, fish for a while, and mess our pants when he finally pops.
