General Information

  • Multiple spawn points in the southern regions of Al'Taieu.

  • When not aggroed, they wander around in the air quite a distance above the surface, and when in this state they cannot be targetted with Wide Scan, in the same manner as mobs like Chigoes and Phuabo types (see Ul'phuabo and Om'phuabo).

  • Aggroes to True Sound, and will aggro if anyone runs close to, or directly below them.

  • Has a strong auto-regeneration effect that cannot be dispelled.

  • Melee attacks have an additional Paralysis effect.

Ul'yovra Special Attacks

  • Fluorescence: Self target Attack boost effect that wears off on the following melee attack or physical tp move. (Effect can be dispelled)

  • Torrential Torment: AoE magic damage with an additional effect of unequipping all gear.

  • Vitriolic Barrage: AoE magic damage with an additional Poison effect. Damage is calculated by dividing 1,000 by however many players and/or pets are hit by it. This means that a Vitriolic Barrage that hits ten targets will do a maximum of 100 damage to them.

  • Concussive Oscillation: AoE damage with additional Gravity and Knockback effects.

  • Primal Drill: AoE physical damage with an additional Bind effect.

  • Ion Shower: AoE magical damage with an additional Stun effect.

  • Asthenic Fog: AoE Water based DoT with an additional Strength down effect.

  • Luminous Drape: AoE Charm effect.

Small group better?

You know, it almost seems as if a small group is better for fighting these. From what little experience I've had fighting them (I've mostly avoided them) and the comments here, it seems that small focused groups of 2-3 have much better luck than larger groups killing them.

It almost seems like larger groups simply feed the Yorvas TP, which leads to them spamming their horrible TP moves.

So far, I've been able to easily take one down in a small group of 3 persons. This lead me to think that my larger alliance (which was farming after our Limbus run) should be able to school them without a problem. We warped to the Safehold, stepped out and found one near the zone to Sea Lion's Den (e.g., one that should have been on the low level side). With 11 people, including 3 BLUs, a SMN, a THF, a BLM, a WHM, a RDM and me as the NIN tank, we got completely and totally wasted by it.

We were doing very well, got it down to 50%, and were confident enough to jinx ourselves by laughing at how easy it was. Then we got hit with Charmga and the melees went on a rampage. The BLM managed to sleep all of us except for the THF (who evaded) and the THF promptly killed the RDM and BLM. When Charm wore, a couple of the UFO's floor pound move (I forget the name) managed to take out the BLUs. After this, erratic UFO moves (that seemed to me like hate resets) resulted in everyone else getting killed except for the SMN and I. We survived for quite a while longer (while everyone rested) but the Yorva had his crazy regen that was actually healing him faster than we could damage by ourselves. Needless to say, after a 30-40 minute battle, we lost.

Anyway, I need to test this more (as I've only fought these guys a few times) but it sure seems that smaller groups tend to have more luck. If anyone else has any data on this please post it.... stupid expansion has been out for a several years now yet there's scant real data online about how to actually kill them consistently (other than personal experiences, there's no real "this is how to easily kill a Ul'yorva" post that I can find.)
Small group better?

This is absolutely correct - certain small group setups really excel at killing these guys very safely.

A friend and I duo'd these recently for a few organs and went as Galka MNK/NIN and Tarutaru (me) RDM/WHM. The MNK's gear is pretty important - my friend has Black Belt, Byakko's Haidate, etc. - not sure sure how well a lesser geared tank would fare. As a RDM I was not overly stressed for MP and even started nuking to speed up the fight in later claims. Ul'Yovra are immune to Paralyze/Para II but my 5/5 Slow II would stick even with a heavy MND setup (used Terra's Staff but not AF body or anything). Also stuck Blind and in later attempts would stick Poison II and Bio II.

As for the Ul'Yovra TP moves the only 2 of any real consequence are Luminous Drape (AoE Charm) and Vitriolic Barrage (1k Needles effect + 20/tick Poison).

Initially for Luminous Drape I'd stick a Sleep (never resisted) on the Ul'Yovra and simply kite my charmed friend for a bit. I didn't waste time with Gravity or Bind on the MNK as he'd usually still have shadows up and his pathing / run speed seemed pretty bad. Charm would last somewhere from 5-20 sec I'd say but I never actually timed it. In later fights when I would be applying DoT's to the Ul'Yovra and therefore couldn't Sleep it I'd simply stick a Bind on it (also never resisted) and again kite my MNK friend until Charm wore. It's important to keep up Stoneskin and Blink on yourself as a healer/support on this fight because after Charm wears the Ul'Yovra is going to come for you until the tank can get hate back. With these buffs up I only came close to dying after Charm once, even as a Tarutaru, and it was never overly hard for the MNK to get aggro back. This leads me to believe that it's not total aggro wipe on the charmed player or there would be simply no way he'd get aggro back after me nuking and DoTing and Curing the entire fight.

As for Vitriolic Barrage I see a lot of players recommending that the support should run in to absorb half of the 1000 damage. When we farmed these my Galka MNK friend was sitting around 1800 HP without any special HP gear equipped so I would NOT run in on this move and simply quickly Poisona him and then Cure him up again. He always had his Ni timer up to reapply shadows after this move due to the amount of Haste he was working with. I'd stick with the run-in strategy with lower HP tanks (NIN, THF, maybe Taru MNK) but if you find yourself duoing these with a tank whose HP sits well over 1k you might find staying out and simply patching them up a good idea.

Duo'd
# Oct 22 2007 at 5:15 PM Rating: Decent
Easily duo'd one the other night. Nin/war(me), rdm/whm friend.
Very easy fight, took about 10-12min, I zerked twice. 1/1 organ..
So yeah, can easily be duo'd by ninja and red mage, have the mage run in for viscolic(sp) barrage to minmize damage, other than that the rdm only needs to haste, slowII, phalanxII(just because), DiaIII, Erase(the DoT is like 20hp/tick,drown and poison)..
All the ninja has to do is blind and go to town on DD.. should be extremely easy to keep shadows up with slow II, subtle blow+10 helps alot(merits/rajas).. I was in evasion gear which helped my DD a little, very rarely had to use utsesumi: Ichi.. My ws gear is really good, so most of my jins did about 800 damage, did land a 1168 though.
So anyways, don't only need mnk + brd to duo, easily done as nin + rdm.. you guys should try it out, its a pretty fun fight.
ul' is duo'able

Heard from some people on my server that these things were duo'able by a Monk + Bard team. So got a friend to come as brd and i geared up my monk in best evasion gear i can afford. (also brought str/att gear in cast it seemed evasion was a bad choice) had about +40eva and about +20 eva skill (4eva merits too) seemed to be just enuff to dodges 2-3 attacks per cycle of shadows which i thought really helped keep one step ahead of the mob. Fight took a while, Vitriolic Barrage is pretty much 1000 Needles, it did that back to back on us once and we came close to wiping. Bard kept March/Mambo on me and Elegy on the mob. The fight took about 20-30 minutes you really have to pay attention to shadows and be ready for it's AoE attacks/charmga but in the end we were victorious and took away 1 organ. plan to do another tomorrow. I'll post gear for those curious.

Monk 75 capped merits(H2H,Crit,Eva,Counter,Kick)
Destroyers - Bibiki seaShell
O.hat - Eva Torque - Melody Earring+1 x2
S.H. - Rase Tekko - Emerald rings x2
Am mantle - Brown Belt - Melee - Rase Sune ate

macro'd haste/counter gear for casting shadows
chakra gear obviously
and you need 2-3 macros to put all ur gear back on Torrential Torment strips ur char to nothing, an it can spam that too.

Hope this helps anyone who needs organs, i'm gonna try att/str gear tomorrow. an we tried a Om' it kicked our ***. peace.

Party Setup:

Colton-75DRK/NIN
Damascus-75SAM/THF
Manaboy-75NIN/WAR
Coookies-75BRD/WHM

We decided to try and kill these guys knowing there was a huge possibilty that it would have lead us to death, but thought it would be fun to give it a go.

First try was a learning process, where we figured out what each TP move was and how bad it is. The Samurai died 3 times because of some nasty AoE attacks so he decided to just use range attack and TA+WS the Nin for hate control. I highly recommend having a Drk if you have a small party setup because they're good DD's and their ability to Stun. The NM will use something called Torrential Torrent where it'll strip everyone within range of their gear leaving the tank (esp Nin) very defenseless; ;.

After our first attempt we decided to bring in meds. Melee's had HP regen drinks, hi-pots, antidotes, and yag drinks (for drk). Mage (me) brought yag drinks, hi-ethers, and HP regen drinks. Also, Hojo and Elegy really slow these NMs down and I was told their accuracy is pretty crappy. Played double mambo (evasion) songs and occasionally prelude (range acc) for Sam; this can be different if there was a whm or rdm to heal but i was thinking more defensively.

One move that really was an inconvience was Luminous Drape - AoE Charm! What I did was sleep the NM and "kite" my party because Charm didn't last too long (maybe 10seconds?) and Nin needed to be awake to take hate since hate resets. Being chased by Dual Wielders was pretty painful and they got me killed once :P.

Some other TP moves to be careful of are:
Concussive Oscillation - AoE dmg that'll knockback so make sure you're not going to get knocked into the water where a shark may be.
Vitriolic Barrage - Very strong AoE poison attack. I'm not sure how much dmg/tick but it's pretty deadly so make sure poisona or antidote is used quickly.

Also, the Nin noted that when shadows were down normal hits have an additional affect of Paralyze so mages be ready to remove it. I had an MP pool of about 260-300, depending on gear setup, so I would say our party setup is probably the most minimal setup you want to have. If we had a whm or rdm it would have been "safer" but definitely do-able with out. DD's kept the NMs from regening too quickly, so they're definitely a must. Overall we were 4/4 with the Yovra Organs so we're assuming they're 100% drop (??). Never dropped clusters for us and oddly dropped Sam and Me many times, but the Nin and Drk never once! We think the repop time is somewhere around 1hour :x

Yay to Colton, Damascus, and Manaboy ^^b

Ok I don't think repop times is 30 minutes..

Haven't actually timed it but it's got to be greater than 30 min.

smallest party i've done it with is
nin/war
rdm/nin
blm/whm

took us like 25 min?

We tried to trio a ul~yovra tonight.

Blm/whm
Nin/war
Pld/whm

Our strategy was:
1. nin tank of course
2. Blm stun ws attacks, DoT and small nukes on it
3. Pld help eat up that poison AoE damage and heal

We fought it for a little over an hour, then pld moved out of ws range to heal and I (nin) took the full 1k damage from the poison AoE and died. Had RR hairpin up though..... and managed to tank even w/ my weakness. After it wore off, we were so happy because we had a clean shot at killing it.... had it down to 15% then pld moved out of Poison ws range again and I died again. No reraise this time so we wiped @ 15%. Definetly able to be triod though, so gl to those who try it.

did this last week w/ nin/war, drk/thf, rdm/whm, blm/whm... nin died first time out due to a casting error. we zoned, and regrouped... tried again, won with relative ease. patience + strat = win.

I've heard it's been done with nin, brd, rdm... just takes a lot longer.

Killed two of these with the following setup:
72 Whm/blm
75 War/nin
75 Blm/whm
75 Blm/rdm
It's not easy. Having a refresher would have made it a lot smoother.
They're weak to ice, and aspirable.
Luminous Drape I think is "charmga".
Some other move puts Frost on everyone.
Fluorescent something gives it a boost effect on the next attack, and it's HUGE. ~800 dmg normal attack, it critted me for 1,450. It can be blinked since it's a normal attack, but try to dispel it anyway.

Oh, one more thing worth mentioning is that they have pretty considerable autoregen, which works even while they're asleep. (And they don't seem to resist sleep at all). Can easily land Gravity, too.

This thing isn't very resistant to magic in general, as long as you cast the right spells. (Like as a BLM I wasn't able to land Paralyze.)

The Ul'Yovra (low lvl ones) are kinda easy
a full 75 party can take em down in 10 min kinda
repop time is 30 min and only 2 low lvl and 2 high lvl are up at the same time

-ninja tanking is kinda a must, if you can stick blind you evade a lot on them

-whm/smn or whm/blm and brd/whm helps a lot couse of AoE and multiple erase and flash when utsusemi down

-blm do what blms usually do paying attention to dun get hate

2 DD classe i had i think 2 war/nin for helping tank and DD

the only real danger with that setup is the AoE charm but it last very few time like 5-30 sec usually so basically mages run away till it wore
off and tanks regain hate couse it resets it on charmed people

other than that have a couple of macros to reequip your character and you should be fine

Wow

    [*]500damage AoE with poison
[*]A move that strips your character so he's wearing no equipment
    [*]~200 damage AoE with weight
    [*]~200 damage AoE with stun
[*]AoE that gives you drown with something crazy like -30STR
    [*]a permenant 100+hp/tick regen

  • They can also do around 300 damage per hit to most classes.

Really nasty mobs to fight >.<

I was in Al'Taieu after finishing the BCNM right before you get access to sea (Where you fight Tenzen). This thing agro'd on the way to one of the 3 towers you need to go to for 8-1. It uses AoE charm :3 and it took awhile to kill but we were able to kill it with a NIN,BLM,WHM,WHM,RNG,WAR. It didn't drop anything =(
