Blm duo

Did this last night with Blm duo. Took forever, to the tune of 6 hours, though it could probably be done in less than 2. The biggest issue was learning how far you could get out before GTC would shed aggro and, once bio wore, begin regening. We had it down to 37% when this happened to us...by the time we reclaimed, it was at 100%. Unfortunate.

If you have a party willing to go in and kill this thing, don't ever duo it, unless like my friend and I you want a good challenge. The only thing duoing might give you is bragging rights. It might be possible to solo it as Blm, but it would be very hard with the add that spawns. But as I've learned with this game, very little is truly impossible with the right gear and mindset...though I won't be trying to solo any Cerb's anytime soon (Some things are impossible lol).

So just wanted to let people know that Blm duo is possible, Blm + Rdm might be easier, but hate share would likely be a bit harder.

Fortunately this marathon fight did indeed yield us an Uggly Pendant (with an NQ knife)...which we promptly sold as we both have one already. Also managed to get 2 magnolia lumber to drop from killing the adds as we went along. Eventually we realized it was just easier to do it this way.

Some notes on the fight in this setup:
Have the person that doesn't have hate cast Bio II on it, and don't be afraid to nuke. Swapping hate is the only way to take this thing down in any amount of reasonable time. Prepare to die, and expect the worst case scenario to happen. Other than that...don't do this. It's arduous at best. But, yay us!! Freebytes and Petite duoed this mob July 13, 2008!

we did 2 NQ knives with ease then 1 +1 and we almost got pwnd hardcore style. it was rough. did it with 7. 5 blm, brd, and whm. GL with this everyone.

Edit: we realized after the fight that for the majority of the fight it was lights day and we think thats what made it hard not the +1. GL again.

We did this guy last night, its a fun fight. It is definately different than most NM's. Beastmasters pawn for this fight (Just remember to bring a detrimite down from the higher levels before the final drop). That or use the new HQ jug pets eft, detrimete and antlion all hit this guy for 40-75 a shot consistantly (compared to bst axe 20-40, thf dagger 5-10, sam katana 30-60, only DD we had smacking this thing around); oddly jug dammage seemed unaffected by this guys high def melee weapons, maybe due jugs being considered "Magic damage" by SE weapons calculations (not sure). Smns are awesome DD for this fight as well as the BPs from most advatars hit him for 400-600.

Other than that, nothing new to add, that has not been covered. other than to repeat the kite like made idea and that if you have 3-4 melee pounding this guy, deaths should be really rare as he seems to have a pretty decent rate of inturptions due to constant pounding by melee.
Few Tips

Hello
My ls have taken this NM down 10+ times this sunday so I thought I would put in few tips on getting the best run possible out of it.

If you are looking to find how to get to this NM look down below for great guide Mindlessbb have posted.

First to pop the NM, Best person to pop the NM is thief with flee already on. He will cast as soon as he pops and what he cast is all luck. He does and will cast Death first so be ready to run ASAP.

Fight:
Now on to battle. A tank is harly needed for this NM but a PLD or a NIN with very high enmity gear is nice to hold hate on. But sooner or later tank will loose hate on this NM to anyone over damaging the tank's hate.NM attacks are many -ga spells including silencga, paralzga, -ga IIIs and ofcourse Death.

Key point to success run is that anyone holding hate of this NM start running out of magic range and keep running. Standing still will allow him to cast off -ga spells and if he does get -ga III spells off chances are you will loose alot of people within range.

Death spell takes about 3-4 seconds to go off. Any tank kiting can avoid his death spell without problem. Key is keep running. Have one person follow him around to let the party know If he change the direction of moving which means he have switched his target. Weapon skill can and will stun him but it's point less to stun him due to fact that You can avoid his death by just being out of his cast range. Kiting is only way to kill this NM because he is not silencable. We had 2 75 RDMs in party and could not silence him once. He have very high DEF against melee attacks so don't expect to Kill him quickly with skill chains. All in all this NM is very safe fight long as you keep him running and person with most locked keep on running out of NM's magic range.

Drops:
Regular knife we used dropped about 70% with no THF in party. I do not know the actually drop rate but in our run it was 7/10

Good luck on anyone going to fight this NM and be reasy to have fun and laugh when someone get Death on them. Please have a WHM to stand by raise the people because when he switch his hate on someone else. That person will not have long time to run is death is first cast NM does. This fight is very run and unique. If you care about not dying I hope your the WHM, if not just don't go. Your death rate is 85% guarenteed

The only way I see Voke interrupting a cast is by forcing the NM to move in a new direction toward the voker and the initial target is already out of range. In itself a voke will never stop a cast...

It will only because if the voker over rided inital hate holder. With that NM stop casting and go after the new Hate holder

Just FYI, our LS has done 9 runs, all with NQ knives, and we have had 8 drops. The drop rate with NQ knife is not nearly as bad as some people are letting on.

"Provoke" interrupts his casting

While fighting this half way thru we discovered you can Provoke him while he casts death and it will interrupt his casting. will also stop his aga 3 too. trust me.
"Provoke" interrupts his casting
# Sep 02 2006 at 11:08 PM Rating: Decent
I can confirm this. The catch is when provoking you must make him turn away from whoever has hate in order to interrupt the spells. Make sure no single person has too much hate, as provoke will not cause him to turn. When I helped with this fight we had 2 pairs of vokers, in front and in back of him, with a voke order set up to alternate his direction. This worked much more smoothly than kiting, and the only time death was an issue was when someone grabbed too much hate due to ws. Something I found helpful (as SAM) was not swapping in STR items before ws, so I could do a moderate amount of damage without messing up the hate. As long as you're quick on interrupting his spells and managing hate this guy is extremely easy.

Woot got my pendant today - All BST and SMN alliance pwned this little bugger :D It was the most fun NM ever. We popped it and sicked all our pets on it, and just watched him run around. Was perfect to start then he started poppin us down with Death. Anyways, we had 12 ppl so more than enough, 2 WHM's 4 SMN and 6 BST :D Easy

Alright, everything is pretty accurate here, but I want to give a more detailed strategy on how to actually fight this guy and win. This is not like any notorious monster fight in the game. You do not straight up beat down this mob. Its not Hakutaku, not a god, its not Serket, its something totally different. First of all, you DO NOT NEED A TANK. Yes, you heard me. While having a pld is nice to be able to flash the mob, you dont need a tank. This guy doesnt melee at all. All he does is cast spells, Tier IV, aga III, silencega, paralyna, and death.

You should have 2 redmages to gravity this *****, 3 black mages to nuke, and a lot of melee, a lot. Whomever has hate, just have them run in the circle. Then have the redmages gravity, with the melee chasing behind it just beating it down when it stops to cast on the kiter. If the kiter goes down from death or anything else, quickly establish who has hate and have that person begin kiting. Tanks are pretty useless since death goes through shadows and paladins fall just as easy as other people when they get nuked. IF you have beastmasters, that great to use for this fight. You really cant lose if you have like 4+ melee beating on it at all times, since we have done like 12 runs and found out that while yes, you cant stun his spells, if your constantly beating his *** melee style, most of his spells will get resisted.

Whatever you do, dont stop ever. You have to be running the whole time. You can kill this guy in like 10 minutes with this strategy. I can only imagine what it would be like with like 6 bsts pummeling his ***. So remember, no tanks, just bring a lot of melee and a rdm to gravity him and your set.

This NM is very easy with a good group. Stun WS's work very well and are rarely resisted, unlike the spell. LS went 3/4 on the drop, all NQ knives. It's a vey fun fight. Gravity sticks very well. Though kiting is easy, but not necessary. Just run if you have hate. It casts a variety of spells. sleepga, paralyzega, silencega, gaIII, death and lvIV tier spells. It's really easy if you have a bunch of meele stun WS it.

This mob's easy. Even if your linkshell isn't very skilled, it's literally impossible to wipe to, as you can kite him for HOURS without getting hit once.

He does not melee attack at all, just casts spells. Only things to watch out for are -gas and Death. Death goes through shadows and...kills you :P

He has very little HP, gets owned by all kinds of DD, and is pretty basic. We didn't even have to kite him. About a 5 minute battle each time with maybe 7-8 deaths at MOST. Our WHMs even meleed and Hexa Striked a bit. Overall just a very good time.

Except the drop rate on an NQ knife blows. HQ knife is 100% drop though. :)

The level of tonberry hate you have does not affect the strength of the latent effect. The effect is a fixed Magic Atk. Bonus +8. I've done some tests and posted the results in the Black Mage forum if you're interested in the specifics.

# Jun 28 2005 at 9:11 PM Rating: Decent
This NM is a joke. It takes hours for the friggin' stuff to drop from the few tonberries that have it, then the fight itself there's a high chance all DDs and kiters are gonna die at least 3 times, then it's a lottery to whether after all that the item drops or not. I was with friends killing tonberries for over 8 hours (only 2 stabbers are safely accessible in the sozu rogueberry area and only 1 jamberry spawns in the basement of Pso'xja where you pop the NM) and after several deaths the NM didn't drop the item. Huge waste of time and gil from buying the ingot to make the dagger.

The repop on the ??? is about 15-20min.(i didn't exactly time it)

NM fight will last anywhere from 15-25min with 18 people.

Our linkshell went 5/10 on pendant drops. All popped with NQ knives. 10 fights took about 6.5hrs. With TH2 btw.

Bring at least 2 WHM and 2 PLD. 3 would be advised there will be lots of death. Our main tank died 14 times and there was at least 50 deaths in 10 runs. If you can bring 2 SAM's they will be your best defense against this NM...read on.

NM will not melee. He will only cast Magic. No AM that i saw just ga3's, parlyzega, silencega, tierIV nukes, CureIV's.

He cannot be silenced, but Gravity and Bind will stick. He resists the spell Stun quite often, so much that it cannot be relied on.

As a 74 Ninja, 40% of my attacks hit for 0. I'm guessing it has some sort of trait that annuls damage. 30% 10-20dmg and 30% 40-50(mostly when Beserk was up)

The best way to tank it is have PLDs kite it. Gravity him and melee chase him around. He will stop often to cast magic so there will be plenty of time to hit him. PLD's need to remain as far as possible while kiting so you can outrun his spells. He casts the spell "Death" which will kill you instantly and has about a 2 second cast time. The spell can be Stunned with a WS however. This is where SAM's come in. If they save thier TP and spam tachi: Habaku when it casts the battle is easy. Our SAM(we only had one) easily saved 40 lives. He will cast Death anywhere from 15-35 times per fight. So its imperative to have WS stuns ready. Flat Blade, Smash Axe, and Leg Sweep will also work.

Hope this helps any linkshell attempting this.
Fast Blade?

The sword skill for stun is Flat Blade isnt it? I didn't think Fast Blade had stun effect.

Guide to obtaining your very own ‘Uggalepih Pendant’

Step 0: Introduction

Uggalepih Pendant was added in the April 05 Content Update. It drops from a Tonberry Notorious Monster in Pso’xja. The NM is force spawned from a ‘???’; the trigger for this NM is the Odorous Knife, also added in the same update. Please note, I am a 75BLM/37RDM, Elvaan, your mileage might vary from what is written in this guide.

Step 1: The Knife

The Odorous Knife is crafted from 3 synthesis materials: White Steel, Magnolia Lumber, and a Darksteel Ingot. The synthesis requires Smithing, and woodworking. Exact caps are unknown at this time, but Smithing 80+ and Woodworking 25+ can definitely succeed. Both the White Steel and the Magnolia Lumber can only be purchased from Bazaars or traded. They can not be Auction Housed, or Mailed.

White Steel: This steel drops from Tonberry Stabbers located in the Temple of Uggalepih. There are reportedly ten spawn locations for the Stabbers. They are Ninjas, and level ranges from 61-67. The only place I could find them was at G-8 and I-7 on the map that the Thief Knife NM spawns. The G-8 location is the recommended one, if you are feeling a bit dangerous, you can try to hit up both locations. These mobs were Easy Prey to me at 75. They are not that difficult to solo, with 780 MP, I can chain cast Blizzard 4, Thunder 4 and Fire 4, and kill it on one MP pool. I suggest taking some pebbles for pulling. There are 2 Pots that circle the G-8 location and they aggro magic. Pulling to the stairs near the zone line will prevent the pots from adding. Also be wary of the bees, they aggro sight. These also can be taken out with a single MP pool. However these hit harder, so I recommend using Bind to fight them.

Magnolia Lumber: This lumber drops from Cryptonberry Stalkers (THF) in the uncapped section of Pso’xja. The ones I farmed were located in the tower at G-9 of Beaucedine Glacier, this is an Uncapped Area. These mobs are level 53-60. They are ‘Too Weak’ to me at 75. They are fairly easy to kill. Combining nuking with melee, I could kill all 5 of the tonberries in the area without resting. There are two Stalkers, one near the entrance, and on a little bit in, on the staircase. The tonberries are the only mobs that aggro in the immediate area. The lizards there do not aggro. I would like to note, if you decide to go exploring, at the top of the stairs, there is a room with a ‘???’. If you examine it, 2 doll type mobs will spawn, and the door to the room will close. Your only way out is warp, or escape. You can not win this fight solo, at any given time, one of them is immune to magic, and the other is immune to physical, and they alternate at will.

Darksteel Ingot: Buy at the Auction House.

Step 2: The Cryptonberry: Golden-Tongued Culberry

The NM: Golden-Tongued Culberry is a Tonberry type mob. He wears the red robes that the other Cryptonberries in Pso’xja wear. His level is in the low 80s, based on the XP earned at the end of the fight. He is a BLM-WHM combo mob, and can cast all of the Tier 3 –gas, and Tier 4s. He can also cast Silencega and other status –gas. In addition to this he is also the only non-dynamis mob that can cast Death. He is highly resistant to both Silence and Paralyze, and is completely immune to the spell Stun. He can, and will cast Cure IV on himself. He also has all the normal Tonberry abilities: Everyone’s Grudge/Rancor, Lateral Slash, Vertical Slash, and Throat Stab.

The Path: My directions will be based upon the maps located at http://www.ffxi-atlas.com Enter the tower marked as Tower 1 on the Beaucedine Glacier Map (F-7). From here, head down the hall until you enter the room, go East, and drop down hole ‘G’ at I-8. Now head north into the big round room, then west, then north again to drop down hole ‘H’ at I-7. From here head north and west, you will want to drop down the first hole you come to (Hole ‘S’ at I-6). Before you drop, please take note of the following: in the next room is an Archaic Chest. It is a Mimic type mob, and very difficult. Also in this room is a spawn for a Dark Elemental. When we fell through we were aggroed by the Chest, and couldn’t cast cures because of the VT elemental. According to Mystery Tour, the Chest will only aggro to sound. So before anyone takes the fall, make sure you are all sneaked. Walk out of the room with the chest, and you are in the kiting room. Climb the left staircase, and take the western tunnel to find the ‘???’. After the fight, if you are low on Escapers, if you take the East tunnel, you will find a teleporter to the top of Pso’xja. Make sure you review the maps before you go so that you know your route, the ‘???’ is clearly marked on the maps at Vana’diel Atlas. My alliance easily fought its way through Pso’xja to the NM spawn. The mobs are not very dense, and the top floor is all ‘Too Weak’. The second floor is ‘Easy Prey’ and the third floor is ‘Decent Challenge’ (all to a level 75).

The Strategy: Very close to the location of the NM is a LARGE open room. The recommended strategy is kiting it. If you kite it, the tank will be able to run out of range of the NM’s spells. Death is a very fast cast time, so unless you are already at max range when he starts casting, you’re going down. Utsusemi will not absorb Death. As I mentioned before, the NM is immune to the spell Stun. However, stunning weapon skills, such as Fast Blade, DO work.
In the room below the spawn point, there is a single Tonberry pop, I recommend someone with a sword, get 100% TP on that before you pop the NM. Use the hallway that the NM spawns in, as a staging ground, rest up MP, rest away weakness, etcetera. Set up a stun order between 2-3 people. Have them use weapon skills to stun Death. We had one Paladin with Joyeuse doing it, alone. Joyeuse built up TP fast enough for Fast Blade. The key to this fight is, keep moving. Normal melees can stay engaged, just be careful with weapon skills. Paladins, Ninjas, Rangers, and Black Mages need to keep moving at all times. Stop just long enough to attack/provoke/WS, then start running again. And ‘Don’t Panic’ it’s a fun fight, just make sure people who pull hate bring an XP buffer. I highly recommend two White Mages w/ Raise 3. We did it with one, but it was rough until we figured out we could stun with weapon skills, all she ever really did was raise. My group was an alliance of 16, this was probably overkill, but we were still together from a trip to sky. We had PLDx3, NIN, BLMx2, RNG, WHM, THF, MNK, SAM, DRG, RDM, SMN

The Drop: If the NM is spawned with an Odorous Knife +1, the drop is 100%. If spawned with a normal quality, it is not. I will not give a percentage on the normal quality spawn, because I do not have any data to back it up. I have heard 25%, 50%, and even one 75%. My alliance had a Thief with us, and we got the pendant on the first kill.

Step 3: The Pendant

http://syb.kicks-***.net/downloads/Pendant.jpg

The latent effect trigger is MP. It kicks on when you are at or below 50% of your maximum MP.
The Magic Attack Bonus given by the pendant varies from +1 to +10. The amount is directly proportional to your Tonberry Hate. The more hate you have, the more MAB you get.

Excellent guide except one thing. he won't use normal Tonberry moves like Grudge/Rancor, Throat Stab yadda yadda yadda cause he doesn't engage, he uses no TP attacks, only the listed spells. Other than that, this guide is dead on.

Although totally unproven, I believe TH2 multiplies drop rate percents instead of adding to them.

For example, drop rate on ram skins are maybe 50% without TH1-2. TH2 ups the drop rate to at least 200%, as I usually get 3-5 skins versus non-THF 1.

On almost every run I've done on these new items, the base drop rate seems 50%. With a THF, it's almost always near 100%, maybe like 90% ^^v
