I Logged in at 5:30 and i killed sheep on vomp hill for 45 minutes and he popped i killed him easily as a War20/Mnk10 and i got drop.
I never saw Carnero, everyone is saying I-8/I-9.
May spawn within 24 earth hours...may venture
north of mountain. Theres like 3 level on the
mountain. Can it be a specific spawn location
like at the very top of the Mountain?
If there is just one player hunting this NM
down, is there a raw place to spot him POP?

Was running around Vomp hill on my mule trying to level thf to 15 so i can farm alchamey materials in the region with it when I came upon this NM. It killed me the first time. The 2nd time I went back, claimed it and kited til someone was nice enough to accept my pty invitation, a 51thf. He killed it with a few swings and I let him lot on the GK that dropped. I lotted 95 and he lotted 43 so I got the GK lol

The Spawn is in I-9.. there is a small cove in which it spawns next to 2 other sheep spawns.. If the NM goes unclaimed for some time it will venture toward I-8. If memory serves me it is the north side of the hill.. not the south where you climb up to the 2nd lvl. Easy kill, easy drop.. Love this ktna for my sam. :)
After 3 lovely RL hours.. I never even got a glimpse of this NM. Although with the 5stacks of G. Sheep Meat, 30 Sheepskins, 4 Stacks of Beehive Chips, and 2 stacks of Wild Onions the night wasn't completely lost.
Edit: Stuck around for 1 more RL hour after dropping off my aquired items to the MH. It spawned in the S/E sector of I-9 and dropped the gktn.

dang i was helping my LS bud get a Gk and i recomended this and it took 2 and a half hours to find it and after a while of us both using flee we killed it then as we were headed out another pop 1/2 on this
It took me a while but I finally got it. I actually found him chillin' in I-8 so if you were just camping at that ledge in I-9, roam around. :)

I was duoing my BST with a WHM LS friend when it popped. After checking it and talking to the LS who mentioned it was around lvl 20 and drops the Great Katana, I asked the WHM if she wanted to take it. Took the shot and I kept the hate. She got a few hits in but used her MP to cure me until *thud*. After my demise I HPed and it ignored her. I swapped to my 25 RDM ran back up and killed it, forgot to cast Blaze spikes until it was almost dead. Easy kill and got the drop. She got the sword so I camped it for 60min and killed it again. Spawns in I-8 or I-9 (two areas Ive noticed). 100% drop rate and spawns around 45-60minutes(might be a 2 hour spawn at the most)

Dont know if anyone else did this (maybe those that said they camped for 7+ hours and no spawn) but Carnero spawns on the Second Level. This means one level below the TOP. Vomp Hill is built like this:

Dont come off the ground level and think that is the second level, he spawns one more up. anyway i camped like 3 hours killing sheep in I-8 and I-9 because i thought i was on the second level. went up a level and it popped in about 15 minutes ; ;. Good luck.

OK, ran into this one again. As I was running around the hill, I was killing Onery sheep for the 'fresh blood' to get Chocobleech and I ran into Carnero again. I saw a RNG leveling on the hill and since I already have the GKT, I sent a /tell to him to come around and get it if he wanted. He was only a Level 9 RNG so I stayed around to keep curing him and 'tank'. After he got it, we talked for about 5 mins or so and after we parted ways, I turn the corner and there's Carnero again! I'm not sure if that's the regular rate but it seems like he spawns pretty fast.

I was running around the hill leveling my WAR which was only level 7 or 8 at the time. I saw him, checked and saw "Impossible to Gauge!", then I thought, hmm.. never heard of you. It was surrounded by a bunch of low level folks and so I rushed it, it killed me and everyone else ran. Then I came back with my 60 RDM and killed em. I love stumbling across NMs on accident.

I was out as Drg20/Sam10 on Vomp farming bees with a friend of my mine when I camp across this NM. I didn't know what the heck he was for but just for fun I jump on him, engage and kill him in less than a min Got the drop and cool it just happens to be my next GK. Katayama Ichimonji 1/1

This guy was annoying. I started camping it yesterday. I trained sheep as mentioned above and got fresh blood. I had thf sub at the time so I just went and killed the Leech for the katana with the fresh blood. I hurried back to Bastok and changed to rng sub for widescan and returned to the hill where I camped for an hour then D/Ced due to Internet problems around the area. I came back on later and camped for an hour and 45 mins until I got kicked off again and remained off for the night. I was angry, but then I came back this morning, trained sheep for another 2 hours and it finally popped, and I got the drop. ^^

that is a list of the quasi new NMs that are from the n00b zones, 3 main krags and 3 dungeons.. all under lvl 25.. all 100% drop.. the noob zone ones under 2hr spawn.. others simple things to do to spawn them... this is a good list of "Intro to NM Hunting" Enjoy ^^

I agree, because i've spent 3 hours camping this mob, and no pop, but the other day i spent 10 minutes killing sheep and pop, there was teh carnero, and got my uber GK :-P

I killed this twice recently while leveling my MNK. I was level 12 the first time and level 13 the second time, and each time I got the XP for a DC mob one level below you... so est. level range is 10-12. Had to use Hundred Fists both times.

Logged in after the emergency maintenance ran to Vomp Hill....killed a sheep sheep on the 2nd level and with the second go around there was Carnero. 15 secs later the prized Katayama Ichimonji was mine! Agreed...think its a 100% drop.

I myself have just completed the SAM quest and was checking somepage for some info on this GK. I read about in a SAM equipment guide post. Waiting for this maintanence deal do be done so I can camp and get this awesome looking GK. I will keep you guys posted on when I get it ^^
yea, i was bored with my lvl 12 mnk one day...decided to go camp this guy for when i start sam. i run around killing sheep and i lvl up, and it spawns after about 30 mins. i go claim it and hit 100 fists since im only at about 50% hp. then i start d/cing. i *almost* d/c but at the last moment come back...to find i have died.
i HP to dunes, run all the way to bastok, d/cing all the way, switch to warrior, come back and kill its ***...got drop prolly 100% drop rate.

I was camping Carnero for -7 and a half hours!- and I didnt see him onece, I was killing place holders and everything, I ended up getting like 20 sheep skins from all the sheep trains I made and a fresh blood, that I went to wadi and got Gassan for NIN. I only got this guy because a new friend that I met on vomp hill told me he found it, and invited me to PT, I got the drop, and was happy, but after -7 and a half- hours- >.<

I've been camping this NM for two days now and he didn't pop at all .. I spent at least 5 hours there and he didn't , 2:30 hours straight and nothing ... I'm afraid that they removed him ....

Carnero is still around. I was leveling my Dragoon (level 9 at the time) last night, engaged a sheep without realizing it was a NM, got killed, changed job back to my high level War/Rng, got back the Hill, and could not find it on Widecan anymore >< Saw a BST with a rabbit familiar around. He must have killed it. ><
Update:
I saw Carnero last night again, about the same time I went up Hill to level my Dragoon the night before. So, could it be a 24 hour spawn? This time I got luck. Nobody claimed it after I changed job back to War. I got the GK. :p

Yeah so my first FFXI's friend, Neosita, has a B-Day in 14 days... so i see shes Lving SAM and in Gustaberg... so im thinking to myself, "hey, theres an NM in gustaberg that drops a sweet GKT... im getting it for her!" so i go to his spawn and after maybe 30-45 mins get the spawn and, cuz no one else is around, claim. i SA for 165 and Tachi: Enpi for 305... its dead this think had about 300 i believe... anyway i invite her to party and shes like, "Leo, why did u invite me?," so i give her quartermaster and she gets the GKT and was soo happy ^^ that made my day w00t for Neosita!!!

Fought this yesterday as a 30WAR/14MNK, trying to get deathbringer, and i notice this NM, so i decide to kill it for fun, took out my GAxe and killed it in a matter of minutes, and got the Gkatana Katayama Ichimonji, so its 1/1 for me right now, and boy were my eyes watering when i got it, i felt very special, now all i need to do is get SAM and then i can use it.
