Contents [hide]

General Information

  • Spawned by clicking on the Fallen Egg that appears at (I-6), (J-6), (L-7), (L-10), and (L-11) in La Theine Plateau.

    • Clicking on the Fallen Egg may, in place of spawning Nihniknoovi, produce a Bird Egg, or result in the message "There is a broken egg on the ground here. Perhaps there is a nest in the boughs of this tree.

    • Regardless of what result occurs, the Fallen Egg will disappear and respawn 5 minutes later in another location.

Nihniknoovi's Special Attacks

  • Wing Cutter: Frontal cone AoE Wind based magic damage.

  • Helldive: Single target physical damage.

Historical Information

In most western Native American mythology, the Nihniknoovi is said to be a large, ferocious hawk that would attack humans and carry them off to its nest in the mountains, where it would then devour them.

I just killed the Nihniknoovi today i counted his health. i am not sure if an NM's health changes in different spawns but i used mighty strikes (WAR30)/MNK15) so i could finish him and get back to lvling PLD12/WAR6 and he had at most (for me) 945 HP. I hope this helps anyone else out there.

Took him down on sunday with no trouble at all. He did the same amount of damage as the mobs in the same area. This means a NIN or PLD around 20-22 could probably take him no trouble (with their own respective spells). Normal defense as well so there shouldn't be any problem with damaging him. He had around 895 HP for me. This is when being a THF (we use low-damage weapons) comes in handy, i.e. gauging HP. Go DoT.
He wont spawn for me =(

I tried yesterday to get the bird to spawn. The first 3 times I got the egg, I only received the bird egg but no spawn. However, after that, every egg I picked up, I received a message saying "there is a broken egg on the ground, there might be a nest in the boughs of this tree." after like 10 more times of this I called it quits.

Remember Random is Random. you can not predict it. Keep trying it. You will get it soon. It took me a while too. Just hop on a choco from Holla Crag and ride around until you find it again. I spent 7 hours for a lotterry pop. I knew the Drop was 100% which is why i waited, keep at it i know you can do it.

I got this yesterday while camping most of the beginner NMs. This was the last on my list but was an item I was really looking forward to. I went to La Thiene and checked the first location (top-most one on the map above...past the stone for SMN quest)/ Checked all around and didn't see any egg. I then walked down to the middle spawn point on the map, near Junger Forest zone and saw the Fallen Egg. I touched it, got a bird egg and then it said something like "The owner of the nest appears in a fury" (dunno exactly). But Nihniknoovi spawned after that was said, killed it and got drop. This has to be the best neck piece for a tank in dunes in my opinion.

lol my post was too long...
that is a list of the quasi new NMs that are from the n00b zones, 3 main krags and 3 dungeons.. all under lvl 25.. all 100% drop.. the noob zone ones under 2hr spawn.. others simple things to do to spawn them... this is a good list of "Intro to NM Hunting" Enjoy ^^

*I originally tried this NM as 17smn/8whm and got him down to 25% health. He was the 2nd toughest of my listed NMs (NM orc in FG was toughest). So under lvl 20 maybe a tough fight for this birdbrain.

anyone know what lvl this bird is?
Respawn time
# Sep 16 2005 at 5:51 AM Rating: Decent
Ok, heres the deal. Me and a friend was after this bird and the information is correct about 5mins between each "Fallen Egg" spawn. However, once you kill the NM, it takes 30mins for the "Fallen Egg" to start spawning again.

m(~,~)m I hope this helps for people going in groups to hunt.

P.S. He is very quick. My friend is a MNK and did "hundred fists" for the hell of it and it kept up the pace lol.
Birdie engaged!
# Aug 31 2005 at 2:38 PM Rating: Decent
I decided to hunt this bird a bit for my Samurai, as there is not much else that is even decent for a neck piece at low levels. Took me 5 tries, but it spawned finally.

To any low people who want to hunt this thing, it has insane attack speed. It's almost like it has a Hundred Fists effect always active. Lots of critical hits from it too. So just be careful.

I was a WHM56/BLM28, so I had no trouble, but still, be careful. It's one fast birdie ^^

And I got the drop as well. 1/1 doesn't prove 100% drop rate of course, but just thought I'd add that.

ok i check like 4 fallen egg, a got an bird egg the 3rd time. Now no fallen egg pop anymore... O.o

where the heck that big supose to pop next? in front of you or the 3 spawn point?

Edit: Well ive return today and the 2nd time i made it pop. So it seems like a 100% like all say. but its not a 100% pop when you get bird egg. Someone say hes quick... well its not quick lol it looks like hundred fist lol j/k. Yes he is very quick thats for sure. But only miss me anyway. good luck and happy hunting^^

Origin of it's name.

For those of you curious as to the origin of this bird's name, it stems from Kawaiisu (Native Americans) mythology. The Kawaiisu were an offshoot of the Chemehuevi. They lived in the Tehachapi Mountains and maintained possession of the Tehachapi Pass, the Walker Basin and a few of the southern affluents of the Kern River (Mohave Desert). Kawaiisu legend tells of a fierce hawklike creature, known as Nihniknoovi, who carries people to his mountain home and eats them.

Heres some more info:

Spawn conditions :

Will appear randomly when "Fallen egg" point is checked, you may or may not get an bird egg at each point you check. If the bird does not spawn, the point will re-spawn within 5 min ('ish) somewhere else. It spawned on the third point I checked.

Spawn location :

I have seen the point appear at I,J-6, L-7, on La-Theine plateu.

Monster:

This mob attacks quite quickly, but did no dammage to me at lvl 59 as a PLD, so I won't even hazzard a guess at lvl. It has approximately 900 hp, and as a bird, I would assume it would be weak to percing weapons.

The pendant dropped on the first fight, so I assume it is a 100% drop (from other information as well).

Good luck, and good hunting

I got the J-6 spawn on my way to Jueno. I checked the Fallen Egg point and recieved a Bird Egg and Nih spawned. Got the Van Pendant after he fell and from what I hear it seems to be 100%.

Drop is worthless though. Does anyone know of anything the drop is good for? Skill ups, quest, synth?

I woudn't say the drop is worthless, theres not much else at this level for neck wear, and Def 3 isn't all together horrible.

The bigger question is how does the -1% crit hit rate work. I can see two possible ways this functions.

1) If a crit hit is scored, there is a 1% chance of avoiding it. In this case yes, the added effect is somewhat useless

2) The MOB has a 5-10% chance of scoring a critical hit each attack. If it is -1% from this base crit hit percentage, then you will see somewhere between a 10-20% reduction in critical hits, which is quite significant.

More experimentation is needed I would say.
Egg

I looked for this a few times. From what I hear the egg might not even spawn the bird sometimes.
Its drop doesnt look all that useful though

Nihniknoovi is (also) found in La Thiene Plateau when targeting a FallenEgg underneath a tree at certain locations.
