Bugbear Matman Picture

General Notes

  • To spawn this NM, trade an Air Tank to the Moblin Showman at I-9.
  • Resists all forms of sleep except for repose.
  • Uses Flying Hip Press, an AoE move that does 400-700 damage per attack.
  • Should clear the area of goblins before spawning the NM.

Just trio'd this. 75 THF/NIN, 71 WHM/SMN (me), 75 RDM/BLM. Very exciting fight. :p We popped it not really knowing what to expect (after clearing adds, which are mid 70s. Should be 1 Bugbear and 2 Goblins). Not too bad, he's not a MNK like the others (no constant double attack, yay^^ I guess he's a WAR, because he had double attack, just not 100%). I'd suggest fighting on the narrow walkway just before the 3 mobs. This way you can avoid aggros. The biggest danger is his AOEs, they do roughly ~700. >_< Mages really have to keep SS up. It's not a huge range, but it's hard to be out of range without getting aggros. The AOes are Flying Hip Press (strongest one), and Earthshock (not as strong, but does stun). Provided you keep everyone's HP up that is in AOE range, this is a fun and easy fight. We got the drop, yay. Popped with Air Tank if you didn't know. :p

Do not worry is not a virus or Hax, just a simple map i did windows paint with, the Red Dots Show a Quick route to the NPC in which you pop the Matman. the fournce(knows spelling isnt rite oh well) is what makes this route all the benefactory if you see a Player on the other side of the area just below teh fournce box ask them to pop it a few times so oyu may goe threw, you need Firesand, which isnt very cheap but is what makes things run smooth buy a stack of them just in case the pathway below fournce isnt open and see if you can get a mage or a high lvled player to the spot, refur to the map for route to this section. then just use the map diagram format and just follow it threw pretty much til you meet and greet NPC, kill monsters around it, step back, trade AIR TANK, and good luck do you a pt of 68+ may have a fair change if pt setup made rite, bring a THF with you so droprate will be fair. 6+ members is a Must for this fight informerys of droprate 50/50 has been reported so the drop rate is a 50% one you eather get it or not

To get there, go to http://www.ffxi-atlas.com

Pull up the Map of Oldtown and go to entrance three. Facing east there is a gap in the path to where entrance three is. You have to press three levers which will open three panels that will raise into place and allow you to walk accross the gap over a bridge.

The blue dots indicate the lever locations to control the bridge. One person should go to each of the three levers and learn how to operate them as well at the fast route back to the bridge so they can make it across.

That will get you into Newtown at the ONLY entrance you can use to make it to the camp.

Now, to kill the NM. When he pops, hes gonna take two swings right off the bat that is gonna hit everyone in range for 200-600 damage. Twice. So heres the way to take him down. Get everyone built up to 300% TP. If they have a Stun weaponskill have them use that. As soon as it pops, everyone lock on and hit Weapon Skill all at once. Then have mages fall back ut of AoE range and everyone do their jobs from there.

Have everyone go for max damage as fast as possible. To give you an idea, I am a BLM, I saved TP, hit him with Retribution, then fell back with the mages and castedn Thundaga III.

All that damage combined should drop him in a few seconds. Of course that is with like 12+ people. If you have a PT of 6, I am sure it's possible and I wish you the best but I only know the way I fought it with my group.

Boots dropped 1/3 for us. So good luck to you.

We went with 75 Whm, 75 Mnk/Nin (tank), 71 Mnk/War, 72 War/Nin, 72 Drk/War, and me (68 War/Nin), we were tryin to get them for my Drk friend. Well, its AOE 2-shotted *half* the party, but Mnk/Nin and higher War/Nin lived, Whm was out of range, kept them alive. Didn't get either of the drops ><

AOE did 680 to each of us, ignored my shadows (higher War/Nin's 3 shadows took the dmg all at once). It did the AOE at start of fight, twice very fast. Some of its other attacks ignored Mnk/Nin's shadows, but weren't too bad. We had read this forum before going, and weren't expecting a bloodbath, we think sometimes it's worse than others... Got Raise3's though LOL

"-2% haste cant notice much for duel weps"

Actually people tend to blow that stat out of proportion.

Think about it:

I'm a 75 Warrior, I dual Wield 2 Axes, with ~300 delay each. Dual Wield II trait takes away 100 from the total of the 2 weapons combined, and Suppannomimi takes away an extra 50. That being said, my Weapon Delay on both Axes is 450.

What is 2% of 450? 9.

OHNOES these boots add 9 delay to my attack, pff.

Slow% also affects the time it takes to cast a spell or Ninjitsu. Utsusemi: Ichi takes 4 real-life seconds to cast. What is 2% of 4 seconds. Yeah, not very much is it.

Which is why i'll never pay the big bucks for stupid items like Speed Belt that gives a whopping 6% haste, yet costs 45-50 million on my server. Yeah i know it adds up, but it really isnt worth it.

from what i understood when slow is in effect, it is enhanced 2%, not a constant slow effect. If i'm wrong, meh. it says "+2%" instead of haste 2%, meaning you would have to have it in effect to receive it. i'm probably wrong, but haste and slow mean nothing to rng's.

No.. haste effects the recast time, not the actual casting time of spells.

path

there's 2 easy ways and 1 hard way to get to this NM.

First is to pay Twinkbrix in Oldton 10k gil to win the key item for the solo and 3-person-same-race ENM in Mine Shaft 2716. after you win pay him another 2k and he will warp you there, just exit and go west to the gate at J-8 then take the south path. If the south path is blocked, trade a firesand to the furnace at K-8.

2nd way is to enter Newton from the South entrance from Oldton, you will have to pass a Firesand Gate at F-10, if the gate is blocking the north path then this path will be blocked and you will have to find another way to get to the Moblin NPC. If it isnt then take the north path, at the intersection take a right and head east until you reach H-10, then the path will turn south. Keep going along this path and you'll reach another intersection at J-11 the path will go east then turn north. at the end of this path you'll see the Moblin Showman.

3rd and the hard way would be to take the main entrance to Newton movalpolos, which will take 2 people to get to the levers at the opposite side of the bridge at K-10 of Oldton Movalpolos. from there just go east until you get to the Gate at J-8 and head south.

very nice directions.

We did this with PLD75, WAR75, WAR72, WHM75 and RDM69. Didn't have to use any 2hour abilities, but beware of his AOE attack. As a previous poster mentioned, this hits for 500+ damage everytime, so keep your melees healed.
It is recommended to kill the surrounding monsters (2 moblins and a bugbear) first, because they will link. They con EM-Tough to level 75.

I was wondering if anybody could post how they got to the Moblin NPC? XD
I was searching all around Newton and was having trouble figuring out how to get past the gates and such. Any help would be appreciated, thank you in advance. ^^

HAW, thats me!

This NM really isnt all that hard, I would say 5 lvl 70+ or 4 lvl 75s can take him on no problem. I would recommend a ninja tank as well as a WHM for Curaga purposes since he does an AoE jump move that hits for 500+ damage at least 4 or 5 times during the fight.

The Rutter Sabatons are not a 100% drop, I am 2 for 3 with them, but I've heard of some people going 0 for 10+. So far the 2 that dropped are the only 2 that I've seen on my server so far (and I have 1 of them, w00t).

Also drops a Sylvan stone 100% of the time (ENM trigger item for Bugboy in Mine Shaft 2716) and Bugbear Mask.
