One question: has anyone seen this spawn in March or April? I have been there since 3/15/1000 (mostly AFK), did not touch the myxomycete when I arrived, and I can verify they didn't die for 40 hours, but no pop. Nothing. Finally, on 4/25/1000, a discourteous Beastmaster comes in, kills all the myxomycete, and warps out (not mentioning any names, but it starts with Valknova on Remora /shakesfist). I just wonder if we're wasting our time camping in April. Although, the timer would have to start in April to get spawns as early as 5/10 (which is the earliest I've seen, in a screenshot too).
It rains occasionally in March, but no pop. You get single-element water rain in April at least half the time, but get very few thunder and thunderstorms, and often get days where there is no effect or fog. May and June hardly ever see no weather effect, although it happens occasionally. You get frequent thunder and thunderstorms, but get alot of single-element rain too. In July it hardly ever rains (this starts on 7/1 too).
I reach the 18hr mark from last kill, and nobody has touched the funguar. Turns out, a Paladin waltzes in, pokes around the area, and engages one funguar because he thinks he's cool.
NM finally spawned on 5/24 VD time (Darksday). It definitely has to be raining for it to appear, although i had been camping for ~3hrs and had witnessed a NIN 2hr'ing a PH about 2hrs before pop...this could mean that killing the PHs doesn't reset NM timer at all o_O;;
75BRD/WHM Dark spore hit me for 200~ish. I wouldn't understimate this NM, probably not safe to camp below lv60-65 depending on job. GL everyone ^^/ Screenshot
Just saw this post - very interesting, and I want to clarify something.
Although there are 3 funguars in that area, i believe that only one of them is the placeholder for Noble Mold - If you have widescan, it would be the last one on the list.
This still doesn't mean that killing the placeholder does/does not reset some timer....I simply didn't camp it often enough to determine that one way or another. Unlike Rose Garden, where ppl almost have to hang around for 10+ pops, it's hard to nail down something like that.
All I know for certain is the times that Noble Mold DID appear for me, were times that no Funguars were killed. Possibly, only the 1 placeholder has to be alive, or possibly killing placeholders doesnt change anything.
I did some research on this subject as to where the idea of this NM might have come from and found something very interesting. I think this NM is based on the "noble rot" phenomenon that infects wine grapes. It's scientific name is Botrytis cinerea, and the result of noble rot is a very rare sweet wine. The events that cause noble rot are very rare, and they must occur in a certain order during the growing season. Botrytis cinerea starts to form while it is raining on the wine grapes as the spores from the infestation attach to the crop. If rain continues, this fungus will continue to invade the tissue and liquefy, diluting the sugars ad resulting in grey rot. This will destroy the crop. However, if the weather turns dry, the progression to grey rot is inhibited and the fungus will feed off of the water from the grapes, dehydrating them and leaving highly concentrated sugar. This is noble rot, and can be fermented into exceptionally fine wine.
interesting id say that leads to maybe a more valid theory possibly a cycle where it starts to rain then close to 5th month maybe month 4 has brief periods where it stops raining for a day or 2 at atime?
I've witnessed 2 spawns, gotten 1 claim and 0 drops. Both spawns on 5/12 VD time.
Question is, after 24 hours if the window is still open does he pop again? That seems to be the message but it's not clear. I will check again tonight, should be approximately 6/4 or 6/6.
Why do people have to kill every random thing they see? I was on my 8th hour camping and someone comes by and Asuran Fists my placeholders on 5/20/994. I wish the stupid monk would die.
Although rainy weather does begin often in month 3 and last til month 7, the spawns I have witnessed are in month 5 and 6. I have never seen it before 5/20 or after 6/6. Witnessed spawn dates 5/20, 5/28, 6/2, 6/6 and another I forgot to annotate in this same time. Oh the drop rate was crappy for me.
I killed this guy on Feb 10. I have looked up this post before (great info Turnerbrown), and I had noticed the dates posted. I'm in EU timezone, but I'm fairly sure that 7am in whatever timezone you're in had passed.
Nevertheless, I had the date in my head when I exited from Boyahda, and found that it was raining. With no real hope I decided to go over there anyways, and saw him on widescan! Ran over and killed him and got the hat (awesome as a fishing hat!).
It was Lightsday for me also... I know there are others who've gotten him on other days, but there sure seems to be a lot of people who've killed him on Lightsday. @_@
I saw that a JP Mithra was camping today, and I felt sorry for her. I /telld her that it would probably not spawn for a while. I tried to explain more based on this info here, but the language barrier annoyingly enough prevented me from making sense to her. Very frustrating, but at least I managed to tell her that it only spawns during the long rain period... She was very thankful that I tried to help at least, hehe.
The weather checker reported rain for Zi'tah over the next 3 days this evening, so I decided go take a look for Noble Mold. It was raining when I reached the spawn area, but unfortunately all I found were the 3 usual Myxomycetes. I walked to the end of the valley and decided to kill the Rock Golem there for the hell of it.
But when I was walking back through the spawn area, I noticed that one of the Myxomycetes had moved quite a distance from where it was a few minutes before. I nearly fell off my chair when I saw that it was actually Noble Mold. Killed it, but no drop.
Conditions at the time of spawn Lightsday Rain weather Around 15:00 game time Waxing Crescent moon (around 15%)
I've been camping this thing for about 3 weeks. (off and on depending on the forecast) Just yesterday i was heading to the boyada tree and decided to check up on it since it was raining. It was up. not that tough to kill, although i was on my 75 rdm. no drop ; ;
when i found it the conditions were as follows : Vana'diel : 5/28/988, windsday, 1:18 Waning Cresent (31%) Earth : Jan. 13, 2006 11:26:04 pm
it was raining when i saw it. i got claim right as it changed to double thunder and it didn't despawn. i'll be camping him again. i hope this helps^^
* Noble Mold spawns/morphs from a funguar at the south end of E-9. The placeholder must be alive for Noble Mold to spawn.
* It only spawns during rain (single water element).
* It can spawn on ANY day, contrary to what you may have read.
* Edit: Rainy weather occurs in Zitah beginning late in the 3rd month through early the 7th month of the Vana'diel year. The previous theory of moon cycles has proven to be false. Go by the calendar year to predict rain. * This means that you can expect a 3 day window within a two-week period for Noble Mold to spawn. Yes, it is THAT rare.
* The Weather NPC's in Jeuno will specifically predict "Rain" during this period, usually all three days.
* Once this period of almost daily rain begins, expect an 18-24 hr timer for the NM. Killing placeholders may reset this.
* Noble Mold has @4400 hitpoints, and gives xp equal to a level 50 mob.
* The hat is not a 100% drop, however it dropped 2 of the three spawns I witnessed.
* The regen effect on the hat is 1 hp every 3 seconds.
Edit: The information below is no longer valid. Enough time has passed to show that rainy weather in Zi'tah is related to the calendar, not moon cycles.
Begin looking for rainy weather in the 3rd Vanadiel month, and expect it to end in the 7th month.

These dates should predict the rainy weather moon cycles over the next several weeks. Times shown are the end of New Moon until the start of the following New Moon of that particular cycle.
I just want to say thank you very much for conducting all this research. Ive spent a very long time camping this NM, and havent come up with any conclusive evidence myself.
I believe I camped him the same days you were doing so, only I'm on Kujata. (interesting fact: the weather across all servers is linked, as well as moon phases. Whats happening in your world is also what is happening in mine.)
My difference is that I did not kill anything initially in 20 hours of consecutive camping. After i read your post (approx 16 hours after it was submitted) I waited until lightsday and rain weather, and killed all the placeholders. After this, I spent another 48 hours in the zone, and nothing popped. The placeholders were kept alive during this entire time.
Please, keep up the research. I will as well, and i'll start taking note of moon phase from here on out.
Thank you for your help, I'm glad someone else is trying to figure this silly thing out!
Turner, you're simply amazing. Thank you for all the hard work and research - you've renewed my drive to get this item.
One concern however. Your cycle for the "Available Spawns" seems to run 3 days, 8 hours a piece, with the exception of the December 28th-January 2nd spawn time, which runs 4 days, 8 hours. If you ran your calculations off this initial time, then all the following times are one day off (behind).
Further, the last time I camped this NM was from December 16th to December 20th. From your chart, the possible spawn time would have been:
Dec 15th, 7a.m. - Dec 18th, 3p.m.
I made sure no placeholders were killed during the time I wasn't AFK, but i did D/C on a couple occasions (while sleeping). To affirm you conclusions, the weather NPCs did predict rain for the entirety of the time I was there, though they often predicted thunder as well.
I'll post further results when I have them, and thank you again!
Gahhh, those times WERE off. >< But aside from that, I checked the weather forecast today and it's not raining as the moon cycles should have predicted. Either I screwed up my math, or it's more the calendar than the moon phase, or rainy weather is more random than I thought. >< Will update when I learn more.
/fume
(My original theory was that rainy weather was calendar related. Rainy weather was going on during the 4th-6th months both of the previous years, when I was camping. It just so happened to also coincide with the moon cycle, which made me change my mind. It's now the third month of the calendar, will wait and see if weather changes by the 5th month before throwing out the moon phase theory.)
i logged out at the spawn spot last night after not seeing noble mold up during some rain. when i logged back on today, it was standing there minding it's own business. it was double lightning weather when i logged on so i'm not sure what weather was around when the nm spawned.
ran over, claimed it and slowly beat it down. took about 5 minutes as a 69 rdm in xp gear (not lots of str or att stuff) so i did the enspell/haste/dagger routine.
it was also full moon lightsday when i killed it and i got the rain hat! \(^_^)/
Just an FYI - the weather checker in Jeuno isn't always right. The forecast for today was "Sunny", and yet there was both rain and lightning in Zitah today.
Just killed this. I got out of a party in Boyahda Tree and thought I'd check on it, although it was NOT Lightsday. I ran in and didn't see anything but a rng walking into a corner, apparently afk. I asked if she'd seen anything, but got no reply...when I turned around Noble Mold had popped behind me. The day had just changed over to Earthsday and it was raining.
As pld62 without full mp and 2hr, it was actually a pretty tough fight. Uses Waterga II, as the above poster said, and standard funguar attacks. I would have done better with a few antidotes.
after reading these posts, i decided to play around 10:00pmish cst on the lightsdays. First day i left everything, nothing poped, same as 2nd. 3rd RL day i killed everything on lightsday with rain weather. nothing repoped from it, on my way to a NM in boy. tree, it changed to rain weather on lightsday the 4th day, and he was up in the spot of a PH ( one of the ones closer to the cave) it did watergaII but thats about it. did 2 unresisted chaotic strikes on it ( 1800+ ) and it was done. did drop the rain hat ( yet no one will care when i wear it on my smn lol ) will be submitting pic to picko in the morning. and the e-9 f-10 is correct
I figured it out! You need to take the 3 or 4 Funguars in that area, and kill them in the cavern when its raining on lightsday. And you have to kill them all before they respawn and before the rain stops. Then he spawns in the cavern once the rain stops. Bwahaha. I'm such a great liar. I made that up. Someone please! Help me out!
So i wandered out to Zi'Tah not knowing what I was getting into. I jumped off my bird and just took a look at the area where Noble Mold is suposed to pop, and I went on killing everything in sight. Im a Drk so I was trying to skill up GS alittle bit, but couldnt on those mobs. While I was there, a Brd just popped outta nowhere and said "Hello!". I thought maybe that Brd was camping it and wanted to see if I would help out. In turn she was not camping it, she had just finished camping it with a friend of hers. Now i thought this would be a basic LL pop, drop, and go kinda NM, but its not. Requirment for Noble Mold to pop are as follows: Rainy weather, Lightsday, AND!!! AND!!! Dont kill the place holder(They are really not place holders but you get my point) for 3 GAME DAYS!!!! They much be alive for Noble Mold to pop. Ive killed him twice with no drop, and Im still going after him. I have a weird theroy about NMs and NM pops lol. It goes kinda like this. With LL, you kill off the placeholders and then LL spawns to protect her beloved Rock Lizzards lol. But with NMs like Noble Mold, hes like a King, or a Prince lol. "NOBLE!!" That dont want anything to be going wrong with the area that they are popping in. So I call these NMs Royal NMs... just a thing I do.
Well there you have it. the pop conditions for Noble Mold. Have fun camping, and if you need any help on Siren Server, I'll give it a shot with you.
I personally have no answers and I'm sorry for that, but everyone else who tries to post answers should only post something definite. How do you know all the placeholders were still there Maikeru? You could have just not seen any die before you got there and it popped. See, I think this placeholder thing is BS because the goal of a placeholder is to take place of the NM, then the NM will take ITS place of the spawn when a random placeholder is dead. Please, we need a pos, weather conditions, moon phase, day... and I guess how long you were waiting. I just hope I get lucky when I go do it...
Ok, ive been camping this thing for about 4 days on and off, and here is what i've taken note of.
Ive been here during rain, on all days of the week, and havent seen any pop. (Area: E-9/F-10, between the two trees near the conquest banner)
I waited an entire lightsday, while the weather changed from rain to thunder to normal three seperate times. I did NOT kill any placeholders, and there was no pop. I was the only one in the area at the time. This was during a Waning Crescent moon, im not certain if that may have any bearing on the pop conditions.
I was also there during rain with 2 other campers, on lightsday. One of them, a 75 BRD, was killing all the Funguar placeholders. Still, no Noble Mold pop. This was during a New Moon.
I did not know the last ToD for any of these, so I cant confirm a possibility of a 24 hour spawn, or another crazy timer.
I'm really struggling to figure this out. If any one can post something more than "w00t! I got it" that would be wonderful.
I killed it and got the drop. I zoned into Sanctuary with RNG sub and found it on Widescan. It was during rainy weather. No placeholders were killed (I'm very sure no one was in the area, I was searching the area before while I was chocoing over).
Any chance you remember the <pos>? also, what was your main job at the time? I dont think i'd have much trouble killing it as a 70BLM, but i dont wanna go out there and camp the silly thing only to end up dead next to some evil mushroom ^^
I'm thinking this NM may be like the one in Raungement Pass named Taisaijin or something. People don't know the pop requirements for it either BUT occurding to mysterytour (i think it was mysterytour), in order for Taisaijin (and possibly even noble mold and a few other NMs we havnt really figured out), you must leave the placeholders alive for 24 rl hours or 72 rl hours. If you even kill one or someone else does, the timer starts over.
