noble mold
# May 26 2011 at 12:42 PM Rating: Decent
Left my character at the spawn area (E-9) for about sixteen hours checking in about every half hour or so. Was about to throw in the towel when the myxocymete right next to me turns into noble mold right before my eyes, 1/1 on hat. How lucky!

pop time was approximately 5/27/1124, Watersday, 19:27 (62%) waning single water element

I think were the pop times, and it poped twice in 1 cycle, even though there was 2 maintenances.

[Edit]

Just got mine today. 4/30/1072 - Darkness Day

Katapan on Ramah server intentionally killed the one placeholder and ran off.
Thats frustrating but what can you do besides report him.

In this, one can only guess when the next pop will be if there is one.

Change to Noble

In response to the previous post;

Yes - one of the two placeholders will despawn completely and Noble Mold will appear a few seconds later.
seen it change?

has anyone physically SEEN this mob change to noble mold?

almost every sory mentions a DC and he's been up, or finding it on wide scan and running over.

wonder if a watched pot will boil so to speak.
NM Advice
# Apr 22 2008 at 5:53 PM Rating: Decent
I have been recieving private messages requesting advice on this NM, so I have decided to post this advice here.

I would recommend camping with a high level job - the undead that spawn near the NMs spawn point con easy prey to a level 64. I am unsure as to what level aggro could be avoided at.

I recommend camping from the end of month 3 to the beginning of month 7 (vana'diel time). If you bring a high enough job, you can leave your char. logged in and track his death via the log if you need to go afk. He has been confirmed to spawn more than once during the window, and this would give you a better idea of his next possible spawn time.

Tell people to leave the PHs alone. It is unconfirmed if disturbing them resets the spawn timer, but when I camped someone attacked one, but stopped when I asked and did not kill it. I was bst at the time, so I charmed and left the funguar he attacked to remove hate from him and return it to passive status. Noble Mold spawned about 10-12 hours after this event happened.

Lastly, have patience! I camped for about 30 hours when he dropped the Rain Hat for me. There were multiple people camping, but they slowly left or logged out. You lose the ability to tell last ToD if you leave the immediate area where he spawns. When this NM spawned, no one was there but me and my buddy, so we were the only ones who knew it had spawned. Patience is a virtue on this guy. Also, as the drop rate is not 100% it could take multiple attempts to get the rain hat.

Good luck camping!

5/7 Watersday 16:00ish Vana time, single water element, 20ish Waning Moon. This was my first camp of it. Was there no longer than 30 minutes as I watched Noble Mold form. I stayed up alot longer than I should have but being just me there with another that was AFK, I was waiting for Watersday to be over with before I went to bed for hopefully a shot at ToD. Something just told me... Watersday, lots of rain forcasted, 5/7 date, I better listen to my gut and stay. 1/1 on hat but my biggest accomplishment in my mind is getting this NM, not the drop.
Popped today

Killed today.
Did a quick logout of about 5 minutes cause there was router issues.
Came back to find him up and unclaimed, quickly claimed and killed with no drop...

popped 4/17/1038 Vanadiel time
watersday 9:30
Rain weather (switched to double thunder shortly after)

Camping now til the end of month 6. wil inform if there are any more pops (can anyone confirm if it can pop more than once in a month 4-6 cycle? As in actually having seen both pops.)

oh well.. hoping for rain hat next time.. want it just cause it's so rare to see. <.<

EDIT: I have now confirmed it can pop twice or more in one month 4-6 period.
killed it again just now.

Yeah! 1/1. Easy 7 min fight for my 66RDM/33BLM. The only real thing that hurt was its Spore attack which inflicted a pretty annoying paralyze. Seems I got quite lucky with this NM, only camped it for about 5 hours before it poped. /clock at pop time was:

Vana'diel: 28/4/1038, Lightningday, 22.10
Last Quater Moon (43%)
Earth: 3 Jan '08, 4:24pm (+12GMT)

Couple things of note:
1. I Had 1 Lost Soul mob aggro me (Full HP, not moving/resting/fighting)so the mimimum level for camping this might be 67 to avoid that slim chance of aggro from the highest level Lost Souls.

2. Noble Mold IS Drain/Aspirable, although it seems to have a high resistance to dark magic (My best Drain was 9hp, Best Aspir was 33mp -.-)

Lastly a big thanks to all those who have done all the detective work for this NM, made it a lot eaiser to find the best time to camp Noble Mold =D

Wow did I get lucky today. Went shopping with the wife while leaving my character on follow and wide scan locked. Got home 5 hours later, turn on the tv and I'm running into a wall. Quickly do a widescan and see one of the rarest NM in the game -- Noble Mold.
Of course in complete panic that he may despawn or may get claimed from underneath me I flee to him and begin the slaughter. Another shroom linked but as 75 thf/bst there wasn't really anything to worry about. Didn't even think to try to charm the link till later, but oh well.
Long story short, Noble Mold died, Rain Hat dropped. 1/1 (oh thank god)

I looked back in the chat log and found that my follow had just cancelled moments before arriving back home. LS leader was putting together parties for Limbus run when my follow cancelled, and was still sorting players when I claimed. Couldn't have been up for more than 2-3 minutes when I came home, so spawn conditions were: Lightsday, Single rain (may have been double at spawn time, not 100% sure), 5/7/1037 game date, 81% waning gibbous.
Having a great two weeks now! Got Vilma's Ring 1/4, Jelly Ring 1/1, and now Rain Hat 1/1 ^^!

Im currently in my 25th hour of camping--no one has touched any funguars down on this end, and still no Noble Mold. This spawn time can definitely be longer than 18-24 hours.

Info on wiki's site is correct on hunting this nm. Got claim and drop on 5/27/1034. He's a rare pop. Only go for him if you got the time.

I'll say that I can't think of another NM rarer than this one. After spending months 4-6 in the spawn location, having it rain for full days at a time, I never saw a trace of this NM. I think that, even though it's not a lotto pop this is in the best sense of the word a lotto monster.

If you check on it and it's not there, that's too bad, don't invest much more time in it or you'll be waiting for days (RL) at a time for it.

1/2 On this Hat finally. To make the time pass you can sub RNG and leave the last fungaur on widescan while you farm. Did that for a couple hours until the gilsellers took over. So I went back to staring at the fungus, Got up for a smoke, came back to Noble Mold.

I think the date was 5/2/1023 and it was earthsday, around 90% moon phase on the way down. He killed me the first time but that was because I linked the other funguar there. Came back 5 minutes later with the same job 65 THF/RNG and beat on him without the link and got my hat. GL to all those after this. Next up, a Shaman's Cloak(shouldn't be to hard) and a Zordenite Ring(hard).

Can I beat this as RDM 66? I do not have NIN sub. I can only sub BLM or WHM (or BRD but I doubt that's useful).

yeah, it's really easy, you'll have protect, shell, stoneskin, and all that so you shouldn't be hurt much, silent gas might suck for you but you should still be ok with decent weapon skills for damage.

april showers bring may flowers (or in this case mold).

I'd be willing to bet that it isnt a set amount of time the PH has to be up but a certain amount of rain icons or a set amount of time during rain weather that the PH has to be up.

I was thinking the same thing!

Story: Spawned today 5/3/1022, Watersday, 52% Waxing, Single water(I think). Not sure on exact time cause I went to register for school. Was coming back to the game almost certain I was dead since the Lost Souls still aggro my 66 THF. Went as THF/RNG to test Turnerbrowns Widescan info. I had the last fungar on Auto-track and the other fungar on Auto-lock, when I came back I was still on Auto-lock but tracking was off, and there he was. I went to work on him without any boltz or shadows. He missed alot but since he's level 50 I guess that's expected since my Eva is 250+ and his spells didn't do more than 50 damage to me. Only thing that hurt was his Silent gas move for 120 damage. At the end of the battle I had around 300 HP left and only 20 exp. :(

Almost makes you want to cry. 16 hours camping and all I get is 20 exp. Might try again when I wake up {yawn} good luck every.

Just got my Rain Hat 1/3

I'm sorry I don't have exact times for the data nerds. However, I can say that all my sightings (5, twice came back from afk to see someone else killing it) were in the 5th month, ranging from 5/4 to 5/24

I'm beginning to suspect Noble Mold can spawn multiple times per rainy cycle, can anyone confirm multiple sightings?

Wow, sand in sensitive places much? For the record, I figured out the spawn condition on this NM on my own before info was up tyvm. Been camping since I first heard rumors of this mob.
Next time someone posts about getting this drop, maybe you could congratulate them for the hard work, instead of assuming they are ingrates that leeched of the info you posted on this thread.

If I was concerned about people "leeching" I wouldn't bother to post.
I didn't take your post as a slap against me personally, but for everyone who posts something useful that others can build on. If you figured it out on your own, that's great, but apparently you didn't see fit to share it. At least not here.

Without Purely and others posting their experiences, there would've been much more work involved in figuring this one out. I stand by my edit.
I assume 56 thf would be destroyed?

I think you'll be fine, but I would try soloing a few funguars first to get an idea what to expect. Bring antidotes for sure. The main issue you're going to have is the other things that like to spawn in that area (undead, bombs, etc..)potentially aggroing you while you camp/fight.

Earth: Feb 7 2007 8:12:am(ish)

Lightning weather when I logged in to a BLM75/WHM37 killing him. A few seconds earlier he probably would have been mine, as this mage killed him then ran off without responding to me, was probably just passing through and didn't even know what the rain hat was :(

I just missed his pop, went to help my girlfriend with something and came back he JUST popped. I had walked away for like, 10 seconds haha.

But for you data nerds, as always:

4/29/1015 lightsday just before 9:00 first quarter moon 43%

earth: feb 5 2007 6:00pm rain weather is when he popped, it went away and he did NOT depsawn (although he was engaged)

From my experience, Noble Mold really loves to pop during the month of May. I have personally seen him in June also, but rarely. Coincidentally, all three times I have claimed him was exactly on 5/21 Vana'diel time, of course. I have also seen him twice on 5/11 but didn't get claim. Two times it was single rain, and the other was single lightning but it was still raining, Im thinking it popped from rain and stayed spawned while it changed to lightning.

I have gotten a Rain Hat already, but I would like to show up on 5/21 again just to see if its just a mere coincidence.

Saw this guy a year ago when I first met most of my LS members. They were helping me with SAM starter quest when I spotted him while I was wondering around. We should have killed him but they weren't sure of the level and decided to stay away, as if 2 70+ RDMs couldn't take it. I'm a level 60 THF now, I think I'm going to give this a shot soon. This would go great with my WHM, SMN, RDM, and BLM which are all levels 50-55 now. Wish we would have killed him long ago. ><

Spawned while I was in exp party in Caedavra Mire. Linkshell BST friend saw it and told me. I got there in under 5 minutes and he killed it when I was in zone because someone else saw it too.... No drop.

But at least I know he exists! :)

(turned out the other person there was a friend of mine too hah)

Spawn conditions for you data nerds:

5-6-1007 - Lightningsday about 18:00 hours. I'm fairly certain it was double lighning weather when we killed it, but I forgot to write that part down.

0/3 on this, all 3 kills with thf sub. I've seen it spawn in month 4 and 5 only, didn't pop in 6th last time. The spawn window seems infinite, last cycle it took about 28-30 hours or so to repop after being killed once, with neither of the funguars being touched(left my guy on afk there for a long time with no filters).
