Not sure about the lessers, but as noted the Colibri's mimic. Now here's what I've seen them mimic basically every spell cast on it apart from Cure etc. But here's where the fun starts, they store the spells. Try Silencing them then cast a few spells. Once unsilenced it will start spitting them back at you. Last night my friends were trying to kill me (NIN), by casting Diaga then other stuff onto it while I had hate. They were rather fun to try and tank, cause you couldn't Ninjutsu them without shadows or you would cop it back. It only landed paralyze once (/huzzah).
I'm not sure about the lesser colibris, but the regular colibris are mimickers. Any vocal offensive spell that lands on them, they cast it right back on you. This holds true for white magic, black magic, and bard songs. Don't know about Ninjitsu though.
Their mimicking ability seems to go beyond simply casting spells back at you. I've been experimenting with it, but I haven't learned anything concrete.
They only seem to mimic spells that deal damage to them. The only spells I could make them return were Dia and Banish. (Bst/Whm by the way)
After mimicking a spell, you'll notice their mouth will stay open for some time. With their mouths closed, colibri seem to move at Flee's speed, but with their mouths open their pace seems slowed to a crawl. I think the duration of this effect depends on how much mp the spell cost. Dia seemed to last a short while, while Banish II tended to stay on a bit longer.
Once hit by the spell, they'll only be able to cast it back on the person who cast the spell. This made things a little odd when I cast Banish on one of the birds and charmed it before it could finish casting back. When I sent it to attack, it refused to make any new actions.
I'm not sure, but I'm willing to bet they receive other penalties while in this mode.
note: I've been messing with them, and I think I was wrong about the run speed thing, and they can cast spells on people other than the one casting on them.
snatch morsel isn't a dispel, it steals your food effect and gives it to the colibri, so it's like one of the promie bosses in that regard, also, their level range is somewhere between 63-65, not sure on the max level, but at 63 some of them check even match to me
They con DC-- to me as Lv66 Dragoon, and so I've been soloing them for awhile. I've seen them use three different skills: Feather Tickle, Pecking Fury, and Snatch Morsel. Feather Tickle resets your TP to 0 and Pecking Fury just does single target damage. I have no clue what Snatch Morsel does, as whenever it uses it, it just says "No effect on Takari." =\ And so far gotten Wind crystals, Colibri feathers, and Colibri beaks for drops.
And yes, they are weak to peircing. Penta Thrust simply owns these things. =3
Pecking fury sucks... it's a 4 hit attack that will wipe :Ni off a ninja with little to no effort. :Ichi reduces the damage taken if you have all 3 shadows, but slow and para work charms on these. EP @75nin have solod countless #s while LFP. There is a good spot in bhaflau thickets that has about 7-8 of these with no aggro day or night. Not sure of the <pos> though =/
Snatch morsel steals your food effect. So, if you're tank or plan on having hate at all, don't use any food against these. Been duoing T's and VT's for quite awhile with a friend. Widely overcamped in that first open area of the Thickets.
I started soloing them at 61, so you'd have a good chance, just grab the refresh bonus from sanction, it helps a lot, I can get up to chain 3s soloing with it @ 63 now
Hey, these con DC++ to me, a lvl 69 rdm. Ive been able to solo these with little to no difficulty. They Are aspirable and are susceptable to drain ^^ Paralyze works wonders too. Dont bother Blinding these guys, they have some rather high accuracy. Ive been getting Feathers, Beaks, Wind crystals, and kindred seals and Beastmen seals. One more thing, they dont like lightning, Enthunder was my best additional affect damage.
It says adamantoise because it is most likely the default family on the family list when they enter mob information. They are most likely in alphabetical order, and this is AD, so its most likely at the top.
These guys checked T to T++ at lvl 62. Don't try to solo these, Red Mages, until about 63 or 64. They're too damn quick to hit at a steady rate before they start checking EM, even with Gravity.
