Quote:
The Pezhetairoi (Greek πεζÎταιÏοι) were the backbone of the Macedonian army. They were Foot Companions (in Greek the "Pezos" means foot warrior, infantryman, and the "Hetairos" is the companion or friend). They wore linen leather armour and Thracian-style bronze helmet, and armed with sarissa, short sword and argive shield. The Pezhetairoi were the Macedonian minor nobility. The poorer Pezhetairoi called Pezoi (singular Pezos), or Infantrymen.
