Me and one other linkshell member killed both the dragon and the seeker before my hundred fists wore off. Actual battle time was right at about a minute, but with the cutscenes our total time was 3 min. 20 seconds, which still set the record on our server.
Just wanted to say that I also defeated this dragon with 2 other LS members:
I was a Lvl 22 MNK/WAR, the other 2 were a level 22 BLM/WHM, and a 22 WHM/BLM.
we beat this guy pretty easily.
To start the BLM elemental seal +SLEEP the dragon, and then cast some spells on the eye before it got magic barrier up. Before that happened though, the eye bound me and so I was out of action for about 5-10 seconds. After Bind wore off, I ran in, provoked the eye, beat it down with the help of the whm, who silenced it.
The dragon had woken up by this time and he was chasing the blm around..the blm ran around the enclosed area and since the dragon was very slow, it had trouble catching up.
After the eye went down, I used my dodge ability and then hundred fisted the dragon. Meanwhile the blm was doing massive damage to the dragon with spells.
All in all, not too bad.

Does it spawn by time or do you use beastman seals?
Good question.
My hubby and I will find out tonight; we're going to try to get in w/out the orb since we're doing the sandy mission to get rank 3, (Journey Abroad).
Being a 21 WHM/BLM and a 21 WAR/MNK, we'll need lotsa luck. It would probably be best for us to wait until we're lvl 25...hmm. Wonder if we can duo it then?

Can I defeat it at lv.13? I'm a warrior and was wondering if I could do it with some high level people. I don't really care about the exp, I just wanna finish the mission.
No there is no level limit.
I went in with a 19 galka war who tanked it.
Anyways i would still not suggest to do it at 13. U will prolly not survive the trip there and at your level 1 spell of the eye or a two/three attacks of the dragon will kill u.
Level up first, its not like rank3 is that important (rank 5 is, but try that at 35+)

You have to be 25 to get the mission I believe.

I did this with a 25 monk and 25 whm (me). The monk used 2h and destroyed the dragon while I silenced the eye. Dragon died quick then the eye fell shortly afterwards.
me being a whm i didnt have to worry bout finding a healer. i took 2 rdm and a theif (because i was getting kazham keys same trip) and we did fine at all lvl 25 cap. in fact i think one of the rdm was lvl 24. at any rate it was a cynch. i healed and they went after the seeker first and the dragon barely cared cuz we killed it so fast, then the dragon and due to cure 2 i was able to do an ample job of healing everyone while the reds nuked and enfeebled during the melee. one thing to know... get a whm with silence and the -na's it sped things up real nice because the 2 mobs only casted a couple times opposed to nasty curses and such. all i can say is this mission is built to be done at 20+... mnaybe earlier. its possible to maybe do it at lvl 10 even but you wont be doing much help lol. basically chocobos are a great advantage so is teleport spells. good luck to yall hope this helped

First time I fought this I went in with a rather disfunctional party. Our healer had only cure, the thing took me down to about 45HP where I backed out of the fight untill WHM healed me. I think I did use the 2 hours in it. After that I've helped killing it, attacking the Seeker is the best bet.

Killed this bad boy 39 times now helping people with rank 3. Fastest Kill Time: 2min 2 sec

Me and my PT killed this dragon and the seeker both in less then 10mins. We did it will 1 whm, 1 blm and 1 rdm and 1 thief. It was way more simple then I expected it to be. Too easy I think. I want to kill the other dragons now just to see if they are just as simple...lol

If you kill the Seeker first the battle it ridiculously easy. The Seeker cast Area Effects which do more damage then most of the Dragons attacks. My parties (I'v killed it 6 time so far) just ignored the dragon untill the seeker was dead. No one has died, and no one has had to use their two hours (even when doing it with 4 people; 2WHM, 1 MNK/WAR, 1 WAR/THF).
Its a really fun battle, I actually wish it was Harder

what is the lvl cap on this beast
My party (3 LVL 25's WAR,BLKM,WHTM) were able to defeat the eye and the dragon. With an able party and 2hr's this is not a impossible battle with 3 people.

great strategy we used, we sleeped the dragon long enough for us to take out the seeker....worked twice so far doing it so try it out.

It seems that you also have to defeat the Seeker to get the OK on the mission. Recommended strategy is for someone to tank the dragon, a whm healing the tank while 2 others (preferably melee) attack the seeker. Also it seems that spells do jack to the seeker. Just a heads up =)

Just a quick message looking to get their rank 3 - good idea to go to Windurst first and take the dragon there rather than go to Sand' Oria. It seems that the dragon here is less popular. I have been at this one for almost a month and can't find a party to take this one on!

If you got Black Mages , Just Elemenatal Seal+ Sleep the dragom. Then Head Up and kill the Seeker, it will be very easy. Done it with 2 WAR +1 BLM + 1WHM.

I honestly think the Black Dragon is a joke. We went in with 2 lvl25 drgs, me (capped 25 drk) and a 25 bkm and we waisted the seker, and dragon in just minutes I mean common give us a challange.
