From wiki.ffxiclopedia: "Casts Tier IV single target Black Magic, Tier III -ga Black Magic, Tier I Ancient Magic, Breakga, Graviga, Sleep(-ga II), Death and Blaze Spikes"
... And these are only normal mobs? <.<;; Dynamis-Mamook [Mega Boss] [Found it!] :O
Makes sense they'd put these in so that you'd have to use the Viscous Liquid... I remember when they implemented that, and I was just like "Feh? I'm a Summoner/(White Mage). I can just sneak around..."
Guess not anymore. But atleast it's still not impossible to get there without fighting. Just put stoneskin up before you put the liquid on- if you get to the spiders with the liquid chewing at your stoneskin and health, it'll have only taken maybe 100-200 HP, which isn't bad at all.
Used Sneak and Invis and attempted to avoid fighting these while taking a friend to the Mamool Ja Staging Point- no such luck. They hear through Sneak, although their aggro range seems pretty short compared to other sound-aggro mobs.
As a 75BLM/WHM, I was able to sleep/nuke them pretty effectively, but they have an incredibly high magic defense which cuts spell damage by almost 40% (not a buff- RDM I was with attempted to Dispel, didn't have anything up...it's just natural). Bind and Silence stick easily but don't stay on for long, but Sleep and Aspir are very effective.
I fought three while I was in Mamook, and saw them cast only Blaze Spikes, Burn, Frost, Thunder IV, Sleepga II, and Flare. The actual nukes were very rare, it seemed very concerned with sticking Burn. When they drop below about 70% HP, they attempt to melee, like most BLM-type mobs, and they hit VERY hard and VERY fast. Still, with Stoneskin/Blink and a quick Sleep macro, they weren't really a problem.
Didn't get a little frog hat, but we did get a couple Kindred Seals. If you haven't seen one of these die, check it out- it's hilarious. Their hat falls off, they get a really surprised look on their face, and they tip over backwards.
Are you sure they are True-Hearing and not True-Sight...
First time I attempted my Staging Point run, I discovered that they are definitely true-something. However, the trick to get past them is to use the ??? that have the curious liquid, which changes you into a Beastman for a bit (with a very heavy DoT poison). I still had sneak up for the fish, but I'm relatively sure it dropped while I was still running around up top and went past at least one of these mobs.
Either way... hate these little froggies. First one that nearly got me opened with a Thunder IV. Enough time to warp out at least... ><
Are you sure they are True-Hearing and not True-Sight...
Yeah, I'm sure. The RDM and I took Sneak/Invis down, and reapplied right before running by these to test them. I waited till it moved and was looking away before running behind it. It didn't aggro until I was REALLY close to it, but it was definitely not looking at me because it whipped around to start casting.
The trick with the Viscous Liquid makes sense...wish we had thought to try that. -_-;
