Solod this as RDM/NIN earlier today. Both Phanduron and Drexerion were up, so safely pulling phanduron was a little tricky.

Basically, after buffing up, I threw gravity at Drexerion from afar. This linked Phanduron (they tend to stick close together all the time..), which caused him to start casting something (blizzaga 3). I back out of the room a bit, reapply sneak, and start running back. I ran all the way to the ronfaure zone, which is quite a run away. To make things longer, Phanduron would frequently stop to cast something, though I was always too far to get hit with it (often times I was too far to even see what he was casting!), which made the run excessively longer than it had to be (about 10-15 minutes), but made the run all the easier. If sneak was to wear off, I could safely recast it as long as I keep my distance from him. Also, despite never actually performing a specific action on him, I never lost hate on Phanduron; he chased me the whole time. I usually ran just out of targeting range when he stopped to cast a spell, but maybe he would have still chased me if I ran to the zone without stopping.

I never saw Drexerion on my run to the zone, so it's possible I lost hate, but just to be safe, I let Phanduron catch up to me a bit and zoned. The small hallways with werebats near the zone is a good place to kite it; no aggro and there's a decent amount of running space. You'd have to be careful of blood aggro, though. I myself melee'd him at the zone. It's a lot safer, IMO, since you can simply throw a DoT on him and zone for a little bit if things get a bit out of hand.

As for the actual fight, he isn't terribly difficult, but he can be very dangerous. His regular swings take longer than that of a normal monster (each swing had a delay about the same as a great sword), so with slow II his swings were very slow, and keeping utsusemi up was no problem. His regular hits hit for about 70-80 damage from what I saw. The hardest part, though, is his black magic (and even worse, manafont). With a hefty amount of MND (about 100 total) his tier 3 -gas only did around 300-400 damage, with the somewhat frequent resist (wouldn't even break through a weakened stoneskin) and the rare unresist (probably 600+ damage; would eat through a fresh stoneskin). He casts a spell every 20-30 seconds or so, and doesnt seem stunnable (I tried stunning firaga 3 with flat blade, but stun didn't go off. I only once, so maybe he lucked out).

This monster isn't as unintelligent as you'd think. At one point in the fight, he landed a sleep I on me, and followed it immediately with manafont, which he followed up with a tier 3 -ga. He also tends to cast one or two weaker nukes or spells (such as blind) before throwing another -ga at you while manafont is up. Due to this, he only got off about 4 tier 3 -gas, which isn't too bad, though I was still ready to DoT it and zone until manafont wore off.

Also, a tip to others who are going after this NM (again, that is); if you did not kill Drexerion with Phanduron, wait at least 12 hours (preferably 24 hours or a bit more, depending on how inconvenient Phanduron's ToD is for your schedule), then go back and kill Drexerion. This will save you the trouble of having to zone Phanduron again (though taking him to the zone makes the fight that much easier if sh*t happens, so it's really up to you).

Finally, good luck to everyone! Currently 0/1 :|

Killed both Phanduron and Drexerion a few minutes before emergency maintainance. Not terribly difficult if you fight them one at a time, with a RDM/NIN and a WHM/BST (me). Phanduron is definitely the tougher of the two, using tier 3 ga spells, but overall still not bad.
As has been stated, these can be Carby/Pet pulled, which worked well for us. I was prepared to kite one using bats and slimes but didn't have to worry about it. I just helped with a bit of DoT using pet bats that were in the hallway we were fighting in, keeping buffs up on the RDM when needed for Phanduron. For Drexerion I joined in killing once the RDM had hate fixed on him, again keeping Haste and Regen on him in case he broke Stoneskin.

No drops, but got about 60 exp for both, and had some fun in the process.

I just duo'ed this and the other shadow at the same time. Me, RDM/NIN, and WHM/NIN, both 75. They are no joke with the two at once. I pulled with Para, they linked, dragged them into the nearby hall where there were only bats, and got them split after a little effort. We let the RNG keep shooting at me, and proceeded on the BLM. Could not Silence, could not Stun with Fast Blade. Did have Shell 5 up, so his -gas weren't too bad, got Sleepga II'd early which didn't help. After about 10 minutes of him, we killed, but he dropped the WHM as he died. Did drop Shadow Mask, no Ascalon :(

RNG next. WHM RR'ed, but was weak, so I DOT'ed, and just kept Utsu up. I'd run in and melee a couple of hits, when shadows dropped, I'd go back out and let him shoot. WHM got right, goes in to melee, I start heading in, he had been DOT to 80%, a shot drops my shadows, a hit drops SS, and *bang* EES for 1200, kills me. Anyways, long story short, he used the same strat, I got back up (rest-aggroed bats while weak, ugh, had to kill 2 EPs while weakened and no MP), and we finished him off.

These two are not the easiest NMs when paired. I could have solo'ed RNG on my RDM, BLM might have been a lot harder. I imagine a mage + any melee /nin with decent evade might have an easier time of it. These hit pretty hard, I'd say over 100 with Phalanx up, so SS didn't last long when shadows were down.

How did you manage that? cause I have close to 50% haste with gear and march*2 and still failed horribly. He is immune to Lullaby and Flat Blade @300% TP didn't stun any of his spells. He also hits way to consistant to be able to evade sfutt. I even tried him with full evasiongear and double mambo. Failed even worse.

my gear setup:

gear shown first is my evasion gear setup and other is haste setup

Joyeuse/Garuda's Dagger (seems to be immune to silence anyway since even with 50 swings on Windday Garuda's Dagger didn't proc once.)
Optical Hat/W.Turban
Scorpion Harness+1/Sha'Ir Manteel
Chiv.Chain
Suppanomimi/Ethereal Earring for the +5 evasion
Bard's Cuffs+1/Dusk Gloves
Sniper's Ring/Rajas Ring
Amemet Mantle+1
Swift Belt/Survival Belt
Byakko's Haidate
Bard's Slippers for the +HP/Parrying/Dusk Leggings+1

And even with this gear I was unable to get him below 85%.

So before I see someone solo this NM as BRD/NIN I call BS on that statment that you solod him as BRD/NIN.

Been camping this guy intermittenly for the last few days.

The first time I went down there he was up with Drexerion, we killed him with a pt of 75pld, 75blm, 75rng, 74rng, 75 brd, 70drk (me), no drop. Since then i've been checking down there twice a day minimum and have not seen them repop again, or anyone down there who could have killed them. On my most recent trip I saw a paladin standing at the entrance of the zone, and asked him if he was going to camp Phanduron, to which he said no, he was going after Bloodsucker, the leech in the lower levels, and that they would not spawn till the next RL day, since they are on the same timer as bloodsucker.

Now, this is my problem...does this mean that they are both on 72hr timers from the point of their death, or does only one of them spawn every 72hrs like Argus and that other leech in Shakriami? It's been way past 72hrs and no NM to be seen.
Sigh...

Yeah, so, we flattened these two today with the following setup:

NIN72/WHM, RDM75/NIN, RDM75/BLM, PLD68/WAR, BLM75/WHM

Took some time but it was not too difficult. PLD68 got one-shot by EES though.

Both dropped nothing. Go figure.

When i went to do the Asuran Fists NM here we decided to see if these two were up. THey were. Smn did the sneak/carby pull thing, they went down quick, only one death (and over zealous WAR trying to see how high he could do a Rampage) both dropped a Shadow Mask and crystal. I don't remember exact pt, but was me 71mnk/war, another 71mnk/war, 75war/nin, 75pld/nin a smn and uhhh a coupld whm's or something. Ya, they were pretty fun.

He's blm, uses manafont and casts -ga spells. Equip doesn't really have anything to do with monster's jobs.

Soloed this guy twice as 75BST/WHM and never got a drop. The first time I called a PLD buddy of mine over to get the drop if it happened but the second time I didn't bother.
He has pretty low hitpoints and evasion it took about 6-7 bloodsuckers to take him down. The annoying thing about him was he aspired me everytime I released my pets and I wouldn't have MP to sneak around the bloodsuckers. It made the fight a little more interesting but I still came out on top.

Just solo'd this guy as SMN/WHM, I can confirm that a smn pull does work to avoid fighting both of them at once. I just kept sneak on and headed towards the entrance of bostanieux after i pulled him, stopping plenty out of range of him to wait for carby to die and then recasting, followed by more running. By the time i got him near the entrance (i did this because the lowest lvl mobs are there, for aggro reasons) he was around 50% hp, so i started doing some BPs to speed things up and hit him with a dia...bad idea, as this gave me more hate than i wanted, and he would randomly stop fighting carby and come chasing after me ; ;.

All in all though not too bad a fight, just have to be careful to keep sneak up and not catch any other aggro (and don't fall in any trap doors). I ate one firaga 3 and one thundaga 3, just from bad luck and timing while i was running back and forth to recast carby. He also casted sleep 2 on me...thankfully my blink ate it. Took about 30-45 mins, and for all my hard work i got a dark crystal and 83 exp >.< Didn't kill his friend as i was too tired after that long fight, but if he's still there tommorrow he's going down too :D

Finally got my jelly ring 9 lvls too late with 75 rdm, me (72 pld), and 71 nin. Walked around a bit to see what's up and saw these two fellows. Unfortunately, we dind't have anyone with smn main or sub, but we decided to try them anyway. Of course they linked. After about 1-2 mins we got one of them to 3/4 health or so before we escaped. We all almost died. 75 Rdm couldn't sleep or silence any of them so they were both attacking us. They're probably based on dark and would need a brd to sleep them. Probably would have been able to take them 1 by 1, but would have taken close to 10 mins per kill with our set-up. Anyway, lesson learned. You need to carby pull one, and to be safe have a full party 70+. They sure do hit hard and like cast lvl IV spells. I will come back later with more peeps. I must have that sword.

Pop time
# Dec 13 2004 at 4:24 AM Rating: Decent
Two things about these NMs:

1) The drops are not guaranteed :(. I killed both of them, and the most we got out of them were dark crystals.

2) The pop info is incorrect on them. They are listed as a 60-72 hr. pop time, but I believe it is even longer. I just checked on them after their supposed max pop time, and they still are not up. I've also been pysically checking/scanning the zone throughout the day, and no group large enough to defeat them has been in there.

As was said before, they're actually pretty easy. Took a party of 75s down there, and we ate all the -ga spells from his 2hr (manafont) with no problem, they did little damage for the mostpart. His brother was even easier than he was. Also, they can be separated by using carbuncle to pull, so bring a smn friend/friend with smn sub and this is a really easy fight :). Someday I will have Ascalon.... >.<;

it's an easy fight with bar-spells vs this mage.

you can't stun when it's using manafont (2 hour). Why is this blm monster type holding two handed great sword. the blm must have that weapon opened along with scyth.

You see Blizzaga 3 spell, drop barblizzard and pray that it lands before the spell does dmg.

good luck,

Well both of his drops are Rare/Ex, so it's not because his items are worth much from a monetary standpoint.

This guy is HARD, we carby-pulled only him with a 73 PLD and some 65-69 mages, and barely got him to half HP before we ran. He casts III, IV and III -ga spells and CAN'T be interrupted, I tried and Shield Bash failed to work also.

Stun resisted, Silence resisted, Shock resisted, Frost (WTF?) landed, and the RDM managed to land Slow somehow, but EVERY spell of mine doing damage, even fire, was resisted to some extent. Burst as part of a Fragmentation SC did 264 dmg for a 1/4 resist and another BLM got a half resist, and I even had out my Thunder Staff.

Melee claim they did 75% normal damage to him, or full damage, but I was busy trying to figure out how to stop Aero IV and Water IV from hitting the PLD.

He does also do D Death, which was the least of our problems, Aeroga III did about 250 to all of us, which brought us to yellow health, which caused a ghost to aggro, which led to Chainspell + Escape, which led to us regrouping.

Recommended party setup: 70 x 9 or 75 x 6

This guy does not mess around.
