Solo'able as a (Elvaan)75NIN/37DRK. When you Enter Garliage Citadel you need to examine a total of 7 "???" to get Chandelier to spawn. Chandelier spawns ont he 7th one you examine, right after the text "...maybe you should step back..."

Recommendations:
-Sword in the mainhand for WS "Flat Blade" use this as a back up Stun.

-Buff up your mana to be atleast 150 for 5 casts of Stun.

-Concentrate on blinking perfectly. This mob hits hard. Hit me twice and brought me down to 600/1200 health. I thought it would be okay to let him hit me while i waited 2 for Ni.

-Attack Food. You want to bring him down faster while minimizing its TP build.

-Restrict yourself to casting/job ability'ing between your own attacks. The only way this mob is gaining TP is by your hits to it. Taking this precaution will minimize the chance of it poping Self-Destruct while your in the middle of performing an action.

-Recommend that you keep Blind, Slow and Paraylze up at all times. When i fought this mob, Paraylze seemed to have proc'ed often and stuck fairly well. Only needed to cast Jubaku three times for a total of 21 "The Chandelier is paralyzed."

-Start this fight at "nightime" ninja armor bonuses are in effect if you are using any pieces for this fight.

Precautions:
-Take note of the mobs around you and how they aggro and detect.

-When this mob spawns you have about 2-4seconds to run away from the the "???" before it reacts to you. If you manage to clear a good distance, the bomb will spawn idle and unaggressive until you attack or run by its line of sight. Run up and start the fight with a melee hit with its back turned towards you. It will start the fight with "Self-Destruct." you counter by using WS:Flat Blade or Stun.

-Chandelier has Double-Attack.

-Hits a 75Nin for about 300 damage.

-Don't forget your warp club!

Improvise to ensure your victory.

Hello all,

Decided to try this guy as a duo. 75 BST/NIN and 75 PLD/NIN. Got to the NM spawn area and built 100% tp on the nearby skeletons. PLD used the prism powder trick. Right after the cutscene, he hit his powder macro and the bomb wasn t able to see him. I sent CC in first to get initial hate. He was hitting CC for 250 average with full Beast Affinity. Surprisingly CC didn t go down too quick. She s got a ton of HP.

Well after he Berserked for the first time, I let loose a Rampage and tanked for a little bit to give CC a break. After I couldn t keep shadows up anymore, I hit Snarl. By this point he was nearing death. CC died and I called another (which I didn t need to anyway). PLD used Vorpal Blade and I let loose another Rampage which was overkill.

He didn t attempt to self-destruct once. I had Feral Howl waiting in case he did. We also made sure one of us had 100% tp at all times.

I soloed this NM for my brother as 75 SMN carby kite style. Takes a while but just run it back up to that square area behind gate 1 and just keep running around the outside of the square and resummoning carby every time he falls.

Just solo'd him as a 75 Thief(Yeah, I know I waited a long time for these).
I went in there expecting the worst from what I read on here. Popped the R2 Hairpin, Stoneskin Torque then spawned him. Pretty much he hit me every 1/20 swings, which shadows absorbed anyway. He did hit me once though which knocked right through stoneskin for 308 damage. So he does hit hard, blink tank would be recomended. In the beginning, I was expecting the immediate Self-Distruct, oddly enough, it never happened the whole fight. So... considering what others said, I'm probably lucky as hell. As other posts stated, having a BLM for Stun and a blink tank can easily win this fight at any level. Just keep him debuffed and he is nothing. I was hitting with my daggers for 70-95, and Criticals were at 115-135, Dancing Edge was between 850-1050.

My gear.
[Main] Blau Dolch
[Sub] Stylet
[Ranged] Ziska's Crossbow
[Ammo] Sleep Bolt
[Head} Optical Hat
[Neck] Spectactles (later in fight switched to Evasion Torque]
[Earring 1] Intruder's Earring
[Earring 2] Genin Earring
[Body] Scorpion Harness
[Hands] Master Caster Mitts
[Ring 1] Thunder Ring
[Ring 2] Adroit Ring
[Back] Corse Cape
[Waist] Survival Belt
[Legs] War Brais+1
[Feet] Dancing Shoes+1

Today I solo'd this guy RDM/NIN. I was thinking of duoing or something, but when someone in the linkshell said it couldn't be done, I was intrigued. So I set out to solo it. With two other RDM/NINs watching my moves, I did fairly well as I got into it, though the beginning was a bit shakey. I recommend warming up a bit on the skeles before going for the mob and getting yourself TP for Flat Blade just in case. Thanks to the tip of invising right after CS from the prior poster. I had on about the same gear including master caster mitts and had a fun time. Keep on all buffs, and don't forget the DoT, it'll make the fight go a lot faster :)

Just soloed this as a 75 RDM/37 NIN.

To pop him, I made a macro to take a prism powder:

/item "Prism Powder" <me>

which I hit as soon as the little CS was over. Chandelier popped, aggro-free. I simply engaged with my sword to claim him.

He hits insanely hard, so don't expect stoneskin/phalanx to protect you. My stonekin could take no more than 2 of his hits. You have to keep Utsusemi up at all times, with stoneskin/phalanx only to prevent spell interruption between recast.

He was very easy to paralyze, and my paralysis had an excellent proc rate. With blind up, he also missed quite a bit. I kept slow, Bio II and Poison II on him at all times too.

I kept myself hasted so Utsusemi recast timers weren't a problem.

When I ran out of MP, Chandelier was at about 40%, so I used chainspell, put up a fresh stoneskin and Utsusemi, then converted and cured myself to full. Then I just kept doing what I had been doing- keeping buffs and debuffs up and slowly nibbling away his HP. He exploded at 1% but it didn't do any damage (stoneskin and barfire were up) and I got the drop.

I didn't use food or medicine, but I have fairly good gear: Joyeuse, Genbu's Shield, Duelist's Chapeau + Tabard, Warlock's Boots+1. The tabard is especially helpful, because it makes Utsusemi very fast to cast in combination with the Warlock's Chapeau, and difficult to interrupt.

No Self-Destruct
# May 26 2006 at 4:05 PM Rating: Decent
I went in a party as follows:

75 NIN/WAR
74 DRK/THF
74 RNG/NIN
70+ WHM/BLM
65 PLD/WAR
60 THF/WHM

My roommate was the THF, and I (PLD) went for SATAing/Flat Blade purposes. We killed the skelies in the hallway for TP, and then had everyone stand back while THF popped it.

For the THF popping him, it's really annoying. Excpet to run around the ??? looking for exactly the right spot to pop him. When he finally popped, THF hides and DRK stuns.

The rest was easy. Not once did he attempt to Self-Destruct, and DRK and I were ready the whole time. After SATA Spiral Hell, Sidewinder, and Barrage, it was almost dead. Took all of about a minute. I don't know if it doesn't Self-Destruct as often after one of the updates, but any full party of 60+ with a NIN tank (or 74+ subbing NIN) with two stunners should have no problem.

By the way, thanks to Sirmatthew, Ashua, Coltx, and the WHM whose name escapes me. ^^

Just to clear things up...

Do not believe this website as your lord and savior, yes, hes a bomb, when he blows up he makes fire. BUT. HE IS NOT BASED ON FIRE. I will repeat it again not based on fire.

He *IS* weak to FIRE. I know this from actual knowledge not just because im trying to be a rebel...

I believe he is arcana TYPE, but part of the bomb FAMILY. do not confuse these 2.

Please change the description and not spread false info.

Nope SE wanted to ***** with the players they actually programmed every bomb type mob in the game to be weak against to Fire not just this mob every bomb mob in the game is weak to fire strange yes but as someone once stated before about this particular topic "since when has SE ever made since" ^^
RE: /sigh

So I know this post is a year old, but just wanted to give a little justification for the whole "bombs are weak to fire" business. There's an old saying that goes "fight fire with fire" and where that comes from, iirc, is that some fires are difficult to put out with water (oil fires, for instance) so large explosions are detonated nearby the fire to try and consume all the oxygen in the area. Fires need oxygen to burn, so if all the oxygen is removed, the fire will go out. Thus, you've put out one fire with another.

I could be wrong on this, but if memory serves correctly that's how it all works. I'm not saying what SE does always makes sense, but in this case there is an actual basis for what they've done.

And if this information is already posted elsewhere I apologize for being redundant. ^^;

How much HP does this guy have? Because if he has under 2000 I can just chainspell -> Fire III him and spam Utsusemi, since there will be no cast or recast time.

If you are 75rdm/37nin, why the hell are u trying to chainspell in the first place? :/
#REDACTED, Posted: Sep 16 2005 at 6:25 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) why would u use Fire III on a fire based mob? why not water spells??? just a hint. u might do alot more dmg on him, and i dont think it would work just cuz he hits HARD as in 400+ dmg on my 60 thf hard. and he scors alot of double attacks so ud be dead b4 u could get 3 spells outs....

This is NOT fire.. its a bomb.
Bombs(well most bombs, i suppose) brows up when lighted with fire. Hence bomb type mobs are weak to fire not water.

Just a hint. you might want to know what u are talking about before giving suggestion to other people.
#REDACTED, Posted: Sep 19 2005 at 1:20 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) And YOU RockHarder might want to learn how to read the description of a mob before you go criticizing someone for giving suggestions.

see what happens when you give crack to children. Yes you were apparently correct. I can be man enough to admit that I was wrong about bomb type mobs. I was unaware at the time (2 MONTHS AGO) that they were arcana type mobs.

I kill DS all the time and Firaga 3 is the most effective spell.

Okay,

First of all... I wasnt flaming anyone... I was merely pointing out that RockHarder's logic is his criticism of some one else is very flawed because he didnt bother to read the description of the mob before knocking on someone else.

Secondly where do you get off saying he is a mage when there is nothing in his post to indicate this?

Third, who cares if I am a PLD or not.. Im also a level 60 BLM and have been playing this game off and on for over 2 years... I think I know a few things about the basic mechanics of all jobs in the game.

and finally, Just because Firaga 3 does more DMG against Darkspark doesnt mean anything. DS is a POS NM. I've solo'ed/duo'ed him myself as a PLD/WAR for people many times... But we're talking about Chandelier here. A much higher level NM Bomb. And as such your Firaga 3 is going to be resisted more than if you were to use a spell the mob is actually "weak" to.

Did this fairly easily with a few LS members. I first fought this bomb as a 75RDM/37NIN, and I was the tank for it. At first, we planned for a PLD (Level 60 or so) so flash the bomb in order to plant an SATA Dancing Edge on my back. Needless to say, PLD dropped dead after about 2-3 hits. This bomb was hitting him for about 350 damage a hit. So then I proceeded on taking this with the THF, as well as a DRK and WHM friend who were standing back, the DRK especially since he did not want to pull hate right away. About 1/4 into the fight the DRK began to fight.

The bomb is quite inaccurate. It will not attempt self-destruct in the beginning if the bomb does not see you at the start. So have the THF use hide, and have the initital tank have invisible on, then make their move after it pops. It missed me a fair amount of times, but it does double attack, and if this bomb gets through your shadows as an RDM/NIN, your stoneskin can and will be one or two shotted at most by this bomb, so be extremely careful when tanking this. Eventually, DRK used Guillotine and turned the mob to him. It whacked him for 665 damage and killed him in one hit (not at full health I think). But this bomb does not have much HP so it is not that difficult. He attempted to self-destruct at 1% HP but was killed before it could.

WHM raises fallen comrades, then casts Escape. Buuuut, not everyone passed on the coal, and we ended up losing it. Ooooi!!!

Next day we went back, no WHM at all, just me, PLD, DRK and THF. I did the intital move to tank the mob, everything went quite smoothly except towards the end. We ended up having an undead link to due low HP (so be careful of this), THF almost died but PLD safeguarded her for enough time for the bomb to die, and me to take out the skeleton. Quite a close call. THF got her coal and everyone was happy ^^.

So, RDM and THF could duo this mob without too much trouble, RDM could solo this as well, just be VERY careful if your shadows are penetrated, this guy is the hardest hitting AF mob I have seen yet. Hits a 75 PLD for 180-200+ damage. I would not recommend blink tanking this unless you have Ni and Ichi. Best of luck.

So, after reading everything about this. I thought I would post how we did this. I was a bit worried after hearing how this bomb wipes out entire parties, so we took a 2 party alliance down there of people mostly over 60 with a 75 RDM/NIN, 72 WHM, and 70 RAN helping out as well. The strategy we used was having the thief activate the last ??? and then immediately use hide. The rest of our party was behind the wall there and our RDM/NIN cast invisible and then ranged attacked it to claim it so it wouldn't explode. After it was claimed, our entire party then began attacking it and made short work of it. I hate to spoil the movie's ending...BUT The only problem occured when our 60THF decided to SATA DE off of our SAM and thus our SAM was toast pretty quickly. The second time around when it was my turn, our RDM/NIN wanted to solo it, so we let him and JUST TO CLARIFY... This bomb can explode even after it is claimed. I had read numerous posts that it would not explode after it is claimed, but I can say without a doubt that it does. When our RDM/NIN had him down to about 1/90th of a life, he decided to explode... killing 3 of our party members. Luckily it did drop the item and I was able to complete the quest without having to fight him again.

We took a video of our first fight and if you want to see it, it is here: http://www.team-rowdy.com/movies/thfaf.wmv

Be sure to watch cloudx in his starring role, because..well....he dies in the end.

I cannot remember everyone's level, but our main tank was our 75 RDM/NIN and we had a full 2 party alliance of people over 60s except 3 people and it worked out very well. I would highly recommend high level help for this, because when you are beating on it, it seems like that bomb never wants to die. Good luck

Two 60 Ninjas and a 60 Thief owned this thing easily, I'd suggest the Ninjas carry sword for Flat Blade to stun Self-Destruct, have the Thief bounce the bomb back and forth between the two Ninjas with SATA. It hits very hard, but has bad accuracy. Just don't lose track of shadows, it hit the other Ninja for 500 unberserked when he lost count.

First time I spawned him I went by someones stupid idea to spam a steal macro...only thing is your not sure where he will spawn and i had my back to him, cant exactly steal with your back to the target. So he blew up on me....but it didnt even kill me...maybe im just that good...or that lucky. Anyways next time I spawned then hid while the nin was standing there invised he voked we kicked its *** no problems whatsoever. So everyone out there crying that this is one tough nm...not exactly

THF58/WHM went to there to do the running so my helpers wouldn't have to waste anymore time (sub WHM = sneak). Decided to try it and got him with Prot+Shell+Barfira up. I manged to make him explode, took less then 20% of my HP dmg and got 200XP....could repop him in maybe 10mins after death. Even tho u wont get the quest done this way, u can XP quite good of him with minimum risk...

It appears you got lucky and it didn't try to suicide during the fight. A stunner will prove invaluable in this fight. My LS did this today 4 times consecutively, and he tried to explode every fight.

Blink tanking is the way to go for this one, definitely. It hits VERY hard. One time a paladin who was with us (for coffer help) tried to take over tanking, i assume out of habit, and got his *** handed to him in record speed even though the mob directory here lists it as level 63. Our LS leader (RDM75) subbed ninja to blink it while we SATA+hide behind her to start and the 2 thieves that were 60+ tricked on her throughout the fights.

Chandelier is nasty, and best taken down quickly if possible.

Well, I thought I would be able to tank this mob but I soon found out that would be impossible.

As a 60PLD/WAR, This thing hit me for 250 normal hits and 450 criticals. Ouch...

Of course I died. I guess it doesn't help to have a WHM to not cast Barfira during the fight at all or throw one Cure III on me but the second PLD was able to continue where I failed. His WHM cured him pretty well...

/cry

Well, I think a good NIN tank is probably best for this fight or a high level PLD.

Yeah a pld tank is not a good idea, my first attempt at this guy was with 60 thf/nin (me), 61 whm, 62 blm for stun, and 73 pld. Chandelier hit the pld for 180ish and without any sort of refresh and with very little DD the mages ran out of mp with the nms hp half gone. First went the tank then he proceeded to pick us off one at a time very quickly, doing 500+ per hit to me and the mages. At least at no point did he try to blow up heh heh. I came back with a friends linkshell with about 12 people and we killed him twice, each fight taking at most 30 seconds. I recommend that if you arent gonna go the safe route like i did and just use a few people, have all the DD get tp on the surrounding undead and set up possible skillchains, although not really necessary.

I did this fight a coupla times. From what I've observed, really trying to tank this bomb is folly, what you want instead is to keep it stunned. And I mean that, this thing likes to spam berserk (as if it's offense wasn't insane enough). When you see all these posts saying how crazy this thing's offense is, believe them.

From todays experience:

LVL 75mnk. Everyone else was level 50-60. Alliance of 14 people.

Strategy:

THF used Flee and then touched the ???. He used Hide, then Steal. Instantly both BLM's Cast Stun and we went at it. Complete and total slaughter after the Stun's hit.

The two Prior attempts where the THF just hit the ??? and steal it used Self Destruct and killed about 5 people the first time and just himself the second time. Reason for the Flee was a just incase he needed to run if the Stun Missed.

The second AF NM for RDM well...he just sucks.
