Yesterday I got a message from ls member to come to Sauromonge to fight HNM i'm a lvl 63 DRK, so i get down there and we have a 2 alliance setup going. Unfortunatley we have a 57 Paladin as the only real tank. So the 65+ Redmages decide to tank also using stoneskin, blink etc. It wind attack hit mr for around 700+ dmg. WE got it down to less than half life after 15 minutes of fighting it and suddenly BOOM its uses Benediction, I was in shock to say the least, after a total time of 42 minutes fighting this thing with 12 people, 2 deaths during the fight, we finally get it to drop. IT dropped a damascus ingot whihc sells for 2.1 million and a crimosn blade along wiht some elixirs. That was a very challenging battle but well worth it in the end. Roc rocks!

I watched a group of 7 people in high 60s/low 70s fight him two hours ago. Impressive battle. Sadly, they slipped up and the tank died. Everything went down hill from three. 5 people killed, other two ran. I saw them regrouping after, but sadly couldn't stay for the second attempt. Definitely a tough NM.

What was your name again? I was part of that group helping with that BLM AF when we saw that thing running around, was even more unnerving when we found that the person who was suppose to get the coffer forgot her key(brought the wrong one). One thing for sure... Never bring that many people down to garligae for a coffer hunt... Forgot to mention that just about everyone in that allienced died when that bomb exploded... Well, that was a good way to learn that those things aggro on magic too ^^;

I watched a party of 75 beat on it for 20 mins and not finish it during that time. Heh I saw it benedict but hadn't realized that was what it did, all I saw was it suddenly had full health again.
Killed it

I was with a Garlaige coffer hunt alliance (mostly lv 53-56, one lv 60 DRG) yesterday, and we stopped in Saromugue to get the stone tablet for the selbina clay quest when we found this HNM.

At first we just attacked it, but then at about 50% HP it used benediction so we zoned and regrouped. We put 3 BLMs, a RDM, a BRD, and a WHM in one party, a PLD (me, the main tank), WHM, RDM, and DRG in another party, a PLD, 2 DRGs, and something else in the third party. It hit me for ~180 hp consitently (lv 55 PLD, not exactly up-to-date gear and no AF). The healers did a great job and so did the BLMs except one pulled aggro for too long and ended up dying ; ;. It was tons of fun though and we all got the title "Roc Star".

With 60 being the highest level, we got about 4 exp each, but it dropped a little over 2k gil for all of us too.

The item drops were:
1x reraiser
1x vile elixir
1x crimson blade
this is one..

BIG *** BIRD
Hard to believe

I find it hard to believe that this NM is limited to level 55. When I was going from the Shakrami Maze to Jeuno I saw perhaps a full alliance of level 65s fighting the thing. I sat there for a couple minutes and they only got about a 6th of the health down before I had to leave.
Summoner

Smns never use their avatars to fight, unless they're soloing, which is like never or 2hour. All the smns I've ever grouped with only used garuda for group blink, titan for group stoneskin, and sometimes ramuh for group enthunder. Such a shame they're only used for support.

That is so true. I think smns should keep out the avatars they worked hard to get and keep them out to fight. It sucks when i see them sitting in the back acting as a whm or blm.

i have seen this NM... I was riding my choco from jeuno to Windurst and as i was going through sauromugue Champaign, i came accross a party of Japanese players fighting him (Roc). That was probably about 3 weeks ago. At the time... i was only a lvl 21 Whm. So i just sat on my choco from a decent distance, and watched the battle. (I was concerned than an AOE attack from Roc might kill me).
The japanese players were all lvl 65 and won the battle pretty easily from what i could tell... The party members that I remember being there were... a Summoner, White Mage, Black Mage, and then I think a Dark Knight, Monk, a Theif... I may be wrong on the last three. The battle took about 25mins... and just before they killed it the first time, the Roc used Benediction and recovered 21,000 hit points plus a few... I remember one time, Roc did use an AOE attack that put the whole front line into the yellow but the Wht's picked up on that quickly and everyone was back in the green again shortly.
Ummm... i dont remember anyother cool details. The WS that the melee's were useing were scoring 1300-2500 damage... And after watching the battle, i rode off to windurst and my choco gave out in the canyon so i had to get a new choco to finish the trip...

like i said, this was about three weeks ago and the detail are a bit fuzzy... but i loved the battle. It was great to watch. Oh... and another point worth noting, the summoner only used the summons for their buffing capabilities... and i beleive he also used Astral Flow 2hr during the battle as well... He never just let the summons battle it out with Roc. which i thought was unfortunate... I like watching summoner's use the summons to fight... I guess that's why im a summoner too. =)
