Got the knife as 75thf/nin with TH2, not in a party.

Earth time: ~12:30am EST Thursday, Aug 31, 2006.
Vanadiel time: Lightningsday, 7% new moon

After claiming Sozu, I asked a thief with TH4 who was camping in a party if I could invite him so I could borrow TH4. He not only said no, but then he and his party member kept standing behind me trying to get me to die to throat stab.

Killed Sozu anyway, and the knife dropped.

Hitting THF71 i decided to take my chances. . . to find ye olde RMT compadre Blab (galka mnk75/nin) playing decoration in the room. . .some time after Sozu pops only to be chi blasted by the 1st step he does. . .by the time i get ANY feedback from my macro spamming it's already hitting the fecking RMT. . . thx god our great SE got rid of all botters and rmt (http://f15.aaa.livedoor.jp/~faifan/index.php?Bismarck). . .

By the time Blab finally noticed he('s bot) had claimed Sozu and started to engage & cast utsu, he had already lost ~40% of his HP (about 600ish). 1hr passed and other known faces appear, Amemet (elv nin/war), Boyish (taru blm/whm), Kathar (hume rdm/blm). . . now i can say "i am in good company" with company being THE word. . .so, while you guys complain about not getting drops after ************kills i guess i'll sulk&complain a bit about the claim-botting RMT that SE officialy banned <.< I think I'll just go back to playin Dirge of Cerberus and hope the office workers' shift ends >.>

Edits:

after some time the <company> has to leave for Overlord . . and i start killing the PH.

Capped Eva

My Eva is currently @ 236,and far from cap,but my marksman is capped @ 230. You dont have to have capped Marksman to take this down as a Thf. To be honest I dont even haev my O hat, but thats another story. When I do camp this my setup consist of: SH, Spectacles<which are new>, Elusive earring x2<which are new>, Emp Haripin,
War Gloves, Flame Ring, Amulet Mantel+1, Mithran Stone, Dragon Sub, and Dance Shoes. The new stuff I have helps, but still not needed to take him down.

This guys so easy to camp

Lotery pops w/one PH and a small area of NM pop is a THFs dream, just grab a egg timer (or watch your Mug timer) and go afk, come back, watch radar, kill PH or claim NM, go afk....

wash rinse repeat...

I have almost 3 months logged in this room (most of the time afk) and easily claim over provoke, stun, dia, RMT, bots, darts, boomerangs, WS, 2hrs, ect ect..

easy to claim, all to easy to camp, ridiculously lousy/random drop rate....

I've seen 3 of these drop in a week, one which would be mine, and seen none drop for a month...

I soloed this notorious monster at level 75 thief. But, you MUST cap your evasion and marksmanship in order to live. Bring bloody, acid, and sleep bolts with you. You will need them all. One last thing. Watch his Throat Stab. If that hits, it's lights out for you! You may want to use a Stun Knife or Stun Kukri with you. Those stun attacks may help you defeat Sozu Rogberry. Happy hunting.

Ok the fact that this is rare means u can only carry one... well i was camping this guy when a thf with the knife showed up, i asked what she was doin, she said she was camping for the knife. I got soo pist when she said it knowing that she can't get the drop even if she tried unless she drops the knife she already has...

I think most people get misconceptions when they see people camping something that they already have. You're just angry because she's camping something that she already has and you have to fight with her to get it, when she might have been doing it for a friend. People don't just camp things for fun...

LIES!!!!

I spent over 500 hours camping Mee Deggi the Punisher.

Not for the drop, but because NM camping is the only thing I'm good at besides Shadow Tanking XD

It took 55 claims for me to get first drop, 107 for the second, 187 for third, and I'm currently at 3/341 right now...

I camp 100% fun and I love outclaiming botters and GSers (Kind of the same people lol)

The drop is just a plus for me... Not the reason I camp though...

Just an update since a lot of this stuff is focused on people getting their drops:

Spawn conditions:
Sozu Rogberry is a lottery pop off the *one* Tonberry pursuer at G-8 on the third map of Temple of Uggalepih. The placeholder pops every 16 minutes. ONLY SOZU ROGBERRY CAN POP INSIDE THE ROOM!!!

With that said with the implementation of numerous MPK patches a terrible burden has been placed on THFs when they try to claim this NM against RMT. Me being 0/66 at the moment, I've really caught my niche claiming this vs. others using darts. It goes real easy like this:

/targetnpc
/ra <t>

That's it! There are times when you'll get locked out but not often, and even then others will have been locked out so just keep mashing your macro until it's claimed. I have run into another minor problem which is when Sozu decides to pop in a corner to the left or right of me, that is I won't be able to see him. It's a small gamble I've made in order to better my claiming chances which have skyrocketed because of using darts. The best way to widen your field of view is during window run into first person mode and back up against a corner to expand your field of view as best as possible.

Yes the drop rate is awful, yes some people get hella lucky. As for those who are looking to camp it DO IT! In between windows there's money to be made from stealing and other pursuers that drop gold coins. And if you level clothcraft to 22 you can turn coats into linen with some wind crystals. I've made more money than I can ever imagine camping him (enough to probably buy the damned knife...) which has really powered my thief up.

Happy hunting boys and girls.

I wouldnt try to solo it untill at least lv 70, but ya never know.. keep it blinded and have bloody bolts ready, u may get lucky.... just watchout for THROAT STAB!!
RE: Help
# May 22 2006 at 5:20 PM Rating: Default
you can turn away from throat stab and have it miss you, since it IS an attack towards your throat. By turning it can't hit your throat.

actually most of the time it will still hit you, though it may reduce his accuracy. you have to turn and run out of range asap. it is possible to get out of his stab range before it goes off, but have to be fast.

0/2 on this guy, just started though

Got mine Friday after noon. He had been killed about 3 hours earlier while I was afk at work. My record wasnt too bad... somewhere around 1/20 or less. I didnt want to keep an accurate count though because I figured it would just depress me. This guy from my LS went 1/1 about a week before I got mine -_- I also had a friend that got the knife about 2 hours after some other dude got it. His drop is truly just random imo.
I NEVER got a Mugwort and cant imagine this **** dropping Waterga III. It makes no sense since this is a THF NM and generally only mage-types drop mage scrolls.
DARTS are a Thieves best friend here when camping against others. I claimed it solo with a Dart the day before I got drop in a room full of people. My little Dart beat Stun, Provoke, and Chi Blast. Just face away from the door and make a /target npc RA macro and start spamming it when its time for a pop.
As a side note, Id like to say anyone thats not a Thief that camps this should be castrated. It should be made EX to deter greedy @$$holes that camp this in hopes of making some gil -_-
Grats to all my brothers and sisters that get this knife... it takes a lot of determination and pain to get it.

Sorry i was mistaken about darts. I honestly thought they were not affected. I've seen charm, voke, and mug no go off from what i assumed was the delay. Didn't say anything just didn't do anything. Where as when i would miss claim with darts i got "You cannot attack that target" which i assumed was cause i got excited and tabbed off the nm.
um.. darts can time-out too

Well, grats on your knife, Maligant. I have to say, 1/7 is obviously very lucky. I wont call BS, because I'm positive this drop rate varies and I imagine people are sometimes a lot more likely to get the drop depending on w/e mysterious factors effect drop rates.

I would like to say a few things about your claiming method, however:
Darts can DEFINITELY be effected by the time-out phenomenon we've all encountered since the big MPK nerf. I know this from first person experience. I've had darts time-out on me on multiple NM's and rare-spawn mobs: Spook, Sozu Rogberry, Oozes in Beadeaux.

Is there anything a THF can do to claim Rogberry without fear of a time-out? NO! You gotta be quick and/or lucky. My advice for those of us not lucky enough to never time-out and go 1/7 on Rogberry: be consistent! If you're worried about timing out, and you're a fast claimer using voke or charm or something, put a /wait 1 on your macro. Or, if you tend to be a little slow on the draw (like me) use a /targetnpc direct to /voke or /mug or whatever. And from there: always do the same thing, dont hesitate depending on the number of people you have to claim against, just keep trying to claim early or wait for others to get timed-out in the same fashion every time you see the little bugger pop. The end result with consistancy using any of these methods is that you will get your share of claims. You will DEFINITELY miss some, but not all. Only other piece of advice I would offer people is to spam like crazy if you get timed-out, you can still get the claim if the mob opens up late enough. Thats another reason I dont like using darts, if you get a time out with a dart you're probably not close enough to rogberry to get a second try with mug. Even so, darts can work. But don't say i didnt warn you when you get timed out using them. It will happen.
1 for 7

Got my knife last night after about a week of camping nearly non stop. When i logged on i missed the first pop to a 3 person team. Came back an hour later and when it didn't pop at exactly an hour two of the other team left. Sozu popped 2 spawns later. I was there with Sam friend and a Blm that was looking for the steel that drops from stabbers, who offered to help camp in exchange for them. Ty Rav and Goth!

I rarely missed claim with darts, and /targetnpc, /ra <t> macro. I stood facing the door with my back to the left corner in 1st person, able to view just a little bit of the left wall. The entire time i was there i missed 2 claims.

Pop times i saw were 1 to 6 hours, any longer i would logout. Darts were pretty good since they are not affected by the claim delay. And standing against the wall i was able to claim even if it popped right in my face.

From what i've read i'm really really lucky and considering rabbit charm took 32 kills and monster signa took 24 i imagine i am.

Good luck to all you thieves out there that are still going for this knife, unless i'm helping somone out trying to get theirs you won't see me out there again!

Hey, listen "ultimate" PLD, your claim that TH hurts the drop rate on sozu rogberry is completely useless. You give no supporting information at all. You don't even tell us how many kills youve had. This is just not one of those logical claims here, people. It's one of the kind of things you hear people say when a drop rate is really low, and they are surprised they havent got the drop easily anyway.

For any thief out there thats looking at camping this guy (and you shouldn't unless you have a lot of experience and can handle long pop times and competition) this PLD's claim has no merit whatsoever. From what I've seen the guys with TH+1 armlets and camping partners with THF KNFs get the drop faster than those of us with plain ol TH2. This thing is most likely somewhere between a 2% and 5% drop rate depending on TH, day, weather etc... That rate is low enough that TH+ is a very slight advantage!! If you're unlucky as hell you could go 0/200 on this NM, statistically speaking. But I think this is very unlikely. Of the people I know that seriously camped this, i.e. lived in Temple of Uggalepih, they all got it eventually. YourPassenger, if you're 0/50 then good job on all the claims and keep it up, statistically speaking i think it is likely you will get the knife if you keep claiming in those kinds of numbers. If you're just frustrated because you spent your weekend camping this with a friend and didnt get drop even though you had TH, then get a grip and leave this camp for the THIEFs to worry about. Either way dont start rediculous, baseless, spurious rumors about things like this. BS rumors like the one you're trying to spread drive people away from the camp and leave it open for gilhunters.
