Fafnir in Dragon's Aery
Fafnir Special Attacks
Historical InformationFafnir (in Norse mythology) was the son of the dwarf king Hriedmar, and the brother of Regin and Otr. Armed with the Aegis helmet, or Aegishjalmr, Fafnir served as a guard for his father's golden house. As penance for killing Otr, the trickster god Loki gave Hriedmar the cursed treasure of Andvari, which included the cursed ring Andvaranauts as well as the swords Hrotti and Ridill. Fafnir and Regin, in wanting the treasures for themselves, killed their father, only for Fafnir to take all the treasure for himself. Upon doing so, he was transformed into a dragon (a symbol of greed in European mythology) and hid away with it. Regin, wanting the treasure for himself, tricked his foster son Sigurd (in some stories, named Siegfried) into killing Fafnir for him, using the sword Balmung to pierce the dragon's heart as he was walking towards the stream he used daily to drink.

That video was useless ;; - framerate was bad, and all you really saw was chop-chop-distortion-chop-chop then items. You'd be better off posting the drop insead of that video -_-
I think the ever-invincible 6 BST party could do it. I'm not a beastmaster, nor have I ever played a beastmaster, but those little guys can freakin' kill anything. Get a few BST/NIN and BST/BRD. and some BST/WHM, BST/RDM maybe a WHM/SMN or a WHM/BLM just for *****. Seriously though, BST can kill anything, Fafnir is no exception.

If you've ever faught fafnir you know that he has somewhat of a mean AoE, and without a PLD tank or WHM , and some type of refresh.. Its really hard without both ballad and Refresh on tank PT though~
In fact, a single party of BSTs soloed Promyvion; also, a SINGLE bst can solo LB1 supposedly

I don't think so. BST/NIN will not block hurricane wing and fafnir will take a darter out in 3 hits and take alot of the life of any other pets with hurricane wing. With no way of regening MP, even 18 bst/whm would have major problems. This setup will not work mainly because of hurricane wing. Even with jug pets, this would be extremely hard for bst regardless of subjob...never mind that if they stand in the wrong spot or pets attack from the wrong angle they will all be killed by spike flail. I would just say don't get your hopes up of killing this with bst. I don't think he drops much of anything useful to bst anyways except ridill (RARE RARE drop anyways). We've killed him 10 or 11 times and never got one.

For it to take out a Darter in 3 hits, it would need to hit for over 1000 a hit to a Darter, as they have over 3000 HP each.
I haven't fought Fafnir, but that seems too much.

I've seen a japanese dude with all jobs to 75. He had Maats Cap. Plus I saw all his jobs. That must have taken forever to achieve.

u think this is scary... you should meet his brother Vrtra (lvl 95 Dragon MOB in {king ranperre's tomb}) i saw a vid of sum lvl 75 alliance beat it tho and it took 30 minutes and a few ppl died numerous times, while every1 came close to dying at sum point in the battle

My brother had a lvl 47 rdm and he took a look at him for a pics with invis and sneak. He took his picture and he aggroed my bro. His attack was a kind of bite and my bro block it with his shield! He casted chainspell//warp and he was alive! lol what a F***ing lucky!!
This guy is not that bad to kill with the right setup. We took him down in less than 35 minutes with 3 rdm 3 brd 2 pld 3 whm 2 rng 3 blm 1 smn and a war I think was the setup with a few subs here and there for dmg/deaths. BLM and RNG absolutely OWN this guy in DMG. Summoner...spinning dive {yes, please}. Keep a couple of /smn for blink in the PLD party and he's not bad at all. We got Hrotti, Aegishjalmr,some Abj I forget, dragon heart, dragon talon, dragon scales and some other random stuff..and who could forget...2 fire crystals. lol
Edit: He is actually very weak to lightning on light SC. BLM get a nice MB of 1100-1400 or so on thunder IV...and even as RDM I was bursting thunder III for 770-800+ at times. GL, he's not that hard once you figure out the setup. This really dropped our TOD down. We have killed him and as little as 23 min. We took him down in 35 min with 12 ppl. 19 kills now...1 Ridill -_- 4 Hrotti. Stingy *******. He gives ~80-90 exp usually for a full alliance..so i'm guessing he's around lvl 84-87 depending on whether he's a high level pop or not that day.

After about 5 failed atttempts ******* stratagies) my LS killed him last night, and we killed it faster than ive ever seen. 2PLD, 2WHM/SMN spamming aerial Armor, 4RNGs, 4BLMs, 3RDMs, 2BRD, and a MNK i think was setup. Took him in 35 minutes. Dropped the aegisdjfahsdhee, Hrotti, and N. Abjuration head. The fight is all about the strategy you use. You cant expect to go in and zerg him. One big issue, at least it was for us last time, was dumb asses accidentally casting on darters. Gotta be careful there

Last few times I've watches this fight the HNM ls have been using war/nin to tank it prb for more hate so the blm or rng don't pull it causing havoc.

seven? how in the... you know that you fight it with 18 people, not 3? We kill it on Remora in about 25-45 mins, depending on jobs available. Claiming is the only challenge on Faf 95% of the time.

We just plowed through Fafnir in a little under an hour excluding the time we spent sleeping him while people LD'd, arrived, etc... Fun fight, but I died early when I got in front of his wing; that didn't happen again. ^^;

I must say I'm rather disappointed with the size of this guy. He's not all that much taller than a Galka; I was expecting the Legendary Wyrm to be massive (Tarutaru-sized toes would've been appropriate).

We fought fafnir after maintence one night and it had some breath attack even with barfira it hit for 1600+ damage, I don't see much a tank could use that has -% breath reduced anyone got any idea's besides using the sword he drops with -% breath ? We were all under his wing and used spirits within + ran the marathon blink, it was just that 1 hit KO breath even with barfira on.

That's not a breath attack, that's spike flail, the strategy is don't let him do it or everybody dies

Fafnir is cake. Can easily kill him with 10-12 people, though I couldn't really see a 6 man setup working. The dragon will only spawn once a day and there's always a chance of the king version (Nidhogg) spawning. If you get a Nidhogg spawn and don't have at least 8 damage dealers (rangers and blms only... none of this thf/sam/drg dmg crap) 2 whms and 2 plds get out.
PS - I've been there for 30+ fafnir deaths and haven't seen a ridill drop. We just recently got a thf his AF2 th+ piece so hopefully with TH4 we'll have better luck.

My ls killed fafnir last night on garuda with 13 people. We only had one summoner and the fight took about 2 hours. At the end the big ******* dropped earthan abj. which sucks because we had no drk. I was really disappointed in the drops. Still a really fun fight!
