Tonight i was wandering around sauromugue completing training page 5, the one with tabars and weapons, as a 46thf/dnc. Get over to the area where this thing spawns, and there he is sitting there. I'd fought it before at around 56mnk, kind of a pain, but i thought "what the hell, i have reraise, 300tp for heals, and i'm always attacking nms that i know nothing about, worst case i get pwnd and reraise" Ranged attack with acid bolt misses, engage. it hits me a little more than half of it's attacks, averaging 60-70 damage per hit. no big deal, my curing waltz heals me for 69 so i figure i'm all right. then he uses hammer beak for 200+ damage. ouch, maybe i won't be ok. burn 100 tp healing back to full and continue. uses poison pick a few times, no big deal, minimal damage. after about half hp he pops hammer beak again, along with a flurry of double attacks. hp in the red, so i decide to perfect dodge and bring my hp back to full. once pd wears the thing still seems to be double attacking more often then he should, manage to finish him off with about 50tp left after all the attacks i hit him with and starting with 300tp. no drop this time around, but was happy to have beat it 10 levels prior to my win with mnk ^^

Camped this bird for about an hour and a half as a 59mnk/28thf. Another 50ish monk came in and competed, but I think he got bored and left. I just kept killing the 2 cockatrice PHs, found the bird, killed it, and got the drop. 1/1 =) Also stole a giant feather, dropped a **** skin (lol..juvenile, i know), and another giant feather. Not bad. Moving on to the next.
I hate this NM so much. -.-

Over the weekend, I've been running through the Belt quests fluidly. Found boths rams one day and Morbolger the next day after just 45 minutes. Then I found Dodo for the first time, but no drop, so I just disregarded it and went out to camp Nue, who, after an hour and a half, I never found. Then a 7 hour ls party coaxed me into joining them, and directly after, I went back and got Nue's Fang 1/1. I was feeling optimistic and aimed to have done both Purple and Brown Belt quests in just two days. So I headed back to Dodo and found/killed him again. But again, no drop. Disappointing, but I would return the next morning to try again.

Next morning before school, 0/3.

The following evening, 0/4, 0/5.

Yesterday, 0/6, 0/7, 0/8.

...Why SE? Just why?

Lol, and of course I go to camp it and after 10 minutes it pops and I get the drop. XD

Just had an annoying fight with this giant chicken as a MNK53/RNG19. I had been farming the Tabar Beaks in the area and was curious about NMs in the area. So I look on here and find that he spawns right where I'm at. I farm the PH and a couple in the local vicinity (I know greedy) for about an hour and POP goes the chicken. I Hundred Fist him and he goes down pretty easily, no drop.

I continue farming the Tabar Beaks and get down to about 800 life when Dodo pops directly in front of me less than two hours after the previous fight. Not having expected him this early I was not rested and a couple of other farmers were in the area. So I finish off the Tabar Beak I am fighting and proceed to Dodo. I have no abilities left but counterstance and I am fairly poorly equipped at 53 (hence the farming). We take a few moments knocking each other around until we are both down to nill. He gets the final hit off first. I HP back to Port Jeuno.

I am now deleveled to 52 and pi$$ed. I grab a choco in Port and race out to where I was knocked down hoping to see if someone polished him off and got the drop. My luck he is back to full health and no one is near him. I hop off, still have 10 min to Hundred Fists, so I popped Focus and Dodge, used Chakra around 800 HP, and Raging Fists 3 times. Finally he drops and I am the proud owner of my first piece of the Brown Belt. Now that I have this its on to the other two.

*Moral of this story - Don't go out with Gimp Sub, rest periodically, be prepared, and never give up.*

I was out leveling my Fellow and just as my fellow leaves I start heading back to Jeuno and I see the Deadly Dodo. I checked it and when I saw it was an NM I attacked it. I soloed it as a 51 NIN/ 25 WAR using all Ninjutsus and it took about 10 min to take down beacuse it had about 4500-4700 hp. It never hit me once (Utsusemi: Ni FTW) and I got the Dodo skin on the kill and I was WTF was this for and I checked it out and lo and behold it was for the brown belt which sells for 450-500 k on Shiva. Now I am going to get the other two NM's and make me some gil! I'll update when I get them!
interesting fact about this NM and certain others.
# Apr 26 2007 at 9:43 AM Rating: Decent
So, I noticed something interesting when camping this NM today. It shares a characteristic with certain NMs I have camped in the past. If you are using widescan, you'll notice, as previously mentioned, that it has 2 PH's directly below the first Champaign Coeurl. Respawn is exactly 5 minutes on both, give or take 2-5 seconds. Now strangely enough, every of the 4 times i've killed it, it has a bit of a "delay". Meaning, if the PH were to spawn in 5:02, then if Deadly Dodo is going to spawn it could be well into the area of 5:20! This is confirmed with, and without widescan.
Other NMs that do this:
NOT Leaping Lizzy, tested many many times.
The 2 Ram NMs you have to kill for purple belt.

Anyways, just thought i'd share some info, hope this helps some people.
Good luck on your Brown Belts!

Morlbolger i went 1/1 on, Nue i went 1/9. I hate you Square Enix, it's rediculous for this crap to take this damn long.

Took 5+ hours of camping for this NM to pop. So people are not lying when they say that it can take a long time. I killed the 2 ph's every 5 minutes without fail.

Had my brother head out during the last 30 minutes with his 51 thief for TH2 so I would have a better chance on the drop. 1/1 on this NM.

Well camped this bad boy for 6 1/2 hrs last night with a couple friends...no pop >_> so i decide to call it a night.

wake up ask a person who was camping it also if it poped......it did...10 mins after i logged X_X

couple hrs later decided to try again...nohin so far, killing Taber # 40 and am praying it will pop

btw took 3 days to find ToD on Morbolger got claim 1/3
have'nt done Nue yet, hopefully it will be easy

did rams yesterday for purple belt 1/1 on RR and 1/1 on LL ^^
Tougher then it seems...
# Dec 13 2006 at 9:24 AM Rating: Decent
This guy is tougher then he seems with all the mobs in the area getting in my way. I was a lvl 50 Blm when I fought him. I would try to nuke, sleep, then rest but with all the gobs in the area I kept getting aggro.

So then someone I knew sent me a /tell from Jeuno I asked him to come help me and he was outside in 2 minutes and Dodo was dead shortly there after. Got the drop too.

Currently on my 6th hour of camping this NM without it showing up once. I've killed it two times previously, gotten the drop 1/2, once for myself, this one is going to be for my other character. This NM has two placeholders, on widescan they appear just after a Champaign Coeurl, and they spawn every 5 minutes. I had a macro set to /wait 60 /wait 60...5 times, then /party Pop! <call14>. I kill the first placeholder, hit that macro, then kill the other one. When I hear the call, the first PH is respawned, and the second is soon to come. It's an interesting idea of how to keep track of time if you don't have 5 minute cooldown abilities.

This was the most helpful post I found in this thread. Got it on the first drop. :D After some hours of camping as /thf, I got tired of feeling like a chicken with its head cut off, and used this method. I'm very pleased. ^^ Thank you again for this idea.

Have some questions in regards to the PH. around J6-K6 areas, there are around 4 beaks in total, however some posts say there are only 2 PH. So, if it is actually in fact 2 PH, which ones are they? the ones on lower hills or upper hills?
Finally got mine!

I went 1/6

Got 4 consecutive Deadly Dodos today!
7PM PST 9:30PM PST 11:53PM 2:30AM

Wasn't having much luck subbing THF for TH1 so on my 6th run I went Nin/War & camped w/ a Brd friend. There were 2 other RNG campers at the scene. I kept my eye on them while my Brd friend went to hunt Deadly Dodo. I think it was a pretty good lock down. :)

Popped 2.5 hours after each Deady Dodo kill. We started killing PH after 2 hours though.

I've been checking for this guy off and on for awhile now but tonight was the night I decided to officially camp him. Another MNK was there, higher level than me, and I thought he might be camping the Dodo but he was just there for meat/skin so we teamed up! He got a bunch of skins and crap, and I got Dodo skin. Popped after about 45-60mins of camping.

First try! ^_^

best to come /rng or rng/ or have somone with rng.

the Taber Beaks resawn every 5 mins after death, and there are only 2 that are placeholders, so if you kill one, and 8 minutes later no respawn, it's probably cuz somone killed it, and if that's the case it may have been deadly dodo. this is why rng is helpfull.

after you kill one try setting a 5 min ability like hide, or scavange, or whatever you have that takes 5 mins to recast. when the counter hit's 0:00 always expect deadly dodo to be up and run like crazy to find him, or spam widescan. (there is a 4 second delay on widescan, and the real time of death is when his name disapears; not when it's grey; so you're better off using your 5min abil then). if it's just a taber your 5 min ability is right there, so kill it and set the ability again. i'd also suggest you bring thf45+ for th2 (not solo thf 45 mind you as you would probably die) if you come thf/rng bring your thf as 55-60 cuz it'll be tough otherwise.

spawn is 1-3hours i've never seen nor heard of longer than 3hours except from the forums here, somones says it took 6 hours, i hate to say it but it probably popped after 3 hours and some rng on chocobo probably saw it or something and tracked it with claim in 10.4 seconds then finished it off and ran away.

Actually i have proved this wrong, it was actually a funny story. I killed both taber baeks and used my timers exactly when the mob disappeared. i was relaxing just watching my 5min timers and then all of a sudden, Deadly Dodo walks right past me from behind me with about 5 or 6 seconds left on my timer! lmao! And yes i know which 2 tabers are placeholders and i was acurate with my timers, so this leads me to believe ToD is when u first kill it not when it disappers.
# Mar 19 2007 at 7:24 PM Rating: Decent
Unfortunately, that doesn't prove anything wrong. 5-6 seconds could easily compensate for serverside lag. The accepted method has been to wait for the monster to disappear for a long time now and base it on the Vana'diel clock rather than your real life clock. Hell if I remember the timing for five minutes on the Vana clock, however. >.> I use a stopwatch. Either way, you should always start widescanning or running around early. Sometimes a PH will pop late, and sometimes it will pop a little early.
Got it
# Aug 23 2006 at 9:51 PM Rating: Decent
went and killed like 15 dodos, nothing then went to work at 1 PM EST..got back at around 10 30 loged in and looked and there he was... claimed him killed him dropped it, i waslike sweet. took like a minute. lv 72 drg here.

btw, i may be paranoid but things tend to drop more often when you try obtain them as a job that does not need it.

Deadly Dodo = retardedly easy

so i head over to the spawn area with my 56drg
i was a little worried it would kill me so i asked a friend if they would help and they said they would be there in a min
right after the /tell i see it
i go for it and kill it, no sweat

btw, this was all done within a 15 min time period
