Wow this was a pain... took me 6 tries to get it and for those of you still trying, i feel for ya. I've heard of ppl of killin him in the 'teens' and still not gettin a drop. Shame on SE for making a non-equipable, rare/ex item such a pain =P. Really, the only advice i can give is on his pop time, which to me was very random. He's popped as quick as 49 minutes after T.O.D. and as long at ~5 hours ><. The time i got the drop, it was exactly 2 hours and 41 minutes between pops. Overall, it wasnt a total waste of time.. u make good money of the beaks and coeurls in the area. GL to everyone... off to camp Nue. /cry

I was out farming with 3 friends <WAR46/MNK23> going for tabar meat when my friend starts scall'ing ... I run over to find that he has come across Deadly Dodo... (I didn't even know there was a NM there) we take it out in under 10 mins and I got both skins so now i am 1/3 to betting brown belt....others tell me they are 0/10 on drop from this NM but I thought it was easy....oh yeah and didn't have a THF with us either.....lol
$$$ ><

It's about 600k on Titan >.>
Getting the purple belt is not too difficult, just while you are camping, shout that you are doing the Purple Belt quest. If someone spawns it and they are nice, they will invite you. Once I got those, I definately accepted this quest lol.. Found it fast and killed it fast-ish ;P Never took any damage, and I kept Barpetrify up. (64RDM). Almost done 2/3~

Here's my story on dodo, I was on my way through Sauromugue to go to Zi'tah and solo Guardian Treant for Sam quest, I decided to drop by Deadly Dodo's spawn area, just to see if by some chance he was out, AND HE WAS! So I'm about to hit my sneak attack macro, I'm 56 thf/nin, but decide to just engage cuz i see a high lvl blk approaching dodo. Took me 5-7 minutes, but i finally kill him with about 700/902 hp. Got Giant Bird Feather, Cockatrice Skin, and Dodo Skin. 1/3 of the way to gettin Brown Belt.

Farming cockatrice, this guy pops, my LS tell me top get it, but I only have 42 HP so I shadowbind it and wait for them to come. Unfortuantly it unbinds before they get to me so I run most of the way to Jeuno with it on my tail, we got the drop too ^^

My 45 monk buddy wanted to get the skin, so I (50 rdm) decided to help him kill it. He came out with all holiday equipment on and me being a rdm already had crappy defense, so even though we were destroying the birds we were losing a lot of hp at it. I told him "watch us be at 1/2 hp when this thing spawns" well, I was wrong. We were gonna kill off one more bird and sit down, he had about 200 hp left and I had about 150. Just then I get paralyzed and the dodo spawns. He yells "SLEEP IT!" I managed to sleep it and we killed the other bird. Dodo woke up and my next sleep failed due to paralyze, monk dies. I get down to a little over 50 hp before sleep works. He went to home point and took off running back this way. Luckily a mage was walking by and we invited her and she healed me up and helped me keep the dodo at bay. Finnaly the monk showed back up and he 2hrd it and killed it in about a minute. No drop, but an interesting adventure.

As a 53mnk/thf I spawned him twice. 1st time a bst stole him from me. 2nd time I 2hred him, hit 46 times in 1 minutes for about 80ish each, only missed once. Raging fists for 600 twice. He petrified me when he had but a sliver of life left. I was un-stoned with 150hp left, killed him with 94 hp remaining (i have 1162 total). No drop:(

I accepted the quest because the belt is 400k on Lakshmi so i went over to it. I shadowbound it, then used sleep arrows, and sidewinder. I heard it petrifies so just to be safe.

Killed it as 55thf/27nin with only utsusemi:ichi. It didn't hit me for the whole fight, all I did was using ichi and blinked away the occational hits. Pretty easy fight actually, it petrified me actually for about roughtly 1 minute, it hits me twice during the whole time and hit me for about 50dmg per hit. Afterwards petrified wears off and I continue to bash it with my little dagger. I had about 500hp when i engage it, left with about 398hp. Long fight indeed.... (Dodo skin droped the first fight lol...)
no drop

I just killed this thing about 20 mins ago. He popped in left part of the circled area. I soloed him as a 48rng/15thf. It took a few fire arrows and 57 sleep arrows :-p

I added up all the damage that I did to him over the course of the 10 minute battle.

His total HP: 4500

I could have really used a good au lait or potion durring the fight. I normally carry one with me when camping this guy but I forgot. Figures, the one time... Anyway

If you're planning on soloing this guy i would recommend a few lv 50s or to solo it 55+. I wouldn't have survived long if i didn't have a stack of sleep arrows on me. If any 45+ RNG wants to solo this thing, it is possible. Just make sure you bring an au lait, a few potions, and plenty of sleep arrows.

My strategy was to start sleeping him right away because shadowbind wasn't ready yet. I hit him with sleep Arrows over and over until my Shadowbind was ready. Then I used Shadowbind, Sharpshot, Barrage, and Flaming Arrow. After that i just slept him over and over until he finally fell over. I got hit occasionally between sleep arrow hits (i missed some and he just woke up really fast a few times). I went in with about 3/4 hp and ended up at about 1/5 my hp. I thought I would surely die in the beginning but I survived!

Hope this helps someone out!

Just killed my second one today. Killed one with 54 MNK, 54 PLD, 54 RDM no drop, later found and slaughtered one by myself and it dropped. The first spawn was outside to the left of that oval, second one was dead center.

A 54 Monk with Hundred Fists will have no trouble beating this turkey down.

I wanted to give this a Go after work, and I did. Grabbed 2 Hi-Potions and a Icarus Wing to try my Luck w/ a 42 Mnk / 21 Thf.

I 2 HR'd and All, Took ~ 20-30% off before I Ate Dirt, a 74 Blm/Whm Came by, Did another 2000+ Dmg and Killed the Mob, w/ no Drop :(

Got a Raise, and learned that a 40 NM and some Potions = Hurt :p It was fun to Try tho, I'm glad I put a Decent Dent in the Mob :P

The map above is kind of vague and may make you think to not look outside the oval.

I subbed RNG and went out to slaughter Tabar Beaks. The main "camp" was dead center of the grid J-6/K-6. I only killed the beaks that popped in the radius of widescan from that point. With constant kills, I got Deadly Dodo to pop twice in two hours. He popped @ K-5 and K-6.

Widescan isn't a "must" but it is very desirable because you will want to kill every Tabar Beak you see... but you may lose the pull if someone else is there because while you are busy with Tabars, they could kill the Dodo you worked so hard to pop.
got mine!

I decided to camp this while waiting for an invite on my 64 Monk. Spent around 2 hours maybe camping it.

I ran in a triangle motion from I-6 to J-6 to where J/k and 6/7 meet (and back to I-6). I killed any T. Beaks I found and Thunder Elements (They'll spawn by the cliff during lightning weather).

Deadly Dodo spawned where I-6 and J-6 meet. Fight took only a few minutes, It took 161 HP off me the whole fight (43, 22, 18, 13, 41, and 24).

I got the Dodo Skin as the only drop, yay! (also went away with 9 Cockatrice Meats, 3 lightning clusters, and a bunch of other little goodies.

Pretty hard

RNG54/NIN27. Saw it on Widescan but unfortunately I was down to about a third of my HP. Found a spot nearby to rest, but had to move and find another spot to rest when a Goblin popped up beside me. Though there were at least three others in Sauromugue at the time farming Dodos, he was still unclaimed when I had healed to full 5 minutes later, so I got up Utsusemi, Sharpshot, Barrage, and then popped Shadowbind. My barrage hit for just a little under 700 HP and barely budged his life bar, so I announced to my LS that I was screwed. I stuck with it anyway, as without Shadowbind I wasn't going to be able to get away from it any time soon. Luckily, he's not very accurate so with another set of shadows I was able to avoid taking any damage until his life bar was half gone. At this point, I stopped wasting time having Utsusemi interrupted and just kept pumping arrows into him. Did an Eagle Eye Shot for 850 or so and brought him down to about a fifth of his life. Then I remembered I still had Wooden Arrows equipped and switched to Scorpions. It was very close and I would've died for sure if he'd landed the only Baleful Gaze he attempted, but I survived at 42 HP. Not so much as a feather dropped (I have lousy luck with NMs), but that's one more NM crossed off the list.
Saw him...

Killed him last night THF57/NIN28. Went in with about 75% health, he had the upper hand for a little while but i managed to keep Utsusemi up for most of the fight. He did manage to get a Hammer Beak past it tho which hit me for nearly 200. No drop either, I'll continue to farm while I camp.
