Lately i have been having the urge to lvl drk again. Since it is 62 i figured hey, nice sword
{Can I have it?}. So I grab a few stacks of Quus and head on down. My 1st time i try alone, which ended up in 1 dead ninja. Oh he spawned 2 times in 4 quus then. ; ;
So next time I grab a whm/smn buddy, thinking piece of cake. Wrong. Never spawned in like 3-4 hours. >.<
3rd trip he finally shows his face, no drop.
4th trip and 4 days later had to spawn him like 5 times then boom! Arondight. /cheer
So moral to the story, You cant fight Cancer alone , and it takes patience. lol =P
Edit: The problem isnt fighting him, its pulling him. ^^ Carbuncle, i love you.

I went with some LS members for a skill up party, and we owned the crap out of him when he decided to show. The jobs we had were 75WHM, 74RDM, 70WHM, 68DRK, 67BLM, 66DRK (me), 63WHM, 62PLD, and a 55PLD. The fight lasted about 5-8 minutes, and we had the RDM74/NIN tank him, and he only got down to about 1/2 health once or twice. He doesn't hit very hard, about as much as a lvl 60 xp mob would. The BLM did about 1/2 the total damage to him, as the melees were only hitting for 1-60 (depending on his DEF at the time) and my Souleater + SaTa + Cross Reaper only did about 280 damage. We beat him no problem, but the PLD died from a Haunt and Robber Crab aggro. Out of the 15 fish i've traded, he popped 4 times, with no sword drop (/angry motion). There's only 1 person on the Fairy server (that I know of) that has this sword, so i'm (as well as some of my LS members) hoping to be one of the few to have one.

i am a smn73 with 0mp costs while carby is out. i tried to solo this crab after 10 attempts to spawn it. once it did, i tried to solo it. carby hits it for like 7-8dmg and in return carby was takjing like 45dmg. definately not soloable. i zoned when carby was almost dead :/
As far as I know I'm one of only 3 people on my server (Caitsith) that have Arondight. It took me over 2 months to get it with a vow that I would not lvl my Drk until I did. I do know now that Cancer's spawn is indeed random. I have gone 10+ quus and gotten only robbers. And when I finally did get the drop it was the second time in a row that he spawned.
Anyway, a few final key stats on just how long it took to get the guy:
My Drop Rate = 1/19 (5.26%)
Skillup Levels obtained (Just me): 178 (on 3 weapons)
Number of Coffer keys that dropped during the hunts: 63
Don't let this discourage you though, this is a awesome sword and it looks amazing.
Anyway, a few final key stats on just how long it took to get the guy:

I talked to a JP who i had seen soloing it, who told me he had killed Cancer himself over 50 times with no Arondight drop. /cry
Also, when i first went to pop him, he was popping like every third or fourth pop, but now im on a streak of 20 with no cancer. Something might affect his pop rate, but knowing this game its just random and frustrating like everything else. Happy Hunting~

In the process of aquiring this Great Sword for my drk. Tried last night with my static, we were 1/8 (or something like that) on pops and 0/1 on the drop. Our setup was 65 pld, war, whm, rdm, drk, and a 54 blm.
We had the whm sub smn and sneak carby pull. When he popped we pulled him up near the enterance. We did Raging Rush >>> Guilliotine for Induration with a Freeze burst. We pulled him by the zone so the blm could zone after freeze.
Took 3 skillchians to bring him down, all of our mages mp. No real danger, but it is draining if you don't have a nin tank. I'm lvl 65 drk, my guillotine only did 217 dmg to him and normal melee was 30-40. Took us 6 mins to beat him, no drop.
Also, the ??? is on a 20 min timer. We timed at 15, 18 and 20, and it always was up at exactly 20 mins from last spawn attempt. Also, when we fought him, the ??? was up 20 mins from spawn attempt and not ToD.

omg gruel dropped for you O.O im 0/51 on it...
Recently, i have regretted never leveling a great sword to exp with. i have never thought great swords had decent weapon skills until level 200 skill. So with being hard with cash nowadays and having taken off 3 months of leveling just to buy the "standard" drk gear i got anxious about this NM. well i looked into greatsword and for a 68 the only options were a mythril heart or a zweilander +1 or however its spelled. I already invested into a 500k+ scythe didnt have money to spend on it so i decided to camp this NM. Party consisted of 75blm, 75nin, myself, 56whm, 62whm, and at least 6 other melee's...basically overkill. After the 10th try he finally popped. Instead of pulling with a smn, there is an easier way. When u go into the zone, instead of turning left into the room to go pop him, you go straight. The first left turn you can make, take it...then take the next first left. you'll end up on the opposite side of the NM pop. Have a mage or someone with sneak run and go pop the NM. If pt stands close enough to the rocks, he'll aggro them so no need to pull. There is a haunt that is on that side of the rocks. only one, and it had the same respawn time as the the ???. I got extremely lucky and got it on the first time i fought him. Since them i've popped him 3 more times for pld's who have been skilling up with me since ive gotten it. all 3 times he didnt drop it so i consider it lucky. i hear some ugly war stories and no one needs to pop the NM just to have a bad pull and have it unspawn by the time u can get back into the zone. like in previous posts it is VERY resistant to physical attacks. Magic on the other hand...we did an induration SC with a Freeze MB...let's just say i had to Stun the mob just so he could Warp outta there quick after pld had no chance to get hate back. It drops about 1500-1600 gil per each person in a 6 person party. I think this sword is worth the trouble. its a gorgious sword and the water dmg comes into play every so often. If you can't afford the mythril heart, currently 800k on Caitsith, i'd go with this. Definitely worth spending a week skilling up while camping it. Goodluck all....btw Woot! Light SC's now!

belive it or not ~ we kill this 4 member, 62 DRK 59 NIn 64 Whm/SMN 60 BST. took us 25 min BUT NO DROP and then alway been 3~5 ppl level about the same 60ish after 1 week RLT and 10+ death we got the NM and got the drop ^^ me hehhehehe

I camped this thing for 4 days straight for a DRK friend of mine.
The night we got it to drop the pt set up was SAM/SAM/NIN/WHM/DRK.
It would have taken forever but me and the other sam just did a 4 part SC twice and took about 75% of its health
Lol when the DRK saw it dropped she went around /hug ing everyone. I'm just glad i got Spirits Within during the time we camped it lol

Ive spawned 33 robber crabs and no Cancer... do I have super bad luck or did they change the spawn rate?

I just thought of something horrible, yet amusing:
You can't cast beneficial spells on mobs, so according to Square-Enix, you can't Cure Cancer...

Actually, you COULD Cure cancer...it would just have no effect :P (As you can Cure undead mobs and it will have effect, but Curing normal mobs gives you "no effect).

I know now why so very few people have the sword. I've been hunting it for 2 months now and have popped it a total of 6 times with no sword drop. The thing is next to impossible to actually spawn, and even harder to get the drop itself. Not to mention it's also next to impossible to find a party suitable to take it down who is willing to wait hours on hours for a great sword drop. My view is it is definently not worth it, however I'll continue to hunt it until I get it only because I've already invested so much time into it. If anyone else is interested in this sword, be aware that you have a much better chance hunting Argus lol.

Killed Cancer easily with 64 whm/blm/rdm/drk/drk/pld. This NM is much easier than people make him out to be, it was basically like an xp mob fight, only a bit longer. He didn't hit very hard, and I (drk) was hitting for 50-70.

submitted a pic, its not up yet, it was kinda hard to tell (bad angle) but still something to fill the space :D
You obtain this by trading a Quus to the lower area after the W. Altepa Zone (The room with all the haunts). It will either spawn Cancer or a regular Robber Crab. Either way, the safest way to pull is with Carbuncle unless you want to clear all the other crabs first. The drop rate on Cancer isn't 100%, and the chance of spawning him seems to be 1/3. You have to wait 15 minutes before the ??? can reappear again.
This guy has incredibly high defense. With 400+ atk, I was hitting for 0-5 damage. I'd suggest a party high in black mages.

Me and my LS just fought this thing today. We had a small alliance of people ranging from 55-65 PLD (me and a level 55 one), DRK (2), WHM(2), RDM, BLM, THF, RNG. Well, after about 3 spawns of robber crabs, we finally pop Cancer. The whm/smn gets Carbuncle and pulls to avoid the haunts. I had Protect IV, Defender, Boiled Crab, Gluttony Sword and that level 55 shield. As soon as Cancer gets to us, I voke and get smacked with 131 damage, I nearly **** myself cause I heard this was a weak NM. I switch to Earth staff and damage is taken down to about 90, and even with my Earth Staff, hes still hitting for atleast 108 dmg total per normal hit and 220 from critcials with his en-water effect. All the melees go after it, they're hitting for crap damage, the RNG is only hitting 21 with ranged attacks. Then the WHM yells to kite it (I have never kited anything before so I just went with stuff I heard about) I start running around in a big circle, and Cancer follows, the mages nuke, melees follow and attack. The fight took about 10-13 minutes, and we let the THF strike the last hit. We got 3 crab meats, a crab shell, water crytal, and a Arondight! ^o^ The level 65DRK got it. Me and my LS plan to camp this thing till I and another DRK get it ^o^

Yes, the Cancer NM will dissappear in a few minutes if not engaged. A friend of mine popped one before the party was ready, then after a few minutes it just disappeared. Best way to kill it is to have a someone sneak and pull it with carbuncle up to the safe area where the lizzards are. Don't forget to sneak before trading Quu to ???.
I've killed it when I was in my 65s with a party of 60+ with a PLD tanking, but should be very easy with a ninja tank. Took about 5 mins to kill it. I don't know what the drop rate is, but I got it on first try. Lucky me I guess. I've sent in a picture just now.
