This is my second, and FINAL time EXp'ing on these... VERY slow kills, even with brd, they hit extremely hard, and camp takes forever to get to and is VERY dangerous to get to (aggro EVERYWHERE for both sight and sound, and VERY few safe places to recast, even the tunnels are inhabited by multiple goblins). I think anyone who exp's here vs these is a fool - there are MUCH better places at ANY level, and if you think Caerdva mire is "too crowded" with 36 people (like my last pt) then I suggest seekign professional help! I"ve gotten 12K an hour there before with 92 people in the zone!
easy solo fight

i solo these on my 75 drg/whm. the T ones give about 140-160 exp/kill, the VTs give 250ish exp/kill.
Not a bad spot for lvl69 pt

Brought my static to these at 69. NIN THF WAR SMN WHM BRD

They have just under 7k HP so they take a while to kill and without a brd it may be hard to get chain4 or chain5 on them.

They do "Riddle" which is max mp down so PLD tank will have a hard time tanking here.

Tanking as nin is pretty easy on them as elegy + slow will make their attacks slow enough to cast ichi without interruption between hits.

Deadly Hold is another tp attack which only takes 1 shadow but if you dont have shadows up it can one shot you; highest dmg I saw was 1092 from it (tarutaru nin).

Camp outside the cloister of gales.

Took these on as a 67MNK in my party. They are definitely one of the stronger mobs based on level, and we did pretty good despite being there a bit early for 67. Bring a BRD if you plan on playing with these guys, otherwise don't count on the DD's to be doing much, as they've got high evasion, hp, and defence.

5 bsts lvl 65-67 can chain these bad boys. Bring pets to cloister entrance off map top left. 200+ base xp before chain. They intimidate lizzies.
Good times

Everytime I came to Gustav Tunnel I saw the Cape Terrigan zone. I always wondered where it would leave me and if it could be used as an alternative route to the Cape. So I zone in. For those that don't know, it leaves you off the map at the top right hand corner. You end up inside a tunnel which leads to a pit with 5 or 6 of these bad boys with some Sand Cockatrice (71-74) friends. This pit is a dropoff from the main Cape, meaning you can't get to the rest of the Cape from here. You could probably run into the pit though if you go to the top right of the map. That will take you back into Gustav Tunnel.

Anyway, I have sneak/invis on and do some scouting. I check these mobs and every one of them is IT++ to me (RDM58/29BLM). Before I leave I think it would be fun to cast a tier II spell and run. So I position myself in the tunnel as far as possible from my chosen victim, but within casting distance. I leave invisible on while casting to buy me some extra last seconds. I finally start casting Fire II (this is before I read they're strong to fire), and it lands.

"Gotti casts Fire II."
"The Greater Manticore takes 11 points of damage."

So I turn and run. I had only taken 2 steps when I see...

"The Greater Manticore hits Gotti for 339 points of damage.
The Greater Manticore hits Gotti for 320 points of damage.

Gotti's evasion skill rises 0.1 points.
The Greater Manticore hits Gotti for 324 points of damage.
Gotti was defeated by the Greater Manticore."

These things are VERY fast and hit VERY hard. Either way, it was fun.

Happy hunting!

these are good exp for 69-71 but slow.

also mages stand back & they would hurt a pld ank because of their max mp down ability.

meera, just remember that.
