I was testing out fishing these at SSG. Is there a place I can fish that doesn't involve possibly catching a cobalt jellyfish? Or am I forced to always esc each time I get one? I love this place because you do not spend time waiting for the ship to go .... but the cobalt jellyfish can be a tad annoying sometimes (although the monster bite rate her doesn't seem to be as much.)

I was fishing over the wooden barrier yesterday and got a Sea Pugil. You guys just got lucky, but YOU CAN STILL FISH MONSTERS if you fish over the wooden barrier.

Also, I didn't catch more than 3 in an hour and they then started to bite. My skill didn't rise either, so I don't know why it took me an hour and a half to catch 3 then 1 hour to catch two complete stacks....

Even At SSG the biting rate is more. But I think it is safer to fish on boat. According to my exp, I got killed by fishing up a lv65+ fish. Besides, I kept fishing up monsters...which means my chance of fishing up that ******* fish again is pretty high. I am a lv75 drk and it de-lved me to 74. =(

My fishing skill is lv19. I was fishing a bit on Port jeuno with shrimp lure. Fished up a few tiger cod and got skilled up not bad. Maybe this is another opinion at my fishing lv range. ^^

If you use Crayfish Balls on the ferry you are garunteed to catch Nebimonites, and monsters. These are the only possible fish you can catch with crayfish balls.

Check it out at my favorite site to check fishing
---> http://www.clanwind.com/ffxi/fishing/
Fill in the Filter search for any of the fish you need to find the area, guild points, max guild points a day, Areas you to catch your searched fish in. Play around with it i cant remember it all!

Nebimonite = 156 Guild Points.

Maximum per day = 2320 Guild Points.

Turn in 15 Nebimonites to gain the maximum.

Glass Fiber rod

Just an added note.

I found out purely by accident that using Crayfish Balls and a Glass Fiber Rod works too.

It is also great at targeting Nebs.

I was on the boat with a lot of Glass Fiber Rods and Light Crystals to level my alchemy by breaking the rods and fixing them. Much to my dismay I did not break any rods.

In 8 trips on the boat using this combo I did not break a rod once. It seemed I broke my line more than usual, but I never got a "too small" message once.

I will warn you that I did break the rod on the 9th trip, not once, but twice.

BTW if you DO want to break Glass Fiber fishing rods, use lugworms, they are cheap and will break your rod at least 25% of casts.

Good Luck

Agreed lol. I see the Sea Horror every 3 boat trips it seems. Gotta love calming fishing while this horrible monster is patroling around on the deck. ^^

ridiculously expensive? ridiculously cheap is more like it, especially at 13k a stack... considering you run into sea horrors and you only get about 2 stacks in 2 hours

These guys cap at around 29 (give or take a level).
Best bait to use is Crayfish paste or Shrimp Lure.
The rod will break anywhere on the boat, but not from nebs (on composite anyway.)

One peice of advice, if you use a shrimp lure pay close attention to the sweat animation(small animation= Nebimonite OR Noble Lady, Large animation about the size of your character= Gugru Tuna from Hell), or you'll break the rods a lot (no matter WHAT your using, LuShang to)
RE: questions answered
# Jan 19 2005 at 11:09 PM Rating: Decent
In regard to the animation advice.
Will a composite break on a small sweat animation, and the big animation fish this rod will break on?
Or will the rod break no matter which animation?
Just checking, please correct me

So You are able to catch these with:
A carbon rod,
on the selbina-mhurha boat,
with shrimp lure, or crayfish ball, or peeled lobster, or rogue rig.

A couple of questions:
-Does your line break often?
-Does your rod ever break while fishing over the steps wall?
-What lvl do these shellfish cap at?

I was fishing for those yesterday, out of the new/full moon, I got a stack and 7 singles within an hour. I didn't notice any "nerfing". Fishing 44.
Niebimonite Nerf?
# Oct 04 2004 at 10:32 PM Rating: Default
I fished up Nebimonite on the Ship from Selbina to Mhaura for about 2 weeks in a row, nonstop. I was cathching at the very worst a stack every hour and a half. Since the Promathia Exp. pack came out I have been only able to catch about 6 every hour and a half. I am thinking they have "nerfed" this item in making it harder to catch. I had 6 stacks up and had put them up for many weeks in a row without selling. As soon as I noticed this Nerf the were all sold in the same day and sell like crazy in the auction house. So my vertict is definitly "NERFED" for the nebimonite.

From my personnal experience. Don't raise your skills on those, you're gonna spend a lot of money on the baits and it doesn't raise your skills fast at all.
Now if you really want to do it, get a carbon rod and crayfish balls, I've never broken my rod with those. I break my line sometimes. I also use composite, when I do I get "too small to fish with this rod" messages sometimes too.
If you're around level 25 you can go there during the full moon.
I would recommend to go to the pond in La Theine around level 20 with a mithran road and a frog lure (you'll make money and will raise your skills) and then when you're level 30 go for nebis and get cash.
Level 44 fishing I get nebimonites easily.

So just to clarify this thread since some people have been adamantly wrong here ;o] You can catch these in the Sea Serpent's Grotto LAKE not the ponds as well as on the ship using the following baits.

Crayfish Ball
Peeled Lobster
Rogue Rig
Shrimp Lure

I have never seen these sold by an NPC myself. Someone stated that the ferry store has then from time to time... it is possible only if a PC sells them to the NPC first O_O I don't know.
Nebi question.

Just curious, is the bite rate normally pretty bad on Nebis? I caught 3 stacks over a course of about 8 hours total using 8 stacks of Crayfish Paste and a Carbon rod. Fishing skill is Lv22.

On a common boat trip I could catch 1 or 2 Nebis. Sometimes I wouldn't even get a single bite on the boat ride. I don't think bite rate is affected by skill level AFAIK, only the percentage of pulling up the bites you do get. Thanks for your input.

What level.....

what level do you have to be for the mobs in Sea Serpent Grotto to stop agroing you?
RE: What level.....
# Jul 01 2005 at 3:03 AM Rating: Decent
all depends on where you are. like all the duengeons the mobs get progresivly harder the deaper you go.

at 54 I can still catch aggro from a few EPs, I would guess close to 60 and you would be 100% safe..?

???
wandering in SSG I spied a ??? and decided to click it as a whm66, and unlike the usual nothing here message A NM (sea monk) popped (nm popped because i had a quest flagged in norg) and gave me a few love taps. Then it killed me and walked all over my dead body, One shotted for 979 DMG. upon further reseach this guy can apparently take out a lvl 75 who is expecting the fight.
This map does get progressivly harder so it is always best to /check the enemies in the area to be sure there level is too weak to worry about, most enemies here are sound aggro. If you are fishing be sure you fish in a safe spot where you wont get aggro from undead (who aggro anyone with low HP, sneak on or not). If you fish up a enemy and take a enough blows you could add undead with your low health. Never assume you are free from aggro, if you /heal in the wrong area you can catch aggro.

I catch around 6-8 per trip with lvl 45 skill and a carbon rod + crayfish paste. At lvl 40+ the carbon rod stops breaking every time you use it, the line breaks instead. Carbon gets a high bite rate compared to other rods but is very breakable, so you can't use lures and must avoid baits that will attract large fish (at 40+ rusty items usually won't break it, but a tuna certainly will). lvl 45+ alchemy and a stack of light crystals doesn't hurt either. I tried catching these below 40 using composite, mithran, tarutaru, and glass fiber and with all these rods I was lucky to catch 1 or 2 per trip so I just gave up and went back to moat carp. Soon as I got to around 42 I went back and gave it annother try with the carbon rod and I could pull up a stack in 2-3 trips (though moat carp are still more profitable because I can pull them up almost every cast on a good day)

monsters on boat
# Feb 25 2004 at 6:43 PM Rating: Default
Also, you will only fish up monsters on the boat if you fish over the rope, at least I've done it for days over the wooden wall, and no monster, third cast over rope = monster. Nobody else who fishes over the wooden wall gets monsters either. Note that things will still spawn (Sea Horror, pirates if ur unlucky), but just get behind the really strong people and you'll be fine.
