Seriously, this is a wretched excuse of a sword that is only needed to unlock Dark Knight.

just kill another 100 mobs with it after completing the dark knight quest, return to palborough and go on the boat again and u'll get an upgraded chaosbringer

Incorrect. To upgrade the Great Sword of Suckiness (aka Chaosbringer) to Deathbringer you must take it to the Gusgen Mines and trade it to a ??? at G-7 on the top map. This is a quest that you will recieve after being flagged Dark Knight (talk to Gumbah after finishign Dark Knight).
When I first went to the Gusgen Mines it would not accept my trade. I'm not sure the exact conditions for the trade are.

My bet is that this is the sword that you use to earn the Dark Knight job. You have to kill 100 enemies with a great sword that the NPC gives you. Wouldn't it make it a lot harder to kill 100 enemies if they made the great sword weak? The reason the sword is weak is because Squenix probably just made it that way to make acquiring the job more difficult. If you'll notice, they compensate for it by creating the Deathbringer. THe Deathbringer is an AWESOME great sword, ESPECIALLY for lvl 5. Damage: 20 Delay: 466 Attack: 8 Level to Use: 5 and exclusively Dark Knight. The only question is how to get said great sword...
