Removed Chomo Jinjahl and Kopopo because they don't sell baked popotoes. I'm assuming they only sell them when a cook sells them to the NPC.

Synths per minute

Someone in the thread mentions that 2 synths per minute is hard to believe.

I average 2 per minute, and i get 5 per 2 minutes (given the time it takes to let you try again).

Its just a matter of having your inventory sorted so that as soon as one synth is done, you can get the components in for the next one and spam enter until You must wait longer before repeating that action goes away.

how the ????

When i try to make these i make these with ease but when i try to make apple juice i get 7/12 on synth?

great under 10 food, dont sell em, eat em! makes lvling a LOT faster at those low levels

when you start with 30 hp and get 20 for 30 mins ... HELLO! for some jobs thats like having the hp of a person 2 lvls higher with no toto plus the extra vit helps soak up some of tht unsightly dmg

EAT EM!

haha to those earliest posts,,,uh i know what the cap is but i decided to waste 3 stacks of fire crystals and got no skillups. my cat's breath smells like cat food. i eat glue

RE: guild points
# Jun 15 2005 at 11:08 AM Rating: Decent
confirmed, it's worth 80 GP, the cap for the day is 2000 GP.

2000 / 80 = 25

So 25 NQ synths will yield max GP for the day. If you get an HQ(pipin popoto), you can turn it in for 85 GP, not much of a difference.

These are great for damage takers, as they give HP, +VIT and I've heard 2 LS members tell me they add an extra 12% defense.

Someone who's job it is to take damage from the mob for his or her party will like these a lot.

You'd really be better off with an actual tank food, such as tav. tacos(if you can afford it), boiled crab, fish chiefs, etc.

+3 VIT(HQ version) and a few HP is ok, and may be acceptable for a low lvl valkurm party, but other foods are much better and you'd get laughed at trying to use this past qufim I'd think. Good luck..

Synthing gold?

Lucky you.

9 synths, 7 failures, 0.1 skillups. I decided to log off for a few hours to see if it was an anti-potato moon phase or something.

After stopping making butter at 16.7 cooking, I decided I had way more butter than I needed, and started with baked popotos.

After buying 6 stacks of fire crystals, I started synthing at midnight of Windsday, too anxious to wait an hour for Iceday. After 5 synth supports, my cooking had raised from 16.7 to 21.2, and of the 72 cooking attempts, I succeeded 68 times, losing a total of 4 crystals, 3 sticks of butter, and 2 popotoes.

Each baked popoto sold to the guild for 107 gil, so I wound up getting 7276 back. True, the money you lose on crystals (assuming you don't farm them yourself) is rather high, the fact that I already had all the butter from lower level cooking, and only spent 3150 on the popotoes I used make this almost exactly a 200% profit ratio from the ingredients I had to buy separately to the finished product. I'll take 4.5 levels in a litte over half an hour anyday.

How the heck you do 72 synths in around 30 mins? Let's say 36 mins for easy math. 2 synths per minute? I just can't believe it.

You also spend time getting the adv synth help and must sort your inventory too.

Not really bashing you, just want fresh cooks to know that some people stretch the t--r--u--t--h when telling how long it took them to lvl up how every many lvls.

Assuming you have your crystals, ingredients, ample space in inv, and just got your adv synth help you should be able to go up a lvl in about 10 mins. You shouldn't spend more than 2 stacks of crystals to go up a cooking lvl. You need to cook something at a higher lvl if that is the case.

This dude's guide rocks in case you haven't seen it.

Butter and Popotos
# Aug 30 2004 at 10:43 PM Rating: Default
Baked Popotos sell for about 90g each at the guild shop, if I recall correctly. Selbina Butter sells for around 20g each. It's supposed to sell well on AH, but people in Windy AH on Kujata keep driving the price down horribly. It was at 800-900g per stack last night, was down to 600 by this morning, and is at 500 at the time of this post. Quite ridiculous.

It's difficult to sell baked popotos for profit because they don't do well on AH (at least, not on Kujata) and they go for about 90 each at the guild. If you made your own butter for anything but skillups, then don't expect a profit of popotos. Fire Crystals are expensive. Then when you tack the price of Selbina Milk (not very cheap, about 100 each) and Ice Crystals (about 1k a stack), you're losing more than you make. If you buy butter at the guild shop, you might yield a little bit of a decent return.

Popotos are not a good item for moneymaking. If you're low-end in your cooking skill and want to make money, Bug Broth is the way to go.

yes but bug broth actualy makes more of a profit selling back to a vendor rather then on the AH... that is if you don't want to wait for them to sell and would rather just get rid of them as fast as you make them. I did that for a long while just to make some extra gil and keep my bank up.
wtf?
# May 28 2004 at 11:45 PM Rating: Default
I dont ge why you guys hate these. I just finished getting from 11 up to 18 with selbina butter, so I had like 30 stacks of butter sitting around. so I grabbed 3 stacks of fire christals from the AH and 3 stacks of popotos from an NPC (look it up lazy), headd to the guild and started.
I loved these little dudes, I got at LEAST +.1 on EVERY SINGLE SNTH! I thought 3 stacks would only take me to 20 and maybe 21 if I was lucky, but It took me all the way to 22 (only becuase it caps).I was getting endless +.2's I wish they capped at lvl 99!
I tested to see what the did, and yeah, it seems like they do nothing, but I kept one for a battle, and it seems to incress your attack speed. maybe even boost your evasion and accuracy /shrug
Great Synth Item

I concur!
I just started cookin' these guys a few minutes ago @ lv16.0, and i'm getting 0.2 almost every time without any failures yet. No adv synth.

I like these for leveling too!
I did nearly exactly the same thing ^_~ need to find something for past 22 now T_T

These sell for 90gil a piece at the guild, selbina butter sells for 20 gil a piece.
Not cutting even...
# Apr 13 2004 at 1:38 PM Rating: Default
So in accordance to all these responses, does this mean that Selbina Butter and Baked Popoto are not good synth leveling items? Simply because you take such a large amount of loss at the end of it, and they don't even sell well to NPC's given Baked Popoto aren't a hot item at AH at all?

I'm looking for an alternative to make instead of butter and baked potatoes. I know that Apple Juice levels up to 20, and although most would prefer higher MP food items, this at least would help during battles if need be. I'm just wonder at level 11 cooking, what the failure rate is for Apple Juice. I'll try this out at some point.

Leveling cooking should either make some money back, cut even, or at least have some useful items for other things like MP or HP during battles.

Wolfsfable's cooking guide is a wonder all in itself, but the prices of sellback and AH are fluctuating like crazy these days, and I find that a lot of the times I'm losing a lot of money rather than cuteven. Anyone have suggestions on alternatives?

At 11, I used 4 stacks of Faerie Apples (On Watersday) and got 3 bottles of juice... not very good at all.

I went from 16-20 cooking making butter, and if you buy the salt and milk from vendors, you can end up breaking even or even making a profit selling these at the AH (I got my Ice Clusters for ~1K each)...and if not, you could always save the butter for making pie dough...which you could in turn save to make pies....that's a lot of pie O_0

As far as popatos go...I don't think I'm gonna touch them...gotta find something else to take me up to 23 or so, so that I can start making Insect Balls

Lastnight, I just unpacked all my stuff and jetted over to Selbina for the milk, and got whatever is left of the Ice crystal stacks (unfortunately only 4 stacks were available in Windy), and started banging the Butter out. Within every stack of crystals, I get about 3-4 breaks. But level up rate is really fast.

I find that in most if not all the synth guilds, Lightsday always proved to be beneficial for success rates and lvl up rates. Since there's no power order with Light Element (only that of Dark, so I assume Darksday is not such a good synth day unless you use Dark crystals?). Well either way, I went from 11-14 in no more than 2 hours. What with picking up supplies and whatnot inbetween. I'm saving all my butter for other things, since they have an incredibly slow sell rate at AH. I'd might as well just keep them for later uses.

Truth is, Baked Pototo is a slow sell, even slower than Selbina Butter, so it definitely isn't such a good investment for your butter. I think I'll alternate between making butter and Apple Juice in between up till 20. Then pick up something else to get to mid 20's. Hopefully not wasting too much gil on the way.

Few things I noticed while synthing: ALWAYS get Advanced Synth Image Support. The few extra gil to spend on it is completely worth it. You have no idea the benefits. ALSO. I went out of my way to do quests involving Rycharde the Chef in Mhaura and ended up finally with several Cooking Aid items like Tea Set, and Tableware Set, which have been said to help synth success rates. I must say, with the right Elemental Day to synth, Image Support on, and Cooking Aid items, I've had MUCH less breaks and a skill up every 3-5 synths. At one point I got a hefty 0.3 skill up.

4 stacks of Ice got me up from level 11 to 14.

Interesting, I made the HQ synth once while in a 'cooking zone' at about level 20(new moon, lightsday). There had only been 1 sold in Jeuno AH for 1500, and none in any other servers. Nobody could tell me what the stats were for it. I ended up giving it to the paladin in my group, knowing at -least- it'd be VIT+ something, and then he logged out and never came back, so I have no clue what the stats are.

a google search for 'pipin popoto' returns -nothing-. Why is this so rare?

Is it because popotos _suck_ and nobody makes them? Honestly, getting from level 14 to 21 on butter and popotoes I lost more than 17k gil. >_<

here's a 4th confirmation that you won't gain skill on these after lvl 22...not even .1

to answer the other persons quest, they sell back to the guild for 90 gil on Asura...and i doubt you'd be very successful trying to sell them on the AH

most people don't even know what the do

I, as well, didn't get a single increase once I hit 22, I made 2 dozen more under adv image support because I had enough butter left over.

i'm at lvl 20 cooking or so... did a stack of Popoto, lost I think one crystal one butter and one popoto durring synthing, got increase 3 maybe 4 times but only of .o1 and once at .02... but I know they are listed as a lvl 22 cooking skill in my recipe book, that is from this site.
