Everyone says this is great for mage jobs, but it's actually even better for low-level DD jobs who solo /WHM. I've soloed WAR, THF and NIN up to level 37 this way. Here's how:

#1: Try to maximize the total amount of MP you have. If you're rich, get yourself one or two astral rings. Anything to bring your MP pool close to the amount restored by a drink. Being a Mithra, I used RSE gear (+48) a lot when I hit lv. ~ 30.

#2: Get your cooking up to level 25. Juices are great for cooking skill-ups, as you can use them as you level up a job as well. Orange up to level 10, Apple up to level 20, Pineapple up to 30, Melon up to 40 (See a pattern? :) You'll have to do one or two other recipes between gaps to skill up closer. See the cooking recipes.

#3: Get a few inventory quests done, as increased space means you'll be holding more synthesis materials out in the field. See the gobbie bag quests.

#4: Get some MND+ equipment to you swap in & out to maximize Cures' effectiness. The Justice badge quest is free and +3 MND at level 7, for example. You can also buy it for cheap at the auction house. Add more MND until Cure cures for 30, Cure II for 90. Example Cure macro: /equip Neck "Justice Badge", /magic Cure <me>, /wait 8, /equip Neck "Spike Necklace".

#5: Farm water clusters. Pashow marshlands is a good spot for those.

#6: Buy your materials at regional vendors, for Pete's sake.

#7: Go for Easy Prey. You heard me, Easy Prey. Four 25 EXP mobs in a row non-stop are better than a 100 EXP mob that you almost die from and have to rest afterwards. With Easy Prey, you cure yourself in-between fights, pop a juice when your MP is low, and continue. The EXP numbers will seem low but consider that you'll never have to wait for a PT, never die, go AFK when you like, log-in & log-out while in the field and pick up right from where you stopped, and you'll only have to deal with one moron, not five. (^,^)

With Pineapple juice as WAR/WHM, for example, I never stopped, as 15 juices kept me refreshed for a full hour.

I've been using these in the Dunes recently. One of these saved my party the other day. I was a level 12 Rdm with little MP, our Whm had no mp, we took aggro, chug chug, gave me enough MP to main heal the entire fight, and nobody died.

I make these in the field. They're better than most other drinks because they only take up 3 inventory slots of ingredients.

Where should i sell these? Ive got about 40 stacks to get rid of. I already tried selling them in Jueno, but after leaving my bazaar up all night without a single one bought at 500 gil, i dont know what to do. I even tried periodically shouting every once in a while, but that didnt work either :(

If i could make a suggestion? Try selling them in another city, preferably San d'oria or Bastok. Higher level characters (the type that hang around in Jueno)tend to use the yagudo drinks. hope this helps.

It's a pity that people favour the Yagudo drink because by my calculations, for synthers, these work out about the same gil per MP as Yagudo Drinks. Obviously though, non-synthers want the most MP regen they can get per drink because of the staggering amount of space these take up in the backpack.

gil per MP ratio does vary depending upon the price of dark crystals vs water crystals of course.

The main reason I prefer melon juices for my own character is because the materials to produce 12 drinks take up 3 slots rather than 5 slots for Yagudo.

So in the field, I can carry 24 melon juices with 6 slots whereas I can only carry 12 yagudo juice for 6 slots.

If I use 10 slots for drink materials, then I can get 24 Yag juice but then for the same 10 slots I can have 36 melon juice.

As far as slots taken vs MP provided vs gil per MP goes, I see Melon Juice is superior FOR SYNTHER

Its not that Yagudo are better/gil, its just like stated, it takes up a lot of space. So the only people who use melon juice are generally those who can synth it. Who seriously levels a mage job without doing cooking up a bit anyway? Its sooooooo much easier to carry stacks of ingredients.
#REDACTED, Posted: Aug 25 2004 at 5:12 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) >.> it says at the top, 2 MP every 3 seconds for 135 seconds, lol
Ok someone hates math!!
# Jul 25 2004 at 9:58 PM Rating: Decent
It says you get 2mp (2mp not 3mp!!) Thus 135seconds devided by 3seconds = 45
45 seconds x 2mp = 90Mp

You messed up by thinking its 3mp instead of 2mp.

I know this was an old post but its annoying seeing someone get mad at someone else for thier mistake.
dammit

hmmm, just tried these...keep getting a "Synth canceled. That combination of materials cannot be synthesized"

Tried 1, 2, and 4 watermelons...little annoyed..35 cooking btw
Edit: Ok I am a moron...I read "either" 1xthundermelon or 1xwatermelon..I realize now it is one of each

No, it's 40, I leveled from 38 -> 40 on these while lvling my black mage in Kazham's jungles. It's definitely 40.
#Anonymous, Posted: Feb 18 2004 at 1:53 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) omfg... 90 mp recovered.. 2 mp for 3 seconds.. its in the frikkin book.. end of discussion..
2mp/3sec analysis
# Jan 30 2004 at 1:43 AM Rating: Default
This is the summoner drink.
2 Mp for every 3 seconds is like having rdm cast refresh.
Of all the 2 mp per 3 second drinks this has to be the best:
Grape juice costs around the same, but melon lasts longer. Yagudo is not practical. 4 melon juices are equal to 3 yagudo drinks.
a) Item slot wise. 2x4=8 items for melon vs. 4x3 items for yagudo.
b) Yagudo drinks costs around 900 to make where melon takes around 600. 2700 vs. 2400
c) Melon Juice requires the least skill.
umm
# Jan 09 2004 at 3:27 PM Rating: Default
3mp every 3 seconds.. thats like 1mp a second.. so if that is right then it should be 135mp, not 90, umless there is something i am missing..
RE: umm
# Jan 12 2004 at 10:33 AM Rating: Default
That's because it's 2 MP every 3 seconds. The math is right using the wrong numbers o.o;;
#REDACTED, Posted: Jan 14 2004 at 11:30 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) It gives you 90mp and also regens 3mp every 3secs for 135 seconds.
RE: ummmmmmm, yo so dummmmmm!
# Feb 14 2004 at 1:17 PM Rating: Default
LOL! I can't believe you just said that. Do some math ok. 3mp, every 3 secs for 135 = 1mp a sec. So if that was true you would get 135mp. It is not true. You get a totall of 90mp generated over 135 seconds, which is 2mp every 3 seconds. The math is really simple, and yes, I have used these.
RE: ummmmmmm, yo so dummmmmm!
# Mar 02 2004 at 4:50 AM Rating: Default
Take some english.
The person's saying that it ADDS 90 MP, and (separately) REGENS 1 MP per second for 135 seconds. MP adds and MP regens are different things... stupid.
RE: ummmmmmm, yo so dummmmmm!
# Apr 24 2004 at 6:07 AM Rating: Decent
but it *doesn't* add 90 mp....otherwise this would be a very expensive juice O_0

Either way, that person was wrong...
