Repairs...

A Japanese player I talked with after watching him synthesize/repair in on selbina/mhaura ferry said it was repaired with ONLY woodworking, and not alchemy, can someone please confirm this?

Legendary fish off the boat on mhaura-selbina can break this rod. I've watched it broken at least 10-20 times, and repaired again.
Bait?

What kind of bait do you use to catch moat carp?

Worms and lugworms work fine too, though not sure if % of success varies.

Remeber, Worms are for freshwater, and lugworms are for saltwater!...(port sand is a freshwater fishing spot, but balls of insect paste are the best for getting moat carp)

I have this rod....of course, it took me two to three months like you estimated. I'm on Pheonix, and at the time, stacks of 12 cost 900-1000. I would just buy as many as my inventory could hold, without anything equipped on me to keep slots open. I would then dash to Selbina to dump my load of carp, then would go back and buy more. It's soooo many carp that it takes this long and costs a fortune. Lu Shang's rod is totally worht it though! By the time I got it, my fishing skill was at 42...so I always catch something, and it has never broken on me. ^^;

While on a boat ride from Mhaura to Selbina, I witnessed what I thought to be a high level japanese character synthesize/obtain this item...

Right, a broken rod can be repaired with Alchemy skill, but originally it's not a crafted item. I wish it was though...
not correct

Apparently the rod CAN be broken, I've seen the icon for broken lu shang rods in the auction house. They wouldn't be in there si the item doesn't exist, so obviously it CAN break.
how do i "earn" it

Where can I find this item other than the AH?
Fishing quest with two guys, port San d'oria

They are two guys fishing at the san d'oria port zone, on a lil mini dock thing there. A lady stands behind them and mentions it. You choose to help one of them.

It keeps track of how many moat carp you give the guy. It seems to as part of your character file since I left and come back and it still says my total. You give the guy 10,000 moat carp to "earn" that rod.

its whichever guy you started with, the other one won't talk to you after that. The guy you pick matters not.

At 9 fishing now, as a recruit, I don't seem to really pull in the moat carp that much. Also, they sell for 4,000 gil per stack of 12, yet the quest guys only give you 100 gil per moat carp.

So if you sold that amount of moat carp at auction, you'd get 3,332,000 gil, approximately.

You'd get 1,000,000 by just giving the quest guy the moat carp, as well as the rod. So I guess the quest is a better deal.

Haha, I am also on Odin. I was wondering why Nekocat was buying all my fish. And yes, Odin's players will pay 4,000 for stacks of 12.

If anyone cares, I want that fishing rod too. But as a level 25 Thief/Whatever, I realize I am not ready. Sometimes instead of leveling up, I'd rather be an idiot and run around in the extremely dangerous areas. The fisherman out there all all level 70+ JP players with the magic fishing stick. With my sh*tty Mithran fishing stick I only caught things that can kill me in 2 or 3 hits. Thank God for flee!

4,000? Really? I guess it's different on different servers; they sell for exactly 1,200 on my server.

Yeah they are 4000g on Lakshmi also, but of course there's this naked HUME chick (named Clydea) who buys them all.

We see her standing in front of the port San d'Oria Auction House all the time.

how to get
# Nov 17 2003 at 4:35 PM Rating: Default
can this item be bought at the auction house? under which category?
RE: how to get
# Nov 28 2003 at 9:34 PM Rating: Default
EXTREMELY rare to find on auction. It takes about 3 months to earn, and I've only seen 1 sale history for 3.5 mil
RE: how to get
# Dec 10 2003 at 8:16 AM Rating: Default
on bismark there is a history of 1 sale for 2.5 mil in jeuno I believe

there are ALOT of *** players running around with this rod, its a VERY time consuming quest as it takes 10 000 carp to aquire it

this is the Only rod you will ever need especially if you plan on fishing the ledgendary fish

definately a worth while quest but youll have to descide, to level or to fish, and the down side to this is once your around lvl 13 or 14 fishing you wont even get fishing skill while you carp fish
RE: how to get
# Dec 12 2003 at 7:34 AM Rating: Decent
that probabally wont matter much as when i try to fish and try for god knows how long i go through 5 stacks of bait and not got a .01 skill increase :/ am i doing somthing wrong or am i just unlucky lol
RE: how to get
# Dec 12 2003 at 8:48 AM Rating: Default
Fishing skill raises kinda weird. For me anyway. I can fish for like an hour and not get a single skill point and then all of a sudden I'l get a few pints in a row almost. Another weird thing is that I sometime get skill points when I lose a catch. I think I'm gonna wait till later on to get the 10K moat carp when Money come more easily to me. This way I can just buy them at the AH like all of the other high lvl people are doing LOL.
RE: how to get
# Jan 13 2004 at 1:08 PM Rating: Default
The best way to get your skill up is to get a composite rod and a minnow and just go fish for big fish. It dosn't matter that you can't catch them. As long as they hook on to your bait u get xp, and if its a very high lvl fish you will get lots of fishing xp even though you don't pull it out.
