wat is the best fish to catch and wat rod and/or lure/bair wil i need to catch him and whom do i sell it to make the best amount of profit? a NPC or at AH if a NPC which one? and were may i find him? and which rod is the best rod that will rarely break and best lure? overall. this is important to me
#REDACTED, Posted: Jun 30 2004 at 4:37 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I dont see whats so special bout this rod. It does break sooo....any difrent from others of course, maybe it lasts longer but is it worth doing the mission and the amount of money for a fishing rod thats the same as a composite, i think not.

One relatively large advantage of this rod is that on one hand it's the strongest rod in the game, and on the other hand it can catch small fish as well.

While if you used any of the other big fish rods for small fish you'd get alot of messages that the fish you hooked was too small for the rod.

Usefull if you're targeting small fish in a place where some big fish or items might break small fish rods.

You can't lose it through a failed synth but you can still lose it if you zone (like on the ferry) while repairing it.

I would think it's both, but I'm not sure.

What i would really like is for somebody to put a decently priced broken Lu Shangs in the AH :D i would buy that right away.. lol only about 60 more woodworking lvls to repair it.. i honestly don't think its a good investment until you have the ability to repair the rod on your own. So for now i would say keep turning the fish you catch in but dont actually pay for moat carp until you have the ability to repair the rod on your own.. thats my opinion on the subject anyways.. hope that helps..

Full fishing gear
Level 42 fishing skill.
Mithran / Composite / Carbon rods

My question is fairly simple; is this fishing rod worth getting and why? I've seen this question asked before and the reply is almost always "Yes". That answer doesn't mean much as it does not specify why. On Shiva moat carp sell steady at 4,000 per stack. I currently have 42 in fishing and have been fishing in Rabao for moat carp and some skillups. Thus far I have turned in 844 moat carp towards the quest (about a week of solid fishing with carbon rod and insect paste in Rabao.) Would it be worth it for me to spend all the money I have to buy moat carp and turn them in or would it be a better investment to continue to only catch them? In what way does the Lu Shang's rod increase the amount of money I can pull in at a given time?
RE: Is it worth it?
# Jul 06 2004 at 4:15 PM Rating: Decent
Is this quest worth it? I don't believe so (preface that with the knowledge that I can make 4k a stack of moat carp, all day long and that you can find a Lu Shang's for 1 mil on some server).

10,000 * 100 = 1 million gil + Lu Shangs = 2 mil Lu Shang's Rod (assuming you can actually find one up for sale).

But...at 4000/12 = 333.33 gil per moat carp.

10,000 * 333.33 = 3.33 mil gil.

You do the rest of the math =P

-Tweed

P.S. Rate down fine, give me a reason this math doesn't work out?

First of all, you are not taking into account the money you get for turning them in. That lowers the cost to 2.4 mil. Lushang rods go for 4 mil on Siren.

Also, on Marrissa's fishing site there is an experiment where a level 100 fisherman fished a certain number of hours (nearly 50 i think) in rabao using 1. a carbon rod 2. a lushang rod without the key item you get from completing the quest and 3. a lushang rod with the key item. These were all done during exactly the same conditions, i.e. moon phases. They ranked 3,2,1 with as much distance between 3 and 2 as there was between 2 and 1. This seems to indicate that both the lushang and the key item: testimonial increase bite rate. Calculate that kind of extra bite rate over the next 500 hours of fishing and see how the math plays out. . . .
RE: Is it worth it?
# Aug 14 2004 at 5:18 AM Rating: Decent
Ok here's the rest of the math...

Lu Shang's + Fishing = 20-60k gil an hour * x hours a day * 7 days a week * 52 weeks a year * you still want to be richer * you can already afford 10 scorpion harnesses +1 * why settle for less than max gil = You bought jeuno and renamed it "I did the math"...

I'm on the boat hunting Phantoms and Pirates, and there was a RDM taru synthisizing this rod. He started to fish then I hear him break the rod. Minute later he sits down and again creates another Lu Shang's Fishing Rod. Back to fishing and breaks it again. The entire time I was on the boat, he created 3 rods.

I seen the same taru in Kuftal Tunnel, and again breaking and synthisizing Lu Shang's Fishing Rod.

What you saw that player doing was actually a repair. When the rod breaks, you get a "Broken Lu Shang's fishing rod".

Any broken rod in a light crystal, with the appropriate level of craft skill, can be restored to a fully functional fishing rod. It's not like this rod can be crafted, just repaired from a broken rod :)

Lu Shang's Rod Breaking
# Apr 09 2004 at 2:12 PM Rating: Default
Ok, Confirmed NPC in Rabao, fixes Lu Shang's for 1 Ancient Lumber and 2 light crystals. @ fishing lvl 60 when I started and got up to 62 in 2 1/2 hours... which for me is unheard of. I got 3.3 skill ups but broke my rod 4 times. I was attempting to fish for Titanticus, for a lvl 75 person I know.

He gave me a stack of Ancient lumber, which cost around 80k! So this form of leveling however fast would not be profitable.

I will start to level my Woodworking so I can rapair it myself, he said I would not lose Lu Shang's if I try to repair it, but I'd like to see a couple more confirmations. Cause, I did see people saying it can be lost.

Probably from ppl who have no idea, Aye it did take 3 months to get and I twitch when I see a moat carp.

It is NOT possiable to lose a fishing rod while synthing, I personally have only 21 woodworking, but I've been working with yew rods for a bit... it is very common to lose light crystals, however not once have I lost a rod.

Altough remember if you try to do a repair on a Lushang's rod with less then 34-45 wood working, you will probally get a "your skill is too low to snyth that" message

If you try to repair a broken rod, and the synthesis fails.... is it possible to lose the broken rod completely?

I would NOT sit through fishing 10,000 fish for a rod, to only break a rod and lose it forever through a failed repair synthesis... if that were the case.

Yes if your woodworking is low enough you WILL lose it. I've seen it happen. If your woodworking is below 50 you will have a slight chance of losing it, above 50 your chance of losing it will be extremly low(Like the chance of getting 10 critical hits in a row at lvl 1 without using WAR 2H) and above 80 you can't lose it.

Best thing to do is get another char to woodworking 80 (You can do it with the char with fishing but if your other crafts collectivly have more than 21 over 60 skill than you can't get it) or to a friend with woodworking 80 and give them a nice little payoff. Better than doing the quest over again.
RE: possibly...

Poles cannot be lost from a failed synthesis. Furthermore, gaining levels in fishing doesn't count towards the 40 skill points allotted for post-60 crafting.

I really don't get it... anyone actually think the cost is worth getting this?

10,000 moat carp. even if you fish all of them yourself your missing about 3k-4k per stack if you sold them on the AH instead.

we will use 3k for our calculations, since thats the MINIMUM I could buy/sell a stack for on my server at the AH.

10,000 carp / 12 carps in stack = 833.33 stacks.
833.33 stacks * 3k if sold each on AH = 2,500,000

EDIT: slight math error, you get 100 gil back when you turn in the fish, so 100 gil*10,000 carps = 1,000,000. So really the Rod only costs 1.5 million gil

I'd still take the gil over the Rod though ;)

RE: wtf?
# Mar 24 2004 at 6:40 AM Rating: Decent
Exactly. The only people that are buying the moat carps are the people going for the Lu Shang fishing rod... and it must be worth it if that many people go for it. I'm personally halfway through the quest... with needing a little over 400 more stacks, and can't wait for it. I know for a fact i can make up all the lost millions in a couple of weeks once i get the rod.

oh no you won't. there's not much difference than mithran or composite. I have a lu shang. You just catch a little more but that's it. or maybe i'm fishing in the wrong areas cuz i'm not making millions of gil.

I think it's well worth it in the long run I tried fishing Bastore Bream before having Lu Shangs and made better money fishing moat carp. After Lu Shangs I make same money and still skilling up.

Higher my skill the more money in long run. I have a hefty spending habbit that the lu shang's rod helps me keep.

# May 25 2004 at 1:07 PM Rating: Decent
Lu Shang wont automatically turn you into L33T FISHERZMAN, but it will increase you luck with fishing. People who have been playing this game a long time and have gil to throw away will gladly fork it over for even such a small bonus as this.

So much bad information, so little time.

This rod CAN NOT be crafted from scratch (or at least this is what 13 Japanese players with Lu Shang's have told me, 1 of which had level 100 Woodworking). The recipe posted in question is the recipe for a Mithran rod, NOT Lu Shang's Rod.

This rod does break, however, and can be repaired. Any time that you see someone synthesize a Lu Shang's Rod, it is them REPAIRING a broken rod, not crafting a new one.

Finally, this is a WOODEN rod. It is repaired by Woodworking, NOT Alchemy (approximately level 80 Woodworking is required for repair).

He synthed about 3 of them. failed ONCE but all he lost was a clothespole. and of course wouldnt say how it was done. but the point is its not just repair. and mindless scholar, just cause its for repair doesnt mean its 0 skill. ill bet its ~80+ to repair or make this rod, if you look through woodworking and alchemy skill ou see that at the lvl you can make the different rods is the same at which you can craft them. So its logical to assume its the same for this.

Hi, all! I have been fishing since the us version released. My fishing lvl is now 61(my job lvl is only 30T_T). From all i know, Lu Shang rod can only get from the quest. It can not be crafted but repair with light crystal. For fixing this rod, u need over lvl56 woodwooking, but 56 is really the lowest requirement. If you dont want to lose the rod(i'm sure no one would ever what to lose it) , you have to have over lvl80 skill for woodwooking(over 95% successful).
All these information was given by my japanese LS members. they both have lu shang rods, and their fishing lvls are 97 and 96. So the information given should be valid.

Wrong! This rod is obtained by completing the moat carp quest in Port Sandoria. That means trading 10000 moat carp. You can purchase it at the AH I believe, including the broken rod.

What you are seeing on the boat is people repairing the broken rod. In that sense, it is a synthesis, but regardless, the input material is still the quest item.

I guess I forgot to metion he said 80+ skill, I'm not worried about what skill level it takes, just which skill, Alchemy or Woodworking.

So from what he told me it would seem it's Woodworking, would be nice if someone could confirm, or at the very least not post it's alchemy when they have no clue really.

I spoke with a high level JP and they said that all that is required is a Light crystal. The rod IS BREAKABLE. I would assume that it requires zero ranks in Woodworking, and the formula is a Broken Lu Shang Rod + Light crystal. The hard part being the broken rod :-)
