I think these sell for more if you trade them to NPCs than at the AH

After having slowly trained alchemy for a few weeks (or rather, picked back up on it), I've become convinced of the purpose of treant bulbs.

Treant bulbs exist 1% for the Gourmet quest, and 99% to keep alchemists sane. Why? Well, the Water Crystal + 2x Treant Bulb = Vitriol synthesis can get you 12 levels (if you have image support). 30 to 42. And since these bulbs have no other purpose other than this synthesis (and that quest), they're cheap as dirt (and look like dirt, too).

Anyway, I'm sure you're wondering why I said "keep alchemists sane." Short answer is this: Go try to get alchemy to level 42 with 50k gil starting money. It's not physically possible. Levels 20-30 can cost about 1000 gil per successful synthesis, 3000 gil per failed synthesis. This translates into about 25,000 gil per level. 250,000 gil overall. Now, of course, that's not entirely accurate. You can synthesize things like Glass Fiber Fishing rods for a loss of only 200 gil per success, 2500 gil per failure. But that is based on the supply of broken rods, or the availability of glass fiber and cotton thread.

Anyway, point is, an alchemist is thinking "God help me, I quit!" at level 22 or 23 until he sees that Vitriol synthesis, in all its beautiful glory, shining brightly on the horizon.

For the record, I'm level 23.8 Alchemy at the time of posting. ; ;

I've been gardening for a while, and I haven't been able to grow these things yet, but I have only been using brass and ceraminc flower pots, so maybe I need to invest in one of those 50,000gil flower pots to be able to grow these guys :P

2 x treant bulbs with a water crystal gives me the error that the formula is beyond my current skill level (0, at the moment), while trying them with any other crystal tells me that the combination of materials can't be synthesized. So 2 and a water creates something, I'd assume.

Anyone know what the product of this combination is? Anyone with a higher skill in alchemy care to try it?

I know this post is hardly informative, but I was curious. =)

I read here that 1 water crystal and 2x treant bulbs makes Vitriol, and is about alchemy level 30.
Wandering Treant Bulb
# Dec 04 2003 at 5:35 PM Rating: Default
In the AH under other and misc., there's a special kind of treant bulb called the Wandering Treant Bulb or something (supposedly the bulb of a famous missing treant.) The AH in San d'Oria has only ever sold 3 of these things, and they go from 30,000-50,000 gil per! I thought the wandering saplings in Jugner might drop this obviously rare item if I killed a lot of em, but so far no luck. It most likely drops off a notorious monster (are there really super sapling mobs out there?! I'd have a hard time taking such a thing seriously.) Anyone know where I can get one?

It is not under Other > Misc, it is under Materials > Alchemy.

Thought this would help.

Hmm... my own pet sapling.
I've got 5 of these, I could have a sapling army!

I get these from the saplings in La Thiene Plateau as well. Guess I'll sell 'em off.

Various saplings drop these in Gustaberg (North and South) and Konschtat Highlands.

Lexibillion, you don't want a sapling infestation in your mog house, do you? :)
