# Apr 26 2006 at 9:15 AM Rating: Decent
Hello all,

I am trying to lvl alchemy as well, I am @ (0) and wondering if I can skip the very complicated Distilled Water recipie and go straight to synthing Antidotes....seems much easier to me to just buy the Distilled Water...please excuse if I ask stupid question...8^)

always try to aim for cheap, 2-3lvl higher lvl in a craft, since ur 0, 3 lvls = these, so yes, so do these to 2, or go to 3, then beeswax, but ur gonna wanna farm the chips, i think, but im on seraph, 10k pet chip stack wax=23k, so id lose gil, but not gonna do that.. anyway, ust saying, DO THESE

Profit
# Nov 09 2005 at 4:21 PM Rating: Decent
Good profit for a low level synth, prices on Syplh meant I gained just over 1.5k profit per stack.

Prices I had were:

Grapes x 12 = 2000
Crystals x 12 = 1000
Water x 12 = 132
Wijnruit = 1300

Total 4432
Selling Price = 6000

Anyone got a guide for leveling alchemy?
# Mar 31 2005 at 7:27 PM Rating: Decent
I'm trying to level Alchemy and I'm getting teeny skill-ups as a level 1 making Black Ink. Does anyone have a guide for leveling it? Please email it to me at erikusanisme at juno.com. And that's JUNO, not Jeuno. ^_^

There are several good guides here on Allakhazam.

Look in the Trade Skill Forum. One of the Stickies has guides for leveling all the crafts.
Good Uses
# Mar 07 2005 at 1:34 PM Rating: Decent
I think this item is most useful for leveling early characters. I dont know how many times i died after defeating crawlers because of thier poison. Other than that i dont really see any use for this item.
RE: Good Uses
# May 13 2005 at 6:43 AM Rating: Decent
The most common use for antidotes are BCNM, HNM, ENM, God, and Promyvion fights. Not typically used in a party situation.

Well it's interesting to see how adamant you are that this item is worthless even though this is your first post here and your level isn't high enough to see many of the uses for it. Not flaming, but it's good to keep an open mind when you still have the vast majority of the game to experience. (hell even I still have much much to see)

Here ya go... if you are a mage (or PLD that needs to rest for mp) and right before the end of the fight your mob does an AoE Poison on you. Your WHM should have Poisona, but WHMs take forever to cast anything, and they have long cooldown periods between spells (no Fast Cast). It's much better for the pt (opportunity to chain) if the WHM does poisona on one of the players, and others that are poisoned that need to rest pop an Antidote. That way they can start their healing right away instead of waiting for the WHM to get to them - which just ends up meaning that the WHM has even more time to rest to fill MP, making it harder to hit that next chain.

The sooner you can begin resting after a fight, the sooner you can begin the next one = more chances to Chain, and more XP / hour.

Sounds like an excellent investment to me.

Mindwalker is absolutely right. I am a WHM who has done several BCNM and I always tell my friends to bring a couple of these especially against NMs known for Poisoning. It's simply a waste of time and mp for the WHM to use Poisona when a tank can use this item quicker.

They may not be as useful in a PT, but for no more than 300 gil ea. it can't hurt to keep one or two on hand.

Very true. I keep a stack of these and a stack of echo drops on me at all times. They have saved my rear end on several occasions. and they are pretty cheap to boot. Even cheaper if you have an Alchemist buddy.

You can get the water crystals from water elementals like in La Theine and Pashhow Marshlands.
You can get the distilled water by taking a stack or 2 of lightning crystals (from thunder elementals) to Tahrongi Canyon and making the water from 1xlightning crystal and 1xtahrongi cactus. Just activate the quest, take a stack or 2 up there, and keep synthing. You can only hold 1 cactus at a time.
San d'Orian grapes you can grow (with Fruit Seeds which you can get off saplings) in your Mog House.
Wijnruit can be harvested from West Sarutabaruta and Giddeus with sickles.
There's a way to get all your items for cheaper then buying them all. Just thought it would help some ppl :)

Complete Total To Synth a Stack
# Oct 08 2004 at 9:56 AM Rating: Good
Ok guys. i worked out the complete cost to synth a stack of this stuff. I confirmed prices of all the synth items and their locations.

Distilled Water= 15G @ metalworks restaurant in bastok

San'doria Grapes= 75G @ vendor in Sandy.

Water Crystals= 400G approx on Unicorn.

Wijnruit= 200G each @ Upper Jeuno grocers.

If you total all this stuff. A stack of Antidotes costs 3860G to synth. Now if you look at the prices in the AH its about 4k for a stack of antidotes. Very small profit gain. Looks good when you first look at the recipe, but once you add it up, not worth your while unless your using them for skillups. If you've got a WHM in your party, you really don't need them, so it's not an extremely hot AH item. Hope this helps ^_^

Since it's a starting level synth, you might just try gathering some ingredients during your travels. Water elementals tend to be common in areas like La Theine and Pashhow, which is half the cost right there. For the Wijnruit, check the Derfland region vendor (for whoever won it that week). With good fame in the city, you might be looking at 120-140. If you're lucky, it will be Sandy that won that week and get it at the same time with the grapes.

Even with a WHM in your party, these are nice if you spend time in Crawler's Nest where they have this wonderful AoE poison attack. Also nice for those first few levels before WHMs can cast Poisona. Hope this helps too. ^_^

love the antidotes
# Sep 27 2004 at 7:39 AM Rating: Decent
id just like to say these are probly the best to skill up on, and make most of your gil back..
not to sure of prices.. but water crystals are 400 a stack, the plant and the grapes were 2000 each, and the water was 400... 4400 total, and the antidotes sell for 4000 a stack.
i only failed once at lv1 alchemy ^^
Question

Is it possible to make this with no skill level for Alchemy? I don't want to take the time to lvl it up with that damn cactus...-_-

There's certain spots in West Sarutabaruta, and Giddous that you can harvest Winjruit. You use a sickle, not a hatchet, and you can also get stuff like moko grass, and Saruta Cotton Balls. Unfortuantly, my knowledge is limited to Windurst and the surrounding areas.
re different from the guidebook
# Nov 21 2003 at 3:45 AM Rating: Default
Yep, it's winjruit. I tried the papaka grass combo, didn't work :) Winjruit though...well, I have 11 antidotes in my inventory now.

How do you get Wijnruit? Is it grown with gardening, harvested, mob drop or is it available in a shop?

I don't know about the rest of you, but I am all for saving time and money, and harvesting this plant doesn't seem to equal it's cost. This is a Derfland commodity, which ever city owns Derfland gets to buy this plant for 120, you just have to find the vendor. Personally I mark all vendors on my map when i speak with them.

Guide book right
# Nov 15 2003 at 12:37 PM Rating: Decent
Someone wrote an alchemy guide and posted it on all the popular FFXI sites with that formula being wrong. The guide book is correct you need Wijnruit and not Papaka Grass. Have successfully made many potions using the Winjruit.
yes

papaka grass didn't work for me, only wijnruit
different than guide book
# Nov 14 2003 at 2:07 PM Rating: Decent
Guide book that just came out has winjruit not papaka grass. Has anyone tried this combo yet?
