Gold sheet is GS 54, so that should be the correct level to plug in for the secondary recipe (lvl 57). And for the level 59 one, to cut expenses somewhat, if you get your smithing up to the mid 50's before you do this, you can desynth backplates at very little cost for the darksteel sheets (or ingots and craft the sheets...). Good luck all.
till what level should i keep this?

Keep it til' 52, then switch to Gaia Doublet (DEF:35 VIT+4 [Earth]+10). Some might say Parade Cuirass is better if you can get that, but I'd really only swap that in for vokes and Flash, for the Enmity+2. I'd also say the VIT+4 on the Gaia Doublet makes it better than Iron Musketeer's Cuirass or Royal Knight's Chainmail, for PLD. Best to keep it until level 60, when you can use the AF body.

Should i buy this when i get to lvl 45 or should i stick with royal squires until 50 so i can get I.M?

The brigandine has very good stats for a lvl45 paladin till he hits 50 and can wear I.M cuirass. First of all, it gives +2 vit which is crucial for that job. Secondly, it gives +2 dex so PLD's can hit more and keep the hate. Last, it gives +10 HP which is okay I guess. I'm a lvl45 PLD and i'm going to use this till lvl50. And btw, it cost me 13k on the Titan server

Hell yeah this is good armor for a PLD. I've been waiting to equip this for weeks now, and i finally had a good party so i made the level (47PLD now). I even kept the thing in my inventory when i wasn't in a party just in case i got enough exp farming. This goes for 30k in Jeuno on Siren btw.

brigandine gear
# Jul 13 2005 at 5:50 AM Rating: Decent
i gotta say for its price (around 10-13k on cerberus last i checked)
this is a really sweet piece of gear. Cant wait to get my drg to 45 so i can wear this.

and even though it looks like a checker board, and most people seem to hate the way it looks, i still think it looks pretty good

also as a side note (please dont rate me down for this lol")
In an earlier post i saw that someone said it used to show the wearer's emblem, back in the middle ages. So what about if, in the update they make this piece of armour so that it shows your nations emblem?? Just like a little novelty i thought.

I am a PLD45 and I absolutely HATE what the Brigandine armor looks like. But it has better stats that the Breast plate so I use it. It's armor...it's there to keep you from getting killed...just because it doesn't look good doesn't mean you shouldn't get it...the VIT boost is a must for a PLD. Besides...if you don't like the way it looks just think of it as a tool to bring you up to the required lvl to use the Iron Musketeer's Cuirass or the Galant Surcoat.

the brig may be considered a leather set, but no one is bothered by the fact that it's just a discolored doublet? granted the color change is welcome, after a doublet from 11-45 (normal, cotton, then mrc. capt.) but the shape is EXACTLY THE SAME.

just bothers me is all, 'cause doublets make elvaan guys look fat :/

I dont really see the problem, the model is very true to the acctual peice of armor. A brigandine is a type of body armor made of over-laped iron plates that are evenly and closely spaced in a chainmail. The chainmail is covered with leather, and directly over that a velvet shirt and a surcoat to show the wearers emblem and to protect the velvet.

Basically, it looks on the outside like a doublet. Brigandine is known for being very light-weight, it was invented in the later half of the middle ages. The only downside to this armor was that it was tremendously more expensive than plate mail.

If you have 2 things that look almost the same... and you do in real life....

Are you going to go to the mall and criticize everyone there because there all wearing T-shirts?? Sure, they have different logos and crap on them, but there all the same shape. OMG YOU HAVE A T-SHIRT AND ITS THE SAME MODEL AS THAT T-SHIRT.

Not to mention, the reasons for recycling models are obvious from a technical standpoint.

1. It takes a lot less time to make new skins and not entirely new models.
2. It takes up a lot less space on your hard drive if you dont have a different model for every peice of gear.
3. It darastically reduces the slowdown on your computer. If there are 20 people in a doublet, 5 people in brigandine, the computer is just creating instances of the model, so where its only processing one model, its creating 25 instances of the model and applying the various skins, reducing the neccesary processing power for those peices of armor. Thats the same reason they left out things like earrings and capes etc. the slowdown in packed areas would be horrific.

This armor makes every race look fat. . . it adds an extra bit of beer belly.

I've worn it since I could, and it is nice armor - but gawd I can't wait til my Black Cote at lvl59.

Also, once you hit 45, youll see every melee-type in this, so it gets a bit boring.

RE: briga
# May 06 2005 at 3:57 PM Rating: Decent
actually, most melee do wear this =x RNG never should well.. dex vit and HP are useless to them, plain and simple. I wore this as PLD, it did well or its level and it was good for about 2-3 ^^ sure not -ever- melee uses it but those who can should, not much better to get at that level - and THF WAR DRK BST SAM and DRG can all use this effectively (yay DEX!)
What about PLD?

Judging from the stats, the armor looks good for PLD at lvl 45. Why don't I see any PLDs wearing it then? I'm lvl 44 now and I wear Breastplate +1 but this armor would be much better at 45, should I switch over to it when I reach 45?
BTW I'm Elvaan...

it looks better than my af tabard anyway. rdm af tabard and a valk mask makes me wanna beat MYSELF up. so i still wear this around town or whenever doing any not dangerous fighting. looks count. hopefully the hat will go better with it.

I like wearing it (hence the picture)

It's very good for Thieves because it adds another 2 DEX. I haven't been able to fin a good replacement for body armor till i get my AF

PS. The pic features some beating of innocent civilians, and if you know your FFXI hardcore you would know that the specific NPC here says he can beat anyone up. Hence, the fistfight began.

Um, what else would a Dark Knight wear? I wore this to 50 and almost every party I had had 3 people with Brigadines lol. Its a very good, cheap peice of equipment. It doesn't look -that- bad I think. But I much prefer Iron Musketeers or Mythril when you reach 49-50 :P.

EDIT: Eh, this is in the wrong place, oh well. :\

RE: nice
# Feb 17 2005 at 6:11 PM Rating: Decent
No. Jujitsu Gi is your best choice with a lvl 45 SAM. As a SAM you should focus on Accuracy>>STR>>DEX>>AGI. That great katana has a long delay so you need as much accuracy as possible. Same goes for DRK using scythes. But if you're tanking, for some reason on some occasions, than go with Brigadine.

i love doublets, on my hume female, it's the 2nd sexiest piece of equipment i can wear. leather-type armors like Tiger set and Assault Jerkin come first, since they're body-hugging and skin-tight ^^

RE: Hmm...

Monks cannot wear leather class armor and above. They are limited to Harness and below. That is why Samurai and Ninja can equip but Monks cannot.
