i think that these are out dated by the Mycophile Cuffs MND+2 INT+1 Enimity -2, WHM/BLM/SMN, although RDM can't use it, so for those die hard geared folks, INT+1 [Red]<All Right!>[Navy][/Navy]

This quest pre-50 = (Incredibly Tough)
# Jul 03 2005 at 7:28 PM Rating: Excellent
Ok, if you are like me. You are an rdm who likes to get his grubby mitts on every piece of int/mnd/mp+ gear out there. Within reason of course. So you do your homework, and look at what is available for each EQ slot. Then determine if the gear is affordable, and/or obtainable.

Eventually you'll get to the hand slot. I am hume so my RSE gloves are great for a melee boost. I have the Devotee's Mitts which are great for my cures and mnd based enfeebles. But what about INT? There really isn't a great piece of hand gear that adds an exceptional amount of int until RSE2.

There's the Garrison gloves, which are up to 150k on my server. Mage's Mitts @ 50. But then I came across these. Lv.45 and only obtainable through quest. Cool! How hard is the quest?

Well to a 48 rdm, this quest is extremly difficult. You have to pull DC-T Orc Troopers to a safe spot, and kill it before it kills you, or a buddy joins in. Not mention he is a pld type mob with a lot of HP, and a lot of VIT. This quest took me 4 tries before I finally got it done.

Attempt #1
Arrived at (F-7) in davoi and found a Trooper right in the middle of a crowd of DC orcs. Pulling was a no-go. But not for the level 75 rdm who could pull them with ease at that level. I could not figure out why an rdm at his level would be hunting these things. So I had to wait around for the right time to pull, and nab a trooper before the rdm did. I finally did, battle was extremly long, and no Drop 100 exp gained and the Davoi Chest Key. After another long wait, finally pulled another one but with a link. So I warped outta there.

Attempt #2.
Same as #1 except a 60ish thf/nin has joined in the fun. Found a chest though, and used my key and got an Electrum ring. After awhile I managed to get one, and a Bowshooter decided to join in almost as I had the trooper killed. I already used convert on this fight, and mp was running low. So I slept both of them, and warped my butt out of there.

Attempt #3
Frustrated, and tired from walking to Davoi over and over again, as chocobo's were 1300 a pop at this time. I go back. Rdm and thf still there killing away. I angrily, and foolishly pull the next Trooper I see, in hopes the compitition will save my butt from links. I pulled one link free, but was having trouble killing this one. It was a T, I forgot to check it, and now I'm going to get owned. Well the thf came by and helped me kill it. No exp gained, no drop. Killed another DC trooper solo. 72 exp gained, no drop. A get a tell from a friend of mine who is a 66 Pld. I ask him if he wants to help, and he agree's. While waiting for him, I pulled another EM orc, and an EM Orcish Gladiator joined in and kept interupting me when I tried to sleep it. Almost dead, I finally get both of them slept. Convert is down, and I'm low on hp and mp. My friend just zoned into Davoi as I warped.

Attempt #4
I changed my sub to thf before leaving and Chocobo'd this time to get back ASAP since my friend was waiting. I get there and he is already engaged with a Trooper. Him and I kill it no drop. Competition at this time was none. They all left... figures. Plenty of troopers now, and the pld is pulling em at will. After 5 more kills we finally get the drop, and a scroll of Flash. He passed on both items, and I used a scroll of instant warp to get home.

So now I own a pair of these gloves. I don't see too many rdm's my level wearing these even though they'd like to. So hell yeah, I kinda have a uniqueness to my wardrobe now. So in the end I sold the Electrum ring for 15k cause I already own 2. Sold the scroll of Flash for 4k, plus the gil awarded for completing the quest, and the gloves. Not bad, but a huge pain in the ***.

If you want to solo for these gloves at level 45, I wish you all the luck in the world. At level 48, this was one of the most difficult quests I have done to date solo, and I have done some toughy's. Soloing this mob is difficult as it is, but doable. The problem is the links, and the apparent competition.

According to your above post, all red mages try to get their hands on INT/MND gear, but with my RSE gloves (http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?fitem=371) I get the MP boost and +2 Mind and +4 Vitality, which yes the vitality helps when a monster just wants to play "whack the mithra," but do you honestly think I should change to these, or keep my RSE's? Any opinions and/or information would be much appreciated.

Your RSE gloves are very good. I neglected to mention in my post that I am hume, and my RSE gloves really just gives a melee boost to stats. However, both our RSE gloves do not provide any additition to INT. So these are attractive to use for swapping.

The thing is, these gloves have the big'ol "exclusive" tag slapped on them. So the quest my not be worth the mesly +1 bonus to INT.

What truly makes these gloves worth getting is the fact that they're earned. And having them seperates you from the rest of the rdm's around your level. You could always have a high level come and kill the mob for you, which takes away the earned part. But if you go down and solo the mob and kill it, give yourself a pat on the back with, or without your intended drop. This IMO, preserves your right to say you earned it.

The Troopers that spawn in Davoi con tough to a level 45 RDM. At level 48 they read DC through tough. They DC and EM ones can be solod by 48 RDM/DRK with ease. Find a spot where there are troopers nearby and where you wont get agro.F7 worked well. Pull them from the clearing to the path.(I found a time when there were few people hunting them,so there were plenty around) Buff yourself including haste and aquaveil and use a fish cheifkabob.I allways choose ice spikes over blaze spikes because it can paralyze the enemy. I had a def of almost 300 with protect III and the food, and +5 VIT along with Phalanx so the damage was 0-10 per hit. (the first time I tried it,I forgot the food and it was a hard fight, the next couple times,it was easy with the food) As per standard RDM solo doctrine, keep your refresh up at all times. Go for defense, vit and dex in your armor (str isnt bad either). Remember, this is solo play, not party play so you want your armor to protect you. Dont worry to much about extra mp unless your a galka or elvaan, refresh will take care of it. Now pull troppers one by one to your safe spot. Start swinging then hit them with silence and all your enfeeble spells, then aspir them. Also hit them with poison II if you have it and perhaps a nuke or II if you feel you need to up your damage. Remember your a rdm,not a blm. Rely on your sword to do most of your damage. Your spells are there to keep you strong, and the enemy weak. Only use direct damage spells to tip the balance if things are going badly and you cant put out enough damage. Another helpfull hint I find is to allways carry a bottle of melon juice or yagudo drink. If you ***** up and let your mp drop below 40,refresh WILL wear off when you have 39 mp.

My equipment was as follows (Im a Hume BTW)
Knights Sword +1 (macro swapped with hermits wand when casting stoneskin)
Balance Buckler
Composite Bow +1
Scorpion Arrows
Steel Visor +1
Holy Phial
Killer Earring
Black Earring
Brigendine Armor
Bastokan Gloves
2 Electrum Rings
Red Cape
Druids Belt
Magic Cuisses
Bastokan Greives

Food: Meat Cheifkabobs
Melon Juice

Yes, you could say it's because it's part of a doublet set, but in reality, this is how we red mages get back at you for not getting seers gear...Muahahahahahahaah

not really, judging from the jobs listed/picture, it's a part of the doublet set.

Is it possible that these also improve mining/logging? I'm just guessing because of naming.

Field Gloves -> Workers Gloves -> Engineer's Gloves

If so an engineer's set (if it exist) would allow high level people to log more safely in very dangerous areas.

Edit : Excellent point anon, if this was an harvesting item, it would probably be available for all classes. I'll confirm this if I get a chance, but this is probably not a +mining/logging item/

#REDACTED, Posted: Apr 15 2004 at 8:07 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) IF YOU LOOK AT THE ITEM DESCRIPTION ITS JUST ARMOR NOT FOR ANY TYPE OF "HARVESTING" APPLICATION. THOUGH A HIGHER SET OF HARVESTING GEAR WOULD BE NICE, I WOULD THINK FOR THIS TYPE THOUGH WOULD BE CALLED LIKE LUMBERJACKS OR SOMETHING TO THAT EFFECT WOULD BE A BETTER FITTING NAME IF/WHEN A HIGHER SET IS IMPLEMENTED

I THINK THAT TUNING OFF CAPS LOCK WOULD BE A GOOD THING.
