Scimitar issued to Combat Casters
# Jun 23 2008 at 7:05 PM Rating: Decent
Windurstians who have achieved the rank of Combat Caster are issued this accurate yet damaging Scimitar.
Blu's can use this
# Oct 27 2006 at 11:42 AM Rating: Decent
at the time of writing it says this sword can only be used by WAR/THF/DRK/SAM (27 oct) just to say that BLUE MAGES can now use this sword...

Attn:Thieves.

Swords suck once you hit 33. Ridill is the ONLY exception. +stats on a sword will in no way make up for the fact that your skill with swords is crap. Both because of the higher delay and the misses you'll get tp slower.

im a 41 thf using corrosive dagger, which argue all you want but I consider much better than fed kukri. anyways, i think im gonna use this as my sub weapon after i go and get Maurauder's Knife. Great Atk and acc bonuses on this bad boy.

for mithra thf/nin who focus on attack gear, this is the sword for you. hitting away with this weapon and its significantly higher damage, accuracy gain, and attack boost make it a rival alternative to the mithra scimitar. of course +3 dex is great too.
Better?

Is this better than the Mithran Scimitar if you were THF/NIN?
RE: Better?

I'm currently a 34 mithran thf/nin and I've been using dual mithran scimitars since level 28 when I could equip them. I intend to switch to the combat caster scimitars when I hit 40 next week, so I'll have a very accurate picture of which is better. I think, though, that doing 1/3 again dmg over the mithran scimitars, that it will be a good improvement. The +6 dex bonus for dual-wielding mithran scimitars is very nice, but the attack and accuracy bonuses on the combat casters will even it out a bit. I'm finding my mithran scimitars at level 34 after eating meat cheifkabobs only do between 4-10 damage on IT high defs with about 150-200 dmg for a SATA flat blade and 100-120 on a normal SATA. (Take into consideration I also have +3 strength due to gear). By level 40 I think my mithran scimitars will only be hitting for 0-5 dmg because of the lower dmg rating...

While I'm sure my general rule may change once I'm in full AF and over level 60, I've typically found that it's okay to let your equipment get about 10 levels out of date, plus or minus, and job dependent, of course. As a thief, I wouldn't recommend using a weapon more than 10 levels lower than your current level regardless of the stat bonus because even with your SATAs you will end up missing often and hitting for very low amounts of damage.

If you're desperate for dex at level 40, save up for some deft rings (+3 dex each), use the emperor's hairpin or winged boots. There are many ways to up your dex without limiting yourself to the bonus on the weapon. Also keep in mind, that if you limit yourself to one weapon, you limit your skillchain usefulness to the party. I've learned versatility as a thief comes in handy and I keep all of my thief weapon skills (h2h, daggar, sword, club) capped.

Right now im a 33THF/NIN i have archers knife as my main wep for the +r. acc and strider sword as my off had the +3 agi is really nice... with all the gear i have apporximately +10 DEX and +11 AGI and +5 STR which isnt too shabby =P.. Tachi: Enpi > SATA Viper Bite owns all in garliage citidale against bats doing about 100 or so for enpi 400 viper Bite and 200 distortion easily taking half the bats life.... a sword is ok for getting 30 but the damage a sword gives to jobs such as war or pld is reduced to due to the skill lvl being halved for thf.. deffinately invest in a good knife for thf ^^

There's so much wrong with all of that i can't respond to everything. Why does wielding an up to date weapon mean you'll miss more?!?! Why would you SATA flat blade anyway? It doesn't get a damage bonus, which is why fast blade owns.

Props on keeping your weapons skilled up. It's admirable, and i don't keep up with it as well as i should... just don't skill up an E rated weapon in an exp party. You can get away with other stuff until 30, but by 33 you should be using Viper Bite as your standard.

Yes please get a dagger.

Why wouldn't you be using a dagger (at 34 preferably the Federation Kukri) at least as your main? SATAVB is very effective. At 33 I was hitting yahotor mandies for roughly 350-400 with it, and at 35 with a great skillchain (one-inch punch, dulling arrow I think, then SATAVB for about 700 including the renki damage {400 + 250-300), not to mention 200 MB). I know fastblade stacks, and whatever you may get at 34, but its only a C weapon and daggers are A. Your attack will be higher, and you will hit harder.
You should be looking for Dex bonuses in different places, like merc captians stuff and at 36 the +2 dex rings. Sure winged boots and emperors hairpin are nice, but your chances getting them without days of farming or camping are slim. Also, when using Trick Attack, look for AGI bonuses as well, it seems to me that it ups the damage mod noticeably.
I know much of this was said, but when partying, I would always have a dagger in your main and something fast in offhand or that which bonuses outweigh the slower tp gain. Good Luck!

i say this should be a rdm/blm/whm/drk/pal/smn sword... says caster i think it would break the game to adjust this.

It says that because it's a Windurst conquest item. It's like a War Warlock or Temple Knight.

For caster? The only "caster" in the job list is DRK. But do we classify DRK as a caster?? Also, what caster enchancement?

yeah, 8000 conquest points for all the "combat caster" items. you also have to be rank 4. or you could check the AH, you may be lucky. pity that the "combat caster" title does not work on this scimitar...
