I just hit lvl 45 with monk and got the ability "Counterstance". Greatly reduced defense (mine goes from 200 def to 40) with increased chance to counter. Well counterstance is worthless to you if the monster youre fighting cant hit you, because there is 0 chance for a counter unless the monster succeeds in hitting you. So really, the -evade makes these knuckles more effective at putting out high damage.
It's really -5...

Think of these claws as -5 evasion, because when you counter attack you stop the monsters attack.. so really you lose only 5 evasion

BUT you gain much, much more damage output, and also you can easily counter the -5 to evasion with items, light soleas are +3 and the circlet im using is also +3.

Also consider this stacking this with that +5 counter attack ring(or earing?)... you would counter quite often I believe. :)
#REDACTED, Posted: May 29 2004 at 12:22 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) are you even a monk? if you were, you would know that counter doesnt cancel out evasion. thats just outright stupid.

He said that it cancels out an attack, not that it cancels out evasion.

Actually, I think you are wrong about the Mob having to land the hit. Either that or there is something wrong with my Monk. He often Counters after he evades a physical attack. And, I am sure of it because I keep the log up while I am meleeing to adjust my equipment.

Okay, went out to double check this. And one of three counters took place:

1) The Mob hit me and it was countered
2) The Mob missed me and it was countered
3) The Mob neither hit nor missed me and it was countered

So, I am led to believe that what triggers a counter is simply the attempt to attack you, whether it is successful or not.

On the missed but countered hit it counter may have been activated by a double attack by the mob.
There have been many times I have countered a second attack and not the first. Just a thought...

Minus 10 for obvious reason. Less evasion means the higher chance of being hit. If your chance of being hit is higher, then counter has a higher chance of being your reaction. So, minus ten is right.

I think the game checks for evade before counter, so it's not that bad a thing.

No it is minus ten evasion not all qualities are good :)

-10 evasion with +5 counter will mean that you will deal way more damage to the ennemy, because more of the ennemies attack will cause damage to him. He will miss you less often, and you will counter a greater percentage of received hits.

So your saying the monster doesnt even have to face you in order to counter? that makes no sence

Is it just me or does that really say -10 evasion???
And if it does say that is it really -10 or is it suppose to be 10 to evasion??

-Thanks
