I am currently level 79 in Wood and normally wouldn't skill up on this, but the Faerie shield sells for 200k and the Nymph shield sells for 400k. You are only putting in a oak lumber. 200k profit isn't bad for a skill up item.
I have to say, I don't get it. Why would you turn a level 29 shield with +3 in all elemental resistances and 2 defense into a level 39 shield with +3 in all elemental resistances and 2 defense? The HQ rate is going to be very low (no higher than tier 11), which is the only reason for trying it. That or for GP. ^^
;_; why does bard get no shield loving? we are mages too (if you silence us, we can't sing) and we are just as squishy as the blm (if you smack us, do we not <Run Away!>?)
up until the BCNM30/40 shields were added, there was only one shield in the entire game BRD could use... Genbu's Shield @ 74(i think.. not sure on level for that one..)
These shields are around 60-80k on Valefor but when i tried to get this sold for a item i needed (got it anyway when i did 2 BCNMs) wouldnt sell but i have it equiped now so im still ok :D
Ii bought this for 50k about a month ago on Siren. It now goes for as high as 70k. However...as a blm i cant build any shield skill. But the little shield skill I have that carried over from my war job has made a difference. So, the elemental plus is not what is key for me. When I get hit...I get hit hard. If I block one of those shots it is priceless. It is gil well spent when you dont find yourslef eating dirt.
about 65K on ifrit...and 2 things to be said about the high price-->on our server, it's most gilsellers selling the faerie shield so the cost of ingredients for nymph is always high...however, as a taru blm, i don't have many options on shields, so the price is pretty justified in my mind (the elegant shield is same price tag but +6 MP isn't anything to me, whereas 2def and a lot of % cut off magic attacks is)... i can't seem to ever catch one of these for sale though, and only have woodwork to 63 right now...
yes, it takes an earth crystal, and you use a faerie shield with an oak lumber to make this... it is a fairly high level craft, the person doing this was like level 90 or something
Also very dreamy for a Red Mage... WHM also I would guess, but I don't play one so I don't know for sure... I say this because I've notice that manny of the fights that go really bad there is some sort of magic from the enemy involved (or else a really stupid pull of a high end IT or something)
When the WHM and Red mage get silenced, the party gets in trouble... when I get hit with Petrify, or silenced, or sleeping or some other major ailment like that, I can't do my job of healing/debuffing/whatever... which is critical... if I'm poisoned and there is no WHM, then I can't rest and get mana back...
SO this is why I'll take resistances over higher def.... my element resists are around 7-12 for msot elements...and I notice a marked difference in my resist rates and status ailment duration compared to other characters (though I'm sure the innate RDM resist magic helps there to)...
That said... anyone know just how MUCH resistance to an element helps? It's hard for me to compare properly b/c of the aforementioned class magic resist bonus.. I can only really compare when I'm in a party with another Red mage...
As it stands right now my pld has +12 wind and +10 earth from my gear. An antican cast aeroga on my pt, did 80 damage to me, 120 or so to everyone else.
Keep in mind that mnd also affects your resistances. High mnd + elemental resistances make you much harder to harm with magic or special abilities just as high vit + defense makes you much harder to harm with physical attacks
