Isn't sleep a level 20 Blm spell? O.o
Unless you are referring to Rdm's....but they don't get Elemental Seal (unless they sub Blm, then they would get Elemental Seal at level 30)

So it is possible for for a Blm main to get Elemental Seal + Sleep.

It's a good staff for soloing.

I have used this weapon, and can tell you whether it's really worthwhile or not. First off, if you're a BLM at this level you should already have sleep and don't melee anyways. This staff is pretty useless to you. Now, lets say you're a WAR or MNK with this, doing some solo work, perhaps farming? Well, you should have your THF Subbed then! You SA the enemy in the beginning of battle, then just lay out the attacks till bam! He's slept. From here you disengage, rest and wait for SA to come back, then apply it and get ready to whipe the Monster brains off your weapon.

I've done it before on my WAR (leveling Staff for Earth Staff). It's pretty nice, and sleep is pretty useful. I just wish it was level 20, so I could take it into a BCNM 20 where elemental seal + sleep isn't available.

This Staff is pretty useless. If you do hit the monster and you get the effect of sleep, it will only last until you hit it again. :(

You could probably just hit -Disengage-, after the effect takes place, to keep from waking the monster again.

The only problem with "Disengage" is that the monster will go "green" again, allowing anyone to attack it. If you just take the auto-lock off and turn away from the mob, you'll get the same effect.

I use this strategy when farming giants. If my buffs wear, I Sleep II the giant, turn around, and buff up. Once i'm all buffed, turn back and finish him off.
How does the additional effect work?

Could anyone tell me if the additional effect work even if I am just using this staff to cast spell? Or does it work with melee attack?

Being a BLM, I almost never melee with my staff, not especially at level 30, which is the requirement to use this staff. If it works only upon melee, then it would be practically useless.

Oh I don't know, having the mob be asleep after every hit could be very useful. Hit him, cause damage and he's asleep so can't hit back. Hit him again and he wakes up, but then the staff sleeps him again so he can't hit back.

Of course the staff probably doesn't cause sleep on every hit, but this could give you the edge over a tough monster in a solo fight.

Recenlty, I've been studying more effieciet ways to sleep Maat during rdm maat fight. This stave seems to have some hidden properties and makes my sleep spells more effective.

Naturally this is all speculation, I'd like some constructive input on this.

It's all in your head. Use a Dark Staff (or Pluto's Staff) for sleep spells, for a 10% (or 15%) accuracy bonus.
