you guys are going to hate me. my ls friend 54rdm/ 27thf was helping me, a26rdm/13whm get it tonight. He rounded all that he can find around the g/h 9 area in Buburimu pennisula and we got the drop the first time. about an hour later, he went to shakhrami and started to farm stuff, and guess what? that's right, another drop.

Can I get the Item from Valkurm Duens ?
Thread leeches ?

Went out to K-11? in Rolanberry Fields for the stone monument. Decided to skill up sword and club at the little pond right near there. Killed one leech and got ruby drop. O_o

Too bad I already had smn unlocked. XD

Here's my two cents and experience anyway.

A friend wanted SMN job, and really fast cause he'd promised someone it or something, right, so I decided to tag along and help him, thinking that working together we could probably get two faster. I heard the drop was rare but o_O

We spent hours and hours, at least five, totally obliterating all the leeches at Buburimu with no drop...then I pulled in a LS friend subbing thf for Treasure Hunter...another two hours, no drop...then got another LS friend to come along again, Treasure Hunter II...no drop.

It took so long that my friend who promised to get SMN by the next day or something got so frustrated he gave up and left. But after killing so many of the darn things there was no way I was gonna give up, so we moved to Maze of Shakhrami and in about 20 mins got it there, and a chest key. LS friend ended up with RSE gear, I got the drop, and it was all good.

Moral of the story: Don't even try unless you are prepared to kill for hours and hours, or you have a lot of LS help. =)

I found mine in LuFaise Meadows

So I was in Pashow, killing some leeches when Bloodpool Vorax showed up. I greeted him with my Great axe and he happened to drop this along with some blood. I already got the quest done for it.
Now I noticed that you can add this with a crystal, any idea on if you can craft with it, like make a nice earring or ring or something?

It's surprising that all these people took so long. Either I am EXTREMElY lucky or everyone else is really unfortunate... I didn't have anything to do one night so I asked my friend (43 DRK/21 THF) If he would help me try and get this. He said sure and we tele'd out to Mea, got chocos and ran out right next to Mhaura. He started killing leeches and in 5 minutes we had one (we also got the Bloody Robe and the Dhalmel Saliva for Mhaura sub quest... which of course was no use to us we just were really bored). The next night I was PLing in the dunes and I ran into a friend of mine. I said, "Hey you wanna take a cruise to Mhaura with me?" and she said, "Sure, think we can try for my Ruby while we're there?" and I replied, "Sure thing we can try." Well she being a 33 MNK/ 16 WAR and me being a 27 RDM/8 WHM, I didn't think we had a chance in hell of getting a drop. But I thought I'd try anyway for the sake of posterity. Well we got out and I pulled right away. Had 300% TP saved from killing Dhalmels so I used <Fast Blade> and did 143 dmg (yay!) killed a leech in 3 hits. Waited for the items to scroll down and-SURPRISE!- we got a ruby! Took us 30 seconds to get one... I think I can make money off of this amazing talent of mine (/em grins.).

I started to solo Leeches with my 38Whm/19Blm but was only killing one leech every 3-5 minutes. Discouraged, I was able to get help from LS member 'MidKnight' 50+War and his friend Jinx...something..something joined us later (sorry Jinx you have a long name that I can't remember) at which point the Ruby dropped in about 45 min.
Total time? Just under two hours. Including my solo kills, warping to get MK, Tele-Mea, traveling back out to the beach and killing 100+ leeches.

All I can say is get help it makes a huge difference.

Ok something had to have changed on this quest seriously changed, Six months Ago I took my mnk to help a friend get his Ruby it took about an hour in Qufim and he got it. About a month later Same conditions (MNK, Qufim) I got it to drop on the first try then I went and became a summoner, no big whoop right? Now I go to do this again to help another friend out we spend an entire day (12 hours in Qufim) before we just gave up.Today we try again with TH2 help spend another 4 hours in Buburimu before we all get frustrated. The question is, Is my previous involvment with this quest and already having the summoner flag affect the drop? Im beginning to think so because I've never seen it this bad before. ::see and believe::

Here is my recent experience with Carby's Ruby. I started soloing leeches at Buburimu Peninsula (Khooma Dunes, Areas G-9 & H-9) as a lvl 35WHM\17RDM. The leeches were not that difficult to kill (I was using the usual assortment of spells, plus a spiked staff +1, and grape juice) unless I linked a few of them, which only happened once. If you stay near the shoreline and pull one leech at a time out into the water, you will usually avoid any linkage. The leeches only seem to hop into the water if you pull one there, so even when another one came close while I was fighting, I was far enough out from the shore so it did not link. However, after killing about 75 leeches solo (over 3 days) I still had not gotten the drop so I gave up. The fourth day I came back and started soloing again when a lvl 30 RDM ran up and asked if I was after the Ruby. I was, so we teamed up and got 2 drops in about 20 leeches. Other junk items (like fiends blood) dropped more often as well, and neither of us had TH (though I did have 2 and 4 leaf mandy-bud and wild rabbit's tail in inventory...i've heard those can increase drop rates a little.) I know you can get the Ruby solo, but in my experience it is far better to team up with someone....ANYONE....because drop rates certainly seem to increase in a pty vs solo. Having a THF with TH1 or TH2 would have sped up the drops up even more, but it still only took us about 20 mins tops to get the drops once we both stopped soloing and teamed up.

Do you guys think that I (level 30 RDM/WHM) can solo the leeches in Buburimu Peninsula?
Half the time I'll have a high level THF/NIN with me... (he will probably read this. ^^") but I wanted to know if you all think I can solo them while he's not there.

edit- ^^" It might seem really tough, but I have full centurion armor, and if it helps, every spell im able to have. Sneak, Invis, and Deodorize.. Blink, Regen, all that jazz.

Where'd we go? Bubu ^^ On the beach just outside of Mhaura to the left (forgot the name, don't have time to look it up ><) Killing Poison Leeches on the first part of the beach, then going through the tunnel near the water to the second part to kill more while the other's re-popped =P

I think we had an easy time because of the Regen and Curing which allowed for almost no down time so we could keep at the leeches.
