Carbuncle's Ruby
I was strolling around Windy, leveling ninja, when a member of my LS says that their going to get a ruby. Since I wanted to get all the advanced jobs anyway, I help him out. Run back to town, change jobs (31 monk/15 thf, so yes we did have TH), choco out to Bubu, get there, start killing, this was at 1 am. By the the time we dropped two rubies (what we needed) it was 7:30 in the morning (didn't have anything to do that day anyway). 6 and a half hours for two rubies. Also, based the amount of exp I gained, at about 10 a leech, we killed about 155 of them.
Now all I can say is, I'm only completing summoner so I can drop kick Carbuncle around!

True story......
Got bored one day, and decided to do Brd quest. So I head down to Bubu to get the first song rune. Finnally got there, checked the rune, and realized i forgot the parchment. So i sat there for a sec, and a leech came strolling along right up to me. I was still mad, so i killed the
leech, and w00t got the ruby!!

Went hunting Rubies with a friend , killed 70 leeches outside Mhaura on the west beach, we both got the Ruby with no thf jobs..

This thing is like impossible to get. I've been killing Leeches with the help of a friend who has TH on his thief sub for over 6 hours in Buburimu Peninsula. Nothing. Just a stack of fiend blood.
Killed three poison leeches in buburimu by the song ruins and got a carbuncle ruby. I would highly recommend treasure hunter. Used my 30 war/thf.

okay here is some advice on finding this "extremely rare" drop. i was hunting leeches with a friend in buburimu peninsula for about two hours with no drop. then the weather changed and it started raining so i said to him "if we r gonna get the drop it will probobally be now". well sure enough the first leech we killed after it started raining dropped the item. i would recomend not waisting your time hunting leeches until it starts raining. btw the moon was at almost 20% so i doubt it has anything to do with it.

I was hanging out in Buburimu for like 3 hours slaughtering these leeches, not one drop =/
If I don't have THF subbed for TH, how much will that affect my chances of the ruby dropping?

If you happen to be on the Bahamut Server and need asistance in getting this Ruby, sell Tsukasaz a /tell, it won't be for free though as im saving for all upcoming spells and a Faerie Shield, I'll help you get one for 1-5k (depends on how long it takes). No thief required ^^.
EDIT- I get them off of Poison Leeches in Buburimu Peninsula..... the drop rate DOES depend on the moon phase, that is a known fact, even if people tell you it doesn't or they have no clue.

Is it the lower percent of the moon the higher chance of getting the ruby?????? Or vice versa?? Please tell me someone. I need to know.

My friend, a lvl 23 Galkan WAR has received 2 of these as drops in Qufim... He then proceded to just throw it away both times... He got both drops off of no more than 5 total kills. I hope its that easy for me.

I have been trying to get this ruby for 13 hours now after killing over 500 leeches. I think I am losing my mind. Still no drop. I just hope it drops soon.
Oddly enough, it seems that people either have horror stories like this one about taking forever and still no drop, while others have "I got it done in 30 minutes." I really wonder what the odds are of this dropping.

Yup, I got this after 5 Acrophies.
Lvl 53 DRG/ 12 BST at the time (charming the kraken) while waiting for the alliance for Genkai 2 to come together. So I lotted a 911 and got it.... yea.

Quifm is the place for to get the ruby, trust me guys dont spend ur time pointing to bubu, in 30 mins killing acros we got the ruby
I was just heading down to the Song Runes in Buburimu Peninsula for the first half of the Bard Quest... then I saw a Poison Leech and figured "Why not, I might get lucky!" and it just so happens I did! First Leech I killed dropped, and I wasn't even really going for it! :) Lucky me.
And I wasn't even a THF :D

I went to the maze and within 5 minutes I got the ruby =)
went to qufim, killed two leeches got the drop. woohoo. my only advice is to know when your lucky.

I was at Bubu a few days ago with a friend. We didn't come to kill the leeches, just to look at the beach. My attacked one of the leeches for fun, it was the first one, the only one, and it >happened< to drop a ruby. I got it, he already had one ^^
i was just in the Buburimu Peninsula with my lvl 31 war LS member killin poison leeches, they were terribly easy fights and we killed about 300 of them and no drop, just goes to show that there is a bit of luck involved

ok heres what i figure mite work even though i dont have it... go to buburimu with a pt of 4 3 peeps who need it ad a high level thf 2 go to one beach and other 2 go to other beach in buburimu that spreads out to fight alot of them better chances of drops that way thats what i did last night it hink we got one and we were gonna get mine next but i had to go -.-
well just got mine 3 min ago in Bu. took 357 of them. I was using utsusemi every fight so thats a very close number. But thats not the funny part on about 350 a BLM shows up on the beach and starts taking on one then healing... so I didn't really care. We started talking and 7 kills later I'm in shock there it is in my inv. cant belive it. Anyway he congradulates me and I tell him I'll help you kill afew for old times sake... We kill the bogy to get it out of the way then I SA VB one then beat it to death and bam theres another one. I break out laughing pass it then after about 30 sec of silence he lots on it then says your my new best friend. We were gona go for 3 but didn't want to tempt fate. He warps I start walking. I think you should do this in a pty first off you can talk and make a new friend and I think the drop rate is higher. Well thats just my story still in shock.

I know everyone is saying ANY type of leech - but what about the Wadi Leeches in Dangruf Wadi - they are quite low level - and there are a lot of them to kill :)

yes, you can get them on Bubu. Peninisula, they are easy to get there, well the leeches are easier anyway....
Me and an LS mate got 2 rubys in a span of about 45 mins in Buburimi Penisula (beach to the south). Not as hard as Khazam keys by any means. Unless we were just lucky, but only killed about 20 Poison Leeches to get the 2 rubys, and no THF or sub THF between either one of us.

I cant believe how lucky i am. I'm a lvl 30 whm/7
blm and i when to Bubu on the asura server and i killed one of the poison leeches. It was very difficult foe me since i was by myself. Ater that fight i gave up and was gonna wait for a friend to help. The next day i went back and had a friend on the way. While i was waiting i decided to fight once more just to see what would happen and I GOT IT!!! with no thf sub,i was so excited that for once i was lucky. after that it was smooth sailing for the weather got all of it in under an hour except for ice which was a bit of a pain. Hope u have the same luck as i did.
