I spent quite while there killing those leeches in zeruhn no ruby they were the ones that didn't kill me so I tried them out no...drop killed plenty of them so now im leveling thief

One of the best places to get it, and where i got mine, is Buburimu Peninsula...i got mine in 10 minutes with a level 40 THF and a level 63 RDM, i was a level 30 RDM while doing it, before going to Buburimu, me and the THF spend a good 3 hours killing leeches there to get it, not a one found there, at Buburimu we got 2... Good luck on finding yours, its a really hard task
I was wondering if anyone could tell me if it's possible to get Carbuncle's Ruby to drop from Thread Leeches in Valkurm Dunes? If so, excellent! If not, in what areas do Thread Leeches drop Carbuncle's Ruby?
Yeah, it is completely random. I've spent 6+ hours looking. And when I got tired and decided to go to bed, I left myself logged in but away and another person in my party just kept slaughtering but to no prevail.
May be it does have to do with if they have the ruby or not ... The person I was with was 35 DRK or WAR I think, and I was just a 20 WHM so they always got the killing blow. :-S I'd rather go with that theory than anything because it tends to be true with any type of drop, not just Ruby.
How tough it is to you also effects the drop rate. I still don't have my Ruby and I'm 27. I hope I won't have to spend a day at 30 looking for it. =(

Got mine today camping Bloodpool Vorax in Pashlow Marshlands. I got there, killed about 2 cycles of leeches and on the 3rd, Bloodpool Vorax spawned. He didnt drop the amulet I had come for but never the less, he did drop the ruby. If you go anywhere to get a ruby, I'd suggest going there. The leeches here drop viles of beastmen blood which on my server go for 1k.
A ruby will drop off any lvl 20+ leech type, i've gotten them all over, buburibu peninsula, sea serpent grotto, korroloka tunnel...and have NEVER won the lot! RAR! Eventually...everyone on the server will have one and i can finally snag it! hehe too bad i'm lazy and won't go solo for one, man i got better things to do :D

I was PT with a level 46 THF with Treasure Hunter 2, and I was with THF15 Treasure Hunter1, this THF46 told me her record getting the ruby was under 20 minute.
And that time, she broke her record again, I got my ruby under 10 minutes. Speaking about lucky =) few days later, got leaping boot under 15 minutes.

Yes, you CAN get the Ruby at any level. I have one now (lvl 27) and I know someone that got one at lvl 8. Hardest part was getting him to the beach alive ;)
I agree with the random theory.... it wasn't a full moon, or night when I got mine. It was a windy day on lightday, almost the opposite.
I think we killed about 50 or so before getting it.

Confirmed Drop in Korroloka tunnel. While on NIN quest we were killing leeches for TP. One dropped Carbuncled Ruby. Suprised the hell out of all of us. But its there. ^^

lol I got so lucky, i was heading to norg with friend to do Sam quest and he die, so to try to make his exp back a whm heal me while killing a leech and bam i get my ruby =)

went to the beach at Buburimu with a friend and fought them for about 20 minutes with no luck. Then a buddy who is a theif comes to look for his own ruby and we get 2 in the next 20-30 minutes. I dont know if thats luck or not but if your having trouble with your ruby then my advice is find a thief!

I got mine soloing in Buburimu Penninusula as a 30 BLM/ 15 WHM. I died twice because of surprise spawns/linking, but I got my ruby after only about an hour and a half (including the three runs from Windurst).

can you even obtain the ruby if your not lvl 30, im lvl 22 and i wanted to know before i started trying.
I have hunted for the ruby too but never found one.
There seems to be some belief that you need to have one(or the main) job leveled to 30 in order to get rubies at all. Is this true?
This would explain why i never found one yet.
Also can anyone confirm (s)he got a ruby from the leeches in the zeruhn mines or in the dangruf wadi.

well im lvl 30 and i know that the ruby is dropped in valkrum also.
a lower level party (level 17) killed one I got a ruby, decided to let me bid on it....
I won the bid and it said I did not meet the requirements (as if inv was full) to get it, and the item was lost... my inv was NOT fulll... im level 28 redmage and dont have teh quest yet... WHAT THE HECK?

My guess would be that you must be lvl 30 to get the ruby. You can't start the quest until then anyways.

I Got My Ruby In Qufim At Lvl 29, It Wasnt Terribly Hard To Get....
You want a Ruby?
Go to Korroloko Tunnel.. drop rate is 1/50 there...sub a thf and its even more.
And yes the moon phase does affect drops.. Full Moon is best.

Having gotten Carbuncle's Ruby at Buburimu Penninsula, I can honestly offer the following facts:
1) It's random. No secret to it. Follow the advice of the people here who have said what leeches have dropped the Ruby, and go kill whichever of those leeches suits your inclination. It doesn't matter how tough they con to you, it doesn't matter what phase the moon is, it doesn't matter if your armor is the right color. I went with two LS members (between the three of us, 41 DRG, 40 SAM, 30 WAR (me)) and we got the two rubies we were looking for in about three hours. There is no way the leeches in Buburimu were conning as anything other than "Too weak..." to a lvl 41 DRG, despite the fact that it was the DRG who got the kills that dropped the two rubies (solo kills I might add, without anyone subbing THF)
2) It's not SUPPOSED to be easy...SMN has hands down the potential to be the most versatile and deadly job in the game, with the right user behind it.
3) You have two choices...be prepared to be enormously patient, or don't try to get the Ruby. To those of you who have already spent countless hours searching for it, your time WILL come. It's a numbers game...nothing more.

I like to wear a elaborate Jar Jar Binks costume and mask as part of my every day life. I went to the grocery store, and saw how depressed everyone was so I thought I would help. I started dancing in the aisles, and yelling at people, and running up to people and taking things out of their cart. It was great fun. Then when I went to check out, there was only one lane open and a long line. I screamed and screamed while in line and danced, bumping into other people. I opened a box of baking soda and threw it around. Finally I got to the checkout. I started making noises at the cashier, and I kept pressing buttons on the computer. Some people in line were groaning because the line was getting very long, but that gave me even more incentive to make them laugh. I climbed onto the table and started kicking peoples groceries on the floor and singing. The manager and one of his goons pulled me off and said I could never shop there again. Can I sue for harassment or possibly assault?

I got lucky and got mine to drop in less than 2 hrs. I had one other person with me that was a 30MNK/15THF. It was in Buburu on Bogey Beach. Make any conclusions you want from this but me and my partner got lucky.

I finally got my ruby today... killed leeches in buburimu for hours upon hours. Basically i started out with ~1900 exp, and left with ~5000 exp. At 12-25 exp per leech, i probably killed at least 150 of 'em. solo'd all of them, as a 30war
