this spell is a pain in the @$$

I was hunting this spell awhile ago and I dont know if SE lowered the drop rate on it but all I know is that I must of killed about 100 saphire quads and got nada but whatever and in way of the whole who should get the spell thing I think that Gjenrei is right completely so he gets props from me.
Right..

I know this argument is probably archaic by now. But since Im going to be working on BLM to give me a Mage option to take to sky, and open to farm a scroll rather than just buy it (no matter how cheap sometimes), I was reading all of these posts. Though I was wondering why you all felt the need to insult each other while making your points, as opposed to being civil, I felt I had to asert my opinion on this whole drop/need/want/lot issue. Most of the points are valid, despite some that are stretched a bit, but some of you are forgetting the very important thing. This is a Party game. I, personally, would gladly give up a scroll/ring/mantle etc drop to someone who needed it, even if I was desperately in need of gil. (Which I usually am.) Now I realize that is just my personal preference, and while I hope others would do the same for me, I know that it is not always the case. Some players see a shout for help and think about all the things they might get out of it. A reward, a drop, maybe even help with something they need in the same area. But why would you consider lotting on a scroll that a person you're with needs (because it pertains to his job.) just so you can sell it and profit your own pocket? And especially if that person is your friend or LS member? That doesn't make sense to me. What if, down the road, that same person is with you doing a serious endeavor? Capped fights, Missions, BCNM/ENM battles. Wouldn't you want that person to be as effective as they can? Maybe I'm just the one who's wrong. All I know is if you need something that drops, I'll let you have it, plain and simple.

As for the whole gear/scroll debate. You sell gear to buy better gear. Invest - Return - Reinvest. You buy a scroll, that money is gone. Sure, you have the spell, but that spell cannot be traded for a better spell. Getting a Waterga II drop is great, but then you have to go out and get Waterga III. Consider everything like stocks. Gear can be traded, Scrolls are like Buy/Hold stocks that no matter how much they are worth, you'll never get anything out of them other than the ability to cast. A spell is not going to be effective as a weapon all the time, period. I don't know about you, but I would rather lose potential gil and have an ally with the spell AND good gear he bought with the money he saved. But that's just me.

Reply, Don't reply, Rate me up/down, Curse my existance. It's all the same to me.

i have just spent the 3 hrs yesterday and today trying to get this stupid scroll. i am a 75 bst that is lvling his blm. i have helped numerous pts w/ coffers and testimonies. but the best i have seen drop off of sapp. quadavs is waterga II. i would buy it but there are none on the ah atm. so i am stuck camping. :( it sux.
It all depends...
# Oct 16 2006 at 5:51 AM Rating: Decent
To be honest it all depends on the situation in which the scroll drops, if a blm and melee are in a coffer party or anything else that does not include the scroll and the scroll drops, the melees have just as much right as the blm to lot on the scroll, it would be nice if they passed it up, but they don't have to, us blm shouldn't depend on the kindness of people to get our drops.

BUT if the sole purpose of going was to get the scroll for a blm then of course the drop should go to the blm.

I'm a blm and I wouldn't expect someone to just pass up a chance at 300kish unless that was the reason why we came.

Just start a party specificly for the damn scroll, make it a condition of the party that blm gets first scroll drop, there are many alternatives than just an act of kindness. BLMs, we need to be tough and get our own sh*t done.

One of my main mottos in the game is "Need before greed." Maybe it is from being in a rather pleasant LS, idk.

When a valuable item drops during skill-up, Coffer, Mission, Quest, or even Farming runs the first thought through my head is "Does anyone here need this?"

It goes both ways though... When I decided to start up Brd, I camped Stray Mary for a while with bad luck. Some people in the LS asked why I was spending so much time there and started coming out to help - without even being asked. After an hour eight people came out with the sole purpose of helping a friend. When someone on the other side of the map (S when I was N) got claim and the drop, not a single member complained or hesitated. And not a one asked for some of the gil if I ever do sell it.

I get exposure to greed in the real world, would rather not spend my personal entertainment time dealing with it.

That being said, if BLMs would spend more time in a "normal" XP party instead of Manaburn, it may (probably not, but *may*) make melee more likely to pass on said scrolls.

Leveling Monk from 55-70 it was near impossible to find a BLM most nights. I can switch to Brd (lvl 58 atm) and will frequently get a group of BLMs /tell-ing me to join their MB group - even when I am alreadyu in a pt.

those quadav are coffer mobs, so they are in the coffer area near the qulun dome zone. In Beadeaux you have to go to the higher lvl eastern part of the zone. @K-6 you drop down to the lower waterways and follow the way northwards (a cave leading down). At the intersection you can go south for 1 Sapphire (and a mute) or follow east (curse pillars). After some mobs eastwards you'll find an intersection with 4doors and 2 crawler. This is a camp with Sapphire spawning in the 4 rooms around you. If you follow the way south, you will eventually zone into Qulun Dome. Apart from (higher lvl) Sapphire you'll also find the TRUE-SNEAK NM's Ruby Quadav and Adaman Quadav there.

Im level 58 now and I need this scroll cause I do lots of manaburns.

Just checked the price, its selling for 700k and btw Quake reached 1.5 mil the other day. AM is getting very expensive.

How the hell am I supposed to buy sscrolls for that much.

I look online about how you get them w/o buying from AH cause prices are so ridiculous.

ppl here are talking about Malee ppl that lot instead of giving it to a blm friend. Greedy bastards.

What the - is wrong with you? I cant pay for that scroll!

I hope when I go Beudeoux ppl wont be jerks like some of the posters here.
#REDACTED, Posted: Sep 01 2005 at 9:18 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) wow yeah im so glad I know how to make gil and I dont have to be a complete jerk off and try to outlot my friend for a mere 200-300k. If you need money that bad then u just plain suck. Me and the other 4 sack holders in our ls are around the same lvl, and we all have scorp harnesses, haubys, and v-cloaks. You know why? Because we help each other out, and we are all really good at what we do one thing being making money. We currently all have taken up a different craft and lvled it to around 50 now, so goldsmithing, woodworking, clothcraft, smithing and alchemy, and do u know that we all have either broken even or made a small profit at this point. Because whenever we need an item that is expensive or hard to find one of us in there can make it :P. There needs to be less greedy people out there and more smart people. Just my 2 cents.

Yea, ur title for this post is right, you are a douche bag. Sorry to burst your bubble, but the fact that you have things doesn't make you special, for all we know you just bought ur gil. It takes a lot to make money on some servers, especially when gilsellers corner almost every NM worth camping. Plus, if your so good at making gil ,why don't you share some tips with them, instead of call them names when they are just trying to make enough gil to get by. Also, drg is prolly one of the cheapest jobs to lvl, especially since almost all of your end game gear is rare/ex, get into ur 70s as a rdm whm or blm, and then tell me you have ample gil, no stfu and sit down. And that was just my two cents.
RE: douche bag
# Jun 14 2006 at 9:36 PM Rating: Good
Ok first to reply to this drg idiot. The SH is the only gear you listed a drg can actually wear. Almost nuthin a drg needs costs too much gil minus sushi so you are an idiot. And this ohter idiot. As a mage as long as you have your spells you can get by, yes i know vermy noble weskit ect... are an unbelievable amount of money but they are if you can afford them, you can lvl without them same as SH. If you want to talk about gil taking jobs try nin or rng then talk. Or even sam mnk or war. Drg is hard to lvl but cheap mages are easy to lvl and only expensive if you want grade A gear so both of you stfu.

Ive been looking for this scroll for over 7 hours now on CaitSith. Theres been no drops and frankly the majority of people passing through are total asses about it. They come for keys, i offer to help them (i can solo key droppers) in exchange for flood IF it drops. Everyone has said no and yet still wont leave the sapphires alone. I love this server. At this rate im gonna make the 210k from rubies off of the ruby quadavs long before i ever see this drop. -.- My blm is 49 and i want all the ancient magic before i level it again. So frustrating since flood, quake, tornado, and flare total over 900k.

Edit: After 30 hours im giving up. At this point ive gotten Black Mage test, Water III, Water IV, Waterga II, Waterga III and two coffer keys. Still no flood.

I gave my friend the scroll of Water IV and I kept the Flood. This is because we werent there hunting for keys, we were there for the scrolls, I was rdm/thf, she was blm/whm. Now I disagree with what most of you are saying. You disagree because you know it benefits you, but if your friend is there to help you hunt for keys, then that's what he or she is there for, they have the right to lot for goodies as much as you do, and it's a random lot, so there's nothing unfair about that.If you guys were there hunting for a scroll that you need, than that's different, that would be backstabbing. But come on...even though you need it, you can still hunt for it, and they are helping you already, dont be an ******* and ask for more than what you are already getting. If you think they are being unfair then hunt for the keys all by yourself and see if you'd rather lot in fairness or get raped by 20 lvl 69 quadavs.

I dont understand how some of you melee players can get off. Ya know when you buy armor/weapons ext. You can resell that crap. Your blm friend might have been the one who had to buy it from you because you lotted higher and felt it was your right to sell it. I hope he is no longer your friend.

He didn't need it he already had the spell, hey 300k for help with keys he can't complain. ^_^;;

I been playing this game since it came out for ps2 on and off. I started as blm then went to whm because at the time it was getting hard to find pts...i was about lvl 40 when i stopped lvling it. It was also hard to do quests for these expensive scrolls. Lotta journeys to Fei'Yin. I remember it was really hard to get help cause i didn't have a ls at the time, and I didn't get to meet ppl while farming etc. At that time ppl would quickly invite a melee if a blm wasn't available.

Fast forward to today and blms are making manaburn pts...charging ppl to do ks, bcnm, Fenrir. It makes me laugh because no one is trying to help the unsoloable blm get anything, but as soon as they are at a lvl where they can be very productive, then it's "Oh the blms are manaburning"...get a life. For 51 lvls they aren't able to do much, while other jobs are at least getting invites (whm/refreshers/tanks) or able to make gil by farming.

In fact I'll even go as far to say that one of the reasons the economy if ****** is because all those blms are apethetic to the needs of others because they've gotten ****** around for 51 levels.

That's my 2 cents

BLM gets it, uses it, saves himself buying the scroll. He's x amount of gil better off. Melee gets it, sells it. He's x amount of gil better off. Both have an equal right to lot on it.

How can you even say this with a straight face is beyond my comprehension. As a blm myself, I realize the value of hard earned money spent on spells. WAKE UP PEOPLE this is money that is literally being THROWN away. Sure...melee gets the spell, and is X gil better off. Melee turns around and uses that gil to buy an oh so good piece of equipment. 20 levels later, the melee sells that equipment ( at a likely profit, given inflation) and gets that gil back to use later. Blm gets the spell, he SAVES X gil from being pissed down the drain. Once that spell is used, that's gil we NEVER see again. And those spells are every bit as necessary to a black mage as your precious melee gear. But at least you get an investment from your purchases!! That Haubergeon might cost you 7 million, but at least you get that back when you sell it. Blms **** away over 1 million just in spells never to see it again. That money that a blm saves from NOT buying his ancient magic scrolls can be better spent buying gear to help him stay alive to save your sorry butt in a pinch! God, have a heart!

I'm a BLM, and a higher level one than you. I know the value of spells.

Seriously. What the hell are you talking about? That melee is then going to spend the gil on another bit of equipment, or maybe food, or maybe crafting, or something else. He's still going to have saved xxx amount of gil. Having that spell as a BLM is like having a permanent piece of equipment to wear. Water IV is always going to be useful.

Quote:

If its so important, why are you complaining that buying the spell and losing it is losing gil?

Your logic makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. A BLM is always going to have that spell to use. A melee isn't going to be able to use that haub after he sells it. Again, spells are a permanent piece of equipment.

Don't preach to me about mages needing gear. I went out and bought all my ancient magic scrolls, and still bought good gear. If I went into a coffer party and an expensive scroll dropped, I'd want everyone to lot on it.

I'm sure the BLM wasn't soloing them. Would you give the BLM quartermaster, so he can decide everyone's value in the party? No. Everyone there is helping. Everyone there deserves an equal share in the profits. If you set up a coffer party, that key is given to the person who started the party. If you set up a flood scroll party, the person who set up the party gets flood. But just because you a BLM is around when you helped, doesn't mean they "deserve" it. The NIN, PLD, WHM, RDM, etc, probably could have used the gil as much as anyone else, or else they could choose to pass it.

I would guess the /NIN in the party tanking the mobs probably would appreciate the extra gil, after spending (X) hours pissing away shihei.

I went with an alliance of about 12 to get a PLD his AF here. Flood dropped once, but the mobs went down pretty easily with the 12 of us there. I was the lowest level there at 50 but we didn't have any trouble fighting these mobs. We were there for about 2 or so hours until we got the 2 needed keys. One Flood dropped and I got it, sells for about 100-130k on Titan. We got 2 Waterga: II to drop and quite a few testimonies.
Saps got it...

Its level 58, and no you can't buy it anywhere other than the ah. On Shiva server its over 60,000 gil, and had I known that Sapphires dropped em, I wouldn't have wasted my time. Save your money on ancient magic and wait on buying it til you obtain your black mages' testimony. The Flood drops better than that testimony in Beadeaux.... Im still looking for it, yet I had one flood scroll already... But yes, it drops off the Sapphire Quadav...

Word of note, theyre not simple cakes either. They love casting Bio 3, Fire 3, Firaga 3, etc. You need a lot of experience or help for the coffer key in order to get a chance at this.....
