Bug Broth Price Drop?

I tried to make a little bit of gil back, after spending so much on battle supplies; the shlouby NPC would only pay me 14 Gil per bug broth! Is that due to my lack of fame, or has there been a price drop?

level cap??

Been making some good gil off this

Shell bugs 100gil a stack (AH)
Lugworms 12gil each (shop bastok mines)
Water crystals 1500/2000gil a stack (AH) on my server.
and selling to NPC in Bastok mines for 107gil each.

But I'm shure the level cap is wrong, I'm cooking level 10 and must have made 80 stacks of this stuff without even a 0.1 skill up :(

You probably didn't turn in the salmon sub to the cooking guild to move up in ranking. Your cooking skill will be capped out until then..... and yeah this step did make money for me too:)

i was trying to find a good skill up recipe, and roast mushrooms werent working too well, fire crystals are expensive. so i saw this, all the ingredients are cheap, water clusters are easy to farm in La Thiene Plateau, shell bugs are 2k at the AH on Sylph, and lugworms are like 11 gil. i asked my BST friend if he would want these, he said no. so you cant GIVE these away, and the AH doesnt sell these very good, so whats the last option? sell to the vendors. I buy a few stacks of shell bugs and head down to Mhuara to find the NPC that sells the lugworms(he's hidden in his secret room at the bottom level of Mhuara, damn taru), get the lugwroms 11 gil each and sell the broth back to him for 110 gil EACH.

lets work this out shall we:
- 12 shell bugs (2000)
- 12 lugworms (132)
- 6 water crystals (free)

that makes 24 broths at 110 each = 2640

i actually made a profit selling to vendors!!!!

well good luck crafting boys and girls

its been pretty good to me as far as skill ups go so far....but damn....ive been trying to sell it on AH in jueno for days now (Gilgamesh)

i got shell bugs x 12 for 2k
lugworms x 12 = 121 gil
water crystals are 800-900 gil, but i had some lying around...

12xBug broths = 3k
at lvl 12 cooking i get almost 2 full stacks...now someone...please buy them....

it is used to call a fiend in an area, so basically you use the broth and a ---- familier will spawn. in this case its a mayfly. you can charm this animal instead of having to charm surronding "wild" fiends

You don't have to charm the animal, it comes pre-charmed. :P Basically becomes like a dragoon's dragon or a summoner's summon. Jug pets do not uncharm and will stay with you until it dies or you zone.

I want to thank the high level cooks who posted here for giving me the idea. I'm on Titan server, and I did this in Bastok Mines today. The lugworm vendor is Gelzerio in Bastok Mines, and the purchaser is Neigepance at the Chocobo Stables in Bastok Mines. As the Auction House is right between the two, it minimizes the amount of running around needed, if you are short on room in your inventory. A stack of water crystals was selling for 900 each. A stack of shell bugs was selling for 1000 each, and I was able to buy lugworms for 12gil each. So 900 + 2000 + 266 = 3166 Neigepance was giving me 108 for each jar of broth. Assuming no HQ synths and no failures, I could get 48 jars of broth from my 3166 gil investment. 48 x 108 = 5184 - 3166 = 2018 profit. As I am still leveling my cooking, I did break a few crystals, and lose a few bugs, but I was still making more money than I spent. As my cooking skill improves, I will be making at least that 2000 gil profit every cycle. I'm going to keep doing this as long as the supply of shell bugs holds up, and the prices don't go too high.

I'm fairly sure this recipe has been modified in a recent update to cap at skill level 10... If someone could correct me I'd love to hear it... However, I just crafted 400 of the broths at skill level 9.9 and only raised to 10. sooo. I'm fairly sure

For those of you who haven't found it yet, this stuff is in AH at Weapons -> Ammon & Misc. -> Pet Items.

It's selling for about 1,000-1,200 per stack in the Windy AH on Kujata right now. I find it a very profitable skillup venture, even though shell bugs are 1,500-1,600 at the AH here. I started making this at level 8 Cooking and I made level 10 in less than 30 minutes.

Power of Shell Bugs
# Aug 14 2004 at 5:54 PM Rating: Good
27 posts
I just wanted to post this info for whoever maybe wondering cause I make bug broth nonstop and I think everybody should know this information...

Obviously the Yield for Bug Broth is:
Bug Broth x4

The HQ Synth for Bug Broth is:
Qudav Broth x2
Qudav Broth x4
Qudav Broth x8

These broths will sell to vendors for about:
Bug Broth - 108g
Qudav Broth - 232g

Here is a decent way to make instant money:
#1: Go to the AH and buy Shell Bugs, hooopppefully they will only be 1 - 1.2k. If it isn't i don't suggest you buy them unless you just want them for skill ups. Oh, and by buy shell bugs I mean buy ALL of them, lol. The more shell bugs you buy the more profit you get.

#2: Go to your local Lugworm vendor which is probably really close to you cause they are like everywhere, and purchase the same amount of Lugworms as you have Shell Bugs for about 12g a piece.

#3: Get enough Water Clusters to fufil your needs.

#4: Synth synth synth!!!!!!!!!

#5: Sell the Bug Broths to the vendor.

Note: If you are pretty confident in your ability to make HQ Synths then I suggest you keep them and sell it for around 12k in Jeuno. They don't exactly sell very quickly, but they really do sell. Otherwise, just sell your exceptionals to the vendors.

Here is the math with 12 stacks of Shell Bugs:

1200g x12 (Shell Bugs): 14400g
12g x144 (Lugworms): 1728g
500g x6 (Water Clusters): 3000g

Yield - 24 Stacks of Bug Broth

Selling Back to Vendors:
108g x288 (Jugs of Bug Broth): 31104g

Profit: 11976g =D (How do you like that?)

Notes: 11976g is only the minimum amount of profit that you can make! Stacks of exceptionals sell for 12000g in the AH at Jeuno. If you can get the ingredients for cheaper then you will make more profit too! Well then, have fun making bug broth! I love shelll buggggsss!

P.S. Stop by if you see me around making Shell Bugs! Rate My Post please :) (I posted this on the HQ form too cause I'm not sure if people will catch it there >.<)

AH prices vary from server to server. So check your AH before you deciede to start making this. If your wanting to just use it for lvling be my guest but for profit anything under a 20% difference from cost to make a stack to price on AH for a stack is not worth making for a profit unless the stack is selling for over 40k a stack. Then you make an exception.

Also remember that Vender prices only change based on fame in the town you are purchasing from. Me my fame in Windy is teir 4 price for a lug worm is 11gil from a vender on shore and 9gil from the ship vender. I never really looked for the price of shell bugs but I'm pretty sure they are sold from a vender so make sure you compare vender prices with AH prices. before you make a purchase from the AH. Also double check prices on AH for the item you craft and what the item costs to sell to a vender.

Sadly I have seen on my own server "Diablos" this same problem with "Scroll of Sneak" it sells for about 300gil on the AH and sells "to a vender" for 500gil. Also Don't forget that AH Prices VARY from server to server. Good luck with your crafting!

Crafting & Selling this item on Quetzalcoatl:

(Windhurst AH prices)
Stack of Water Crystals (from AH)- 400gil
Stack of Lugs (from merchants) - 108gil
Stack of Shell Bug (from AH) - 1,500gil

At above prices, items going into 1 synth:
1 water crystal - 34gil
2 Lugs - 18gil
2 Shell Bugs - 250gil
Total - 302, for yield of 4

302 = Yield 4
302/4 = 75.5 Cost per jug of Broth

I can sell the Broth for 108, so I'm making a profit of:
906 Cost for 12 Jugs of Broth
1296 Selling for 12 Jugs of Broth
= 390 a stack (if all goes well!)

I checked the prices today and it was nearly no-profit. You could find those prices if you waited for a while, but they have become exeptional prices. When I checked today on Quetzalcoatl it was, stack of water crystals 600 (that's expensive, crystal prices have been going haywire though, lug worms same price, shell bugs 2000-2400 stack. Thats about 418 for your synth of 4 pcs, and at good fame lvl it will sell for about 108 each, for a totall of 432, and a profit of 14 gil a synth. Not worth the work for making gil, but good for lvling your skill if your at the right lvl. Just thought some people may want to know, I'd suggest you look up all the prices if you wanna try it.

This varies server to server and day to day, but...

okay, best case scenario I've seen so far:

stack of shellbugs in Bastok AH = 1900 gil. the price per shellbug is 1900/12, or 158.33 a bug.

stack of Lugworms bought in Mhaura = 108, or 9 a worm.

stack of water crystals in Bastok AH = 300 gil, or 25 a crystal.

the cost for synthesis: 158.33*2 + 9*2 + 25 = 359.66 gil.

At level 8 fame in Windurst, this sells to NPC for 110 a broth; that's 440 gil recieved from each synthesis.

Gain of Synth - Cost of Synth = 80.34 gil a synth. At level 20 or so you could probably do this just fine without having to pay for advanced synthesis. That's 965 or so a stack synth(I.E. from 1 stack of crystals, 2 stacks of bugs, 2 stacks of worms). If you're really short on cash and have cooking, bam, there ya go.

You make it by Lugwormx2 + Shell Bugx2 + Water Crystal

I don't know what skill level, and I don't know how many it makes.
