Better XP gear

Flagship of THF artifact armor. Easily distingushes us apart from other jobs and looks cool to wear while running through cities. However for XP parties, this piece is a big no-no. There are much better options out there. Bravo's Subligar obviously is the best choice at this level but this item is hard to get. If you are an endgamer involved in Salvage, Freya's Trousers are real nice too. Otherwise, I suggest sticking with RSE2 pants for Elvaan atleast, the other jobs will have to do their research but there ARE better options than this piece. Nothing sucks more than seeing a THF level 75 in an XP party wearing these things.

I just got it, but barely. I had help getting to the area, thanks Gigantos.

Anyway, I was running by the pool to check the leech coffer and got aggro, cast hide to lose aggro but got hit by a leech at the same time and lost hide. Then all the yags in the room aggroed so I cast flee and perfect dodge right after to run out of the castle.

So I'm running at chocobo speed and getting yag aggro by every single yag I pass and I see the coffer in the corner of the hallway. I pick it once, failed. The yags catch up and start hitting me. I pick it twice, failed. More yags and the leeches come up and take my HP down to red. By this time I had about 15 yags and the whole pool of leeches attacking me.

I spam my lock pick macro, next 3 fail, and as I'm picking the sixth time I fall to the ground dead and simultaneously hear a chime... It's the treasure received chime and I look at my chat log and see;

"Delrey recieves the 'Rogue's Coulettes'"
"Delrey was defeated by the Yagudo Chanter"

Bloodported back home and looked at my new AF gear!
Haha, definately worth losing 600 experience for.

this is definatly the easiest af to get . All that is needed is Tonko and some thf tools, or keys.

The only thing that may give you trouble is if the coffer spawns in the leech pool. Leeches agro to sound so be carefull if you go near the pool to check the coffer..

When i did this i went through the whole tower and i guess someone got the coffer before me. So i logged in the castle . Next day when i logged back in it was sitting in the middle of the leech pool (Just my luck), so i called a rdm friend to link the leeches long enough for me to pick the lock. Got it on my first try.

Also for any thf that is trying for this coffer . a cheap way to get it is do the quest for Key Ring Belt in Bastok Metal Works. (It also is a free rabbit charm if you keep the belt)

Stats on belt are : Dex+1 Steal+1 Dispense Skeleton Key 5/5 with a delay or every 1 minute

lol ya he meant it was "like" getting a rabbit charm because it has basically the same stats. Mostly referring to the steal +1. No free rabbit charms for you! :P

You can repeat the Keyring belt quest too, I think once per conquest tally. Makes up a good supply of skeleton keys ^^

I got this last night ^^. I was in Bastok wondering if should I get to farm, but i went to korroloka, did a search and there was too many ppl, so i said: naaah, lets try to get my next AF, so I go to Jeuno to buy some thftools, and i was like >.<, no stacks for sale, so I bought 4 single ones (the only ones selling) + 1 I had makes 5 and a skeleton key i bought too, so i grab all of the equipment that increments INT to succesfully open the coffer and grab a chocobo and went to the Castle, started to look for the coffer while using tonko on me to keep myself hidden from the mobs there. I checked all the spots except te one inside the room with the locked door and there was no coofer so I thouhgt it should be there, but OMG, there was like 3 yags IT++ guarding the torch to open the door, i waited for them to turn around and when they did a take off invis and touch the torch, then I use my macro Flee + Hide and made it to the room w/o aggro, And then I saw it there, then I go and use my SK and fails >.<, used 3 Thftools and failed too, I got the culotte on the 4th attempt with THF tools, then I just warped back to Jeuno ^^.
I wish good luck to all those THfs who still need this AF, its very easy to get ^^.

this was the easiest piece of af i've done so far. af1 is a close second.
i had my friend vido show me where the coffers spawn. i could have done this quest easy without him but it sped things up. brought a bunch of shinobi-tabi and kept tonko up at all times. never faught anything. found coffer and obtained rogue's culotte with 1 thf tool. badda-boom badda-bing. i have been lucky with lock picking. never spawned a mimic or a trap. worse thing i got was failed attempts.

i just wanna clear something up. you dont need to unlock and quests for this af. if you have af hands unlocked the coffer in oztroja will give you the culotte. i was confused about that when i tried but i went for it anyway and it worked.
AF?

Heh. got mine last night. I had a hard time getting in the lever room to find the combination to open the door, because I was lvl 53 and the yags in the room still aggrod so with careful timing of Hide and Tonko I got it, only to run to the door with the levers and find the combination I had seen didn't work, so it must have changed. So I waited around and a RDM walked up, entered the combination and I snuck in the door when he opened it. ( I did the same with the the 2 handle door, I just waited for someone else to pull the right one and ran in so I didn't have to worry about falling through the floor).

So I run around looking for the coffer, there are LOT'S of people there. One huge JP party is killing almost all the yags, probably looking for the key, not to mention that RDM. So I run around unable to find a coffer, so I decide to head back to the lever door hoping maybe it popped there. Well it DID, so I threw off invisible and spammed my Skeleton Key Macro to get my Rogue's Culott'es after like the 3rd attempt. There were 2 yags in the area, 1 turned around just in time as I started picking the coffer. Thanfully it was a BRD yag so it started casting a song instead of attacking. So I just used Hide and never took any damage. So I am stoked at this point, I decide to use my instant warp to get out, so I activate it only to d/c right as the scroll is activated!!!!..... I am freaking out at this point because if I die I delevel, and I'd hate to lose 1k exp just like that because yags were in the area, and the last time I d/c hunting a coffer, I logged back on only to find myself dead, even though when I d/c I didn't have aggro and I had full health. So somehow the mobs can attack you without you being in the game when you d/c. However when I log back on, I find that I am at my homepoint with full HP. So I guess if you d/c when you use an INstant Warp it send you to your HP anyway!^^

Personally, I believe the best place to get thf af information is http://www.bvvp.com/gaming/ffxi/thfaf.html . So far I only have the dagger, but from what I've read in this walkthrough, I can tell that it's very in-depth and should be looked into by any thf looking to acquire af gear.

This is very easy to get since the Oztroja coffer nerf. No one opens these coffers except when getting AF anymore. I got mine first try. :)

If only that were true on Cerberus... it took me four hours to find a coffer thanks to people picking the coffers - who already had the af pants, mind you - to get a mimic. -_- I'll try again later.

You really need to be quick about this coffer. If you see it and there's no one there, activate flee and drop your invis. Pop that sucker open and hit hide to drop the aggro. If you get a mimic just use your two hour and warp out. I got extremely lucky to get it on my first skeleton key during Japanese primetime. Just be fast and know all the spawn locations and cycle them frequently.

This is a rare ex item. You have to get it yourself from Castle Oztroja you cannot get it from the AH.
You can pick the coffers with Skeleton keys (better success rate with these which you will need) however make sure that you have a scroll of instant warp and 2hr up incase a mimic spawns when trying to pick the coffers.
Coffer locations are here..
http://www.speakeasy.org/~sticks/ffxi/treasure/Fr_Castle_Oztroja.html
You'll need invisible to get through this place, I didnt find any need for sneak at 56 (bats too low), however this makes it harder to pick the coffers because you are invisble so be carefull (you'll have to drop invis to pick).
You'll also find alot of theives there picking coffers anyway for the Astral Ring so this is a little bit of a pain to get.
Also to get to this section you will need to pass two doors door with leavers.
First is on map 1 which should be easy enough just watch for the trap door (J-8 Map 1)
The 2nd door (G-8 Map 2) which has 2 guards at the door (they will sill con easy at 56). Best bet is to get some higher level to open the door and invis past those.
Once you are inside you simply run around trying to look for the coffers. You'll have a problem geting to the (H-7 Map 4) coffer though because its behind a locked door which you need a "key item" to get to it. From my understanding behind there is also a "Safe Spot" if you can get inside.
Castle Oz can be found in Meriphataud mts. on the right hand side of the map.
Def: 32 HP: 15 AGI: 4
Shield skill: 10, Steal: 1%
Level to Use: 56
Arm guard quest must be open to be able to get this. Therefore have spoken to Nanaa Mhigo for Head Gear and done AF 1 also.

Will people ever learn to check timestamps?

That Senku guy 'll never read this, but for everyone who does - if you want to call someone out on something, check the timestamps and judge in proper context.

For example : in this case, at the time the dude had posted - that is, almost a year before - there was probably no information on this item. What he said was in all likelyhood useful, and news to a lot of people.
