Good Scavenge Advice

I find that I always forget to scavenge. I was thinking about the problem one day while looking for a party. I decided to macro it into my Velocity Shot macro. Considering you can't do it in towns, and I'm always hitting VS whenever the recast will allow. All I can say is that it works for me. Timers are the same and it only detracts from your DPS 1 second. Hope someone finds this useful.

Okay, I've noticed a lot of people saying "It depends on what level you are and where you scavenge" yadda yadda yadda.

Here is a link to Spielman's Scavenge guide. It lists every item that can be scavenged in every area.

http://spielmansmog.com/guides/scavenge.php

Scavenge "Facts"

* There are only 9 "types" of areas. Each area of the same type holds the exact same set of items. The types are determined by the level (or "tier") of the area (i.e. LaTheine, Tahrongi, and Konschtat all have the same items)
* All Scavenges are unsuccessful in City-type areas. This includes places like Tavnazian Safehold
* Only one type of item in each category can be found in an area (i.e. one type of fletching + one type of bolthead + one type of arrowhead, etc)
* In each area, the fletching and arrowhead you can find there will be compatible as a woodworking recipe (i.e. bird fletchings and horn arrowheads in Yuhtunga)
* Of the three scavenged ammo items, you will only ever find a maximum of two types in each area (i.e. crude arrows +6 and antique bullets +1 in Onzozo, but NEVER bolts)
* You can Scavenge ash and arrowood lumber in ALL areas, so they were not included in this database
* The level of the items you will find in an area is directly proportional to the level of the area (i.e. stone arrowheads in North Gustaberg, but demon arrowheads in Cape Terrigan)
* Firesand cannot be scavenged in low-level areas (i.e LaTheine, Konschtat, Tahrongi and lesser)
* The Hunters Socks added effect of "Enhances Scavenge" is all [lie]s...this is my personal theory

Hmmm...something wrong with the site. Header loads but nothing will come up if you click on the header links. Does anyone know if his site is down?

Why you cant gain SMN element in quifam

can i make one note the the respone of quifam not being an outdoor area because u cant gain the element for smn job there...

if you understood the rules to gain the elemental attribute you would understand why you cant get the element in quifam.

in basic to gain the element you must be able to see the sky once u zone and have nothing overhead, none of the zones to quifam have this, you either enter into a cave or from the tower there is the large ceiling just above you.

this is why u cant gain the element there.

Im a smn and i hated doing the quest, and if i remember correctly (been awhile since i done it) that information is false. You can get the ice element in Beaucidine Glacier (sp) and im pretty sure as soon as you zone there your in a cave/tunnel type thing kinda like qufim islands. if you go through rangemount pass (sp) yea im one of those auto-translate people :P.. any ways have fun ^^

i LOVE scavenge! i scavenge every chance i get! im lvl 60 in woodworking, figured id take it up since im doing ranger. im saving good money! but in any case late i have been scavenging DS boltheads! 16k a stack for those bolts in ragnarok, but i can synth them, or even demon arrowheads. i scavenge as much as possible, and anything you scavenge... stacks!! so keep scavenging! maybe you might make a few thousand gil. and hey if thats nothing, then it can be a stack of ammo for freeeeeeeeeeee

i think it just depends on how high of a lvl you r compared to which area u scavenge in.
i can get a stack of firesand in valkrum dunes in bout 1 hr 15 minutes.
right near selbina zone.

but iff i scavenge away from that area ill get different items.
good gil for scavenge in valkrum dunes when i get stack of firesand ^^

Ive noticed that the higher level the area the higher level the materials will be to make arrows and bolts. Like in Valkurm Dunes you will get Fang Arrowheads, and in Yuhungutaga (or however you spell it) Jungle you will get Silver Arrowheads, and in Garliage Citadel ive gotten Horn Arrowheads. So it just depends where you are.
u can get items in dungeons

Ive noticed that there is different things that u can Scavenge in different Area... for example.. the best scavenges ive made so far are in Boyahda Tree (wich is a dongeon btw) and got Jar of firesand and also got Demon arrow head. So i do believe that the Area Lv effect the items u get from scavenge. And Scavenge doesnt always work... so dont despaire saying it sucks... cause its a free ability that u can make a little bit of money selling the things u get... Have fun and dont forget to Scavenge every 5 min :)

If you intend on being a ranger you might as well level woodworking. All the higher level arrows can only be crafted so you might as well get the craftskill up while you can.
The usefulness of scavenge exposed.
# Aug 03 2004 at 3:59 PM Rating: Default
Listen, my fellow rangers, and I will tell you how Scavenge can be useful...kind of. The low-level quivers can help you out when farming low-level mobs, obviously. The other stuff you find is interesting in that it is used to craft arrows. First off, what is the best mob to solo as RNG? Worms. What do worms drop? Flint stones. Now, the most common items I've gotten scavenging, other than the crappy quivers, are chocobo feathers and arrowwood logs.
Put 'em all together, and what do you get? Check it out.

Wind crystal | arrowwood log x1 = arrowwood lumber x1
Wind crystal | flint stone x2 = stone arrowhead x12
Wind crystal | chocobo feather x2 = chocobo fletching x12
Earth crystal | chocobo fletching x1 + stone arrowhead x1 + arrowwood lumber x1 = stone arrow x33

So, as you can see, with the proper amount of patience, Scavenge can be useful. I know, I know, stone arrows suck unless you're just starting out, but think of the early-level skill-ups you can get if you just like to craft on occasion but don't like to just stand there doing it all day (like me). That, along with the fact that (on Shiva, at least) stone arrow stacks go for around 1k at any given AH (and if you'll really look at my chart above, you'll see that you can make quite a few with just a few successful scavenges), make scavenge start to not sound so bad. Hell, I'm only level 24 with my Ranger, so you might even get ingredients for better arrows as you level up. Any further information on that would be appreciated.

p.s. Chocobo feathers have been pretty rare finds for me, but they're super-cheap at any chocobo stable from the NPC shop.

yes, we could spend all this time, or buy them at NPC for like 600~ gil... i have found scavenge is just a fun ability, got my woodworking to level 2 off the arrowwood logs though... level 58 RNG at the moment and best thing I have ever scavnged was an arrowwood log... doubt there is a chance to geti items for better arrows...

An observation on Scavenge: I >never< find anything in a zone that is not a "true" outdoor zone. This mean any dungeon, as well as qufim, the glacier, etc DO NOT EVER produce Scavenge results. But if you are running through La Thene or Rolandberry, I find stuff with Scavenge at least half the time, if not more. I think that people would complain a lot less about Scavenge if it simply worked everywhere.

I've seen people scavenge in qufim before.

Yes, I am my own witness. You can scavenge in Qufim. It was usually a couple crappy bolt cases, but hey...at least its something... o_o

QUifim is not a dungeon. You can't acces by chocobo because there the entrance is in the city. But its technically outdoor zone.

um.. actually, no.. it is in fact classified as a "dungeon" even tho it appears to be an outdoor area.. very simple proof: you are unable to collect the elemental lights needed to unlock summoner in qufim.. i tried -_- someone in my ls reminded me that you have to collect the lights in outdoors areas, and qufim doesn't count as one >_<

and as far as the theory that you can't scavenge in a dungeon anyway? i've personally seen rng get quivers/bolt cases while in Garlaige Citadel ^^;; which i believe would also be classified as a dungeon.
RE: scavenge...
# Nov 24 2004 at 7:38 AM Rating: Decent
qufim is an outdoor area, you can't cast Escape from there...-_- Now, the TOWER is a dungeon, and since when is there a dungeon within a dungeon? o.O think about that

Update.
As most of you know, with the Dec. 9 update, RNG's can now scavenge in Dungeons and outdoors area. Found items are also much more interesting. From cut Ash & arrow lumber, to effect arrowheads, even firesand (my fav since i synth my silver bullets).
Effect & high lvl arrowhead depend on the lvl of the mobs in the area where you scavenge. Qufim will yield silver & venom arrowheads for certain - for example. Armored arrowheads I scavenged in Boyanda Tree. I'm sure we can find Deamon arrowheads there too.
Lot more interesting, all you need to bring along is some earth crystals to synth what you find.
Oh yes, the old quivers and - yes - Old Bullet Box - come in a variety of arrow/bullet lvls, according to where you find them. Like Crude Bullets +6 or in lower areas +2, which have accordingly - (minus) Rng Accu... The bullet boxes seem fairly rare... I've been scavenging a lot while fishing ^^
{Scavenge} {fun}

Enhances scavenge effect? What is there to enhance? Does this mean you will find somthing better than old quivers?

Most of the time you dont find anything at all!!
I think this is a fairly useless ability. But I am probably wrong. I would appreciate it if somebody would tell me where you can find good stuff using this ability.
