Leather Subskill

Well I just wasted about 200k trying to make this because leather wasn't listed as a subcraft. Ffxi.cannotlinkto has it listed on as leather 36 sub.

Have tried at 60 leather, but it seems to be at least 31. Went many about 20 tries and no HQ at 100 cloth. :(

Nope, when it comes to gardening with plants you grow its a whole different ball game ^^ As the description of the armor says mining, harvesting, and logging. Have fun.
The difference with Field Gear

Well, it's maybe a matter of point of view, but since I switched from Field Gear to Worker Gear (don't have the Tunica yet), I really see the difference.

In my mining's area, without special gear, I had to go with about 3-4 stacks of pickaxes to fill my inventory (lot of stackables items where I go). With field gear, it was 2 stacks max. With a not even full worker's gear, it's 1 stack max. I went mining with someone, I showed him where the points were, and we mined the same amount of times, with the same moon, the same day, the same weather (we were using the same mining point). While he broke 3 stacks of pickaxes, I only broke 3. With my field gear I can bet it would have been 1 stack.

What I can "notice" is :
-A diminution of the "Your pickaxe breaks !" sentence. I think it's mostly replaced by "You were unable to mine anything"
-A better Pickaxe Using/Item Found ratio

On an average 6-item-point, I mine 5 items and gets 1 "unable to mine anything" on average.

So, instead if there is any hidden mining skill, Worker's gear is better IMO. But there's only one way to find out : Take some people with field gear, take some people with worker gear, go mining at the time. Mining 2 hours with a field gear, then going back 2 hours later with a worker's gear to compare the results is totally useless since mining is influenced by Day/Moon/Weather/Time like everything. You have to do it at the same time.

Anyway, since it's a matter of point of view IMO, just stick with the gear you like the most. If you think field gear is better, stay with field gear. If you think worker's gear is better, go with worker's gear. You're the one who're playing, we aren't playing for you ;)

-Gives no special ore chances

-Gives no EDGE when mining
All it gives is defense.

Yes, all the text in the description was just because SE felt like filling blank space, like with all the equipment. _

PS. That was sarcasum.
coninuous mining
# Mar 23 2005 at 11:01 AM Rating: Decent
i have read that mining constantly makes the results you get over time worse and worse just thought id put this in here i also agree with baron von residentlune that none of the other high quality items give better results than the regular ones so why should the mining gear be any diffrent

i have had both sets.... i stopped leveling for 3 months straight to go mining in Yughott Grotto... exactly 2 months in i bought the workers (i had all the field before even trying to start mining).. with workers i noticed..... nothing
same profit ratio per hour
same picks break ratio per hour
same rare ratio per hour

I mined a total of 107 hours (68 w/ field 39 w/ workers)...

Profit Ratio w/ picks and equip factored in is..
518k w/ field
184k w/ workers

Profit Ratio w/o picks and equip is..
646k w/ field
317k w/ workers

with the workers equip costing so much the ratio went way up in the field equip favor.. hence 2.815...taking luck into account the numbers crunch about the same... my workers equip is selling on AH as i type this.

Do not flame me as i have tried to show data... not just guesses... and i have not flamed you

Is it true that Worker tunica gives better mining improvement stats or only just the defense?
Better? Doubt it, but just in case...

I think the main reason people think workers might be better than field gear is because there is no hard stat mentioned. Use fishing gear, riding gear, etc as examples all you want, but they all give a numerical value like "+1" or "+3."

Why didn't SE just use the same terminology and say "mining, harvesting, and logging +1?" You could argue that since they went out of their way to word this description differently, maybe the rumors are true...

Because of the intentionally vague description, there will always be some people thinking it is better than field, and there will always be some people that disagree.
I have mined extensively with both sets, and can only say that the jump from regular gear to field gear is definately worth it. It makes me cry to see a miner without the mining gear. If workers gear is better than field (which I cannot say for sure), the difference is much less noticable than between no gear and field. My advice would be, unless you are planning to be a serious miner, stick with the field gear for a reliable boost in results.

That being said, I have full workers gear for my trips into the Cauldron, just in case it is any better. Then again, I also just bought a Millionaire Desk for 1.5mil, so maybe I'm just a sucker. :P

Bottom line, hidden or vague effects exist in this game to add a little mystery to things. They are not there to "trick" you, but rather to make the game more interesting.

I think the reason there is no +# listed is because there isn't supposed to be a mining stat. Whereas with fishing has a level, and riding is additional time.
Worker's vs. Field Gear

Why go with Field Gear?

- It's much cheaper.

- If you're attacked, you can use an equipment swapping macro to swap in at least your body/leg armor. (the macro would look like /equip Body "Divine Breastplate")

- It gives the same improvement for logging/mining as Worker's gear.*

Why go with Worker's Gear

- If you have the money, you can leave your armor at home and free up 3 or 4 slots for logs/ore, etc.

- The Tunica is actually some of the BEST +def armor in the game at this level for MAGES. You can level from 15 to ~25 or so with this. (although there is better armor in the mid 20's)

- Spell interruption is reduced. If your strategy is to log dangerous places, and hit your "Warp" macro when something agros... You want extra def to guard against spell interruption. The more damage you take, the more likely your spell will be interrupted.

There you have it.

- Ruuki

* I can say this with a fair degree of confidence for two reasons.

1- I've used both, and have done quite a bit of logging/mining. Didn't notice any difference.

2- Fishing gear has "Fisherman's" and "Angler's" gear. (same as this). Fishing skill is measurable by the delay between /fish commands. Both level 1, and level 15 gear give exactly the same +1 per item fishing skill bonus. If fisherman's gear works this way, then field gear almost certainly does as well.

While the +1 on the Fishing gear is obvious, there is no claim as such on the Field/Worker gear. All it says is "Improves (type of raw materials) results".

Have you tried using the gear in all of the different zones?

The word "results" is quite open to interpretation.

#1.) I'll get more of the "rare" material for this area.

#2.) I will have more than one item given to me when I mine/chop/harvest at each "Point".

#3.) I will break the tool I'm using more often without improvement.

#4.) There are two results possible when I mine/chop/harvest. I will get something, or I won't.

Then of course: What if it's all of the above?

In my personal experience with Field Gear: Take the 4 definitions, and consider them in increasing order. This is my take on what Field Gear actually does. It will improve "Rare Item" yields the least, give multiple yields/point second, reduce breaks third, and give a yield on the first attempt the most.

It also seems to effect the different points in different ways.

Harvesting gives tons of items/point, and few breaks...but the items suck.

Logging gives few breaks, and a good deal of rare items, but sometimes you chop 6-7 times at one tree.

Mining gives lots of multiples, and several rare items, but at the cost of TONS of breaks.

I just bought Worker Gloves....we'll see what happens :)

Flame away.......

Okay, people. Think about this for a moment.

Yes, the Worker's Gear is the HQ version of Field Gear. No one disputes this. But what is the logic behind this assumption that Worker's is better than Field?

Each of the "special" armor has an HQ version. Fisher has Angler. Vagabond has Nomad. Chocobo has Rider (or is it vice versa?). Do any of those HQ versions give any different bonus than the regular quality version? No. They do not. You still get +1 HP, or +1 Fishing, or +5 riding time.

So why is Worker's Gear the exception to this rule? I've heard stories about doing better with this HQ version of Field, but have heard just as many stories of doing worse.

Like I said, think about it. My humble opinion? Anyone who thinks the Worker's Gear version is better is just lying to themselves in their desire for more gil and better mining, harvesting, or logging results.

I spent 2 hour logging in burumbu penn. got various items but importantly 1 ebony 1 mohageny and 2 rosewood logs in this time,, i was using level 1 field gloves only. So i come read this and go out and spend 100k on level 15 worker gear hose tunica gloves. Repeat same process for 2 hour and only get 1 rosewood log in the same time. Only noticeable difference other than doing 3x as bad with the new gear was less hatchet breaks. I think people posting here must make this stuff and dont want people to realize it makes no difference. Just buy the gloves for less item breaks. Who knows might work for mining bu definetly not logging. Good luck.

Workers Vs Field
# May 31 2004 at 1:13 AM Rating: Decent
Ok.... I Started mining 1 week ago, started with the feild gloves and boots. After i had mined for awhile, i had enough for the tunica. With the 3 peices, i saved up enough over 3 days for the workers boots and gloves. With these new, very expensive, peices of armor, over a week have saved up 100k only rom mining, and am able to make a trip to Zherum Mines and get 20 iron ores and a chance of a darksteel ore every 12 pickaxes. There was a very drastic change from the workers and field. My advice, pay for the armor by mining, and when you can, only get the workers gloves and boots. One Really quick thing of luck, went to Gusgen Mines and on the 2nd mine got a Gold ore=9k ^^

Field Vs. Work

Does anyone know if there is a difference between the Field Gears improvemnet and the Workers Gear Improvement? Or do they both give the same bonus, just one has better defence?

In response to the two earlier posts. The mining equipment is the field/worker tunic, boots, and gloves as they all improve mining. The pants affect lumber and harvest only. Second, if you can afford the tunic it is recommendable to buy the gloves and boots and pants as well because that will add another two levels of improvement rather than just the one via tunic. (1 item= 1 bonus, all three items=3 bonuses (duh obvious huh, hehe)). Lastly on the colored stones...YES the gear will help. They are mined like all other mined items, so they fall into the category of bonus that these give. But again if you are going mining for colored stones its better to have the whole set rather than just one piece of the set.
