Minimum Requirements?
# Oct 11 2008 at 11:15 PM Rating: Decent
I think this food has a minimum of something whether it'd be Base MP or lvl.

As a lvl35 WHM, I tried to use this and it would not let me use this in any way.

The recipe needs to be changed for the recipe using the key item pattsier. It uses 2 x chestnuts just like the other recipe.

Update:

The old recipe still works. You can make Marron Glace the way you've always made it before.

The reason why you would want to use the "new" recipe is that the HQ version (Squirrel's Delight) is a +2 version (i.e. it has a blue box around the item).

On our server:

Marron Glace: ~5000
Bijou Glace: ~25000
Squirrel's Delight: 100000 (only 1 sold so far though)

NO INT
# Mar 07 2005 at 2:24 AM Rating: Decent
I know this has been posted on here, but to make this very clear THIS FOOD GIVES NO INT. The reason it bothers me so much that it says that it does is... people quit making Apple Pie+1 on my server. If you are a BLM or RDM, or a cook, please keep this in mind.
RE: NO INT
# Jul 16 2005 at 6:06 AM Rating: Decent
I had a BLM swear blind to me that it gives you +4 INT. He used one and after he died he said he lost his INT bonus. I dunno if there might be a latent where BLMs need a certain level or armour for it to kick in or if he was just imagining it since I have a 40 BLM and 75 RDM and never got the INT bonus when I used one. If you want good INT and MP bonus, go for pie/pie +1 or crimson/vermillion jelly if your MP is near the 700s. Marron glace is best left for smns.

WHMs, although the pies give you more MP, are much better with mushroom/witch dishes - mushroom stew for the win since this gives you a nice MP boost, +4 MND, -4 enmity, and MP Regeneration While Healing +4. Forget cookies, this stuff is ultimate.

im a 60SMN/30WHM on the Midy server...love the 13% added MP and the + 1 regen mp while healing. add that to my dark staff and my verm cloak...SWEETS!!!..these jumped up and down in price from 4K --> 3K --> 4K (last i checked. out of town so i havent played in a few days ><). sweet thing is, my friend is a 92+ cook and can make me 12 of these for about 10K. saves me some good gil. another food that i like is Mushroom Stew..that one is also nice for a WHM or SMN seeing how it adds +40MP, +4MND, -6VIT, +4(might be +2 now) mp regen while healing. thing is, those are 10K+ now..i remember when they used to be only 4-5K. luckily my friend can also make these and at a cost of maybe 80K for 12(still save me a nice penny). O-yeah, both the glace and stew last 3hrs. so 4K or 10K for a 3hr food is WELL worth it in a xp pt. well...good luck to all of you searching for that right food for you. seems that i have found 2 ^^

I wouldn't recommend this food to black mages or red mages due to the fact that it won't help you with resists. If you're overpowered for the monsters you're fighting then go right ahead... but chances are you don't need all that extra mp if that's the case.
RE: Confirmation
# Mar 14 2005 at 4:47 PM Rating: Good
Actually, the MP can be a rather massive bonus. Sure, you get no int bonuses, so non-tarus need to weigh the options.

However, I have 100 Int with my EQ. My resist on IT mobs are rather minor to be honest. The extra MP, however, is invaluable to maintain uptime. It's shocking that only 100+ extra MP can be so different, but combined with that +1 to resting regen and it makes a potent combination.

Different strokes I suppose.
Regards to +85 MP MAX - incorrect
# Feb 02 2005 at 1:51 AM Rating: Decent
Hi there, I was reading through the forum to see what people thought of the stats on this food item, as I was stoked I could just use it on my blm to get rid of it seeing that there was a +4 INT on it.

How disappointed I was when I tested it out, and I'm glad I checked first before going to a party!

Now, people say +13% MP and yes, I can confirm this is correct. Although, the "to a max of 85 MP is incorrect as I decided I would eat it while skilling up my cooking (no armor to change so I was at base stats) to see for myself. I gained a total of 105 MP (I am a tarutaru BLM 70). So as for the MAX on this food, I don't know, I received 105 with a base MP of 813 raising to a total of 918 after eating the food.

Now, I also decided I would eat it on a mule, so I changed it to a lvl 1 mage, no stat change whatsoever.

So there is a minimum MP requirement for this food to take effect? I don't know, just don't go buying it for a low lvl job thinking it will add a lot of mp to find you just wasted gil and can now not eat anything else until your food item is gone by either death, wearing or an Antacid from AH.

That's my two cents, tested them out for myself and thought I would post my findings to share with you all. ^^

I just geared down. Checked my mana 633, no +int..

After taking this it gave me +81 mana, and no added Int. It did have the hmp.

So, yeah this would be good if all you need is mana.

Yep, I can confirm this also. I believe the mp is a %, possibly 13% as mine was boosted by 45 at L36. Also still has the mp regen (I think) and lasts 3 hours.

It's not +75 MP, it's +13% MP, with a maximum bonus of +85. In other words, pies are still better food overall for the lower levels, but once you've got 300 MP or so this is a nice upgrade.

I just used this as my BLM and the stats have changed since the patch. It gave me +85mp and +1MP regen while resting. Seems perfect for WHM's but not BLM's cause of the no INT.

But in fact this is a french sweet, and marron is chestnut in french. It translates into english as "Glazed Chestnuts."

It's a real dish, and sweeter than you can imagine.

Well, of course they're not /french/ per se. But many of the San d'Orian names are based on french or have a french bent. The city's name itself is a rather french-like name. (San de Oria-> San d'Oria)

Bostaunieux Oubliette contains what is ostensibly a french word (Oubliette is a word in english with french roots - based on the french word for "to forget" - oublier. An oubliette is a dungeon with an opening only at the top.)

Many of the San d'Orian NPCs have french-style names, like Ostalie, Machielle, Leuveret, Ferdoulemiont etc... etc...

There are several food items, such as the "white bread" which is billed as made from San d'Orian wheat. The +1 version is called "Pain de Neige" ie Snow Bread in french. There's also the Salmon Meuniere, a french dish that translates somewhat literally into "Salmon, sauteed in the style of a miller's wife" (Meuniere, or a la meuniere is a word in english based on the french word. Its meaning in english is "rolled lightly in flour and sauteed in butter.")

The list goes on for quite a while.

This is not to say that San d'Oria embodies the french - only that the developers used a "french template" to create the sandy names, styles, food dishes etc etc.. Whether or not you think they embody the french cultural attitudes or not is up to you. I'm sure the developers would very quickly give you a "any resemblance between people, places and names in this game and reality is purely coincidental etc.."

They do this throughout the game - many groups of both mobs and regular NPCs exhibit the same sort of themes. For instance, all of the antican names are latin based, the quadavs are all stone/metal/gem based, the yagudo are very 14-16th century europe based (conquistador, condottiere etc.)

Worth noting is that the Elvaan are based on the period of High Chivalry. Chivalric society did find heavy roots in French culture, in period, even if it was reflected in English and other neighboring societies, but the period did have its real hayday, especially in literature, in France. Yagudo are based on the Catholic church, and famously catholic cultures, notably the spaniards.

Actually, in the middle ages the French were rather good at war. That's why the culture was so heavily French. William the Conqueror (that guy who invaded Britain in 1066) was from Normandy, a province of France. So, since Sandy is clearly based on a medieval/Renaissance France, it's highly appropriate that they be warlike (and good at it).

Yes he did. However, Napoleone Buenaparte, or Napoleon, was actually and Italian. He was enrolled into a French military accademy and integrated into the French Army and slowly moved up in rank during the Reing of Terror.

Therefore, Although Napoleon conquered half of Europe, he was originally an Italian who hated France for taking his beloved home city.
