Did this with my LS on Saturday. We managed to pull something from inside the east door so we didn't need the Prelate key. We fought him 8 times for 8 pairs of mitts. Took us about 4 hours total so about 30 mins to heal, clear the area, and kill the NM. Searing Light seemed to hurt the level 50 people considerably more than the higher levels. Our SAM died 3 times because it hit him for 800+. Other than that it was great fun and congrats to everyone in Prophecy on obtaining their mitts!

I got these today with my LS bud and they're great. Some tips for the offering would be to stand to the side of the door when u open them and have someone else look in w/ invis on, work in a team of 2 and you'll soon get them a relatively less dangerous way

Hope this advice helps you out

Perpetuation Costs

Carbuncle mitts do decesae carbuncles perpetuation cost by 50%.

At Level 32, carby costs me 1mp/tick.

Without then he costs me 3mp/tick.

Add one more for auto-refresh which means his base cost is 4mp/tick

4/2 = 2 + 1 (For auto refresh), carbuncle now costs 1mp/tick

When I hit 37(Or is it 36?) , carby will still consume 1mp/tick

5/2 = 2.5 (Rounded up) = 3 + 1 (Auto Refresh)

When I hit 46 (Or 47) he will cost me 2mp/tick

6/2 = 3 + 1 = 4

Once I hit 51, I can use the Light staff (-2 Perpetuation costs to carby) to have a free carbuncle

At level 25, with Carbuncle mitts, I could have a free carbuncle

(Auto-Refresh) + (3/2) = 1.5 > 2 = 3

3 - 3 = 0
RE: Perpetuation Costs
# Feb 17 2006 at 2:15 PM Rating: Good
At 25, are you sure you would have free Carby? It's been my experience than whenever things need to be rounded, they don't round in your favor.

For instance, Happy Egg gives 1% MP. I believe if you have 99mp, you will not see any gain, but once you hit 100mp, you will then see the 1% applied.

I think the same thing would occur in your 2nd example as well... Carby would cost 2mp/tick because it would actually round to 3mp/tick before your Auto-Reresh is applied.

I could be wrong...it's happened before :D

yea... have some 75 friend get the trigger and kill the NM. Then you lot for it. I helped my sister got hers this way she didn't have to do anything. You will need a few 70+ for the NM, it's not soloable even by 75

1 thing you missed
# Nov 20 2005 at 8:44 AM Rating: Decent
Didn't you think that SE might make it impossible to have 0 perpetuation cost so the mitts might take off 4 at higher lvls but because yours should be 0 with -4 you could keep carby out forever?? SE might have decided always to have -1 perpetuation cost so you can't?

I had actually thought of that. However, if you use a Light Staff then you have a "0" cost for Carby, so that didn't seem to be a possibility.

Also, had another thought last night. Perhaps the Carbuncle Mitts have an attribute which is much like a Variable Cape or some of the ENM bonus rings. So at a certain level they are -1 Perpetuation and could then theoretically adjust as you reached a higher level.

Maybe something like Carby Cost -1 ~ -5 ????

Anybody have any statistics to share?
Observations on Carbuncle Perp Effect

OK...

There are many theories here about what the actual perpetuation reduction is for Carby Mitts.

For example:

DigiDude wrote:
The Hidden Effect of Carby Mitts is not Perpetuation -4, it is Perpetuation -1/2, so at 75 hell cost 9 mp without anything, so it takes off 4.5, which rounds up to 5 ^^

DFlameIfrit wrote:
these reduse carbuncle cost down to one

Astronym wrote:
these mitts cut the cost for carby in half. so at 5mp/tick, it will cut it in half = 2.5. rounded up, thats three, so you pay 2mp/tick for carby.
7mp/ tick, divided by 2, thats 3.5. round up, 4, so 3mp/tick

Allakhazam.com wrote:
Hidden Effect: Carbuncle Cost: -4

Last night I got these (woot!!)

Put them on as a level 44 Summoner and went outside Jeuno to test them out.

At level 44, MP drain from Carby was -4 without Carbuncle Mitts.

At level 44, MP drain from Carby was -1 with the Carbuncle Mitts.

So...if the normal MP drain from Carbuncle at my level is 4, that means it is actually 5 (because of Auto-Refresh).

Let us then work with a base of --5-- MP per game minute, and test the various theories for which is correct.

Base Cost: -5
Auto Refresh: +1
-------------------
Actual w/CM: -1
Actual w/oCM: -4

HALF THE COST / ROUNDED UP THEORY:

Dividing the Base Cost in half, nets us -2.5 drain / tick.

Round that up to -3 (according to the two main theories) then factor in the Auto-Refresh bonus of +1, and we should have a perpetuation cost total of -2. But we don't. Still doesn't equal the -1 that we observe at level 44.

SUBTRACT FOUR FROM THE TOTAL THEORY:

This is the theory proposed by all the major websites: Alla, Somepage, MysteryTour, etc.

Unfortunately, it doesn't work, or is incomplete.

Base cost of -5, adding back the Auto-Refresh of +1 is the actual drain currently without Carbuncle Mitts. If you simply subtracted -4 from that you would get a Perpetuation cost of "0". But since the actual is -1, then this is not true either.

POSSIBLE ALTERNATIVE THEORIES:

Since I know that my MP drain from Carby is -4 (actual) without Mitts, and that it is -1 with Mitts, then there are several possiblities which will clear themselves up with some additional information.

A) Carby Perpetuation Cost -3 (first possiblity based on personal observation)

Problem with "A" is that others have used these Mitts at higher levels and are reporting more than -3 savings.

B) Carby Perpetuation Cost could potentially be calculated as follows.

(Without Carbuncle Mitts)

Carby Perpetuation Cost Base: -5
Auto-Refresh Bonus: +1
-----------------------------------
Resulting Base Carby Cost: -4 (RBBC)

Carbuncle Mitts MP Savings Amount: ((RBBC/2)+1)

So using this: Normal Carby Cost -4
Divided by 2 Then Add 1 Extra Bonus Point

RESULT: Carby Cost -5
Auto-Refresh +1
Carby Mitt Bonus +3
-----------------------
Total Carby Cost -1

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

So using this, what would Carby's MP Drain be at level 75:

Carby Perpetuation Cost Base: -9
Auto-Refresh Bonus: +1
-----------------------------------
Resulting Base Carby Cost: -8 (RBBC)

Carbuncle Mitts MP Savings Amount: ((RBBC/2)+1)

So using this: Normal Carby Cost -8
Divided by 2 Then Add 1 Extra Bonus Point

RESULT: Carby Cost -9
Auto-Refresh +1
Carby Mitt Bonus +5
-----------------------
Total Carby Cost -3

AGAIN: I stress that this is just a working theory, and that I am know way stating this formula to be fact, only that it does fit my current observations better than any of the existing theories.

Once I hit level 45 (I will try tonight) then my Base Carby Cost will change to -6. I will be able to test it further then.

REQUEST: If anybody has these Mitts, would you please post your level, and cost to use carby wearing Carbuncle Mitts (but without any other avatar related gear, or refresh gear) and also the cost to use carby without the mitts (and again, also without any other refresh or avatar related gear.)

Let's figure this out together.
CLEARING IT ALL UP
# Nov 08 2005 at 2:05 PM Rating: Decent
Carbuncle mitts: mp + 15

Latent effect: Carbuncle perpetuation cost cut in half.

these mitts cut the cost for carby in half. so at 5mp/tick, it will cut it in half = 2.5. rounded up, thats three, so you pay 2mp/tick for carby.
7mp/ tick, divided by 2, thats 3.5. round up, 4, so 3mp/tick. at lvl 51, you get ur light staff and austere robe, which knock off three mp/tick, making carbuncle free. the sad thing though, avatars ALWAYS take autorefresh first. so even if u have gear that should allow you to refresh, it wont happen.

now, this offering:

i am 3/3 for this offering. its past time of mine. and a really nice gift to people.

there are 6 rooms this offering will spawn in. only 6 rooms.

you reach these rooms by going through the back entrance to temple of ugly people, throught the zone to den of rancor in yhoatar jungle. here is my guide:

Macro

Invis
/ma "Invisible" <me>

Bring a rdm or a smn/whm above 50. at zone, stoneskin, blink, protect, etc.

invis up and hug left wall until u come to four doors. these are four of the spawn spots.

there is usuallt two tonberries in the hallway, and iron maidens close to the hallway. also, behind each door is a tonberry.

what you have to do is wait for the tonberries in the hallway to turn their backs to you. standing next to the door, not in the line of sight of the tonberry inside if it were opened, when tonberries are turned away from you, drop invis and open the door. see if the tonberry inside has his back turned also. if not, then reinvis and try again, waiting for those moments where tonberries have their backs turned.

if he DOES have his back turned, run into the room, staying out of his line of sight, and reinvis.

now look around for a ???.

if you dont see it, wait til the tonberry in the room turns his back, and using the same method you used to get in the door, stand to the side and open it, checking for tonberries outside. if none there, step outside the door, making sure to stay in the door alcove so the tonberries wont see you, get to the side and reinvis. be careful of the iron maidens walking around, cause if close enough they will aggro to magic.

At any time during this process, if you get aggro, run for zone. with blink and stoneskin up you should make it before you die. zone out, heal up, buff back up, and go back in.

if the offering is not in the first four rooms, there are two rooms past two wallls down the hall.

same idea, but now you have to go down the hall all the way to the end past the four doors.

the wall in the back can be opened, but you have to be uninvis'd. its hard here, cause somehow sometimes the tonberries see through the wall and will aggro you.

wait til its clear, drop invis and open the door. if no tonberries are looking your way and run in. invis back up, being wary of the pot in the room. the back wall has another door that can be opened, but you must once again be uninvis'd to do it. go up to it, wait til the tonberries arent lookin, drop invis and open, check other side, if clear, run in and reinvis.
now there are two doors to your right to theck. you do this using the same routine as above.

i have found the offering in three different rooms, twice up front, and once in the back.

when i found it in the back, i had competition in the form of a lvl 70+ pt on my tail. but i beat them. if you go in, and ppl are there, you have to act fast. this is fair game to anyone who is there, be he a lvl 25 rdm with sneak and invis, or w/e.

its really an easy thing to do, just have to have a lil patience. if you are on carbuncle, send me a tell and i will help you^^

Ook so I made it to the Temple and found the ???. when I checked them it said A high pitched sound would echo very well in this place.

I thought from checking the ??? I would get the offering.

Can someone explain why it didnt give me?

I used 30 Red Mage for sneak and invisible.

The link below shows you how to get there.

You were not checking the right spots, after you zone from Den Of Rancor, go up the stairs and turn left. In that hall there are 2 door on each side. The ??? will either pop in one of those 4 rooms or if you ALL the down the hall and turn left again you get to a secert door where theres the NM (for on of the windy missions i think(Bronze...something) it could also be in that room, OR, if you go through the OTHER secert door in that room you'll be in another hall w/ 2 more rooms on the right side.

These are the 7 (i believe) spots the ??? will pop

hope it helps, good luck

I've had these for quite some time and the prepetuation cost - is actually depending on your current level. I wish I knew the formula but I do not.

Actually, at the highest Carbuncle perpetuation (9 MP/tick at level 72+), it reduces the cost by 5.

Just nitpicking =P
Don't count on magic aggro...
# Aug 18 2005 at 2:56 PM Rating: Decent
Went to get these the other day and was hoping the trick of using the doll magic aggro to open the prelate key doors would get us through. I'm sure the trick works...but we stood at the doors for over an hour with nothing ever coming close enough to be angered by our castings. Since the room with the doors doesn't contain prelate key droppers, we had to wait on someone with a key to come join us.

Anyways, after finally getting the door open the fight itself went fine. We were 75 BRD/75 MNK/75 MNK/75 RDM/75 SAM. Hardly even took a scratch. Some people tried to tell me that just a BRD and MNK duoing can kill the NM, but I wasn't willling to try it out. I'm sure it would work, but it would take a long time.
