Someone asked a member of my LS for help on this the other day, offered 250k. Since they only had 400k and were paying the other 150k to a 75rdm to help, we discounted it to 150k. (If my LS asked me, I would have gone for free, but that's me). Anyways, LS member asked me if I wanted to help, since we were going there to get me an RDM testimony anyways. I said sure. I was there as 68rdm/nin, my friend was 74blm/whm, our other LS members there were a 75war/nin and 75brd/whm. other people were 2 smn's both hunting the mitts and the 75rdm/blm helping.
Basically me and the war were the only ones there really meleeing. The brd was swinging away with his staff too, but other than some nice WS dmg, not doing much on the melee part.
So we did the two battles, one of the smn's died 3 times (she was only 46 I believe, died twice in one-shot's from NM's carby 2hr, 3rd time was aggro from a pot when she cured herself after weakness ended. We got the mitts for both, no light pact though.

But one strange thing happened to me after the first fight. Tonberry's are only supposed to aggro sight, but at one point, while i was healing, invis'd with Tonko: Ni, somehow I got aggro from a normal Tonberry. Tonko was still on, hadn't even started to wear yet, so wtf?? Was this some glitch, or does Tonko invis not work the same as magic invis when resting? Has anyone else experienced this? Or does more enmity increase the chance of being detected? (I had on an Eris Earring, because originally there was just going to be me and the blm hunting my testimony and i needed to keep hate from him, him being taru and all, and I'd forgotten to take it off when we went after the NM).

I put up Invisible in Yuhtunga Jungle the other day, and took a knee to rest, and I was soon thereafter hit by a goblin...I think if you're resting you'll be detected no matter what.

If you were resting invisible, only "true sight" or sound-aggro mobs will aggro you. A normal sight-aggro mob will not aggro you.

You can always be detected with low HP by undeads, but Deoderize will fix that.

In attempting to get the item for Teleport Yhoat, I rested with invis on right in front of gobs many times without aggro, possibly something that aggros sound "heard" you and dropped your invis right infront of a gob who decided to attack. If you do not have invisible on, regardless of level, you will get aggro by resting in front of a gob.
Prepetuation Cost Reduction

Just skimming through the first few posts and I realized that not everyone know what these do.

It's not -2 perpetuation, it's not -4. It's -50%, rounded up. For example...

Level 25 Summoner
Carbuncle Perpetuation Cost (Regular) : 3
With Mitts : 3/2 = 1.5, Rounded to 2. Thus, 1.
With Autorefresh : 0

Level 53 Summoner
Carbuncle Perpetuation Cost (Regular) : 7
With Mitts : 7/2 = 3.5, Rounded to 4. Thus, 3.
With Autorefresh : 2
With Light Staff : 0

I hope this clears up some things ^^.

Anyone know if Apollos Staff will allow you to refresh mp with carby out and gloves on? I get the impression that the carby mitt cost is factored in later in the math preventing you from refreshing mp with carby out (would be sweet) but I have yet to test this.
How is a lvl 20 smn suppose to acquire these, or are you expected to use alternate job for the fight? I want these, seeking aid on fenrir server

These would be hot for the trial sized matches. Otherwise theyre not worth fighting a NM for.

I was in Promyvion-Mea and a summoner came in with these mitts on and soloed a craver so dont tell me that these mitts are only good for trial sized matches. =P

End game these gloves will be your friend as a smn. With verm cloak [ auto refresh ] + Apollo's staff [ -3 perpetuation ] + carb mitts [-2 perpet on carb ] I gain MP while carb is out. I find it really ez to solo toneberries and other mobs w/ these things. The mitts aren't easy to get (meaning someone usually dies pending light resisitance and char lvl), but it's a 100 % guranteed drop so what the hell.... Realistically speaking you'll never use these in a exp pt unless they want you spamming meteorite for a MB, but they're more practical for solo time.

**Just to reinforce it - these gloves are -2 not -4**

i didn't know much about smn until i started leveling it some. when somebody mention these mitts i decided i might as well get them. i got offering as 42whm. i was able to check 2 granite doors at a time before i had more aggro than i could handle. the ??? was in the final door. i got the offering and shortly after my stoneskin/blink wore off and i deathwarped. no big deal. i went the next to to fight the NM for the mitts. the most difficult part was getting through the door without a key. we aggroed a pot (which worked) but during the fight were aggroed by 3 tonberries, the manipulator, and 2 more pots. of 75whm, 75rdm, 75brd, and 75pld...the brd was the only one to die. it took us about 15-20 minutes to clear everything though. we got to ??? room and cleared it of the 4 tonberries in a few minutes. the NM used searing light seconds in to the fight but it went for the most part unnoticed. like any tonberry fight the most threatening part is their throat stab ability which was hitting me (75pld) for 1000-1300hp each time (usually only once or twice p/fight). other than that the fight took around 7-8 minutes both times, was very easy, and worth the trouble. 2 mitts, no light pacts ; ;
Fun.

Got these about 3 weeks ago, everyone but me was 70+m ost 75... I went as 46 thief. >.>;

It was NIN/PLD/WHM/BLM/BLM, as far as the high levels went.

Walked out there no problem (forgot my offering, had to get one of the blm to D2 me and then get picked up by my whm. ><)... spawned the NM after having the sense to unequip my bone knives +1 (-5 light resist each. ^^; )... Survived with 70-ish HP, the 5 level 70-ish people mauled it, I'd say, about 3 minutes, tops. Searing Light only went off once, at the initial spawn.

Drops were 1x Light Crystal, and 1x Carbuncle Mitts. Was fun~ ^^

Edit: I CAN'T SPELL. ><

Just did this today. Party was as follows:
75 NIN/WAR Sonnsaku
75 RDM/BLM Toshipy
73 BLM/WHM Ryans
70 BRD/RDM Alahsiedra
64 WHM/BLM Bigohiggo
61 SMN/WHM Drakon <me>

Drops in 6 battles: 6 Carbuncle Mitts, 1 Light Spirit Pact, 3000gil per battle, 1 Tonbery Lantern, 4 Tonberry Coats, light crystals

Follow Larzonia's post for the most part. FYI: As of 3/6/05, you can still aggro a pot through the door, so a key isn't necessary, but it's very helpful. When you get to the NM room, clear it of tonberrys and buff up. The MOST important part of this whole thing is the bard. Seriously, the bard makes this whole ordeal fun and not hard at all. Light Carol will totally nullify the NM's Searing Light. Have the bard cast light carol before each trade of the offering, and make sure they keep it up for the whole battle. We fought the NM 6 times and only had one death, and that was because some of the other tonberrys respawned while we were fighing the NM. The NM did Searing Light at least 3 times per battle, and each time it did 0 damage (to me at least) because of Light Carol. No one ever died from a Searing Light. Everything else went really smoothly. You do NOT need a party of 75s or even 4 75s, but I do suggest having a lvl 75 tank...NIN is probably best. So, I hope this helps out a bit, and gives some people out there some encouragement. Good luck! ^^

Offering directions!
# Mar 02 2005 at 3:52 PM Rating: Good
When i got my offering i had no directions, so i am posting them to help everyone,...
1. enter into Den of Rancor from Yhoator Jungle,.. entrance is east of the "Blood" thing on map
2. keep to right wall the lizards don't aggro but Pucks aggro sound and hit hard
3. enter into Temple of Uggalephia and put invis on,.. stick to left wall until you see a hallway with 4 doors.. it spawns behind these doors and these Tonberrys will aggro even if you are 75
*. there are 2 more rooms deeper but are much harder to get to.
GL and hope you enjoy your mitts! :)

Got these a few days ago, party was:
62 SAM (me)
75 MNK (Zeke)
75 RDM (Gringrin)
75 WHM (Cyaro)

Right away it used Searing Light, only hit me for 317HP, so I was surprised figuring it would have been lower (my total HP is about 1323, and that's without a Haubergeon still). But the Monk tanked pretty well, I still got hate now and then from my Tachi: Yukikiaze's, and still hit fairly often for being 62, I heard that you won't unless 70+, so that's not true (look at my equip in my link and you'll see how much ACC+ I have, no Snipers and I was fine vs. the NM).

So whenever the NM would cast Carby, RDM cast one nuke, whatever an RDM's highest Fire spell is I believe, and it was dead. It was more one long drawn out battle, wasn't hard at all. Plus we didn't have a Prelate Key, so we did the "pull a Pot through the door" trick, but got aggro from the Manipulator, which went down rather fast.

Manipulator dropped some kind of shield and a doll fragment, NM Tonberry dropped Carby Mitts, Light Spirit Pact, Unlit Lantern, and Tonberry Coat, didn't notice how much Gil it dropped.

I passed on everything but the Mitts as payment for those that helped, even though I really wanted that Spirit Pact. ; ; But still was easier than me offering just a little Gil that I didn't want to offer for help (since I still need other equip/items). I believe Cyaro got the Spirit Pact, but don't really remember.

I'm willing to go again to help out, sure I'm not 75, but if the opportunity is there to lot on a Spirit Pact, I'll go! ^^ Plus it was rather fun to have a new NM to kill, change of pace from the grind of leveling and the usual low-level NM's. Plus nice to have an NM that has an item with 100% drop rate, expensive drop, and forced spawn so it wasn't camped at all. Only downside is all the Tonberry hate you might accumulate from clearing the room prior to the NM fight, plus the NM as well (and maybe others if there was aggro earlier in getting to the NM).
what a day...
# Feb 19 2005 at 4:12 AM Rating: Decent
Well... Just did this NM 7 times today all I gotta say is 'WOW' Light Carol (BRD song) makes all the difference in the world. it was SMN61, BLM61 BST65 DRK75 SAM73 DRK75 WHM75 and one other for the last 3... only person that really took dmg was me, the BLM orz~ I was the only person that needed to get in range that DIDN'T have Light Carol b/c I was in other PT, NOBODY DIED. it wasn't even hard I really didn't see what the big deal was woo! only hard part was trying not to **** this JP off that was farming at the zone where I was camping the '???' for the offering X.x he said "MPK?" >< ******* was killing all the Ton's solo and asking me if I was trying to kill him. Pfft I even gave him fair warning before I zoned, he never got aggro'd by our mobs tho so it was all good.

the offering was the hardest part b/c of stupid 2 freakin hour spawn time, but imo... go solo otherwise you'll just be waiting for all your friends and their friends to pop the '???' ^_-
go ahead be selfish, it's ok :P your solo
got it

Got these tonight. The offering took the longest, I suspect because it was in the back rooms. For two rl days I went to the four rooms and it wasn't in there. Third day I got it quickly.

Four of us took the nm: level 75 bard/whm, level 75 whm/nin, level 75 nin/war, level 72 drg/thf.

Two of us got the mitts. The light pact did not drop. I'm happy with the mitts though, cause my smn is level 20 now.

This is an easyish battle, my party of 6 killed it last night 4 times with a lotal of 6 deaths, 0 on first, 2 on second, 1 on third, and 3 on fourth
Our party setup was WHM61, SMN68, PLD75, PLD75, THF73, and SAM69
it was a easy NM to kill, the only problem with it is its' AoE 2hr...i think though the hardest part of it was just getting there...lol, we got a lot of aggro... ;_;
We each got 4,500+ each time we killed it, and on the first one, we got Light Spirit scroll which sells for 330,000 Gil on Ramuh, so we each getting like 50+k cause someone was playing as 2 charecters, lol
