WOOHOO Got my pair last nite! I have yet to try them out because I am lvl'in my whm, but i cant wait to try them.

And as for the ones saying you need it for the lvl 20 fights, wrong. I did my fights w/o them, and they were fairly easy, after the first 5 tries :-P

As for getting help with them...good luck. The tonberry that has them does searing light 4-5 times, no joke. As a 57 whm when I used my offering to spawn him, he dropped me to under 100 hp RIGHT off the bat with searing light. WHM's, make sure you have reraise on, b/c you WILL need it. Lets put it this way, a searing light did 656 damage to me (57whm) and 738 to my friend (69blk) And just like that, the whm and blk go down. This dude is not easy, although with proper healing and buffing, he should be fine. Just make sure the blk sleeps the other avatars.
Lv20 Avatar Battles? Me thinks otherwise...

Everyone says they want the Carbuncle Mitts for the Lv20 avatar battles. Why?

Yes, -2 cost for Carby is a beautiful thing, but when you use Astral Flow, your perpetuation cost goes to zero anyway. It's not like you'll be speeding up the mana regeneration process at all because there will be no mana cost to decrease.

The defense is nice. I can't think of any items off the top of my head that would be more advantageous, but ok. That's good.

And we all know MP is irrelevant for the avatar battles, so the gorgeous MP increase wouldn't matter in that case.

Unless you're not using the three Searing Light method and just plan on meleeing with Carbuncle until the avatar dies, then I can see why these things would be great. Those of us using the traditional method would only feel the benefits of such gloves if - because of bad luck, poor planning, or carelessness - the method fails.

I already have my six avatars. I just want these gloves because I don't want to be one of the SMN's that give the job a bad name.

Any insights?

Hello there fellow smns' and other FFXI players. Could someone clear up for me? Do these mitts make mp cost cheaper for other avatars? Also i'd be willing to pay high lvl characters on the fairy server 40K each to help me obtain these. Give Zornov a tell. Thanks so much.
Help me please

Hmmm.. I really would like to acquire these for my level 20 avatar battles. Wonder if I can get some of my high level friends to take my 38 WHM with them so I can get them.

I got some of these the other day, they rock ^^ Had a party full of japanese people and one american guy.

Two level 70's and three 75's can take this guy down no problem. We didn't have a WHM besides my level 38, and I died in the first two seconds. When he is spawned, Carubncle WILL do Searing light right off the bat. Then he'll do it again when the Pawberry is down to half of it's life. Carefull!

its true. i had a lvl 70 whm who was his smn 26 at the time in my pt in Yhoater, the mitss give -4 cost and cost at 25 is 5/3

SMn get auto refresh at 25.

He had carby out for free the entire time. his mp stayed at 193.

Then i found out what they drop from.

/cryx100

Why you see alot of ppl with theses mitts is with "Carbuncle mitts" the "Light Staff" and your AF Carbuncle becomes a free avatar very nice ^^

Not totally true... I have carbuncle mitts & a light staff. At lvl 63 SMN it takes 1mp a tick still post lvl 60. However prior it was free... so post 60 you'll need a Vermillions/Royal Cloak or Austre's Robe.
I got mitts last night ^^

They are a -2 MP cost while Carbuncle is out, I got them last night and they are....AMAZING. However with auto refresh carbuncle still drains mp. But it takes FOREVER to run out and I love it :)

no, you're just a moron. these have the hidden effect of carbuncle avatar perpetuation cost (-3 i believe) which = "free carbuncle".
No trade or sell?!?!

It's reccomended that you get these for the lvl 20 avatar fights, but considering they're dropped by a level 75 nm, could someone clue me into how???? Level-more-than-40 don't look highly upon level-less-than-40, and every new summoner on Allakhazam in addition to being infinitely wealthy, has these darn mittens! What am I missing????

Of course it's recommended to get these for you level 20 avatar fights. That sure makes it a helluva lot easier. But just be happy you CAN get avatars at level 20. Don't complain that it's too hard to get mitts that would make it a lot easier.

Those "new summoners" you see with Carbie Mitts are high level characters that earned them. I would venture to say all those "new summoners" with Carbie Mitts also have Fenrir. Be happy with getting avatars at level 20 and don't complain if you can't get the Mitts.

Well, umm.. you already have a level 30 job, since you unlocked the Summoner job. And you'll be leveling a job to level 37 unless you're going to play with an underleveled sub at higher levels. Leveling isn't hard or time-consuming if you do it and do it right. How do you think some NAs have two level 75 jobs and some level 40+ jobs? It's not that they "have no lives".. it's that they know how to effectively play the game. ^^

These mitts are extremely hard to get considering I haven't seen 1 person on siren get them but I'm sure at least 1 japanese person has them. First of all the nm tonberry requires a full alliance of 65 min - 75. Its extremely hard to get enough NA players to help without offering a lot of money or hopefully you know a japanese player who can translate shouts in lower jeuno. Then you have to figure out who wants to die cuz someone is gonna die to the tonberry's special attack (forget name). These mitts are extremely hard to get and I don't expect anyone w/o a job lvl 65+ mage or lvl 70+ melee to have these for the lvl 20 avatar fights. Plus why would you fight the lvl 20 avatars if you have a job that high. You could just go win the lvl 70 avatar battles.

utter rubbish 3 of us at 73-75 killed the nm easy.

The hard part is getting the offering as the things on the way agro at 75 and theres alot of door opening required where u have to take off invis.

they're lying? ^^;

These are not easy to acquire. You must defeat a Tonberry NM and hope for the drop to come your way.

Summoner (as are, in fact, all of the jobs introduced in the expansion) is a job that it helps to have had a 75 job in order to complete your skillset at an early level. The rank 10 summoner I keep seeing at my level, for example, used his 75RDM/37BLM main to defeat all the avatars including fenrir, get his opo-opo crown, earn the money for his light staff and assemble the alliance for his carbuncle's mittens. He's currently broke, but with all that gear he has no trouble getting into parties (being rank 10 has a lot to do with it, as well).

If you want these for your level 20 avatar fighs, level a job past 70 and get together an alliance to fight the tonberry NM that drops them.

That's your only hope.

found 1. Majo my japanese smn friend who i pt with has these. O mp to keep carbuncle out. She just summons carbie for the hell of it while we're running to valley of sorrow. I'm sure theres a point like just in case we get aggro carbie takes the mob. Anyways these mitts are amazing but are EXTREMELY hard to get. Gl

are these the mittens that lower carbys mp slip while he is out?
RE: slippage?
# Jun 03 2004 at 11:47 PM Rating: Default
acttually its not -4 it just lowers it to 1 so with that and anyother -1 mp think like light staff lv 50 smn cloak or varmillion cloak carb will cost 0 mp for the rest of the game^^
btw i have these it let me solo a DC tambar beak worth 56 exp^^
RE: slippage?
# Jul 11 2004 at 9:09 PM Rating: Decent
and as the SMN hits lvl25 they will get Auto-Refresh adding to that -1 MP cost ^^
