RE: HQ
# Mar 15 2006 at 8:20 PM Rating: Decent
umm... 1/3 out of 3 isn't very substantial results... i suggest you try a higher load on that day before making a suggestion like that... besides ice blocks wind ergo wind is weakened... you may have just gotten lucky, i'd suggest trying some more synths first... however you'll probly see results more like 1/5 or even 1/8. Anyways good luck ^^

I just hit lvl 63 smn the other day and i noticed that carby is now using MP when he is kept out >.<
I asked a 75 smn about it and he said that i needed to get the Apollo's Staff now that i'm higer lvl. It's going for 1mil on Siren Server right now (cry). I finally got the money up to get this staff and none are on AH. (just my luck) so if anyone reads this and is on Siren Server that wants to sell their's i'll be glad to buy it from you.

If the PLD put this into his cure macros, it wouldn't change targets from <bt> to the whm-smn-rdm curing him, he would just "/ma "Cure III" <me> instead of <t>...

Since I am a WHM/SMN and I know the -3 prep cost for carby is good and all (since til about 54 carby costs 3MP/tick and then 4MP/tick for a /SMN, at cost of auto-refresh you can hold carby out for a period as a WHM with Carby being free til about 72) but would this staff do more to Shining ruby then a Light Staff if anything at all?

Since Shining Ruby's effect is 10% based (rather then the level of the Summoner increases defences and what not) and all it would be nice if Shining Ruby with this say lasted 4 or 5 minutes instead of 3 =/.

So, Would this Staff be worth buying for a Whm? The light effects would add on to the +10% Cure Potency right? I know the Mind and Light and Cure Pots would help big time but, Why not get the NQ Version for whm?

I upgrade to one recently and love it. Was going for between 1-1.3 mil on Siren but recently dropped to 770k so I took advantage of the price drop and snagged one.

It doesn't affect Cure potency any more really compared to the NQ one, but it does boost your Banish/Holy Damage some more, and it is very nice to melee with. Does twice the Added Light Damage compared to the NQ when it kicks in (which is often if you farming Too Weaks).

Plus having an extra +1 to all stats across the board never hurt any. Melee wise, you'll notice a significant difference compared to the NQ. Cure wise, nothing. Also the Added resistence to Dark stacked with what you get from AF and Black Earrings helps quite a bit against nasty Drain/Aspir spells that might hit you.

One of the main deciding factors for me though was I plan on taking BST pretty far and it's supposed to be better than Monster Signa for Charming, so suits me well. A necessity? No. Nice to have? Yes.

Edit: Forgot to add as a 59 WHM/SMN I get free carby with it as a bonus.

Is it worth it for PLD to macro it in their Cures.
RE: Apollo's Staff
# Feb 01 2006 at 5:07 PM Rating: Decent
It might be useful for PLD for 4 levels, but you get Spirits Within at Lv.55 and you will definitely want to save up to 300% TP for that. Then at Lv.60 you add Vorpal Blade to the mix, which is effective at 100% TP, so changing equip hurts much more than it would pre-Lv.55 for Fast Blade, Ret Lotus, Shining, etc.

IMHO, it's more of a nice-to-have item for PLD, rather than something you'd use in any normal party setup. Kind of like Vermillion Cloak. ^^
RE: Apollo's Staff
# Jun 08 2005 at 8:44 AM Rating: Decent
No. Changing weapons during combat will lose TP. and will also cause the <t> to drop off if someone is trying to Cure you while you change gear (I really hate when <t> changes due to gear change and cure X lands on wrong target while original target gets more of a beat down. I have also found that the Staffs lower the mp cost of the respective summon NQ -2 cost HQ -3 cost and imo offer support when doing synthesis. Apollo thus will lower cost of carby but with carby gloves on I think you get it free anyhow. We did test and you wont get mp refresh effect with both equiped (a negitive cost would have been really sweet though). I love to take my Apollo staff out and beat the undead back to dead. Also the Water staff may be better when using Divine magic (flash banish(ga) holy ect) I have yet to compare them and i do not have a HQ water staff to try it with as of yet.

On Carbuncle most of the HQ staves are 1-1.5 million. While the NQ ones range from 200k-800k
expensive
# Mar 01 2005 at 12:39 PM Rating: Decent
on ragnarok this goes for 1 milion, and the non +1 it's about 250k... pretty expensive, but i think i'll work hard and get this, since it's a really good HQ staff :)
bst drool too
# Feb 15 2005 at 2:16 PM Rating: Decent
This thing is uber for anyone who has any light based skills, The hidden effects are not specific rather its a bounus given to light skill which does the various hidden effects. light gives +10 this gives +15 so perhaps this translates to 5light skill for every -1perpetuation cost for carby.

I bought an Apollo's staff to compare to other staffs. As a BLM/WHM casting Cure III, it would cure 209 points. It wasn't lightsday. I believe that's similar to the NQ Light staff, so I was a little disappointed about that. Then I took it into Eldieme Necropolis to swing at skeletons. I found that the Vulcan's staff with its higher Attack and Fire effect had superior melee damage to Apollo's staff. So I'm going to sell my Apollo's and re-buy an Ice staff.
Light staff, the +1 version
# Jan 02 2005 at 8:46 PM Rating: Decent
This staff seems to be around 400k in Alexander, and 100k for the non +1, which this staff is GOOD for it. the Additional damage alone does 25-35 DMG, better then the non +1 staff, Buy it, if you have the spare money ^-^, or GL trying to craft one, they are awsome, i hope to seem more of these out on people ^-^
good 4 pally?

this is a great staff to have. i got the carbuncle mitts and this staff. tried my austure robe and gloves and still not mp regen. only way i get regen is with a rdm refresh spell, and if your are main healer in a party ( doesn't all summoners feel this way) i leave carby to fight ( since he is only smn that can heal himself while out) and just make sure the rdm keeps refresh on me. so i wear carby mitts, evokers body, appolo staff and main heal. works great ^^

update on 11-4-04

Got my vermillion cloak now, and yes i get the auto refresh effect with it, so i gain magicpoints with carbuncle out ^^

Increases Charm success rate for BST too.
+15% for this staff and +10% charm rate for Light Staff

This is widely excepted by BSTs to be better than Monster Signa (only prob is its lvl 51 vs. lvl 17)

# Oct 17 2004 at 12:02 PM Rating: Decent
How did you manage to come up with such precise percentages? Please enlighten me, I would like to see this for myself.
The BRD side.
# Sep 18 2004 at 2:02 AM Rating: Decent
It has more hidden effects than just magical SMN joy.

This item also increases lullaby potency for BRD. Light staff adds about +1 to lullaby. Apollo does +2 for lullaby, unless I'm grossly mistaken. =3 It's one of the mysterious hidden effects. That's why you see so many BRDs with Light and Apollo staffs - CHR really only effects how songs "stick" to enemies. Therefore, a +1 or +2 to lullaby coupled with Mary's Horn would be extremely useful during those difficult parties with link-prone pullers. X3

However, Monster Signa > Light Staff in pure sexiness. It matches AF so well~
